This is dangerous and exciting to begin with,..... but a Reliant Robin series? My simple American mind is blown. Love it!
Reliant racing started many years ago at Mildenhall as one of the first true original formulas run by RDC but given the unusual nature of the cars and the way these races ran, many promotions took it up. Promotasport raced the formula at Arena Essex during the Firecracker one year as a replacement for one of the stock car formulas they used and it was so popular, well why not?

A lot of these cars are painted better than some of the late models around here.

used to banger race in the 90s the old Ford granada was the king of the track specialy the V6
This is basically what NASCAR was back in the 1940s and 1950s, and it was awesome.
I love the brash, cheesy, graffiti-style graphics on these cars too. I wish we had this kind of stuff in the US (unless it exists and I just don't know the name for it), unfortunately it seems like this is really just a UK/Netherlands thing.

People should be able to do what they wish but destroying some of the most crafted cars that no one could by new should at least think that there destroying some very stunning cars and also wasting good parts, just saddens me.
I don't know where you're from, but from what I understand once the licensing group in the UK deems them unfit for the road, they have no value. So it's either the crusher, or this THEN the crusher. Although over here in the US we would take some of those cars and use them for some kind of project.

As a day job a rebuild older cars, and Mot cars I'm much aware tat most car races are of very good condition, let's take the mk3 Scorpio, they are some of the most rare cars and I have had the privilege of working and owning them and seams to be hat when one is sold from a loving owner there fate is allredy set for racing sim still have meny months MOT on them, talking from vast experance over 80% are still very practical cars still fit for the uk roads, this tell me that your comment dose not ring true,

Yeh, we don't fuck about :-D Still, the giant Cadillac won the demo in the end against all our cars, probably because there's about 4 tons of metal to smash into another car, but won it nevertheless... lol
I remember seeing "Demolition Derby USA" or something on the TV listings in the early days of digital TV (1000 channels but no shows to fill them). I was pumped to see old Mustangs and Chargers anniahlating each other... only they never seemed to get out of first gear.

Just waiting for you! And though Arena Essex, the circuit in this video, is no more (it closed at the end of 2018), there are plenty of circuits in the UK and elsewhere that still go at it. If you know where to look, there's a meeting every weekend more or less!

Always interesting to see what cars make it to these races. Never once thought I'd see a Rolls Royce but I guess banger racing is where cars go to go out in a blaze of fender ripping, metal crunching, fast paced glory.
Hardly the first time that rollers raced at Arena. There was one year when the meeting opened with and all Rolls race! But then that was the point of the Firecracker - we had some pretty unusual and pretty ancient cars destroyed for our audience's pleasure over the years. And even though Arena Essex is no longer with us, you can find similar meetings around the banger racing world to this day! - CJ PRI

Allan Trickett made a habit over a number of years of racing a golden car, often either a Yank Tank or a Limo and was always good to watch though more often than not he took his car home in a golden ball!

@Ralph Goober I went to a stock car race here in the states, and a new crew came into the pits with an early 60's T-Bird two door. The announcer kept making them offers to by it from them before they raced it. In it's first heat race it got piled up. I thought the announcer was going to cry. Some old stock cars looked very fine when they first hit the track, and some people were ticked. But these cars were not very pretty before the racing crew fixed them up. They would of never been worth much on the road any more because they were too far gone. So the looks can be deceiving.

Traveling around and going to different tracks with different classes of race cars has always been a wonderful experience for me.

Old Griz Most of the damage is superficial and can be buffed out with a hammer. Also the prizes for winning are negligible so most drivers just do it for fun and therefore don't mind binning it into the back of another car to entertain the crowd
