In this video, we jumped into the Splice studio for a time-based beat making challenge. We used Ableton Live to make a future bass track in under 10 minutes. Using a time constraint when making music can be a great way to practice your workflow and get outside of your head.

@@oxiary i'm still learning the craft. What you're talking about is side-chaining the chords to duck to give room for the vocals, right?
@@drewbruggman i like your funny words, magic man
Give this man one hour or 3 bro i could watch him the whole day its awesome.
hendrix First one ❤️thanks!
Nick, I could feel your frustration with the time constraint! But you proved to be cool and kept your panic in check. Much respect and you are very likable in this video...thank you and good job.
Aw man the difference between 10 minutes versus the extra tweaks is huge! I would like to see your full process sometime. Great video!
This is great, I'm new to the genre and looking at tackling a track within four weeks for a course in Ableton. This gives me a great starting point for my own tracks. Thanks!
these videos are really helpful, keep it up!! 👍
I Just Love the vibe of this song , future bass is awesome
You keep smashing it, thank you! Love Novation, keep up the great work man!
Violated 🙏 thanks!
When Nick only had a minute left and he was flying through the Splice app it reminded me of how trash my work flow would be without it. That app is a lifesaver for real. The organization and utility of it are priceless.
Thanks to your lecture, I was able to make the beat. Thank you very much.🔥🔥
Awesome! Love the vocal melody att the end! 🔥🙏
Inspired. Great job and thanks for posting!
that vocal one-shot is everything😍
Loved this! Learned a lot!
wow until I saw you work here I was not aware of the Splice app usability :) ty bro - learned so much from you when I thought I knew so much already I feel like a noob again - love the feeling.
Thats pretty sick!!! 👍👍👍
Nailed it!
Beautiful ❤️
nice! would love to see a tutorial on how you did those vocal chops
Very good, Thanks
I like challenges like this ❤️
That was flippin sick, well done bro 😅
Great video! I myself get caught up in a drag and end up getting nowhere. Fun to see people who don't. Lol lessons being learned
really good. re-thinking of applying splice now....will dig in for sure...thanks for this awesome vid. Would like to see more genre but not for 10 mins may be more. cheers
Uawwwwwwwww...... Thx Nick and Splice!!!!
that was impressive.
That lfo rate automation trick is what I was looking for
🔥🔥🔥
haha..It's cute to be ashamed for 10 minutes. This video will help with greater inspiration. I am glad to see a new video while watching a lofi video. Thank you nickthechen~ Please make good music in the future
Bring back "Against the Clock", dig it!
awesome tutorial !! I just have a question, about the end there, how do you use a vocal chop with your keyboard like at 9:00?
Great video, thanks. Can I use music created in Ableton Live for RUclips Content ID monetization?
You're awesome! Where did you get that "cas edx" cymbal sound from?
0:28 pitch control
More future bass and some drill
very good! Only the saw would give him more power!
Can you make that Serum bass avail as a preset???
by the way what keyboard is that :-)
Does anyone know how to the LFO thing he did to the operator synth but in Serum?
sedrick banerjee it’s an fx-plug-in called lfo-tool. they have it for free on splice. you could put it after every instrument, whether it’s operator or serum.
anyone know how to do the pitch bend he does for operator but for serum? I like almost swelling effect it gives off.
You can probably automate pitch bend or maybe frequency shifter?
when is this man going to host his own twitch stream? ( p.s more creative hip hop please like mac miller type productions )
Hey! Been streaming on Splice's channel: www.twitch.tv/splicetvlive Monday/Friday at 5pm EST!!
Anyone know any songs/artists like the final product?
why don’t use serum for the chords also? 🤔
Does LFOtool come with Standard Ableton or do you have to buy it from somewhere?
LFOTool is developed by Xfer , you can get it on Splice 👋
What is that device next to his keyboard that is curved ?
what is that white controller next to your mouse, with all the button?
Can someone please explain, I am 'rent to buy' Serum. I get notifications that I should check Splice samples.. But these arent free are they? Do you pay monthly for a certain amount of free downloads?
est1993getme they have several plans, which give you an amount of credits you can use to download samples. i think plans start at 7.99
that keyboard plus mouse is dope af,may i know the model name??
Nick do afro house
yes !
Where'd you get that Serum skin?`???????
it's called Prometheus, search reddit they'll tell you how to get it. It's free
Why don’t you use the capture function? You went in and played something then played it again to record it could have given you a bit more time. 🤷♂️
colton carroll great feedback, honestly it’s just a habit to record , at home I’ve got the capture button mapped to a midi foot pedal to try to incorporate it to my workflow
what program he search snare future bass ?? tell me plzzz thank u so much
That’s the Splice desktop app!
What is the name of that touchpad mouse you are using?
Just Best From sample?
Is splice having a Corona virus sale or something?
RIGHT?!
what keyboard is that ?
Why did you put the kick drum on a drum rack and use midi to control it while the snare you just plopped the sample audio directly in a track?
Bryan Dunk I normally use a midi track (drum rack or simpler/sampler) for any patterns that aren’t going to repeat consistently (like the snare that’s just on beat 3). Honestly the kick pattern is simple enough to be just directly on an audio track ...it was definitely out of habit that I chose drum rack for the kick.
I love his ableton skin what is this
So... how did he get Ableton not to hog up the audio device so he was able to play sound from Ableton AND Splice?
Even if I disable “exclusive control” in the sound device, Ableton will NOT allow other programs to use the same sound device.
Make on dubstep please
future bass beat? beat? B E A T ?
project file plz splice
no matter how many times I search or try to reinstall I just don't have operator...it just doesn't exist
Another title for the video: Using trackpad like a pro
10:58
Yo why does your basic operator sound sound so much different?
When I search operator, nothing comes up.
Gospel Hip Hop
This video was helpful, but as a beginner I'm still lost. Is there anybody out there willing to help me out?
With that little extra time .
*3 hours later*
Ok this is the result.
why only one synth
bro, his pc is on acid
can someone do the same on fl STUDIO?
Yes

you can tell hes not really used to make future bass but nice vid anyways
Well, that explains why he CHALLENGED himself to make one.
Future Bass? 10 minutes? 😂
if the goal is learning, These kind of challenge are completely none sense.
They can teach the absolute basics of future bass and some production techniques to beginners. And they're fun to watch for experienced producers
