Rhys Millen Gears up for the 2011 Pikes Peak Hill Climb

Rhys Millen returns to the 89th Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to complete the job he set out last year: shattering the record in the "Unlimited" class. Although the current record still stands at 10:01.408, Rhys hopes that modifications and upgrades to the Red Bull-sponsored Hyundai Genesis RMR PM580, along with new tarmac portions of the course, will allow him to to claim victory at this year's race and finally break the 10-minute barrier.
While Rhys Millen attempts to break the overall course record, his father will compete in the Time Attack 2WD class in an updated version of the Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe that Rhys set a class record in two years ago. With five overall race wins and eight class wins under his belt, Rod Millen is considered Pikes Peak royalty by many. With a history of successes at that race, both competitors hope to break records in their respective classes and further cement the Millen family name in the lore and history of Pikes Peak.

I know its not set up for such a thing, but just for fun, I would be really interested to know what this car would run at a track like ButtonWillow cw13...

In honor of Rod Millen coming back to Pikes Peak, they should rip up the asphalt and make the whole course dirt again. Screw the Sierra Club.
Seriously though, Rhys is a great guy, and I hope he is the one to break the 10 minute barrier in what has to be the coolest looking unlimited car to run the peak. I'm coordinating plans with my dad right now to get ready for next Wednesday's practice.
@ivojiggy Rod millens record held for many years on dirt and did a 10:04:06 , and this year he was onli 30 sec dwn from monsta in a production class drift car
@fueldragster I'm actually the only person that caught Millen's spin on camera. He spun at The Sump. Yes, I know these things. I can also tell you that the Hyundai team set the car up for mostly asphalt as opposed to dirt, which is why he spun and missed a few gears.
I've been going Pikes Peak for years, and I can say with certainty that Tajima is better than Millen. Tajima reached the summit last year with a flat rear tire. You didn't hear about it because he was too busy winning.

I love Rhys Millen, he really is an amazing driver, but come on. Nobuhiro Tajima was over a minute faster than Millen last year. If the 10 minute barrier is going to be broken by Millen, then Tajima will just break the 9 minute barrier a few minutes later.

Monster reset the record to under 10 mins, does Rhys just completely ignore the fact that Monster is faster when he says the tacoma is the fastest car up pikes peak? And how is hyundai ok with their car having a toyota transmission in it for the only event it is built for?

I still think this car needs more pavement on the mtn that currently exists to beat the Suzuki package.
And don't forget race day conditions dictate records. Not just what you brought to the event.

Suzuki's cars are still cooler, not sure why but, if they brought back the ESCUDO from 1998 that would be epic, they would have to change the setup some but keep the 1,000 hp and the 800 kilogram weight

I feel like Hyundai is not the right sponsor for him.
most race cars with sequentially shifted style of transmissions arent made by the "manufacturers".. a lot of times they are made by companies like xtrac, who makes transmissions and differentials for cars from everything like F1 to rally cars to le mans to GT cars... most likely the only part of the old toyota that was actually toyota, was most likely the engine block.... being a purpose built race car, most of it was fabricated in house and just resembled a tacoma
