- When you book a flight with Southwest you do not get to choose your seat. You can pay extra to be one of the first 15 people to board the plane (these usually get the front rows) but if you do not want to pay the premium price for the A1-15 boarding but still get a good seat you can pay for Early Bird Seating. Early Bird Seating is how I got the best seats on Southwest Airlines - Best Seats on Southwest 737-800 & Southwest 737 MAX8. With Southwest Early Bird Seating you are automatically checked into your flight 36 hours before departure. If you do not pay for Early Bird you have to manually check in 24 hours before departure. The order in which you board the plane is determined by the time you check in. The earliest check ins get to board first.
In addition to buying the Early Bird Seating I also studied the seating charts for the 2 planes I would be flying on for my flights from Atlanta to Las Vegas and Las Vegas to Honolulu. The seating charts suggested 16A and 16F. These seats are in the Exit Row so you have to be willing and able to assist in an emergency.
Check out my video for a close look at the layout of these Southwest airplanes. See why I think I got the best seat on the plane.

Very smart and great info !!
Thank you!
Very smart!
Well done.
Thank you! I will definitely fly Southwest again!
great information 👍😃🙏
Thank you for watching!
Good information 👍
Thank you!
I'm surprised you got C41 boarding with early bird on your way home! Also, I want to double check on the early bird that it is done automatically, I don't have to check in 24 hours ahead. Thanks for your helpful video.
I was surprised too but luckily I still got a good seat. Yes Southwest automatically checked me in - I did not have to do anything with early bird. Thank you for watching! Have a great flight!
I usually get a window seat by the left engine because i love to hear the engine sound on the Southwest Boeing 737-800 and the MAX. I do the early bird check in
Very helpful video. Thank you. I think I misunderstood something. Did you say that on the return from Hawaii you were "assigned" seats C40 and A31? I thought that Southwest was first come first served. But is there an exception for the Hawaii route? They do assign seat numbers? I have only flown domestically.
The assignments are not seat assignments- it is the boarding order. You can still choose any open seat - group A gets to board first then B, C…. You can theoretically get a better seat with a better boarding order. Thank you for watching! It was a great flight to Hawaii and it was a lot cheaper than the other airlines!
@@LetsGoLiz Thanks for clarifying this.
so when do I pick my seats with the early bird ? I purchased 4 plane tickets with early bird because I want all of us to be on the same row and I don't want no middle seat
When you purchase early bird they automatically check you in on the app about 36 hours before your flight with the other early birds. During this check in you are assigned a boarding number. Everyone lines up in order of your boarding number and then you choose any open seat that you want when you get on the plane. Have a great flight!
When you purchased an Early Bird ticket, do they give you an assigned seat number in the flight? Tnks
You do not get an assigned seat number but you are able to get on the plane and choose your seats before those who did not purchase early bird. Thank you for watching!
Early bird boarding is SUSPECT. My wife and I did early bird boarding to Hawaii last year and got B-30 and B-31. For 2 years of weekly travel, I used to get below A-30 just by logging onto the app 24 hours ahead.
I agree but for a flight that long I don't want to take the chance of getting a middle seat! Thank you for watching!

@@LetsGoLiz *just bought early bird tickets round trip from Oakland to Dallas this spring, hoping to get this seat in the exit row.. I'm 6 feet tall 200+ lbs, so definitely need the leg room.
@@LetsGoLizSo it's 16F on the wing that I want? 🙏
@@Strickalator I suggest looking at your flight info and putting your flight and plane type into seat guru to double check the layout of the plane. Seatguru.com will show you the seating map of the rows without a seat in front of them but yes it is 16 A and 16 F on this type of plane. Thank you for watching!

It's very simple. Ask for a wheelchair, board first and get off at your destination unassisted. Ive seen people do this numerous times.
I have seen people do that! So frustrating for people that really need assistance!
Sad and pathetic
Gross. Glad they're finally changing that.
Not anymore. Welcome to FATTY Airlines 😳
