Nioh is the best souls like game i have played ill play Code Vein soon;)
@@monrepos1001 agreed nioh is fantastic, though I like almost all souls like games I'm a sucker for it.
@@monrepos1001 Agreed, now we wait for the 2nd one.
@@monrepos1001 I preffer Bloodborne, but can't say much about Nioh since i never played it.
Also, i enjoyed Code Vein demo a lot, and already ordered a physical copy /o/ guess i'll have lots of fun playing with mah edgy revenant girl and doing co-ops
@@raphathekid you need to play Nioh
that first boss fight is tough. "character creation"
yeah that would take hours
Rilo Honeu OwO
I am not ashamed to admit I spent at least 3 hours in there lol
No shit! Took me 3h to beat that.
But the reward in the end is also very satisfying ;D
Fantastic review! The IGN review was really poor.
Thanks for watching! :D
Yea. Alot of these site gave this a 7 or below because they compare this game to dark soul and not review it by the game itself.
it pretty much deserves the score of 7 though, idk wtf are you guys bitching about. bunch of weebs lmao
tbh it can be arguably a 6/10. but considering that it was one of the first attempt of an anime dark souls game there really isn't anything to compare
animations are clunky, locations do not stand out and full of reused assets and boss designs looks shit as fuck. Only thing that's good is the character customization which is only 5% of the game
I’ve already played a ton of it and 100% agree with your review!!
"Cant stop playing, and when Iam not playing Iam thinking about playing"... welp, good to know Iam not alone :D
Lan SJ it’s soooo good
this is literally the best description of how I feel about this game.
Same here! I've been looking forward for a year, and it doesn't disappoint. Does it have flaws? Sure. What game doesn't? But I'm loving it. And even with a few flaws, it's better than 99% of the other AAA trash coming out these days
@@ricardodarcangelo2437 yessss
Iam
Funny, when the white castle was being shown I was actually thinking Nier: Automata not Dark Souls.
Same lol
Funny enough... I was thinking of Anor Londo, but now that you mention it...
It leans way more into anor londo imo
Me too.
Yeah I was thinking of Adam's copied city
Wow, a review where you actually played the game and not the demo? Nice. Can't say the same for IGN though
You can't spell ignorant without IGN.
Ha!
@@flandrescarlet7227 So dang true!
i played the demo and i must say it's pretty lackluster. I went ahead and bought surge 2. aside from heavy an ugly world and a horrible story the exploration and combat are pretty good. i felt code vein was spammy and weapons didnt have enough weight to hits.
Reminds me of their Mystery Dungeon Review where they gave it a 3.9, but never made it past Apple Woods
this review puts the ign one to shame
almost all are better then ign these days lol
whats IGN? sorry i am an IGNorent person that rather judge games myself over, whatever your social media say about it.
it doesnt matter anyway, CV is trash, but i agree, IGN is beyond pathetic.
Ign at least gave realistic score
IGN doesn't need any help putting IGN to shame.
First few hours: I'm a dark and angsty pretty boy. Blood is my life and my life is for the blood...
Upon realizing I can remake my character at any time, and that I can swap genders by saving a female template to appearances and loading it later: I...am CUTE and FLUFFY!
I did not expect this game to be as high quality as it seems to be, I'm suprrisingly impressed
3:17, my goodness. thousand years of pain
Right up the old bunghole!
Supadrumma441 and out the other god damn end!
*a thousand years of death*
The term is kanchou
I bought It cuz I heard "It's Like Dark Souls but Anime!" And I don't regret.
Extremely dull and repetitive environment, nothing like dark souls. They practically skipped the hard part of designing intriguing environments.
Same
@@xiaochaoo i totally agree. Every person who defend this shitty level design are shills or have low standards or both.
@Aron Travis yea the level design in outer worlds is not that great, there is too little variety in gear and weapons and many dialogs are boring filler to stretch the playtime.
@Aron Travis hey its just like their opinion.
Damm you! I was on the fence but have to get this now. That theme song was literally in my head all day week.
Already preordered cant wait till tomorrow when i get my copy
ShadowBorn Gamer wdym? It’s out today right?
It is
You sure
I see other playing the full version but gamestop says it come out in september31
Well, he wasn’t lying about the “staying awake at night thinking about playing it” part.
I have school tomorrow and I still can’t stop thinking about it.
Anoru Lonudo is in Anime Souls? amazing
dude its literally anor londo...? WHAT?
@@WhirlwindHeatAndFlash well it is Anime Souls so Anor Londo is required
The fact you called it anoru londuo just made my day for some reason xD.
@@space9658 Dark Souls didn't invented anything sweeetie stop
This a just an pathetic attempt to copy anor londo. It looks terrible and unimaginative.
Damn your review is always better than all the major game review outlets, IGN,GameSpot and others always manage to butcher every review they do. I think I'll be giving this game a try for sure, I do love dark souls alot!
Nice review. Watched you play the other day and already knew some of the key points - you clearly stated them. This is an honest and useful review. We need more like it. Thank you very much.
Awesome :). Am downloading now! Showed my friend this video ! I think he was on the fence, but this should convince him to be excited! Thanks Fextralife
My digital deluxe edition is ready. I look forward to gaming it up tonight and I'm definitely looking forward to the game overall for all it offers, i do hope the season pass stuff will be quite interesting when it releases. Anyway good review man you definitely did it justice🤘
Is the song at the end an ost form code vein? Sounds awesome reminds me a slightly bit to black butler
Great review! You're the only person who even mentioned those dungeon-like activities in all the reviews I've read and watched, so kudos to you. Looks like I'm going to pick this up soon :)
I have been following this place since the Dark Souls 3 stream that was done before the release of the game (I still use the Dancer Set + Fire Keeper Skirt used in that stream :D) and your reviews and opinions on such games seem well thought about + honest. Thanks for giving Code Vein a fair chance because it seems everywhere else looks at the game as a bag of moldy sandwiches :D
This is literally the first game I do NOT regret pre-ordering. Literally makes me sad when I have to go to sleep and stop playing. Definitely one of the best/most fun games I've ever played. Like I tell most people, this game is fun for the fact that when I played the souls series it was waay too hard for me to be enjoyable, which could be my own fault & I wasn't a fan of the character customization.. but this game my god, it's so good.
You're so right...
Thank you, you just told me everything I need to know but I'm kinda concerned about the combat from your description
@@WhiskeyTango76s i personally find the combat a bit challenging on pc
Diavolo_Didn't_ Deserve_It I'm finding it to be the same actually with some enemies. Not a Souls type challenge or anything, more like Nioh if Nioh wasn't dominated by health-sponge bosses(it's DLC, base game was pretty fair). The control are bit odd on console but regardless, I'm absolutely loving it so far and I cannot see how there are some reviews giving this game 2/5's or 6/10' unless the game gets pretty bad after the Cathedral area(where, imo, it just got much better).
FIrst game from which I bought the collector's edition from. Worth every cent I had to pay for it. 11/10, would buy ce again.
Hey Fextra - would you say the repeated environment aspects are on par with Chalice Dungeons - where I definitely recognized a lot of the parts and rooms after a while, but it didn't ruin it? Or is it monotonous and painfully repetitive?
- What would be the best recommended build/play-style for a newbie who hasn't played any Darksouls games B4 ? any advice would be appreciated. thank you.
Code Vein bosses are harder than most dark souls bosses SOLO on 1st playthrough.
Imo the gameplay is very challenging without co-op but the environment is very lacky.
I really liked it. Restoring the memories to get new gifts was cool. Expanded the storyline. Combat needs more explanation a little more. Lots little things I learned by chance or looked up tips and tricks. Walk speed during scenes could be quicker. Character customization is plentiful.
You my good sir have done a remarkable job being pretty in depth with your review. I'll have to put this game on my list to get when I have the time to play it.
I was on the fence weather is should buy this game. I saw this review, and threw my money at the screen.
Lol!
big biiiig same!
I'm still on the fence. Can't decide between this or Sekiro, for obvious reasons. Sekiro has the trap but this has the boobs.
@@6ixlxrd As a hardcore souls player didnt think Sekiro was gonna be as good as it was tbh, Its amazing well worth the money
@@fullmetalalkami6466 Thanks man. I'm definitely leaning more towards that one since the gameplay looks so smooth.
Great review will have to pick this up! I may have missed it but how is the difficulty overall? Does it seem fair or overly punishing? I didn't like the surge as much as I could so will skip 2 but this looks really fun.
The game is pretty challenging solo (not Sekiro levels) - some boss fights are amazingly designed, others are somewhat frustrating. You can bring an AI companion and summon multiplayer help, however, which makes difficulty a lot less so you should not worry about progress blocks too much
Thanks for the review! Just played the trial and loved it. Spent like an hour on the character creator and I'm really enjoying the souls-like gameplay with more cutscenes and story. Downloading the full game right now!
Just curious about your surge 2 wiki it says you get certain V2 weapons from chopping boss parts off but I got less than half of them
Great review dude, september is a way too busy month, release wise, to pick this up as well, but i'll give it a chance for sure in a couple of months
Newer player here it's been an absolute blast. After the first area the art style and story had me hooked
You have gained a subscriber because of this review, your review touched on everything and this review just put ign and other big companies reviewers to shame
about multiplayer though, is it working or is it like god eater 3 that has 'restriction'?
Thumbs up for first code vein review 👌🏻
Never have I ever heard of such a down to earth review. Great job
Your review re-ignited my hype to pick up the game upon release after critics' lukewarm responses had me second guessing whether to get it or not. No buyers remorse
Thank you so much for this review, you showed so much and really delved into some of the intricacies.
This is the second video i watch for a review so i can make up my mind on buying the game, played the demo but had doubts, thanks for this my dude!
For me, it’s a 7/10, nice review BTW.
Edit; Who else played the DLC? I mean, the base game was alright and I played it a couple of times, but the Season Pass was just garbage.
So, if you're looking to buy the DLC or the Deluxe Edition, *DON'T*, seriously don't do it, they're not worth your money.
I love this game so much. It's probably the best game released in 2019.
I’m thinking about getting how is the endgame an online multiplayer
tro lol is it gonna be like small dlc that’s like 1hr to beat or like a BIG dlc with hours of content
Definitely definitely not the best game, actually far faaar from 😂😂
Is this the only game you played in 2019, or ever?
@@-opus"Durr, time to be smug and condescending about how much better my opinion is than yours"
How do you get that white hood armor?
Great review, what is the ending music song name please?
Great review! I'll probably get this game on a discount but you still way more in-depth than some gaming sits (*cough* IGN *cough*).
Well that’s all I needed to hear! Awesome review!
Did you play with a controller or keyboard & mouse? Any recommendations for hotkeys or anything of the sort?
Controller sorry :(
Is there a 60fps cap?
awesome review! it made my purchase feel much more satisfying! You have earned a sub! Cheers
The demo was amazing, can't wait to pick it up tomorrow!
What about loot and itemization? How does it work in this game/does it exist in it?
You didn't mention that aspect at all.
i did not expect your final thoughts to be as positive as it was cause of your tone of voice haha but glad to hear. Will definitely check it out after I finish DS3 and Nioh
7.5 for the audio?
I actually liked the audio. The Oprah singing with the violin reminds me so much of High School DXD
Code Vein was great, I hope it becomes it's own series, it's still a Souls-like but does enough different to set it apart from the rest imo.
so this game is about a year old now, i was curious about getting into it on pc and saw the option for all the dlcs and stuff together in a bundle, is it worth the price?
Depends on how much you like the story or feeling like a badass.
Thank you for the great review. Was on the fence with this one. Getting it now!
This is probably the first ever review that i ever seen without getting pissed
I'm looking at you every single ign review excluding anthem it deserved less
worth getting for character customization alone
Right!? I find it odd that barely anyone is talking about that Character Creator since I've seen folks call it "The First Boss of the Game" because it took them hours to get their Character right lol
Yeah even if we speak about it just in games in general this game's character customization is amazing and really you can't even make two people look exacly alike since you have so many options.
@@shai310 Clothing is severely limited
I know, right?
Every step I took further into the character customization, the more steps I saw still lay ahead.
no titty or ass slider.
Nice review Fextralife! A question for you - approximately how long does the game last? I'm assuming something along the lines of 20 hours for a first-time run through. Not including the hours of character customization of course. :-)
It's around 40 hours
If i bought this game New at WalMart on clearance for $10 so does my individual pricepoint for the game become 50-ish !?
Finally a good review that talks about everything including the character creator.
Fantastic review. Actually helped me understand if I would like the game or not.
When I saw some recent videos I got a bit worried, but I am so glad it turned out good.
I love Fextralife for so many games I've played...like ESO and Elden Ring. But thats only when they are actually playing it at launch. The updates on the website always start falling off after a couple of months which is a little annoying. Still one of my favorite twitch streams when games launch though because of how in depth they get in to the games.
I think the music is much better than you've made them out to be. Better than most soundtracks in the last few years, in fact.
Memory of the Lost (That one that plays whenever you're in a vestige) is beautiful, Towards the Eternal Glory (Gilded Hunter) and Tears of Passion - Unexpected Feelings - (Blade bearer and Cannoneer) sends shivers down my spine while simultaneously making me want to break my keyboard,
Human Qua Human(Io's theme) and Ember Journey(ending theme) are so beautiful and sad they made me burst into a million tears, almost.
The soundtrack is exceptional, to me at least. Other than that, thank you for this legitimate and well made review. Now I will dive back into Io's cleav-The Cathedral of sacred blood ;)
Hm...
As soon as this game was released I notice a shortage of hand lotion and tissue papers in many stores.
Lol what
Those pathetic weebs are at it again....
😂😂😂😂
The plot isnt all that great aside for 2 pairs of sub plots tbh
Wait what???
Thank you for review! I love your channel! Great content and awesome advise.
was realy on the edge with this one, but your review convinced me to give it a shot. thanks.
The music sounds amazing too
reminds me alot of the nier games ilove it
Concise yet in-depth, great review! Although, having already bought the game, you've only hyped me even more...
Is it bad that I’ve had this game a week after launch and I have only been customizing characters?
Thank you for the amazing review, honestly ive been waiting for this game, im about to go out and buying
I strongly agree with this review on almost everything, just not completely on the visuals and level design. While Code Vein does have repetitive designs and sloppy textures in places, its overall aesthetic and art design is wonderful. A good number of locations and moments in the game were breath-taking, and very memorable.
I also, on a second playthrough, realized how intricately woven within themselves a lot of the levels are (Provisional Gov. Center, Cathedral of Sacred Blood, Howling Pit, for example). Exploring them feels like genuine exploration and a test of endurance. It's fun.
Great review! :)
Thank you for actually reviewing the game in a fair manner, and not half-assing your way through it.
Only gripe is the lack of commentary over the soundtrack, which I understand is personal opinion.
I always look forward to the soundtracks from the God Eater Team.
Only question I have is how comparable to DS3 is the co-op? Do you need to be "kindled" or equivalent? Will it force you into glitchy pvp? Does the difficulty actually increase so you're not utterly destroying everything that would normally be a challenge?
Can you play the whole story with someone and is your Partner in your 'INSTANCE' or do you progress equally on your own save files/achievements?
Progress is separate
Fantastic review. I liked how, although you made comparisons to Dark Souls, you judged the game based on its own merit. Crappy and static level design is kind of expected given how God Eater was like lol
pfffffff
"crappy and static level design" is the point of games like this and God Eater. Its meant to portray how dead the world you're in is, there's hardly any life. Its way different than a game like Souls, which is a fantasy-medieval-european world. There's almost no comparing them.
Kyle Ellis I was thinking the exact same thing. Fex describes the location designs as “lifeless” which is clearly intended for the core design of the world environment. Desolate and post apocalyptic. But the area designs are by no means bad. Tons of reused assets, sure but the maps are carefully aligned with details that conveys the story adequately. Appearances aside, the map traversal is amazing, most contain loops, shortcuts, contraptions, traps and hidden paths just like in Dark Souls. My one main issue is that some of the maps are just too short. Other than that, the maps are totally fine, they look okay and are fun to explore.
@@needlessnash Exactly. The world is desolate and barren, and almost nothing is left. It's also probably set in Japan, oh and it's also in modern day. It's sad that people think anything remotely resembling classic "few-button" combat is a Souls clone. Just wait, someday people will think modern Ys games are Souls-likes 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Code Vein is a through and through action JRPG. It is singleplayer/co-op without stupid PVP, it is again a JRPG therefore a story-driven game. Replayability is already there to get different endings or do NG+ on a higher difficulty. Or to just replay the story. The only thing like Souls is the basic controls of combat, and shortcuts. That's literally it. 😂 Not even "go through this area killing enemies/picking up items then fight the boss and rinse and repeat" can be considered part of Souls, because games like Ys/Devil May Cry did that shit first, with much better puzzles and platforming to boot. Fromsoft's games are great but they're not the best out there in the action RPG genre, and as much as people want to believe, aren't the games that revolutionized anything IN the action RPG genre, except for maybe a more expansive world, and lore that you have to want to dig for. And are in the end very basic and barebones aside from DS3 and Bloodborne, and if you add in Miracles or Sorceries. I myself have loved the SoulsBorne series, but Sekiro smashes them all in quality, and tbh, making "Souls-like" a fake genre is dumb. Thanks for understanding and having some sense lol
@@zerosolis6664
I'm a big fan of abandoned locations irl, and they are anything but bland. There is a lot of interesting randomness and oddly beautiful scenes where dilapedation and the elements have turned something as mundane as an shop front into almost a work of art.
If CV decides to progress the series I truly hope they spend more time on level design and environmental ambience. I really lile thos game but I think its missing a heartbeat in a way. Even the depths/dungeons are just aesthetically mediocre.
Imo they got it close to great with locations like the Cathedral and the Provisional Government Center, but everything else was a bit... meh.
Fantastic review way better than IGNs only have one issue and from what I played it seems too easy does it get harder later on?
Disable the AI companion then
They did say it was a easy dark souls
Bosses are harder then the mobs. Especially some later bosses
Yeah. Kinda.
All I want to know is can I skip the cutscenes?
That song at the end is amazing! Is that from code vein too?
Michael Scott yes it is :)
Nice review I definitely want this game, but why is nobody mentioning the amazing character creator? It's important to some of us.
The music is sick to its got a dragons dogma ish feel i love it
Nice review, a lot of depth and intelligence here, and any review that discusses in DEPTH the good and the bad they felt as they played only help us make up our own minds base on what we like and why we game. Bravo :) and thank you for the high quality review.
So to me the most important question is Code Vein or Surge 2??
I’ll get both eventually but with Shadowkeep releasing in a couple days I am holding off for now because I am still mopping up content in Borderlands 3.
A whole summer with hardly any new games and now that fall is here I have too many to even know what to do with : /
So... This game is Anime Bloodborne?
This review was really helpful, in depth and assisted greatly in my choice of not getting it.
I love souls-likes especially Nioh and Sekiro, but this one has a tone and additional things that don't appeal to me.
I wish more reviews were like this one.
Forgot to sub as well as any channel with the depth of review and rpg focus is one i wish to help support.
Any idea on how this runs on PC? Is it a good port or should I go with a console version?
We reviewed it on PC so :D
I missed that fact, sorry about that. So no problems and good to go like the console versions? I'd really like to play this online but the only console I've bought online is Switch at the moment.
Any thoughts about the different playstyles? Are ranged and melee builds both fun?
@@Ramperdos PC works fine, builds are very versatile and you can change at the checkpoint and equip something else if your setup isnt working - so go from melee to magic in a few clicks.
Played the demo then went to order the collectors edition straight afterwards. Great review.
Oh look an actual good review thanks for that .
You deserve a like on this one. Great review man.
How many hours can I get out of it?? Also is there ng+ ?
Around 30-40 hrs of Story, then Deep Dungeons like the two of the Beta and then its also NG+
I bought this game a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it.
Fantastic review! And remember, you can't spell ignorant without IGN!
Enjoyed the demo, will pick this up at some point.
I knew you guys would know how best to review these types of games.
excellent review my friend
Thank you for watching!
I pre-ordered the deluxe edition just because of hype for being a souls like game, it was risky so i'm glad it's actually a very good game.
same
me too mate
This game has a boring story, a terrible unresponsive combat system, lame af level design, shitty fan service, boring boss fights and shitty soundtracks and is easy overall thanks to those fucking annoying companions. this game is an abomination
@@foulXD i only can agree on the level design.
@jonny s good for you!
can you do a review of all the veils? there is too many stats complicating this game. what is "Mind"?
Maybe I will buy it for my birthday... 😉 But will need to see some more reviews, this was first one which I respect! As I know Fextralife since DS3 Bosses... 😉
