Reliant racing started many years ago at Mildenhall as one of the first true original formulas run by RDC but given the unusual nature of the cars and the way these races ran, many promotions took it up. Promotasport raced the formula at Arena Essex during the Firecracker one year as a replacement for one of the stock car formulas they used and it was so popular, well why not?
I was going to say the same thing. They almost look to good to total them. I am sure that they warn out and were like a trophy wife,no one said it was first place .
This is basically what NASCAR was back in the 1940s and 1950s, and it was awesome. I love the brash, cheesy, graffiti-style graphics on these cars too. I wish we had this kind of stuff in the US (unless it exists and I just don't know the name for it), unfortunately it seems like this is really just a UK/Netherlands thing.
Always interesting to see what cars make it to these races. Never once thought I'd see a Rolls Royce but I guess banger racing is where cars go to go out in a blaze of fender ripping, metal crunching, fast paced glory.

Allan Trickett made a habit over a number of years of racing a golden car, often either a Yank Tank or a Limo and was always good to watch though more often than not he took his car home in a golden ball!

I nearly cried when I saw the MK II Then I saw the price of the comemorative firecracker ceramic mug in the souvenir shop.... I reckon the mug'll be worth more than a MKII in 50 years Xx

Just waiting for you! And though Arena Essex, the circuit in this video, is no more (it closed at the end of 2018), there are plenty of circuits in the UK and elsewhere that still go at it. If you know where to look, there's a meeting every weekend more or less!

Except that's not a Demo Derby as we know it. That's an actual race. Whoever completes a certain number of laps first, OR last car running. It's more like our Enduro Racing, but with a bad attitude.😈🏁🃏
The UK's like this too, well the south is. You can have entire years with no snow and as soon as it does there's cars stuffed through fences everywhere.

Why in banger races are there more antique cars in them then in derbys like I look at some pictures and seen 1920s - 30s cars and rolls royces and stuff
