Video shows how a high-speed police shootout played out last month. It started with an armed robbery in Santa Fe and ended more than an hour away in Torrance County. Video shows officers having to return fire through their own windshields as the suspects shoot at them going 100 mph.
The incident started at a Starbucks drive-thru in Santa Fe on November 26 on St. Francis Drive when a female driver placed an order then pulled a gun, demanded money. After she receives the cash, she speeds off. Santa Fe County deputies catch up with the vehicle and the chase begins.

Uhhh, how did this end???
I went on a ride along with CHP once and we got in a pursuit of a motorcycle. The officer was doing 110mph on a dangerous road in our county. One of craziest things I’ve experienced. All of the sudden I heard “bird 1 in bound.” And saw a chopper dive in. The chopper was doing crazy maneuvers and facing us at times when going down the highway. It legit felt like a scene out of a movie.
What a fantastic experience!
Nice story. Did you swallow ?

I like how the secondary officer left his patrol car in drive during the stop to have some moving cover.
Idk if that was done on purpose or by accident but it worked out great
Cars aren't cover. Bullets fly through them like paper they're more so concealment
@xNAJAFx that is one portion of the entire car.
Yeah that looked smooth, intended or not.
@@jblack8502 Well considering that they were in a wide open field with nothing else to use as cover, the vehicle is the only option. If I'm gonna get hit by a bullet I'd rather it be from a bullet that lost a lot of energy going through the vehicle than to be hit from a bullet with its full kinetic energy.
Officer did great. 120 mph and stayed focused on details & radioing updates, taking repeated gunshots & being mindful of other citizens in his line of return fire. Very well done. I hope the officer got recognized for this excellent job
He shoot across the other lane of traffic. What if he killed your family member this way?
@@PuerRidcully what if we just stopped chasing criminals & this becomes a daily thing? If society stops going after criminals... it'll take weeks before it's unstoppable. @@woody4u247 they can chase criminals. Just don't shoot at civilians. It ain't that complicated.
@@PuerRidcully if you listened to the audio and of his radio traffic.. he did pause when there was other vehicles around. This camera view doesn't show the vantage point the officer saw.. but he was aware of other civilians & waited until clear. The only time he fired with others near, was the other officer towards the end.. and if you notice, he has his passenger window down & can hear when the other officer is firing & he stays back. They did excellent.
@@woody4u247 Don't listen to audio. Watch the video. At one point they're shooting diagonally, across the other lane, with a lot of traffic there.
Female passenger got killed, the driver survived his gunshot wounds.
New Mexico State Police on Monday identified 26-year-old Jacob Alejandro Montoya Jr. of Bernalillo as the man shot by law enforcement Friday in Torrance County after he was accused of robbing a Starbucks in Santa Fe and later leading officers on a high-speed pursuit for about 50 miles along U.S. 285.
While Montoya survived his gunshot wounds and is recovering in an Albuquerque hospital, a woman riding in the black Kia with him, who was accused of firing on officers, was killed in the shooting, state police have said.
Lt. Mark Soriano, a spokesman for the agency, said the woman's identity has not yet been released by the state Office of the Medical Investigator.
Montoya has not been charged, though Soriano and Santa Fe police Lt. David Webb both said criminal charges will be filed after his release from the hospital.
The incident - which involved Santa Fe police, the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office, the Torrance County Sheriff's Office and state police - marks the fourth shooting this year by Santa Fe County deputies; three have resulted in fatalities. There have been two other law enforcement shootings in the Santa Fe area in 2021.
Friday's incident began in the morning at a Starbucks on South St. Francis Drive, where Santa Fe police said Montoya and the woman held up baristas at gunpoint in a drive-thru window and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
After Santa Fe police issued an alert for the vehicle - a black Kia with no license plate - Santa Fe County deputies discovered the car on Richards Avenue. They pursued the pair more than 50 miles on U.S. 285 before state police and Torrance County sheriff's deputies joined the chase near Clines Corners, according to a state police news release.
The woman in the Kia began firing shots at law enforcement vehicles, the release said, and officers from all three agencies returned fire. Montoya crashed the car into a tree about two miles south of Clines Corners.
Negotiators were able to convince him to get out of the car through the driver's side window, Soriano said, and he was taken into custody and flown to a hospital in Albuquerque with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Montoya has a criminal history dating back to 2019, when he was convicted of receiving or transferring stolen vehicles and possession of a controlled substance, court records show.
He has been arrested several times this year in Bernalillo and Sierra counties, and faces charges of aggravated fleeing from law enforcement, possession of a firearm by a felon and shooting from a motor vehicle. He has two active bench warrants stemming from those cases, court records show.
A model citizen.
Thank you for posting this information. The video ended so abruptly that I was left wondering what happened and what this was all about. I heard armed robbery, but that isn't exactly specific.
Thanks for the info . Would be nice if the poster of video provided that important information.
It should be a law that we do not treat criminals for injuries
Thank you for the info!
This officer pulled off being a “ball turret gunner on a B-17” quite well 😂
Even better because ball turret gunners didn't also have to fly the plane.
6:55 genius to let his cruiser roll to advance in cover, even if it was an accident, it ended up being an amazing impromtu tactic
Not a good tactic, distance is their advantage in this situation with rifles, piss poor felony stop.

Fucking kudos to that officer for considering what was behind the target before opening fire, even in that high stress situation.
WTF are you talking about. He endangered numerous motorists firing wildly. He needs retrained.
@@MrTangent ??? he only shot when nobody was around
It was impressive to see the officer driving at high speed and handling his weapon. I can't imagine what was going through his head during this. He's being shot at and still presses forward
"This is fun. I hope I don't get shot"
That moving cover at the end was top tier
That cop at the end with mobile cover 👌 freaking amazing
Wow...that seemed insanely reckless most of the time.
Literally man... this how civilians get killed its ridiculous i bet that guy trying to out run cops would not be shooting at anybody if he had sense he got away ya know. I dnt c why they cant just pick em up later instead have a shootout around civilians. My opinion.
It definitely was insane. There were several instances where the crossfire could have jeopardized not only the other unit chasing, but innocent travelers. Plus they aren’t supposed to drive with a fucking knee and shoot at 120. Just dumb shit, but hey they got their criminal and will get medals likely.
@@purp0127 so what if he stops at the next starbucks and shoots everyone inside it ? then it would be why didn't the police stop him the first time ??
@@ashleyrussell4436 mans was in the desert bruh
@F.B.I You must be blind. He took shots when the other cruiser was about 40ft in front of him, and when the lanes seperated into a 4 lane Hwy the took shots while the car was in the median and oncoming traffic was on the other side. It’s also definitely not protocol to shoot through the windshield, or while doing 120, or while driving with your knee. This is how people like Roy Ordóñez got killed by idiots chasing robbers while he was delivering packages in a UPS truck
WOW! I was very impressed with the skill of this (these) officers. And that little thing at the end when he got out of his car and left it in gear, using it as cover as he moved forward with it, that was very interesting.
Man props to that officer! Kept his cool, returned fire, gave great account of the full situation and still managed to keep up, keep everyone informed and take these people down for their absolute lack of regard to anyone! I salute you!

This cop is a total badass.
The cop hit the ground more than once on camera. I'm confident he was much more of a danger to the public than the criminal.
@@themanhimself3 well, driving and shooting at the same time while also getting shotted at is hard, the criminal opened fire through back of his car, its can cause civilian casualties if the cop just let it go, and the cop skilled enough to kill the gunman and injured the driver to end the chase, he also aware enough about the situation around him and watching for civilian, clear road shot, not clear not shot.
@@themanhimself3 incorrect
@@Gwazi 5:40 the cop shoots into oncoming traffic
@@proveryourpoint_8554 the camera is on the right of the gun. The gun is less angled toward oncoming traffic than you think. The officer stopped shooting when other cars got into line of sight. And even if he was shooting into oncoming traffic, he hit no one else. Cop was certainly not more of a danger to the public than the criminal who was driving at a high speed on the wrong side of the road, committed armed robbery, and shot with civilian vehicles around. He was way more of a danger, and if you disagree you are just upset that a criminal was killed

In this world, Modern police cars need a remote controlled .50 BMG "Ma Deuce".
That officer was not shooting recklessly. He waits to shoot when the road is clear. The part where his partner is ahead of him was the only big no no. Would rather have the officer up front shooting. Hopefully he didn’t get any glass in his eye.

To everyone who says the US isn't completely Nuts
That officer did a shitty job in that chase... randomly shooting your AR through your windshield , while doing a 110mph Is not a winning strategy. Also, letting loose w the AR while another unit is in your line of Fire is bad...I could go on and on... but I won’t.
WoW
So badass when cops shooting out their driver window while driving
he also stuck out the barrel out of the window hole, which actually makes it more accurate, as he shoots the window more and more, the bullets get de-stabilized when going through it, especially due to the low angle, so sticking his barrel out probably helped a bunch
SO DAMN GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope that NM has a law (Like a LOT of states have) where any death that occurs during A FELONY is considered to be 1st degree MURDER and the Criminal Is Responsible!!!
This also would include if. there was a Fatal Accident when the Criminals were driving on the wrong side of the road!

You are not allowed to shoot a hole through your windshield to use as a firing portal. This is a Cartel Tactic.
So what 🤷♂️ seems like it's not just a cartel tactic I guarantee military and police around the world use this tactic.
In this situation, the suspect had to be stopped. The suspect continued to fire at officers. Shooting a hole through the windshield was the best way to ensure rounds were returned to the suspect without further compromising the windshield while driving.
