- How to on a Mac - Allow Apps from Anywhere in macOS Security Gatekeeper (Mojave, Sierra, High Sierra, El Capitan).
See the error “App can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”
Mark Barner from MacGeni.com is showing you how to make Gatekeeper in MacOS allowing to override the default to only allow apps downloaded from either the App Store or identified developers.
As an advanced Mac-users you may want to allow a third option, which is the ability to open and allow apps downloaded from anywhere in macOS Sierra, El Capitan, macOS High Sierra, and MacOS Mojave.
1. Quit out of System Preferences
2. Open the Terminal app from the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and then enter the following command syntax:
sudo spctl --master-disable
3. Hit return and authenticate with an admin password
4. Relaunch System Preferences and go to “Security & Privacy” and the “General” tab
5. You will now see the “Anywhere” option under ‘Allow apps downloaded from:’ Gatekeeper options
REVERSE THE OPTION BACK TO NORMAL:
Use this command in Terminal:
sudo spctl --master-enable

Just type it in and press enter it is being registered but not shown.
I did that but it says sorry try again and I pressed enter and it said the same the thing

@@YannickJ try putting the admins password instead of the account password and make sure there are no spaces at the start or end

I'm seeing similar videos and the instruction is great but for my os not working I'm in mojave os
what is your os you used in this vid anyways? i have the mojave now but if i type the disabling it says team identifier fromt the list allowed to load kernel extensions and for some reason cant allow the apps
Yes, I had this too, is your disk incrypted with FileVault (dont know if this has to do with it)? I turned this off and tried to run this command again a few hours later now it worked...

open your applications folder, then utilities folder, then the app Terminal. Then follow the guide

Thanks for your message. I think you should try rebooting your Mac first and follow the guide again. Copy paste the commands from the comments.

why can't type password...been trying so many times and it's still doesn't work...so frustrating
you might have to type the admin password instead of your account password and if you have entered that, make sure you don't add a space at the start or end which was the problem for me

just type the password and hit enter. You can't see the password - so do it blindly and hit enter on your keyboard. See other comments about the same issue here

I Think WE have already texted together. The solution would be that you update your Mac to a newer version of the MacOS as you have an older operating system. So this guide will not help in really old macs.

Like explained in the video and in a lot of comments below 😌 you will not see anything while typing in the password. But just type it and press enter on the keyboard. And then it works
