For my audiophiles out there, 1 thing not mentioned in this video is the music and I kid you not when I say this is some of the BEST music I've heard in a JRPG in recent releases. They absolutely nailed it imo. Really solid title.

This game is outstanding! I bought it on a whim because it looked interesting and it was in sale, but I am completely honest if I say it's one of the best and most fun games I have played in a long while.
I am currently on my first playthough with Kasane. I am level 44 now and I am feeling the flow of combat really manifesting now. Using SAS whenever you can to get behind an enemy and backstabbing them to deal massive damage to it and the Crush gage, combining Arashi, Kyokaand Siden's power to form a devestating a combination of powers and going berserk on foes when Brain Field is active... it's just great.
Let's hope a second playthrough at some point with Yuito will be equally satisfying.
And yes... let's definitely hope for a sequel to this hidden gem. Tose are an underrated developer, even 42 years after its establishment.
Also my compliments to the video. Very informative, filled with action-packed scenes and shown from the perspectives of both Kasane and Yuito. You really played the fame. That's more that can be said about some reviewers. 😉

Scarlet Nexus is a very amazing Action game and mostly all of the special abilities are very useful to use as a passive and elemental infusion. Sometimes brain field is confusing to use. Although I experienced how it works is that when you get knocked out you can use brain field only for 60s. Similar to bosses like Kasane, Nagi and even Karen(Spoilers but if you already who he is. He'll be the final boss.)
Also this is an another reason why I play Scarlet Nexus: 4:16

This game has begun to charm me but ever since I first saw The Highlander in the 80s, I have watched uncountable people float a few feet in to the air while wind blows violently and lightning flashes all-around then a pulse of energy sends out a burst of light and a loud boom as the person's body arches in either pain or exstasy as they give a dramatic yell before collapsing to the ground, presumably now gifted with some increase in power or some new power.
It caught on like a flu just like inane phrases like "This ends now!" or "We're in!" or "Welcome to _____" and it blows my mind that if you were making your own movie or game that you would use a scene or a phrase that has not been used once or twice or even 5 times but a scene or a phrase that's been used 20 or 30 or 100 times.
If it was used once in a classic property then you repeat it for the first or second time then that's a show of respect or an homage BUT if it's been used dozens of times over 30 or 40 years then surely that's just brain-dead mimicry! Makes my little brain spin, anyway🤓😆

I enjoyed the characters even though milk toast. I was not disappointed. Hit all the adventure anime beats. The gift giving thing was fun watching the Bunker look more lived in. However... Any opinion on the DLC packs? As I understand it, they're mostly comprised of cutscenes, but I saw people mention some vague challenge/combat focused content associated with them? I couldn't figure out if that part was actually tied to the DLC itself, or whether that was added in a free update alongside the DLC or something.
I'd only really be interested in gameplay focused stuff or, if need be, important story additions and it's unclear to me what exactly I'd be getting if I were to buy those packs.
Oh, also - really great review! Very informative and well written. I like that Trails of Cold Steel comparison, definitely gave me a good impression of what to expect from that MC.

    • @harlingaming6905

The "Brain Eater"\DLC Pack 3 is the most significant paid content if my memory serves me correctly. It follows the antagonist and has better writing than the main story. However, if I remember correctly, to access DLC cutscenes you have to complete combat challenges (including a "new" boss) that either require you to be near the max level or be able to not get hit once.
If you absolutely love the combat and are willing to spend hours grinding levels, then this DLC is worth it. Otherwise, I'd say watch the DLC scenes on youtube.
Thanks for commenting and the encouragement! Always nice to encounter someone whose experienced the Trails series.

This may or may not be an uncommon take but I'm actually much less frustrated by Kasane than most people I've heard bring her up seem to be. And I'm only saying this because I'm pretty much exactly like that. I don't show much expressiveness, fail to make eye contact even when paying attention, don't come across as very empathetic. If I don't want to interact or in whatever bizarre logic in my head decide responding would be a waste of my time I just stubbornly clam up and leave people hanging instead of turning them down. When I do talk I don't notice if I'm being offensive or drone on long after people stop caring. I get objectively that I seem rude to people who don't know me well, but trying to not be a social failure takes conscious effort and a good deal of forcing.
So...Kasane's still a pretty frustrating character to put up with no matter how you slice it but she manages to not come off as unrealistic to me, just not neurotypical. And I liked her route for making it clearer that she's not the usual ice queen archetype; she just can't speak up worth a shit even when she damn well should, which I do relate to. I can't pull it off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure there's a name for our type.
Now Yuito. Yuito is just not a sane human being.

I only played through Kasanes route. With that though, I think I sunk about 20 or hours in the game. MAJOR SPOILERS so read at your own discretion.
The combat as said is nearly perfect and super satisfying, especially later into the game when you have access to all the SAS abilities and your brain map has a good chunk of it filled up. You just feel super powerful. And if you've been keeping up with bond episodes, the cool and bad assery factor is amplified.
Story was good for the most part but I really felt it went a little to "wtf" in some areas but didn't go hard enough in other areas. For example, I wasn't to hot on the mom plot line, I just didn't really care all that much and part of that just had to do with how bland (and honestly annoying) of a character Kasane is, and the mom storyline ends up being like... her whole shit. In areas not going hard enough, I don't think they went hard enough in the "assassination" plot line. The games story was kinda floundering for me up till that point but once I got to it I was hooked and super invested in the story. Best moment in the game for me was Kasane Vs. Yuito after we find Yuitos dad. That shit went soooooooo fucking hard for no reason and I was pumped, and actually made me wonder what the Yuito story had to offer me. But not much further in, they kind of drop the plot line, which ties into the whole "one phase we're trying to kill each other then the next we're omg besties." I also don't see me playing through Yuitos story since after the teams merge it seems both stories play out beat for beat with the only difference being which character I was playing as. This is also incredibly prevalent in the Kyoka reveal. God damn it, why didn't the writers commit to her being a twist villain.
Going back to the bond systems, idk if it's me but ever since Persona 5 I'm starting to notice JRPG's have been trying to replicate the social link system and it often times feels really forced, for example, I really didn't care much for Fire Emblem Three Houses social system. Loved the mechanics and story but I though the social aspect was tacked on. Scarlet Nexus is the same way. I really felt that the entire cast would've been sooooooooooo much more developed if the development wasn't locked behind the social system. Persona kind of has that same issue to an extent but there's still a lot of development for those characters outside of their respective social links, whereas Scarlet Nexus? There really isn't. The characters don't really have an arc, which for a game that's introducing a lot of big concepts, I felt they were incredibly lacking. There were characters I liked but I can't say I "loved" a specific character like I did Yukari, Kanji, or Ryuji.
Those are just my thoughts and opinions, I still enjoyed and listen to the opening theme every other day but man, I really hope a sequel of some sort comes out and just blows away, cause this new IP really does have the potential to be a JRPG main stay but it's just missing confidence in itself.

It's hard to play through both storylines, but if you want to get the most out of the game I'd say do it. Things do play out similarly, but some story beats are locked behind each protagonist. You don't have to buy it might be rewarding

1:52 Wait, what?!? A complete game at launch??? Naaaaah, you've got to be kidding: It's against the rules to offer a complete product when it is put on the shelves! Just ask the bunch of sheep that defend shady publishers with stupid arguments about "nowadays updates are ok", even when those games do not work without those day-one patches!

reasons i dont play industry defining games is cus theyre focus is hardly on fun... or style. Gimme an anime game unafraid to be niche anytime!

  • @ben_sisko2149

It's great you're recommending this game, mate... however, I think the way you talk about "anime games" is misleading. Meaning that you use that name for 2 VERY different types of games: games with anime AESTHETICS, and LICENSED anime games. The latter are, usually, mediocre or bad games, but among the former group thing are vastly different; many games with anime style graphics are some of the best ever. So, it's pretty absurd to just treat them as if they were the same. Licensed games tend to be kinda bad regardless of the aesthetics the choose.
But, anyway, yeah, pick this game up, everyone!

I enjoyed the story up to the point where literally everything here revealed and the mystery is gone also the point you made where they literally try to kill eachother then in the next chapter we are all good and sharing a room .. like what ?!! It takes me out of the immersion

    • @ThoA45
      @ThoA45 2 года назад

      really disliked this as well.
I'm struggling to finish the game right now because i don't like how it breaks the immersion like this.
It's an "anime" game i absolutely now that everyone will be friends and fight against the real baddy at some point but man, these moments of "let's fight each other TO DEATH" barely escape with your life to then have them saying "hey i need to talk to you, let's meet up ? just forget what just happened haha"
What the fuck ?It's so stupid and makes some events seems pointless.
I don't hate the game, i enjoy it but i'm frustrated that things like these exist as it would be a much better and coherent story with them.

@@ThoA45 I love the game's story but that's one thing I'll agree on. I don't remember if it's implied but I imagine the reason is Kasane's squad were reluctant to fight Yuito and are just following her to support her, but they themselves weren't trying to kill him. Shiden was against it too iirc.

I saw the art cover for this and me and my brother thought it was gonna be some edgy game with blood gore and slipknot!
(It looked interesting to me btw)
When I listen to the intro for the first time by the oral cigarettes I wanted more from this game I wanted to try this game out!
And I did playing this game feels soo good the graphics amazing the characters fun to play easily my favorite of 2021 along with ratchet and clank!
Yeah some parts can be rough around the edges but man this game is amazing I hope a sequel for this comes out (or gets announced)

Huh, now I see why it goes 70% on sale. The presentation sure looks appealing, but going by this review that wont be enough and I would just end up being annoyed. Might aswell just boot up DMCV again for the spectacle combat or finally try Persona5, that I havent even touched, for the friendship simulator. I dunno, maybe animu games are just not for me.

Same im looking for an rpg. This looks corny but ok. A crap story, same environments, same enemies. I only like certain anime. Just seems like its fun to fight at first then boring.
