Finally, after all these years, I've got my panels together and ready to go. I'm so glad I read through the comments though because I was going to add a pieced border to the outside once all the channels had been sewn, but you convinced me that the pieced border, not chenilled, may not be strong enough, or even too thin, for the weight of the chenilling. Thanks for keeping all you videos available. I refer back to them often.
Laura thank you for explaining Chenille quilting. I've never heard of it before, I'm new to quilting. Your tutorials are so easy to watch & you explain things so easily & very informative.
I have seen these quilts and have admired them. Your demonstration of how it is done makes it seem understandable and manageable. Thank you so much. It is a beautiful quilt. I will try the unmatched layers of different colour fabric for my soon to be born great niece.
Another great video! I have made "several" of these chenille baby blankets over the years and given as gifts. They are fun and faster than piecing. People are always amazed with this technique. Thanks!
Your tutorials are some of the best on RUclips or any other paid sites. Whenever I have a challenge from our Quilt guild, I check with your site first. This coming month we are doing a chenille technique. I feel like a junior level after watching your course. Thank you for all you do.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! Chenille is so expensive so I can't wait to try this. This is the only tutorial I've seen that clarified that the tool prevents you from cutting the bottom layer--thank you so much!!
Made an autumn panel quilt from your tutorial and everything ran smoothly. I shared it with my online quilting club and the response was well received. Thank you for your well explained and super ideas that you share 😊
I’ve never scene nor heard of this technique. The whole time I’m watching, I’m thinking what is she doing??😂😂😂 it came out beautiful… thanks for sharing ❤
I made a cushion like this year's ago from some really expensive fabric taken for free out of a sample book at my local fabric/ curtain making shop. It was only small but I was so proud of it. I hadn't realised it was chenille though. I wish I had a cutter like yours then . I'm going to treat myself ASAP .
Thank you so much, I have been collecting a particular panel to do this, I only need one more now and your fantastic tutorial has shown me just how to put it all together in a way that I am really looking forward to having a go at. Please keep up the tutorials, I am too shy for a quilt group and now I can learn so much from you. Thanks again, Jules
I love all of your tips and tricks and projects and have learned so much from you, you're a great teacher. You again hit it out of the park with this snowman panel, so so so cute! Thanks for sharing Laura!
That is so awesome!!! I know I bought a chenille cutter a few years back I've just moved to a new home and just starting to get all of my sewing things unpacked I've got to definitely look for that very soon ! Thank you for the wonderful video 💖
Oh my gosh I just love this. I don't know how many times I've watched this but hey hopefully I'll get it right. Thank you again Laura your tutorials are so awesome ❤ now on to making those Christmas gifts. 🎄🎁
You are really a great video teacher, and I love doing your projects, can hardly wait to start next years Xmas projects, my family and friends, think you are my best friend, because they love getting, gifts I learned from you. I'm putting a chenille cutter on my stocking list.
Wow, what a great video for panels, it makes me want to get my cutter out of the package that I have had for a very long time, I am going to give this a try. I guess I will now look at panels!!!
This is so cool! I was looking for something to make for two granddaughters with January birthdays! This is the thing! I've begun gathering supplies already and my chenille cutter is ordered. Can't wait to see how the Fusi-Boo works, also.
A couple of things. You showed that you did not stitch the second arm of the 'x' to begin with but then when doing the turn at the centre it had actually been stitched. Stitching later, at the outside edge, you are closing the channel instead of breaking the thread before stitching the next channel. The only way to open the channel when stitching across the ends with the chennille cutter is to trim off some of the quilt - which you did. When you do that it leaves you with nothing to grip when you cut your channels. You've got that 2" excess at the edges. It would be an easier process to leave that untrimmed till after the channel is cut.
Great tutorial. Thanks. I had a hard time finding it because I couldn't remember what the technique was called. LOL I have a particular panel in mind for this. I have too panel of the same panel and figured this would be a good way to get them used up.
Thank you for this video. It is adorable and you sure made it look easy. It is not easy and it is not quick for me but you are quite good at it, I am still learning.
Just gorgeous I just love love love your tutorials.. :) thank you, you are so easy to follow and I love your calm very clear instructions.. Well done :)
Thanks Laura. While we have mild winters here on the east coast, my family live in Perth, where they get winter straight from the Antarctic! Thanks for the advice. Cheers...
Very fun, I want to do this method but my panel is only 23.5” wide. I feel it’s way too small as a baby quilt. I was wondering if I could add borders to chenille also
That is a fabulous idea. I love it. I've done some chenille before, but you make it look so easy. I will be trying this as I have lots of panels. Did you say you could use 4 different panels as well? Wow! Thanks Laura
At first I thought she sure did a lot of knitting.Plus it looks real nice. But this is even faster and also very nice. I wonder how it will look on peacock panels? Have a nice week.
Awesome! I always wondered how to use a chenille cutter. And you could easily use a batting that is lighter or heavier depending where you live. You hit it out of the park on this video, thank you.
Just learned to sew last week to help my mom make mask because of covid when we were in the fabric store I saw a bunch of quilts against the wall one was a baby quilt with a little sheep on it the whole thing was chenille like this it was so breathtaking I never really thought much about quilts until today iv always just painted or did fused glass but this whole thing has gotten me curious would chenille be to hard a place to start I just learned to sew but really thinking of getting into this do you know a good place to start this stuff is just so cool
I have never ever heard of this!? WOW, Im in shock...I like tidy neat things, and never thought I'd like it but the end result is FABULOUS so Ive saved it
I have just 2 matching panels (Red Cardinal in orchard) which is rather loud and not pretty. If I could chenille it would soften up and be pretty. But I don’t want to buy 1 or 2 more panels because that would increase the cost more than I’m willing to invest. Do you know if only 2 panels will work? Or perhaps try and fabric paint or piece a 3rd panel to similar colors, keeping it in the middle? Then one real panel is at bottom (not cut) and the others is at top. I can’t experiment with the panels, if it doesn’t work I will have wasted $25. Otherwise I’m not sure what to do with the panels. A lap quilt maybe but again the red cardinal is huge and bold. Any recommendations would be so appreciated. Your tutorials are always so precise without being long and tedious. Thank you!!!
From my experience I have found just two layers do not work well. You do not see the picture and the effect is not the same. However there's nothing saying you cannot try something different and see how it turns out. For example have the top and bottom layer the panels and put two layers of a solid color in between. Use the main background fabric as those two layers. I think perhaps it would be a softer look. It might be worth the try lol. You could be starting a whole new trend.
On my old Singer sewing machine I usually use a no. 2 stitch length for piecing my quilt tops... do you recommend using a longer no. 3 stitch to put all these layers together with a walking foot?
Looks like fun !!!! I'll be looking for some cute panels now :) I might even add that cutter to my sewing basket. Thank you for another video and feeding my addiction ! LOL
Great video Laure, thank you. Please forgive me if you have already answered this question but I haven't seen it asked. I love the snowman and I bought the panels, however they are not as wide as I hoped. Is there a way to add a border to these panels? I'm not sure how I can make them larger all the way around. And would I add borders before I stare sewing the rows or at the end. Thank you so much .
Good question:) Yes you could add borders. You would need to treat each panel the same adding each border on each piece. Only the top piece would be a little different, somehow you would need to start the holes to slip in the cutter. Try this...after the border is on, cut a little snip on each edge (for the cutter to fit in)then do all the stitching. I hope this makes helps
+SewVeryEasy ok, I think I'll try on a small sample first. I'll be happy to let you know how it all works out. Thank you for such a quick response. Cross your fingers for me. 🤔
How many hours . . . . . might it take to make this type of panel quilt? I LOVE it . . . but am on a tight time schedule. THANKS for your help, Laura! 💝
Very well explained and demonstrated. Thank you. Gotta say, though, this is an expensive project due to having to purchase 4 identical panels for 1 project.
This is so great. I wondered what would happen if you only had one panel. Could this still work. I ask because I have a huge Santa and Missus Claus pattern that would work so great for this. Thank you in advance for your advice.
You would not see the picture with only one panel. You need at least the bottom layer and the top layer so the picture will show through all the layers. Look at the close up at the very end and you can see the top and the bottom layers making up the whole picture. Thanks for asking:)
Finally, after all these years, I've got my panels together and ready to go. Thank you for this tutorial, have bought an item to try this, but was never told that the sewing needed to be on the diagonal. Very helpful!
Made an autumn panel quilt from your tutorial and everything ran smoothly. I shared it with my online quilting club and the response was well received. Thank you for your well explained and super ideas that you share 😊
Thank you so much for the many details. This is the first video where the binding was done before the cutting.
I’ve never scene nor heard of this technique. The whole time I’m watching, I’m thinking what is she doing??😂😂😂 it came out beautiful… thanks for sharing ❤

This was such a great tutorial and I had never seen this technique before. Thank you for sharing. You are a wonderful instructor.
thank you and thank you for watching :)
Thank you! This is a great technique. I have seen them but not know how to do them. Now I do! Your videos are wonderful and you give all the steps.

That is so awesome!!! I know I bought a chenille cutter a few years back I've just moved to a new home and just starting to get all of my sewing things unpacked I've got to definitely look for that very soon ! Thank you for the wonderful video 💖
I know about this for years and never tried it. That's my chance. Thank you for the perfect explanation 👍🏻👏🏻🤩
Quick tip: leave the bottom panel 1inch bigger then the top three layers to be easily visible and not to be cut by accident!
I do that too!
I love this..a word of advice to anyone making this. Be sure to watch until the end! I didn't and I paid the price of ripping. But, I still love it.
Oh my gosh! Thank you for this video. I always thought that you had to purchase chenille fabric to make a chenille project. I can’t wait to try this.
Thats something outstanding. Never heard of anything like that before. Its so cute like u r. I realy like ur personality n especially ur smile.
Oh my gosh I just love this. I don't know how many times I've watched this but hey hopefully I'll get it right. Thank you again Laura your tutorials are so awesome ❤ now on to making those Christmas gifts. 🎄🎁

As always, Laura, wonderful tutorial! Thank you for giving me a great idea for my grandson's quilt. Cheers from Aus...
you can also use flannel panels ! and hello from Canada
Thanks Laura. While we have mild winters here on the east coast, my family live in Perth, where they get winter straight from the Antarctic! Thanks for the advice. Cheers...
anytime:)
great tutorial. Do we need to wash the panels before starting?
Wow! You always have the neatest tutorials! Love this idea! Excited to try this for a quilt for our new grand baby. Can one use flannels for this?
Yes flannel will make it even softer.
Very fun, I want to do this method but my panel is only 23.5” wide. I feel it’s way too small as a baby quilt. I was wondering if I could add borders to chenille also

Thanks and you must use the same panels or you will not see the picture!
Beautifully done my friend. TFS. Stay connected 😊
Love this technique. I have never seen anything like this. I am going to have to try this. TFS.
I never though of using panels for this! Have done a pillow but I really like this quilt idea. So many ideas, so little time LOL
lol Time! I know what you mean, thanks
SewVeryEasy has
This is so neat and fun! Will definitely have to try it for my next project after I finish my baby quilt
At first I thought she sure did a lot of knitting.Plus it looks real nice. But this is even faster and also very nice. I wonder how it will look on peacock panels? Have a nice week.
Oh that would be nice, I hope you make one and show me:)
Awesome! I always wondered how to use a chenille cutter. And you could easily use a batting that is lighter or heavier depending where you live. You hit it out of the park on this video, thank you.
I ordered 2 sets of 4 panels, Olaf from frozen, and a beautiful Christmas tree.
You can do this without batting too:)
sound nice be sure to post your pictures on my Facebook! I would love to see them:)
SewVeryEasy good to know.
glad I could help:)
I love this done on a panel. Got to see if I can more of some of the panels I have. Awesome!
have fun!
Omg ...counting stitches..why haven't I ever thought of it ..so simple 😜
silly but true...now you will count stitches for other things too!
So easy - thank you !

Enjoyed the chenille quilt so much.

Yours has been the best , thankyou laura
love this idea. Thanks for your tutorial. I purchased this panel to make my quilt.
Have fun:)
Super!!!,you are amazing. Thank you for all the great tutorials. 😊
thank you and thank you for watching :)
On my old Singer sewing machine I usually use a no. 2 stitch length for piecing my quilt tops... do you recommend using a longer no. 3 stitch to put all these layers together with a walking foot?
You could, please give it a test first, but that sounds about right to me:)
This would be fun to do with different solid fabrics on the back of a pieced quilt. Thanks for the inspiring video.
good idea, if you don't mind I just might have to give that a try!
I love your tutorials Laura! thank you for sharing!!! you are awesome!!
IS there a written tutorial? Thanks so much for sharing, I was feeling unmotivated..Now I am excited again with a new project!
nothing written, just a follow along video
This is great. What type of backing did you use? Could you use fleece or minky?
I would keep it to something not as thick as you already have a lot of layers. If you want something heavier use a heavy flannel. Hope this helps
That looks like sew much fun! What a great tutorial. Thanks.
It is really fun! thanks
I have a Dumbo panel all quilted and bound. Start cutting tomorrow. Wish me luck 😬✂️
Are you done yet!
SewVeryEasy YES! It turned out really cute. I didn't buy a chenille cutter, but if I make anther one, I'll buy the chenille cutter. Thank you!
yes it will make it is easyier and faster, but I'm glad to hear you got it done. Can you post a picture on my Facebook? I loved to see it:)
Looks like fun !!!! I'll be looking for some cute panels now :) I might even add that cutter to my sewing basket. Thank you for another video and feeding my addiction ! LOL
anything to help feed the addiction:):):)
Oh this is a new one on me, thanks very much I like your chenille quilt very much.
Just found this tutorial and I am excited to try it. Thank You so Much !
I had never thought to use panels before - great idea!
sew much fun! thanks
Brilliant. I love it. Now I want to dash to store to find a cute panel. Thank you
Don't forget you will need more than one. Keep your eye out for a sale...I love sales
This soooo cool. Possibilities are endless! Beautiful! Thank you for such a great tutorial :-).
thanks and it was a lot of fun to make:)
great idea. You always make me want to do your projects.
Glad to hear! thanks:)
How many hours . . . . . might it take to make this type of panel quilt? I LOVE it . . . but am on a tight time schedule. THANKS for your help, Laura! 💝
It took me less time than a regular quilt, as there was no piecing and no batting. :)
Love this quilt, it's beautiful
thank you:)
Oh, I love it! Thank you for the great tutorial. Just a question. With that many layers, would you still need batting?
it is up to you, I just have a layer of flannel inside
Very well explained and demonstrated. Thank you. Gotta say, though, this is an expensive project due to having to purchase 4 identical panels for 1 project.
Luv your tutorials. Can I use one printed panel and have multi colored solid colored fabric?
you will not see the picture as clearly. It really does work best with the same panel
How awesome and easy am new at quilting... thanks for sharing
6:20 that is a great idea, on how many stitches to go down and do a new row.
One question is why so many layers of the same material? thank you
when the fabric is cut you can still see what the picture was:)
SewVeryEasy so can I use 2 layers? I've never heard of chenille before that's why I am asking. Super cool technique
Thank you so much for your response.
your welcome
Which 4 different fabrics would that be Laura? BYW, I truly enjoy your tutorial. Thank you.
all the fabric are the same, 4 exact panels
Will it work if I add borders to the panels and only us 3 panels?
it is a lot harder to do with border, because you will end up cutting the seams open
Kathleen did you have any sucess adding borders? I too, want borders
This is gorgeous! Great idea!! Thanks for sharing.
thanks:)
4 different fabrics sounds fun!
A great video! Thanks! Love the quilting pattern on yours!
thanks:)
