Insta360 has some shadier marketing techniques and even though the image coming from the GoPro are fairly under par, the digital look that camera is giving is horrible. DJI Action5 all the way if I had the money.

I usually bring along some extra audio gear, but the wind guard of the AP2 does a pretty good job of cutting down on ambient wind noise and other audio aberrations, so I don't need to haul around as much heavy equipment anymore. I still recommend bringing a dead cat and external mic for posterity, but the Ace Pro 2 does alright without.
The sound is certainly impressive on this camera. If I am filming just me and I'm talking as well as others in the video, I place it on VOICE "Isolation" ENHANCE. The result is outstanding. If I need background noise in my video (birds chirping, etc) then I place it on WIND reduction.

I'm certain you will enjoy it because it will take you a week to discover all the features. The phone app has a crazy number and the insta360 studio has another pile of features. Everything there is to help out your creativity.
The fact that it gives you correct exposure for light areas and dark areas is enough to sell me on it. The stabilization is phenomenal too. These are things I have always wish for in my LUMIX. What’s next? Zoom lens? Crazy wishing, but who knows what the future may bring. As a professional photographer that you are, I know you can really appreciate this beauty. Thanks for reviewing this Mighty Mouse. Happy f-stops👍👍👍👨🦳
Tech is moving fast. The great thing is that if you know you wish to ZOOM in on something, you can just record at 4K tap the screen twice and it ZOOMS in 2X with no loss of detail in the recorded image. And if you want to SUPER ZOOM, you just record at 8K & then you can zoom in later in editing and still have no major loss of detail.
What a great review. Ty. Also, it looked like you were moving pretty well on your bike. Yeah, it would seem GoPro has work to do. I'd bet their sick after seeing this.
It was your review that made me buy the Insta360 Go3. I have been VERY pleased with that camera. Not sure if it was you that reviewed the X4, but I bought that one too and its perfect. I think I'm sold on this one too. I use them for my UTV and pack-goat hikes (Goat cam). This one would be even better than the Go3 since I rarely use the removeable pod on that one, and this one has a better camera etc. Sold!
I use the GO 1, 2 and 3 in every RC Plane video, and for the X4 I have the most entertaining (AMAZING) video, so it may have been mine you watched. But Steve, it is true that Insta360 in the past was asking RUclipsrs to not reveal they were sponsored by them in the videos, and this goes against the laws in US. So it's good that you mention it at the beginning that you are NOT sponsored by them. Better be safe than sorry and lose subscribers hehe. Cheers!
I can clear up this crazy story. In the USA, insta360 has a company division, and that company division is there to get people to try their product. One of the regional bosses in the USA had the staff send out an email to RUclipsrs in the USA that said we’ll send you the product for free, you review it, and don’t mention that we are sponsoring the review (bad choice of words, as they were not actually sponsoring the review). My guess is that the language (Chinese to English) and business thinking were the problem. My Insta360 company contact is in CANADA and none of us in CANADA or around the globe received such an email. I was told by my CANADIAN insta360 contact that the person who authorized that email was removed. But, it certainly upset RUclipsrs in the USA.
If you do all your filming outdoors in bright sunlight, then the GoPro is perfectly fine, but in dull lighting or low lighting, it is so far behind the competition. Also the ACEPRO 2 has about twice the features of the GoPro 13 (way more than can be shown in any video), but most people are just happy with point and shoot and never use them all.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I definitely need to research more about the Ace 2 . I currently use the Insta360 GO 3 for family & motorcycling videos a long with my One R 360 module. Personally insta360 phone app is the best, just slow for rendering.
Do you mean the GPS DATA? That you can add to any video shot on the ACE PRO 2 as long as you sync the data from a GPS device or your phone, then you can either add the data to the video in the phone App or the INSTA360 STUDIO Desktop app.
Thank you for making this video, finally a night footage on a FPV Drone, what is the sound quality like when recording, can you still hear the props or has the wind reduction removed it ?
The sound on a drone is mind blowing with no wind noise... I left some of the sound in during the ending of the video... you can kinda hear it over the music.
Well done Captain ! (and a "marathon" review!!); great to see "Tractor Man" was featured at different parts of the Video!; amazing Camera and begs the question; you could buy an old DJI Drone and simply wack one of these on it and theoretically, have the best footage / image quality !!
This looks awesome!!! Gotta say I haven't been impressed at all with GoPro lately. Especially the 13 color looks off when I see people using them on RUclips now
It is difficult or should I say… NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE to get Jello on an action camera that uses DIGITAL STABILIZATION because it does not have a gimbal (does that make sense… to stabilize an image with digital stabilization the camera grabs hold of something near or the horizon, this can then mean that you might see items off to the sides in lesser light that may shake/vibrate). Action cameras will always have a smooth video as long as they have plenty of light (bright daylight) and the camera is pointing in one direction. You can also increase the stabilization by selecting a higher level, but that crops into the image more, so not everyone selects it, unless of course you are Mountain Biking. Often you see newbies that place an ACTION CAMERA on their handle bars and go mountain biking and can’t figure out why their are vibrations in the image (camera works best when attached to a part of the body).
When I first received the camera for review, I had to use the batteries from the original ACE PRO and there were no issues. In addition the batteries from the ACE PRO 2 worked in the ACE PRO. Insta360 says if you do this, then the cameras won’t accurately calculate how much power is remaining and may shut off during recording without notice. I never had any problems, but then again I was only recording for 10 minutes at a time.
I have loads of questions 1 Does it have the ability to output via HDMI ? 2 does it have the ability to take external mic audio in ? 3 can one add an external mic on a cold shoe ? 4 does the cam allow short cuts onscreen like GoPro does ? Ok I won’t bore you anymore 😂
Here are SUPER Quick answers: 1. I don’t believe so (I did not see a video out to HDMI menu option) 2. External mic audio is shown in the review 3. Cold shoe requires a Cold shoe mount, and since it is an ACTION CAM, there is no such thing unless you add a case with such a mount. 4. The Camera has about twice as many features as a GoPro (in the software). I did not show many of the items that have always been in the camera like AI Shorts, Highlights, etc. If you watch the review videos of the very first ACE PRO from last year you may see such features shown, but as I mentioned in the video it would take me over 4 hours to show all the features of the camera in a review video so I focused on what’s new and what most users would use.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thnx for that Steve. So I do the MTB action filming thing and I use my GoPro like crazy. I like the look and image quality of the new Insta, BUT here is the caveat…. I have a media mod on my 8 and 10 GoPro and I use an external Rode Video Micro to grab little Vox pops and upsounds on the routes. The cool thing with the media mod is that it has two hot shoes so one can easily mount a quality mic to it as it just plugs into the mods 3.5mm audio jack. As the mini mics come with dead cats / windshields it makes a massive difference in the audio quality especially while filming outside at in severe adverse weather. I also prefer the quality of the mini mics for the audio fedility. It’s sad that the Insta does not offer video out because that’s another big one for me on the GoPro as I use them as small hideaway cams for livestreams and I feed it to the switcher using transmitter links. It’s those small things from a professional standpoint I think that if they add, even at a price, WILL make this the GoPro beater
@@digitalemotionfilms I believe the ACE PRO cameras offer video out via USB C like most (you had asked about HDMI, which there is no mini HDMI on this camera). Also, just like Apple, mic inputs are a thing of the past so everything is now Bluetooth. But with Bluetooth it means only one mic can be connected, which then means if you want more than one mic you’d need Bluetooth mic’s that go into a receiver, mix the signal, then out to Bluetooth, like the DJI mic’s do.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 ahh that’s awesum…. Thnx for that info. I have also done some reading and it does offer an adapter that allows 3.5 mm external mics. And I see one can get a cage for it with cold shoe mounts on….. problem solved 😁

Action cameras all have built in stability, and each camera has stability better than the other (insta360 is known for their high quality stability). In the review, when I show camera settings you can see the STABILITY is set to NORMAL. There is a setting for Mountain Biking which crops in the image to provide aggressive stability.
I’ll let INSTA360 answer that one because that spec was not clear. When it comes to 8 bit/10 bit, it can easily be added via firmware update. Where most people new to cameras are lost is that when they see 10 bit offered they believe it to be better, but 10 bit requires an outstanding high dynamic image to be of any benefit, so if a camera can’t film in poor lighting then 10 bit is terrible.
I’ve been using the ACE PRO cameras for over a year now and many times they run for 2 hours straight recording 4K video and I have never experienced overheating, even in the hot summer. I have never used them with a POWER SOURCE so that they stay on recording for 8 or more hours. I have no idea if a heating problem would occur.
Except on price. Insta have given all of us outside the US a sale price +$100 above the conversion rate. That’s ridiculous. Now it only makes sense to get the GoPro or DJI
Thank You for review. Very nice camera. Expensive and heavy but low light capabilities coupled with polar pro camera on dji vista for flying could result in some brilliant footage

Thanks for this informative video. How much recording time do you get, at various levels, on those mini cards? Can this camera record onto external SD or SSD?
@@richardweddle3408 Recording time is based on FOUR factors. What size MICRO SD CARD you place in the camera. What RESOLUTION you record video at. What BITRATE you record at. Is the BATTERY fully charged. So what people with photography knowledge do, is they use a LARGE micro SD card (LARGE in capacity like a minimum of 120 gig U3 card) when they record at a high resolution, at a high bitrate with a full battery & they can easily record for as long as the battery supplies the camera with power (so around two hours on average).

Beautiful FPV night footage from the Ace Pro 2! Perhaps it has to be mounted on an analog FPV, since analog FPV cameras have better low light performance than the DJI camera. Just ordered the Ace Pro 2 myself! Time to sell my Hero 9.
A high quality 1 inch sensor, with the proper number of pixels would be extremely expensive. That is why high quality cameras with a 1 inch sensor start at $2000. But there are much lesser quality 1 inch sensors that are available in drones and budget cameras that give an average quality image.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Yes was looking at it from the viewpoint of the Insta360 ONE R 1-Inch Edition that they already have that was released more than a year ago.

Oh it is not at all noticeable. Back in the old days of 5” FPV Drones, all ACTION CAMERAS weighed a way more than this and we flew and never noticed the weight.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 - how long? 10 minutes? 20 minutes? or ...?
@@richardweddle3408 Recording time is based on FOUR factors. What size MICRO SD CARD you place in the camera. What RESOLUTION you record video at. What BITRATE you record at. Is the BATTERY fully charged. So what people with photography knowledge do, is they use a LARGE micro SD card (LARGE in capacity like a minimum of 120 gig U3 card) when they record at a high resolution, at a high bitrate with a full battery & they can easily record for as long as the battery supplies the camera with power (so around two hours on average).
As a fellow roadie and bike nerd kinda curious to know what bike you are riding 🤔
Brand name is GIANT and the model is the REVOLT E+ PRO. I also love bikes and usually always have 4 different models, but due to space requirements I had to drop down to two bikes. So now I have this bike and a GIANT YUKON (Fat Bike) which I ride in Fall, Winter (snow), early Spring.
Another awesome review. Thanks!
Thanks for checking it out!
Ace Pro 2 vs Osmo soon? :)
awsome review Captain
Thank you!
Excellent review. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful FPV night footage from the Ace Pro 2! Perhaps it has to be mounted on an analog FPV, since analog FPV cameras have better low light performance than the DJI camera. Just ordered the Ace Pro 2 myself! Time to sell my Hero 9.
Yes, some ANALOG cameras have an FPV image (terrible) but designed for night footage (more black & white, very little color), but practical.
Good review again Steve
Alway trust your review cap.
Thank you for the support. I appreciate it.
Pity not a 1inch sensor still 😢
A high quality 1 inch sensor, with the proper number of pixels would be extremely expensive.
The weigth is not noticeable using 4 or 5 inch? Really? It is a nearly 180 g heavy cam... It is not freestyle anymore. Still thank you for the review. Cheers!
Oh it is not at all noticeable. Back in the old days of 5” FPV Drones, all ACTION CAMERAS weighed a way more than this and we flew and never noticed the weight.
As they say... take my money!!!
I would never put a that expensive camera on my drone..
Action cameras are solid. You can drop the drone and camera from 400 feet and all will be well... as long as you hit grass and not concrete.

One thing that confuses me with the Insta360 name.. not all of their cameras are 360.
Correct. A confusing Company Brand Name for certain. But, that was their bread and butter (360) when they first began, so it stuck.
Great review ❤from Dj John Sweden.
Thank you my Swedish Friend!
Thanks mate helped a lot
Appreciate you watching!

GoPro is toast at this point 😅

😂 way up like seven
Gopro is cooked😂😂😂😂😂😂
GoPro (company) has been for sale several times over the past 10 years, yet no one has bought them. Perhaps under new management they will be less corrupt.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798GoPro has posted losses of $200 million in the first 2 quarters of this year. And hasn't been profitable for the last 5 years running. Not sure how they are still in business.
All this new wanna be action camera's are made for vlogging. GoPro are made specifically for actoon and outdoor stuff. They are more compact and tough. They are built for that its purpose. In simple laymens terms. They are the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series of cameras. Simple and tough and built for its purpose. Under water footage of GoPros is much better compared to iphone 16 pro max and other "actions" vlog cameras. Their color looks more natural in daylights and even low light situation under water GoPro still shines.
You can't argue with the history of GoPro. But this new camera has so many features, I'm sure it will steal away some GoPro market share.
