I have watched all of the videos on your channel, i didnt find the channel until Adam was doing his house but went back to the start and binge watched my way upto date ...here's to the next 300 🍾👏👏
Lovely job. I've done loads of cut roofs down the years. I think I'd enjoy working alongside Rich. It's a skill I fear the younger generations could miss due to trusses etc. Great vlog 🔨🪚👍
String line touch is masterly, I’m not a chippy/roofer but that ridge crown would’ve had me waking up at 2 in the morning for ages. Tiles in place and ridge tiles no way near touching ridge beam, every day a school day Rich, cheers I can now sleep.
I can not tell you how good it is to see the art of building at its best. Far too many devlopments are slapped up straight lines.. The overhang for the porch is going to look great. How nice to have client who knows what they want and i prepared to pay for it. the hipped gable end on the next bit will be fun. I built one on the end of my house primarily to smooth out the airstream from the prevailing wind.. I makes for a much quieter gable end.
Great videos as usual, as a carpenter myself with over 45 years experience if you want to get the lay board angle at the top, to save you having to drag the timber up there to be scribed, it is the side cut angle of the jack rafter as marked from a roofing square. Only works if both roofs are the same angle. Hope this helps.
I tell you what, Richard is something else, what a brilliant carpenter, between the two of you, and Matt, with his plastering, you almost make a first class building firm😂😂😂😂,only joking. Keep up the good work. Colin
I have no connection with building or construction but I find your videos not only informative but also thoroughly entertaining, plus I have learned a few things along the way. Keep up the great work and here’s to the next 300 videos.
The original roof could have sagged over time, and gravity, then your lay board follows it and there ain't much you can do about that. Great video gents.
Happy 300th chaps. Why is it that when Rich was working on the roof there was little rain, then Adam turns up and the weather goes to pot.😂 Great video by the way...
Great to see you guys back together again 🙂. You can tell that Rich was top student at school when it came to Pythagoras Theorem 😂. I really enjoy watching your videos, they’re top notch and the music is fantastic. Cheers guys 👍🙂
Very interesting and well explained as usual thanks chaps. If possible I'd be interested in seeing how the valley gutters are finished by the roofers. I've got concrete section ones that began leaking on a 1970's built bungalow. I replaced the felt underneath and relayed them a few years ago but next time they leak I need to install a more modern solution. Cheers.
Compound hip roofs - is the correct terminology. Bast...rd hips or miters terminology I understand was/is used to describe the difficulty in cutting,/building them. 🤬 Maths 😂😂 Richard did a nice job, string line on the ridge board to align rafters is a good tip 👍
Cracking job and video as always! Have I really watched 300 videos, it doesn’t seem 5 minutes ago you started?!? Here’s to the next 300! Have a good week. 👍🏼
Lovely to see you guys back on the same job. Nice to have a well chilled and less stressed Rich too. Nothing like a good bit of wood butchery in the open air to get the blood flowing either !! Are those rafters over specked ?? Seem to be a big section for that span ?? Cracking vid guys cheers.
congrats on 300 vids . hard to believe its that many. i started when Adam started wrecking his house . ep 2 of that i think . then went back and watched from the start. I'm glad to say that rich kept his talywhacker locked away. roof is coming along nicely. what's going on the flat parts . are they warm roofs i hate doing a bastard hip. bloody nuisance . only advice i would give is set up 3 saws. one at each bevel angle and one 90 degrees. its all the swapping the saw that wrecks your head and allows errors to happen
Haha! The tallywhacker episode! 100 subscribers that was! Fair play, Alan. I'm pretty sure we could muster up 3 saws between us, I'll pass that motion forwards! Have a great week mate, take care.
I love the attention to detail on the roofing work as always. A very happy roofer behind you & something makes me think you enjoyed doing this one Rich. Shame the customer hasn’t opted for vaulted ceilings given the location as they would look unreliable glazed across the pitches.
Hi Lads, I think that scaffolder that quoted 20k was trying to pull your pants down! I had a tin lid on my house which was 17m x 12m, got quoted 9k & 4k by two companies. I went with the 4k and it was fine. I think he under quoted, but nevermoaned or mentioned it. Love the videos, keep up the good work. 👍
hello again nice to see a hand cut roof .... looks more interesting with the flat part and will help to conceal the solar pannels .... there were some solar roof tiles on the market a while back not sure if those are still about or how effective they are .......
Hi Rich, great looking job you done there for a complex roof. When you drew your arc how did you choose the 4.2m measurement, did you have a rough idea from the app your ridge height or were you just allowing enough distance for the ridge tiles to sit below the existing roofline ? Great video ! I'll have to watch it a few times for it to sink in !👍👍👍👍👍
The 4.2m was just a figure far enough along the wall plate to allow us to pull up to the proposed ridge height it needs to be the same measurement both sides. I guessed at the potential ridge height as I knew it was going to be lower but I did get my pair of rafters up there and eyed it across before breaking into the roof. Hope this helps but feel free to to ask any more questions and I’ll try to help 👍🏻
Thanks for the reply, I thought that possibly the 4.2m figure was just over half the span and you were bisecting a line up at 90°. Similar to how you would achieve a line 90° to a baseline on a flat board using a compass.
Hey guys its firring strip not furring strip. Furring is whats rolled up in your belly button. (Why is it always blue colour, even when you have a red T shirt on?).. Great stuff lads as usual. All the best.
Well it's your own fault for getting caught and being sent to prison! Let that be a lesson! Haha! Thank you, Paul. It's your support that keeps us going mate, take care.
They're over the moon mate, genuinely. Our customers have removed trees to give them thier view back and will have a hipped roof so not to block it again.
I had to mute a few minutes to listen to the wife so didn’t get all the commentary, got to ask why is the lath so sporadic and the felt upside down in some places?
Did you know that YT channel 'build better things' has slated your flat roofing skills? Of course, a Scot who is trying to flog his architectural services knows best! 😊😅
Haha! Yes Nigel, we've been made aware! I've watched the video and I've got to say he is talking out of his derrière for the most part! If you fancy a front row seat to a ding dong head over to his channel later on because I'm going to retort in my particular style! Cheers mate, hope you're well.

Amazing mate! In more ways than one! Thank you , Buzz! Your support means so much to us, hope you continue to watch! Take care.
Lovely job. I've done loads of cut roofs down the years. I think I'd enjoy working alongside Rich. It's a skill I fear the younger generations could miss due to trusses etc. Great vlog 🔨🪚👍
Thank you, mate. Take care.
Great work chaps, and congratulations on 300 videos. 🙌🏻🤩
Thanks for the mention, much appreciated. 😉🙏
Dan.
Hello Dan, no problem at all mate! Take care.

Richard, you are one incredibly talented guy.
I can not tell you how good it is to see the art of building at its best. Far too many devlopments are slapped up straight lines.. The overhang for the porch is going to look great. Ah that's great that we get on building viewers! That's a great comment to receive, thank you.
Well done! Tying into an existing roof has so many variables that make it difficult, Btw congrats on 300
Thank you, Kevin. How's things mate?
@ doing well, hope all is well on your journey as well
@kevincorbin6273 glad to hear it mate. Yes, ploughing forward as always! Take care.
300th, wow, I'm glad you stuck to it. I enjoy it whenever A Builders uploads another.
The original roof could have sagged over time, and gravity, then your lay board follows it and there ain't much you can do about that. Great video gents.
Appreciate that mate, nice one.
Happy 300th chaps. Why is it that when Rich was working on the roof there was little rain, then Adam turns up and the weather goes to pot.😂 Great video by the way...
Because I'm the human equivalent of The Munster's house! Haha! Cheers mate, hope you're ok.

I watched a video which had the perfect balance of slobber and action too...and it was NOT on RUclips! Haha! Cheers mate, all the best.

Rich defo knows his stuff with roofs 👌🏽 class video
Sounds very complicated but you make it look so easy. Well done on your 300th video.
Thank you, Steve. Appreciate that.

No stamina required for cold and dry. It’s just illegal🤣🤣

...that roof felt is upside down.. did Corby do it?
Haha! Nice one, pal. Hope you're all good mate.

Enjoy!
furring or firing or furing or firring ?
F@3k knows!!!
17:50, you refer to slates, not tiles.
Ok....
"It's nice and tight there, and tight at the back as well"
"I prefer it warm and wet"
Something on your mind mate?
I really do love cutting wood up Mika 😂👍🏻
Excellent work, but I bet that house behind love having there view blocked by the side addition

@ Cheers mate. It’s only a joke as I know Rich loves the comments on stupid stuff like that and they asked for it in the video.
@@SBODevelopments ahh, sorry

Now now, no need for that!
When you fit the building paper up the valley you need to slide it underneath the existing roof building paper or water will come in.
Where is that job ? It looks way out there.
Rich, I think there's a small space over your butt to fit in another tool belt.
Don't tell him that, he'll be tool purchasing again!
