I have to agree with someone else in the comment section, who brung to my attention a Vet with a disability sustained while in service especially the loss of limbs would recieve over 2600 a month and could easily recieve other benefits. I am a former Marine Im 80% disabled (finesse) and I receive 1667 monthly. Hmmm seems fishy just a little bit. A junkie will say anything for a pity party that will result in him getting his way!
You also have to remember that they commented that everyone is on some drug addiction. And the vet even acknowledged that the reason he’s in this situation and the way his relationship with his family is they way it is was his fault. Even his best friend fessed up to all of this stemming from their addiction. So even if he is getting money, you have to think about the possibility that it may be being spent on drugs. And even if it’s not, it’s possible it’s going towards invisible expenses we can’t see (if you want to be optimistic) such as check ups or visits concerning his health as a simple urgent care without insurance can easily stack up especially if you want preventative care. The one I work it to be seen alone is 120. Including being treated for the ONE issue. I’ve seen medication that’s supposed to be “affordable” wound up being $1000 alone. www.militarytimes.com/veterans/2017/12/06/number-of-homeless-veterans-nationwide-rises-for-first-time-in-seven-years/... 40000 homeless vets 25000 with some form of assisted living leaving 15000 with nothing. The idea that this guy is a homeless vet ain't out of the question. Besides that fact to put this dudes homelessness entirely on him would be like looking at all the ppl in the ghetto and telling them that their situation is entirely on them and there fault, from gangs to petty crime, which would be silly. More so it's just the case that our exploitative system is rittled with cracks that ppl like this dude fall through, just because someone has a decent experience serving our authoritarian government doesn't mean everyone has that experience.
Mad props! Thanks for sharing the horrors of addiction and letting them tell their story's and treating them with dignity and respect. I'm grateful for every day I'm sober, 3 yrs now and hopefully many more.
Heartbreaking! As a mother, I would have been broken from seeing my son in that place...I pray for his mother & I pray that her son recovers & goes back home to his mother, so she can have peace💔
I knew Wheels around 2013-2014 when I was homeless in Vegas. He’s a great dude. You’ll see him on the strip weaving palm leaf flowers. Say hi. He’s really nice.
I lived in Vegas as a young kid, me and my friends used to explore the flood system tunnels all the time. You could travel from the redrock area to the Strat tower and the main strip without ever leaving the system. Back then there was perhaps a few dozen people at the most living down there. They always left us alone and we left them alone, except on the rare occasion we'd buy cigarettes from them.
interesting, cause im lowk getting mad at these 2 "guide" dudes acting like they gonna get stabbed n shot for being down there. these r people living not a video game dungeon bra

@@markhepworth4804 Unintelligent, illiterate, ignorant or uninformed, take your pick lol Some people just want to spread their negativity because it's consuming their lives like the virus that it is.
The guy with his wife was amazing.. she literally took a tunnel of nothing, in2 a cozy lil home with multiple rooms.. she legit turned nothing in2 something, that was super cool 👏👏👏👏💯
@mcfcbeeman Brexit well she was the dumb bitch to go along with it. She must not have much self preservation, or they are both hopelessly addicted to meth.
God, I'm blessed to be sober. 5 years and counting. Videos like this remind me of where some of my family ended up, and I thank the universe that I continue the road of sobriety. I hope those people see the light.
Being a recovered addict myself , I genuinely felt bad for all of these people but mainly the one talking about his family that really hit home for me.
@@megabadass30 That was fabricated, because the Shine-a-light guy built it up to be so dangerous, when in reality nothing they encountered turned out to be dangerous.
Damm youtubejun.... you stoled my comment LMFAO I was about to say the exact same thing just for that I have to give you a like LOL but yeah that was the funniest part of the whole video but listening to some of their stories is just heartbreaking especially the guy who quit heroin and said he bring his mom there and she couldn't even come the whole way until she started crying and the homeless vet felt pretty bad for him as well with no family and all well he do have family they just don't mess with him pretty sad heartbreaking stories we're all human we all bleed red and we're all eventually going to be going to the same place in the end at least I hope LOL
My step-dad lived there for years after my mother died. He was lost without her. He passed away a few years ago. The only person he kept in contact with was my nephew. After he died, my nephew brought his body back home to Florida and had him buried next to my mother. Very 😔 sad!
There was a homeless guy who would sleep on the streets near my old Costa job. At the end of every shift I'd get a free coffee but instead I'd give it to him because he told me what he liked. Did that every day until I didn't see him on the street anymore, next time I saw him he was off the streets, looking much much healthier. What I did cost nothing, and sure it didn't help him get off of the streets, but every time we saw eachother (and still do now) we have a chat and it's really nice to talk to him. It really doesn't take much to make someone feel cared for
A little goes a long way with people who don't have much. You done a good thing. Not only did you give this person your coffee you also treated them like a human instead of ignoring them.❤️
When I was homeless in New York City there were many people living in the subway tunnels there. It's dark and dirty and the tunnels just go on forever. People can and do get lost down there ( or killed) and never resurface. I found the tunnels terrifying, but they did provide some shelter in the winter from the snow and cold. There are strange rooms, some even with furniture and power that whole groups take over and guard violently.
Nice documentary . You treated them with respect and dignity. There is a great book written back in the late 80s early 90s by Jennifer toth called the "mole people." She lived below the streets of New York for a year with homeless people that were so mentally ill they refused to go to the surface streets. They had their own form of government and tapped into City Power, Water Etc. I believe they even took over one of the old Grand Central stations. I highly recommend the book.
Minor7thb9 same, oh no, waking up in my memory foam mattress, ac and fans going. Driving my Camaro to my tech job at Samsung. Getting breakfast and coffee in their cafeteria. Life is hard. 😶😶
True but everyone has struggles. It’s important to know that your concerns are valid, and that life is still unhappy for lower middle class or people on the poverty line for various reasons. You shouldn’t be shamed because someone is living in a tunnel. Your concerns may include being able to pay rent, struggling to heal from a car accident, or having youe anxiety triggered by a new relationship. Don’t invalidate your issues!
Ive had many friends who were homeless and believe me some are truly better than others i have known. I used to bring everyone food. I was well known. This one guy lived on a bus stop bench Crazy world we live in! Always appreciate what you have because many don't have. And always show respect because it will be returned
@@gabbywayne7921 no offense but good for you? Just cuz you got clean doesn't take away from the truth that damn near every tweaker is a Macgyver type son of a bitch.
Getting clean off of drugs was the hardest thing i have ever done in my life, im going on 4 years clean now. I worked my ass off in the last 4 years and now i have bought my own house on a decent size of land with ocean views, a 6m fishing boat and paid off my 4wd. It was not easy by any meens but i did it. I hope with all my heart that people struggling with addiction can get clean. God bless you all!
idk if anyone has told you this but I'm fucking proud of you. Truly and honestly. I'm almost 5 years clean and it's not been easy at all. After I met my husband, he moved me out of my situation, got me off drugs and got me into a treatment center. Now we are moving into our first house together with our two kids. I am not rich by any means, but I am now managing a restaurant and making more money then I ever thought I could or deserved. It was not easy, I put him thru hell. But we did it and I truly understand the determination and strength it takes to stay clean and progress with your life. Trust and believe when I say that I'm proud of you.
That couple from Hawaii seemed very nice. I hope they went through with their plan kn going to rehab and I hope they are either getting back on their feet or have made huge progress to being back in their feet.
That lady is ride or die! She left once he said they need to leave. She dropped everything for him. I hope they get out the tunnels one day and stay together happy and healthy.
10 years an he didnt hurt nobody. Now that's crazy. They use them like slaves probably in prisons. Well..atleast he isn't catching Covid-19 in a prison now.
Rude or die is completely fukin moronic. To let some dick destroy you life..... women who allow men to destroy them deserve what they get. The worst part is dragging the children down with them
that war vet lost his legs, survived a war, only to end up living in an underground tunnel & nearly being drowned to death by a dog in a tunnel flash flood.
@@jordanzachman686 Who cares whether he's honorably discharged or not. Any vet who spent any amount of time in the service owes nothing to the country they served for. The military is a sham anyways. How everyday people ever became responsible for presidents and leaders minuscule problems is beyond me. The civil war and ww2 are the only wars that made sense for a civilian to put their life on the line.

Why don't u back to New Zealand instead live in a car? New Zealand is a good country with alot of space to live? Sorry for asking bro I just curious. Tq
The man talks about his gambling addiction and the reporter then tells him he knows people that can get him into sports betting? Responsible journalism right there 👍🏽
I remember a couple of months ago when they said Vegas flooded due to its high waters worst in decades, I can only imagine the struggle the had to face during that time on top of this. So sad
I had a middle class childhood with great parents and still found myself addicted to heroin. It doesn't discriminate, anybody from any walk of life can become an addict. I started with pain pills and slowly graduated to heroin. I was fortunate to get clean before I either overdosed or ended up in prison for a very long time. I was able to get clean with the help of methadone. I was on methadone for 3 years before I decided I wanted to slowly taper down and stop methadone completely. Today I have a great life. I owe everything I have in life to the methadone clinic. The clinic saved my life and for that I will be forever grateful.
How does the Methadon programm Work in the US? I am from Europe, Austria and I started heroin on a daily base 10years ago. Now I am since 4-5years in a "Methadon" programm - it s called "substitution" programm and I do not get Methadon, I get Morphin, but it s nearly the same. I have to go to the normal doctor (the same, where you go, If you have headache or stomeache or other small Problems) every four weeks and get a recipes for the Morphin. Then I go to the doctor for my district and get a stamp, after that I bring the recipe to a pharmacy, pay 18€ and get my Morphin for one week. (Some people have to go to the pharmacy everyday, but If you have a job and/or a usual life, you can get it for one week.) Ohh and 2-4 Times a year you have to make a drug Test for other drugs - If you only consume weed, it s no problem, but If you took other drugs, you have to go to the pharmacy everyday. I am very happy with our system - I mean, I can have a normal life, because of it. I studied at the university, have my work and really have a completly normal life, I am sure, this would not be possibil for me, it I had to live in a country with a worse Substitution-system.
Very true addiction does not discriminate rich poor women men often smart talented people. Asking for help takes courage but there's definitely help out there. I have witnessed many people get clean and live beautiful full lives. Good for you!!! And thank you for sharing your story.
@@BabeRideEasy I don t think the important thing for addicted people is to become clean. A lot of people f.e. take heroin as a form of selfmedication, it helps them to live a normal life. The Problem most countries have, is that people do not see drug addiction as an illness, they see it as something criminal and force the addicted people to choose between "beeing on drugs and a valueless criminal" or "becoming sober and be a part of the society again". They completly missunderstand addiction and the effects of the drugs themselves. Since this missunderstanding addicted peopleople are not allowed to choose a way between these two extremes - between beeing sober or beeing addicted. They are not allowed to have a normal Life, while getting theire "medicine" in a legal way. But that s the only real good solution - for addicted people and for the society as a whole. Countries whithout a working "legal substitution programm" just have to stop theire "war against drugs", through theire prejudgements in the trash and have to give addicted people the possibility to live a normal life as a normal part of the society without the obligation to become clean. If they won t do this, theire drug problems will become worse and worse.
@@eXtremeGoLden you make some good points. I agree people who suffer from chronic pain should have access to remedies. People become addicted to narcotics for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes it's to self medicate from psychological and emotional anguish. Addiction is an illness in itself. I don't judge people who feel the need to self medicate. If they can function and lead a normal life good for them. I have personally witnessed too many situations where drug addiction has destroyed lives which is sad to me. There is a solution, that one is God, maybe find him now. Bless you😇
I am very impressed when the guys start the one says he wants to start at the most dangerous tunnel because there’s a girl who’s 7-8 months pregnant he wants to get out. Major respect
This is a stretch of a guess but I'm betting he is trying to keep his eyes adjusted to the dark cause he is the "ok" guy to have down there so he greets the people before the foreigners see them.
I used to live in Las Vegas from 2004-07 before moving to Colorado and I had no idea these communities existed. I hope life gets better for all these people. Homeless people can be so kind.
I wonder if Wonton Don knows about whats called the legal 2000 hold in vegas which is similar to the L.A. 5150, EXCEPT in las vegas they take these people off the streets, get them into these easter seal programs and then SHIP THEM OUT OF VEGAS. The ACLU already had to get involved, and what this video shows is a group of people profiting off of sending homeless people away. The whole REHAB thing is false! It's a money operation. Look up the reason why las vegas had to have a legal 2000 hold even made. I think you might be surprised!
There are some really cool people down there. My heart breaks for anyone living in those conditions. Those Hawaiians were really good people, and the two men (the war vet) they're sweethearts. GOD bless them
Agreed. It could be any of us....even without an addiction. Losing a job, no family, whatever it maybe. And sadly, vets, hard working people that want to work, children that ran away from abusive family or an orphanage, and some Einsteins. ***Saddest of all, they are surrounded by some of the richest people that could do wonders for almost all underneath the world. ***
BRANDY D lol it’s cause there addicts they probably where wishing for a little money like the vet he probably gets money quite often as he’s a vet yet why’s he’s down there y’all ask? he’s an addict
This is so sad. No one should have to live like this. There are so many abandoned buildings that could be turned into homes for these people. This hurts my heart 😢.
It's funny because I was homeless for a little more than two weeks in the middle of nowhere Texas...in the middle of scorching summer... and surrounded by ex-cons and alcoholics/drug addicts. I slept on the ground, and did all sorts of shit but beg for money. Had all sorts of adventures. They were some of the coolest people I've ever met. One thing I learned from this is: society isn't for everyone. You can choose to opt out and live your life the way you see fit. They were content with it. I respect that...but I got myself out of that shit. Going to China to teach/learn next year after next semester.
The lady from Hawaii.....AMAZING!! You could live like a king and not find love and commitment like that. This guy takes her to live under ground and she stays right by his side and creates a home for both......she does it all! Wonderful lady and what a lucky man!!
It is absolutely crazy in Hawaii there a good bit of people that live in upside down rail road carts they make homes in those places you'd not believe i seen one they made homes in four of them two on each side and a tarp over top the middle part turned in to a big kitchen for all them the come up with some amazing stuff...
God bless the dudes who put their time and energy into helping these people. Most addicts I’ve known never improved no matter how much people tried helping.
Just remember that those people down there could be anyone of us, including me. That’s why we must be selfless, caring and respectful. It’s very sad but it’s reality.
Yeah I don't fucking so these people just gave up ! Mental health it's just another excuse for not getting up in the morning to go to work ! That's the bottom line !
I'm currently homeless. With my partner. I'm 36 and so is he. We're still trying to figure out how to get out of being homeless and off drugs. We have no clue where to start. We've lost just about everything except our two babies. Two furry baby's. One 8 other is 3. ❤️
People like that with humor are the best kind of humor. I’m addicted to Oxycodone and I’m clean now. But I make jokes about being an addict. Can’t take everything so seriously in this world
maybac_monroe mate I lost it there 🤣🤣🤣. Like he was fully thought that the drain was some invisibility-sound-proof drain. fully yelling expecting them to not even notice
20:31 Nomination for best understatement of all time, “if you live in these tunnels, you have a problem…and it’s bigger than you realize.” Our country needs to look at this problem as a whole system: mental health, addiction, homelessness, etc.
@boog gang6 agreed I lived in Vegas my whole life. I worked as a night club promoter for awhile. Tourists having a good time with a deep pocket would tip nice and since I was being paid well anyway I'd pass the tip to the first random bum i saw. Now I'm enlightened now and realize i did nothing more than help an unmotivated guy or gal get a fix for an hour...gee youthful naiveness at it's finest ..
Feel sad for their children and parents. All the people that loved them and have tried to help, only to get burned time and time again. Your heart should hurt for them.
I got myself into meth and homeless in a matter of 2 years. I'm proud to say I'm newly in recovery, starting this February. I can see how this happens and I hope the best for all of them and anyone still in the throws of addiction Edit* update* amazing how so many people saw my comment and supported it. I want to thank everyone for being so kind. My story is not that unique, my downfall was kick started from trauma and death, which is by no means a exscuse or a free pass. But i will say it added to my mindset in using. My problem was not being able to talk about the problem. But meth made me feel secure and confident enough to "process" it. So I thought...
I can't imagine losing what teeth I have left, way before their time. Good luck to you, stay straight there guy. I had serious dental problems since I was 9.
Hoping for Blessings for u. You need to get in a better situation soon.. I know easier said then done. I was homeless at one point for 2 1/2 years. I went back to school & got a LPN nursing degree. I’ve been working as a hospice nurse 15 years. I drive a newer car & I have a house I pay mortgage on!!!! Did it ALL while fighting a 20+ year heroin addiction. It is totally possible to make ur way back up. I had to fix my credit. I had to take the bus rain snow or shine to classes. I have a life even I never thought possible. I came from poverty. As a kid I lived in basements with my mom. Ate food at churches and free stores. Everything I have I fought for not a damn thing came easy. At one point I was sleeping in a trap house. I was to high to move. I remember watching mice run over me & then Ild nod out again.
drugs are a symptom. go to an na meeting. they all smoke. psychology has multiple facets but most of what people encounter is Corp and for profit. not for profits also pay their owners handsomely.. neither has incentive to tell the truth. academic psychology on the other hand knows addiction is a result of trauma and often fucked up parents either trying to destroy adaptive behaviors or unable to teach better than the Mal adaptive they have. this society is sick to its core. most of us are tools or slaves and will turn our kids into the same. what we've been telling addicts might work for some but... it's become clear to med sci brain is incredibly capable of re wiring.. like the aditciob itself more frequently used paths get preference "I'm always an adict"... woops... we know diet and exercise affects emotional regulation inhabition and the executive functions for behavior regulation. we know some things along those lines aid neuro plasticity.. aka the brains ability to adapt. basicly the worst things u can do to a loved on is judge them. if they steal from u or beat u.. yeah cast them out. otherwise.. like anyone else u want to succeed be positive and learn about their likes share your own do things togeather when it works.. not everyone who trys anything will get into it. if they have nothing else or people leave JUST because of a rumor.. aka not their behavior or theft.. well now guess what's most likely to happen. there are things like mdma and lsd that may be capable of helping some of the most damaged people. percicely because of the altered state they cause. apa says emotional neglect in childhood combined with verbal abuse... 4x more likely to result in adult with cluster b disorder. Which feature weak to non existant sympathy empathy and cosience. often a failure to accurately conceptualize self vs others.. I see this as a huge danger compared to drugs. cause if that person then becomes a parent.. happens every day... u think more or less likely to up the damage level? they form corrosive parents that suck the soul out of their children and or worse. lsd and mdma have many prominent shrinks that think they can help heal those conditions.. the trauma that creates them needs to be addressed but if you are afflicted u end up putting so many bandaisds and walls on place.. that Geting to it to address it... not easy
MAG God'z AmonG Men and? Lol drug addicted should be treated not thrown in prisons most of these people myself included (sober for 6 years) have experiences extreme trauma and loss they don’t want to continue doing what they are doing but it’s very very hard to stop especially when you are extremely poor
l want to echo appreciation to the filmmakers for treating these people with dignity and respect. To see the humanity and humility shown in those living with seemingly so little in stark contrast to some harsh comments made from people sitting comfortably in their homes at their computers is truly humbling.
It's the people like this, who stuck around when everybody else gave up, that I owe my life to. Thank you for doing what you do for these people. Today I have 3 years and 5 days clean. And I'm thankful for every minute.

Bless you😇
My mom also had success quitting by using methadone. It really does help.

I'm currently homeless. With my partner. I'm 36 and so is he. We're still trying to figure out how to get out of being homeless and off drugs. We have no clue where to start. We've lost just about everything except our two babies. Two furry baby's. One 8 other is 3. ❤️
Omg. I hope that things are better now? Please give me a update!
"I actually do have feelings and a heart"...
Yeah really sucks to hear someone say that ..
That hit me.
this video obviously addresses serious issues but “casa de cripple” cracked me up ngl
People like that with humor are the best kind of humor. I’m addicted to Oxycodone and I’m clean now. But I make jokes about being an addict. Can’t take everything so seriously in this world
Casa de cripple🤣
“They have no idea we’re down here”
“How u guys doin”
maybac_monroe mate I lost it there 🤣🤣🤣. Like he was fully thought that the drain was some invisibility-sound-proof drain. fully yelling expecting them to not even notice
maybac_monroe that was hilarious 😂

20:31 Nomination for best understatement of all time, “if you live in these tunnels, you have a problem…and it’s bigger than you realize.” Our country needs to look at this problem as a whole system: mental health, addiction, homelessness, etc.
It’s crazy that they literally live there in the pitch dark
ikr
they are reptilians they can see in the dark
@@User_guest why are all barstool fans a bunch of dumbass chuds who have no ability to empathize with people in this situation?
Their eyes adjust
Surprise they dont go blind
So sad. My heart hurts for people who end up like this.
its happening to the whole USA.
100% of the people watching this video didn't search for this video lmao
JoJo K Yeah cause we didn’t know this existed
Smoked a blunt & came on yt seen this 😂

BEST COMMENT EVER

Great video, all of these people deserve better. I love how they look out for each other.
"They have no idea we're down he-"
*"Hey how you guys doing :)"*
Me too lmao
I just came to look for this comment
He said "the best part" 🤣🤣🤣
I laughed honestly lol
I got myself into meth and homeless in a matter of 2 years. I'm proud to say I'm newly in recovery, starting this February. I can see how this happens and I hope the best for all of them and anyone still in the throws of addiction
Edit* update* amazing how so many people saw my comment and supported it.
You can do it. Stay strong and never give up!
God bless you and keep fighting for your sobriety, you can do it ❤️
Keep up your fight. Much love
Good luck to you stay strong...
"At first i didnt want to spend one night here, and 5 years later and ive never left", scary what drugs can do
Fr!!
😞
Spend 30 years running from the fear of a 10 year charge
drugs are a symptom. go to an na meeting. they all smoke. psychology has multiple facets but most of what people encounter is Corp and for profit. not for profits also pay their owners handsomely.. neither has incentive to tell the truth. academic psychology on the other hand knows addiction is a result of trauma and often fucked up parents either trying to destroy adaptive behaviors or unable to teach better than the Mal adaptive they have. this society is sick to its core. most of us are tools or slaves and will turn our kids into the same. what we've been telling addicts might work for some but... it's become clear to med sci brain is incredibly capable of re wiring.. like the aditciob itself more frequently used paths get preference "I'm always an adict"... woops... we know diet and exercise affects emotional regulation inhabition and the executive functions for behavior regulation. we know some things along those lines aid neuro plasticity.. aka the brains ability to adapt. basicly the worst things u can do to a loved on is judge them. if they steal from u or beat u.. yeah cast them out. otherwise.. like anyone else u want to succeed be positive and learn about their likes share your own do things togeather when it works.. not everyone who trys anything will get into it. if they have nothing else or people leave JUST because of a rumor.. aka not their behavior or theft.. well now guess what's most likely to happen.
there are things like mdma and lsd that may be capable of helping some of the most damaged people. percicely because of the altered state they cause.
apa says emotional neglect in childhood combined with verbal abuse... 4x more likely to result in adult with cluster b disorder.
Which feature weak to non existant sympathy empathy and cosience. often a failure to accurately conceptualize self vs others..
I see this as a huge danger compared to drugs. cause if that person then becomes a parent.. happens every day...
u think more or less likely to up the damage level? they form corrosive parents that suck the soul out of their children and or worse.
lsd and mdma have many prominent shrinks that think they can help heal those conditions.. the trauma that creates them needs to be addressed but if you are afflicted u end up putting so many bandaisds and walls on place.. that Geting to it to address it... not easy
Thankyou for being so kind to them
The Hawaiian mans wife is the true definition of “down to ride”
True love is blind, deaf, and on the meth!
She has a 85$ dollar mod I can't even afford tf.
She should've stayed in Hawaii.
If Vegas had the same laws as Hawaii these tunnels wouldn't exist... Let that sink in
MAG God'z AmonG Men and? Lol drug addicted should be treated not thrown in prisons most of these people myself included (sober for 6 years) have experiences extreme trauma and loss they don’t want to continue doing what they are doing but it’s very very hard to stop especially when you are extremely poor
“they have no idea we’re down here”
“oh hey guys what up?”
my exact thought lol
l want to echo appreciation to the filmmakers for treating these people with dignity and respect. To see the humanity and humility shown in those living with seemingly so little in stark contrast to some harsh comments made from people sitting comfortably in their homes at their computers is truly humbling.
I agree with that
It's the people like this, who stuck around when everybody else gave up, that I owe my life to. Thank you for doing what you do for these people.
Today I have 3 years and 5 days clean. And I'm thankful for every minute.
That's wonderful Brittany!
