Nothing better than spending the day walking a brook and catching brookies! I know exactly what you mean by not wanting to stop! As you move from hole to hole, the hours just slide by unnoticed. Thanks for sharing!
Spent 2 weeks fishing the small streams of the Green Mountains back in July. Going back for 2 more weeks in a month. Nothing better than hiking those brookie holding streams.
We used to live in VA and then MD and we would drive out to the Shenedoah's to go hiking all the time but in all that time I never fished out there. I heard everyone talk about it but never tried it. I absolutely love the small stream fishing and finding little gems in the pools and runs. Thanks for watching, subbing and commenting!
sweet video man. I've been watching your videos for a few years I just got my guide license. I live out towards the Battenkill I'm going to try Euro nymphing, I've been trying to swing wet flies and streamers for a while without much success
Thanks! Streamers can be great but usually in higher water and I rip them more than I swing them. Euro is baller though!!! Battenkill can be very fickle but very rewarding! I've been humbled many a day on the Battenkill and then I've had days where I've left on cloud 9! Best of luck!
Excellent video! I was actually considering getting a TFO finesse 7'9" 4wt for Brookies specifically as well, any words as to if it's a good rod for the job? It's my top pick as of now but not a lot of online reviews.
Thanks and Thanks for watching! I do like the TFO. I have an old Orvis 4wt Full Flex Brook Trout 7'6" rod that is my favorite though. The Orvis is a little softer through more of the rod than this one but I do definitely like the TFO Finesse series. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I just use a Rio Gold Weight Forward Floating line that is matched to the rod size. You're not making long casts or anything for the most part so I don't think it matters a whole lot. If anything you're sneaking up behind fish and making short casts. I haven't really noticed them being line shy at all but I try to land the fly line behind my target but the fly well ahead of the target. Sometimes you are casting short enough that the fly line won't even touch the water.
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany i just got a TFO Trout Finesse 4wt 8'9"...im going for brookies on the black river in michigan, but also bought the rod to target browns on the manistee, as well as the bow river in Banff. Do you think this rod can work for that diversity? Thanks!
@@Sam-uh1lv I guess it depends on how big the browns are potentially going to be and how big that water is. But for most fish it will handle what you need. I've caught 17" browns with a much lighter weight rod (albeit in a fairly small stream).
Love this video. One after another. I also live in VT and I am outfitting a 4wt 7’6” very excited for adventures on streams like this!!! What time of the season did this take place? Thanks for sharing!!!
I think this was late May a couple years back. Anytime from May through October can be great on these small streams! Summer is a great time as long as water temps are below 65.. which on these small stream they usually are.
Thanks! I use a GoPro Hero 5 for most of this video and the underwater shots. It is rugged, waterproof and joins me on all of our adventures. The water in this stream is really the key to the great underwater video though.. this was super clear water that makes everything look good. I also bring a canon handheld camcorder on a tripod to get the other shots of me fishing and talking. I have a Nikon D5500 DSLR that I use sometimes too but only in certain situations (safer situations where I am not scrambling over rocks for several miles).
I'm sitting here in Jordan missing my VT mtns and wanted to watch some fishing.Yours came up first on the search. It's a rare day my beloved VT brooks don't hold brookies. My fav way to kill a summer day is with a spinning rod and a good stretch of brook. Were you fishing GMNF?
I hear ya! I love small stream wild trout fishing! In fact when you were commenting on this video I was up on a stream in Vermont catching lots of brook trout :) Great average size yesterday with 2 over 12" too! Got caught in some storms but it was an awesome day. Yes.. this video was in the Green Mountains. Yesterday my trip was also in the Green Mountains but a different part of them. Thanks for watching and I'll hopefully have the video from yesterday out in the next 2 weeks.
I've thought about it but I have the perfect little brook trout rod (not the one in this video). It is an Orvis Full Flex rod. It is whippy, light and a great brookie rod! I usually use that rod for brookies but I hooked into a fat 17" holdover brown with it in the Kayadeross a few years ago... what a ride!

LOL... yeah they do! With the bigger waters warming up I'll be back exploring small streams soon! Thanks for watching!

That's awesome! Down to earth kinda guy.
Great Video! Awesome Brook Trout action.
Thank you. I've got lots of small stream videos! Thanks for watching!
All I can say is subbed and I miss the brookies back in the shendoah valley

Nice tribute to Lefty Kreh!
Thanks! I actually had one of Lefty's family members reach out to me to tell me that Lefty would have loved to see me using the fly rod! ❤
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Very Cool, I did not know he passed until I saw your video! Great Fisherman and Teacher!

The Battenkill is a tough stream, my best day was 10 fish, but it was with some # 28 Griffith's Gnats and 8 x tippet.
Hey man, finding new water is one of the best parts of fishing. Nice videos man, new sub.
I completely agree with you! My biggest passion with fishing is the exploring and finding special places and special fish :) Thanks for watching!

White Dog Trail Company by the way, what fly line do you recommend the most for this type of fishing?
