Mother's Day on Waltons Mountain was one of our reunion TV movies in 1982. Mary Ellen (Judy Norton) marries Jonesy (Richard Gilliland) then has an accident on their honeymoon. Finding out she would endanger her life to have more children she is promoted to visit her own mother, Olivia (Michael Learned) in AZ.
This Walton reunion movie celebrates the relationships between moms and their children. Mary Ellen and Olivia, Cindy (Leslie Winston) and her mom as well as her new baby Charlie. Ben's (Eric Scott) conflict with Cindy's mom that has John (Ralph Waite) stepping in to try to ease the path. Corabeth and Ike (Ronnie Claire Edwards & Joe Conley) and their adopted daughter Aimee. All these and more are a part of this Behind the Scenes of The Waltons in honor of Mother's Day.

Today watched The Grandchild, I think this was the only episode where Curt is in it more than before. Curt was a " miner's doctor" he was blunt and straight forward. I liked Curt, but his leaving making MaryEllen believing she's a widow was a dirty move.
I found out yesterday that Richard had died earlier this year. I loved him as Jonesy especially the offbeat sense of humour & his devotion to Mary Ellen.
My mom died in 2010, not long before Mothers Day (she was 86 and in failing health). So Mothers Day 2010 was a sad day.
Now I just have to remember to bring flowers to my mom's grave, and raise a toast to her. My brothers and sisters do likewise. They enjoy seeing the flowers left for Mom.
To Everyone whos moms are in the Presence of the Holy Family, especially Mary: Please take time to say a Prayer for them.
Make the most of this weekend. When your moms are in Heaven, my hope is that you can reflect, and smile for the time you have had with them.

When watching the Waltons so many years ago until now, in our late sixties, we have become grandpa and grandpa. Truly time passed so quickly!

I lost my adopted Mother in 2007; my biological mother in 2012. As having no children myself. Mother's day is a hard day to get through; but I am grateful for the abundance of love that was overflowing and given to me by these two wonderful women. Have a Happy Mother's day everyone.
I can relate, I lost my mother, my step mother and step sister by the time I was 23. I have since "adopted" my mother in law :)
Yes I can understand, I lost my mum to lukemia in 2001 , dad had died of bone cancer in 1976 I remember the first Christmas without her I was with my brother's and their families, it was a normal Christmas, can't explain it. I try to go when I can go to the cemetery to visit their graves.

The writers always incorporated level upon level, story lines within story lines, and relevancy in each episode. This particular episode was filled to the brim with such examples making “The Waltons” series special and timely and memorable. What a wonderfully awesome show!

Hallmark Drama does a Walton's Marathon during most holiday weekends. This weekend they are doing a Marathon … they're showing this one.
Yesterday they played the episode where John Boy decided to move to New York and Olivia was very understanding of his dreams to live there. I teared up when John Boy said good night to everyone. I sure enjoy all your videos Judy. Thank you so much for doing this.

Thank you! Brought tears to my eyes thinking of my own mother who was so wonderful growing up. She suffers from paranoia now and doesn't want to speak to any of her children because we don't believe what she is imagining. Thank God I can cling to my wonderful childhood memories though!
This must be horrible and I’m just so sorry. My parents have both passed away but so frequently I just say “I’m so thankful for my memories and I hope to hold on to those.” I hope you’ll always hold on to yours closely too. One reason why I enjoy this series so much is because it takes me back to those Thursday nights sitting in front of the tv ( no cable then) and enjoying with my sweet mama and daddy.

I just saw Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain and was especially impressed again by the seriousness of the issues Walton's writers addressed. And, Corabeth's performance during the pivotal scene with Amy was truly sensitive and convincing. Ronnie Edwards walked a real tightrope creating Corabeth. I liked best when the audience is permitted to see the genuinely kind and truly well-meaning Corabeth. Elizabeth is so pretty and scholarly! I loved her yellow dress and the gorgeous suit you wore to visit your mom (Olivia). Thanks so much for sharing your Walton's stories! Much love to Walton's everywhere! ❤️🙏🕊️🦋📝📚✨
Ronnie Edwards really created a special character in Corabeth. I've read it's the greatest compliment that you couldn't imagine another person in a role. Pretty much everyone on the Waltons fits that category, even though some roles were played by others in The Homecoming. These roles were defined by the great cast in the series.

I love this Mothers Day episode.I was happy when she met Josey.Maryellen reception was beutiful.I felt bad for Maryellen had the bad accident.
I only discovered the Walton movies (post series) a few short years ago. I was so happy to catch up with the family again. It's just such a warm and wonderful family, although I did notice the discrepancies with the children and that was definitely bothersome. Overall it was just great to see them growing up and living adult lives.

In one of the reunion movies when Mary Ellen is speaking with her daughter in their kitchen about Thanksgiving she explains that John Curtis couldn’t get leave implying that he is in the military.

I am very sorry for your loss. I am sure there will be many other firsts this year. I will pray for you. A friend once told me, "It gets a little easier every day, but it never completely goes away." I don't think it was meant to rhyme, but it did.

I made contact with my biological mother several years ago. At the time we lived about 1K miles apart. I reunited with her a couple of years ago in Wisconsin where she lived along with a sister and brother I never met. Last summer, she and my sister made a trip to Texas where I and the brother I grew up with lived. Just over a week ago, I relocated to Wisconsin and will spend Mother's Day with her for the first time since I was five. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

Thanks for your insight into this most special Waltons TV movie! I’m glad you mentioned the story continuity issues. While it irked me a bit, the artistic license just didn’t seem that relevant given we were lucky enough to have new Waltons stories! It’s great that Michael Learned took part. While I missed her when she left the series, I liked Nurse. It was a well done show that should have run longer. Happy Mother’s Day!

When you said the show ran from 1972 to 1981, so it ended 40 years ago! 2 things, 1 is the show still holds up well today and 2nd is you look amazing!

Hey Judy. I grew up watching The Waltons. I think one reason I liked your show so much was that my life growing up had a lot in common with The Walton. Mom and Dad along with us 5 kids grew up on a mountain in Southwestern Va. We called it Fuller Mountain. My dad was a coalminer. We were poor. I wore hand me down clothing. Never wore shoes in the summer. We lived a couple miles off to ourselves. We farmed and raised all kinds of animals. We grew our food and canned it for the winter. Looking back to me is like trying to remember an episode of the waltons. I didn't grow up during the great depression. I grew up from the mid 60s to mid 80s. Aside from schooling, life wasn't all that much different. Anyway I'm a huge fan. I have a bucket list. And on that list is making a trip to schuyler, va. I haven't done a lot of research on the town. I hear they now have a B&B in a replica of the tv version of the Walton's home. I doubt I could afford to stay there but still a weekend trip would be about all I can handle with my health problems. Ive always said that when i die I hope the other side is like The Waltons, Mayberry, or Little House on the Prairie. I know they are fictional places that only exist in my mind. But to me it really exist. I know that Mt Airy has Mauberry days. Does Schuyler have an annual Waltons days or anything like that? I just wanted to see how you felt about taking a day or weekend trip. Maybe one day I will get to meet you and get your autograph. I love your videos on RUclips. BTW my favorite episode was the one where the house caches fire. I'm gonna head on to bed and say something I never thought I would ever say.... "Goodnight Mary Ellen!"

In honor of the upcoming Mother's Day, I've shared your video with my mother who is 93 & who loved The Walton's. It was her all-time favorite show. She could relate to it well having grown up with in the Depression. I loved this episode myself because it focused on Mary Ellen & Jonesy & explored their relationship.

Happy Mother's Day to you, Judy! I loved "The Waltons - Mother's Day" TV special, even though I only saw it recently. My favorite scene is toward the end, when Mary Ellen walks out of a car with a stylish hat and tailored dress. She looks like Jacqueline Kennedy, with the grace of a first-class woman. It's quite a contrast from the tomboyish, sassy 13-year-old that we first saw in Season 1. Of all the characters, I think Mary Ellen shows the most metamorphosis, which to me marks a truly substantive story.
Various circumstances kept me from being a mom. But I'm in the process of adopting, so next year, I'll hopefully be a mom on Mother's Day.

This mothers day is gonna be very difficult since my mom passed away just a couple months ago, mothers are so special in so many ways ,which there is not enough space here to right about,
Mothers too me are the back bone ,the glue that holds the fabric of the family together, the stress that mothers have to live with is proof just how amazing mothers really are, & I miss my mother every second of every day, so again thanks judy & Happy mother's day ❤

My grandmother (born in 1902) had severe asthma. Thus, in the 40's she and my grandfather moved from Detroit MI to Tucson AZ due to the hot, dry climate. This was a common practice (to recommend people to relocate to hot dry climates)

I remember this reunion. I remember Mary-Ellen being in an accident. Because of the accent and the operation needed. The result was Mary Ellen not being able to have children, and she being upset about that. How ironic It reminded me of the episode when Mary Ellen discovered that Curt was still alive after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Because of the injuries that he experienced it made him unable to bear children. Mary Ellen reminded him of other ways to express love. It would have been good Curt could have been on the reunion episode to remind Mary Ellen of the advice she gave to him.

As a mum to 7 & grandmother to 5 (I'm not 50 for a few weeks yet) this is probably the film I relate to most. I loved it as a teen when it was shown here in England. I hope despite the emotional storylines there was fun between takes. Judy you were a very lucky woman to have worked with Richard and am very sorry to read of his passing. Just watched the episode called the venture, where waltons would half to sell their house unless they came up with the money, and new saw mill was trying to be built so a huge order couild go out, but ralph waite came down with phenomiia and hospitalized, so it showed how times were tough and the family members came together to try to save the house,. it all worked out

Funny that this video focuses on mothers. Yesterday, Vision TV had the episode when Mary Ellen delivers John Curtis. Love this episode. You did a great job at making it look so real with no dramatics.

Eric Scott's best scene ever was the mourning scene for his dead child in the next (?) tv movie. His heart wrenching break down killed me.

My oldest sister who was a stand in mother to me and was suffering terminal cancer used to sit and watch The Waltons box set I bought her and watching your tv family and you really brought her comfort.and took her back to happier days. I am glad both Michael Learned and Ralph Waite returned for the reunions. I am sure big money was required to lure both of them back, they are working actors after all.
