That a great foundation. So long as you actually do them. If you're not used to weights, been away for a while. Inito Yoga & Hiking are my Top picks to avoid injury.
In my experience, light intensity cardio (hiking in the mountains a couple times per week) helped me in my hypertrophy phases. As a powerlifter, ive also noticed i get stronger while being active, as long as it isnt too intense and I am recovered enough between sessions. Increase calorie intake if you start doing cardio and your goal is to get bigger.
Jay's short rest high volume training was cardiovascular endurance training. If u do low volume with long rest times adding 30min of low intense cardio a few times a week will be beneficial.
Arnold & Franco were doing the high volume short rest workouts back in the 60’s. Honestly if you want to do each body part 2-3 times a week, it’s a necessity.
Ok what about for somebody who is 350 pounds 6’4 that’s trying to get to around 270 should i focus on cardio more heavy or just lift weights and eat right?
Calorie deficit is a must. Then lift and do cardio as long as you don't feel fatigued. Feel what is easier and comfortable for YOUR body and stick to it.
Do heavy compound lifts for your training, and keep your rest times somewhat short. You’ll burn way more calories than walking for an hour. Just about doing machines at the gym, or small isolated movements- those burn way less calories and build way less muscle.
Diet dude. Same situation here. High volume workouts with consistency and low intensity cardio like treadmill and walks. Weight is melting off, no joint pain, feeling great.
Cardio exercise has very little to do with fat loss. Diet, diet, diet. I lost 50lbs in less than 6 months and did no cardio at all. I changed my diet. Eat more (and smarter) and weight train hard. The fat will burn off you. Busting your ass on static cardio on a treadmill will do nothing for you.
Well you're trying to lose weight. So Skip the weights. I'm trying to bulk to combat my fast metabolism so I'm skipping the cardio. Simple. You're trying to lose not gain so you shouldn't even be thinking about lifting weights. Put all your energy into getting to 270 and once you get there THEN lift it you wanna put on muscle. You don't have to tho. Jays talking to bodybuilding fanatics that are hunting a larger physique
FYI guys this in regard to elite body building. For everybody else some cardio - even a moderate jog for 30 mins - is good for you unless you're doing a harsh cycle and haven't done any cardio previously because it might over stress your heart (if you're not an elite body builder you shouldn't be on that type of cycle anyway). For 99% of gym goers - even those on gear - cardio isn't going to decrease your gains.
“Keep your stress levels down” Don’t think Jay just said this in passing. It makes a big difference. You’re stressed out, your cortisol shoots up and your workouts and general physical feeling can be absolute ass. Keep your mental healthy too and it benefits your body and training.
That’s not what cardio is for. Cardio is for heart health. When you’re heart is healthy you can pump blood more efficiently into your muscles which aids in recovery and growth. People too lazy to throw in a couple cardio sessions a week always have some argument like this.
Same, I can't use a treadmill. Makes me feel like a hamster. Cardio for me, which I rarely do is basketball with me running constantly for like 2 hours straight. I can do the bike but that's a leg workout imo. I'd run at the town park before I got on a TREADMILL😂
Weight is a HUGE factor to cardio. I was biggest I've ever been at 220 this last winter, I was running like shit on treadmill. I'm 195 again my normal weight and I'm flying, 2/3 mins cut from my times. Just 25 pound difference. Makes me gain respect for heavy people attempting cardio like sprinting.
Yeah I advise every big guy or who wants to get big to implement cardio in their routine at least 10-20 minutes i do 30 minutes of cardio low kntensity walking on a treadmill / slow jogging and I dont need to suffocate everytime i finisv a weight lifitng set
Jay, It seems that many bodybuilders would have some level of hypertension. I've assumed that low impact cardio in the offseason would be helpful to combat that and allow us to push ourselves harder while staying healthy. It would be great to hear your opinion on this.
This is why it is important to know ones priorities. Heart health, to me, is important because I don’t want to leave my family early. You cannot grow your heart without working it out, too. Therefore, if your heart health is important to you, then you must do some type of cardio.
Cardio is a lot more important than muscle hypertrophy. It's important to have a strong healthy heart and respiratory fitness, with all the other health effects of cardio on human physiology and body, life expectancy, putting at bay things like dementia and heart diesease, cancer etc. If you should pick one thing, it should always be cardio and everything second. No reason you can't do both. What's the point in having big muscles if you can't run up stairs without huffing and puffing.
Muscles are for aesthetics. Just walk up the stairs or use an elevator. Unless you're an athlete, you have no reason to be able to run fast. I don't train for longevity and neither does anyone serious about hypertrophy.
Also, if you are not on exogenous hormones doing cardio on top of caloric restrictions is going to be extremely catabolic. Cardio is certainly a tool to lean out, but the advantage that professional bodybuilders have is that they can hit it hard from the diet side, as well as the cardio and training side without taking the hit to the hormones
Nice i do weightlifting as the primary aspect of my training (around 4-5 hours a week) and do 3 8k runs which usually take about 40 minutes each. Cardio makes you feel way better after as opposed to weights in my opinion but weights are their own fun in a dreaded sort of way.
The benefits of doing cardio are tremendous. You can still build muscle and gain strength while incorporating cardio. Cardio oxygenates your muscles, which helps with recovery and growth.
Just depends on your goals. As someone who ran track and cross country in high school, then got lazy and weak, I came back to the gym in my 30s and have loved the results I’ve seen. That said, I lift three times a week and run 5-10k once a week and my body feels better at age 36 than it ever has before. He’s right about stress though. I’m working on that too… fucking always 😂
I love Jay but he’s forgotten that most of us are natty , we have to workout differently and we can’t eat like a dude who’s on the sauce or we’ll just become a fat ass .
If you lift heavy 4-5 times per week, you don’t really even need to do cardio during those days. Leave it for your rest days whether it’s a light run, some elliptical…to help in recovery and your overall health
When I started training in high school, I got my cardio through sports. After I graduated I dropped most of the cardio (cause I’m lazy about it) and only lifted weights. I didn’t get fat or anything, but now I’m 29. My blood pressure was steadily going up and staying up. I chose to add cardio back into my routine. A few hours a week work of rowing and walking. Guess what? It basically instantly came back down to normal and stays there. Do your cardio for your heart boys.

I’m a wildlife photographer, so I basically carry all my gear a mile up the beach often. Weighted walking can be all the cardio you really need if you keep your diet in check. ❤
Your heart is also a muscle and probably one of the most important one because it is at the center of your circulation system. Heart disease is the top cause of early death. Also it is closely related to cognitive performance.
Just love this guy🙏🏻👍🏻💪🏻
Jay Cutler is the Goat but did he ever talk about his stack?
Test EQ GH Insulin in the off season... he loved EQ
@@JACKPOTTT777 I've seen so many videos and never heard him mention that. Thanks 💪🏼
This is definitely one page I'm tearing out.
Thanks Jay.
I skip cardio because I already walk too much, 9k-15k steps a day
Exactly what the human body is designed to do 👍
Walking or Hiking outdoors is a great way to take pause from the gym.
Dude I do 18k in a bulk, 25 k while diet. Ho tf told you 10k~ is much? Still, this is not cardio.
Walking is a cardiovascular exercise in case anyone forgot. I do an hour long walk at the end of the day to unwind and it makes me feel extremely relaxed.
when jay talks
we listen
Don't think you should listen. Jay is Jay and you are you. Maybe he doesn't need cardio, but he has the genetic potential of an Mr Olymp. You have not...
@@dominikschonberg6486people work demanding jobs and then go do cardio because they were told to by fitness dudes that don’t have jobs. By time they lift weights it’s a wrap and the workout goes flat. Everybody’s body and situation is different.
@@dominikschonberg6486 so not listening to someone I matter what they say is better?

Just giving you the BLUE PRINT.
Jay is a Legend
Jay Bulkler is my spirit animal.
Lmao underrated comment
Bro said keep your stress levels down like it’s sum shit you can just decide to do 😂😂
Most people don’t want to spend their entire lives in a gym. Lift some weights, go for hikes, do yoga, eat and sleep appropriately and the rest will take care of itself.
don’t take the advice then?😂
That’s not what jay is saying either if
You meat heads would freaking listen and pay attention instead of looking for your RUclips comment glory to shit talk a pro you’d learn something!!!!! All he’s saying is, when you get rid of all that white noise in the background, cardio is healthy and should be done, if you’re just building muscle and don’t want to waste extra calories where you
Don’t want or need them then don’t do cardio.
I mean for Christ sakes how hard was that to figure out!????? Jay cutler isn’t telling anybody hey don’t do cardio it’s not good for you 😂😂😂😂 most people like football too and manage to not be a
Pro and do it for a living pal!!!! Jay cutler hit the gym 2 times a day because that was his job dude that’s what he did for a living, I work construction I put in 10 hour days there’s times I go twice a day cause for one I enjoy it and two depends what I’m training for.
Here’s the thing with fitness you can’t run from, it’s not a hobby it’s not a cool thing to do to be awesome it is a lifestyle if you can’t live that life style don’t be mad bro, so what you can’t handle it do the best you can for your body and call it good, as
Long as what you do do is done at 100% that’s all that matters, but man 😂 ya need to get rid of that bit of jealousy you got with that “most people don’t want to spend their entire lives in the gym” comment 😂😂😂 to remain healthy and stable bud unfortunately for you you do need to spend time in the gym a minimum of 3 days a week at an hour each that’s just the bare bones minimum, if you
Can’t handle that maybe you should check your lazy gauge and realize maybe you’re in the lazy side of things 😂😂😂
That a great foundation. So long as you actually do them. If you're not used to weights, been away for a while. Inito Yoga & Hiking are my Top picks to avoid injury.
This guy got spots apparentle him more than than body building..
The only cardio i do is swimming, and it felt really good for me 😊
Thanks for the good advice lagend.... 💯🤝
The part everyone here is missing is training twice a day with high volume and a strict diet.
What if you have a life?
@@joethompson8131 that’s fine, just stop pretending to be a competitive bodybuilder.
Pretty common in his day.
The last thing you say in this video is very very well said, excellent articulation.
Once I did this my legs grew. Thanks homie!
Take that, Sam
Real talk Jay! 👍💪🥇🏆
My leg days are my cardio days 😢
I do cardio because I want to be athletic. That endurance that one can gain from doing consistent cardio is awesome
Never neglect "El Corazón"
Exactly. It's all about the "pasión" with cardio
You are awesome, Jay!
Skip the cardio but never skip the gear.
“Keep your stress levels down”
Don’t think Jay just said this in passing. It makes a big difference. You’re stressed out, your cortisol shoots up and your workouts and general physical feeling can be absolute ass. Keep your mental healthy too and it benefits your body and training.
Cardio lengthens your life and makes you fitter. The fitter you are, the stronger you are.
The higher set training is the way to go, sometimes. It's good cardio and builds fast twitch muscle.
Jay just made me feel better about my bulking and skipping cardio😂
You have to take these guys info with a grain of salt. They were on heavy gear in their day. Most still are. Lot of extra factors.
He’s so right. To bulkmax, cardio has to take a back seat
What, you can’t add those 300 calories cardio burns?
starting to do hiit not just for the benefits but soccer as well, literally no reason to neglect cardio
Cardio helps your reach failure without being exhausted, so I'd still recommend doing it lol
Yeah, leave your heart out of it, the most important muscle.
Cardio is essential, even when bodybuilding. DO NOT SKIP.
If your a bodybuilder then the GH and IGF -1 will keep you lean and condintioned
100% Agree. I went from 200lbs to 165lbs in 5 months just from starting to do workouts w/ dumbells & pushups!
Eating the same, No cardio
That’s not what cardio is for. Cardio is for heart health. When you’re heart is healthy you can pump blood more efficiently into your muscles which aids in recovery and growth. People too lazy to throw in a couple cardio sessions a week always have some argument like this.
Genetics maybe... Won't work like that for most PPL.
👍👍 really good videos Big guy…. Thank you!
I remember Jay at Golds in Vegas. He used a wheelchair to go from one exercise to another. So he didn't have to walk.
💯 I left my cardio in between workout or after my dinner
When I hear the word Cardio, I think of long distance running not walking on a treadmill.
Depends what your goals are. Walking is better for fat loss whereas long distance running would be better for your cardiovascular system
@@toby7647what😂😂 if you walk and run the same distance running laps walking in terms of benefits. That is complete bs. The most I've heard all day
Same, I can't use a treadmill. Makes me feel like a hamster. Cardio for me, which I rarely do is basketball with me running constantly for like 2 hours straight. I can do the bike but that's a leg workout imo. I'd run at the town park before I got on a TREADMILL😂
Not a single rep with full ROM was hurt here
Jay legitimately gives the best advice
Jay is an original authentic oldschool bodybuilder
HAPPY THANKSGIVING JAY!
FROM POLAND WITH LOVE!
Have you visited aushwitz
Important that he mentions stress too, such an overlooked thing
Some cardio is necessary for most to ensure your heart and lungs arent the limiting factor for lower body compounds 🤷
💪🏽CUTLER💪🏽 the best bro
The benefits of doing cardio are tremendous. You can still build muscle and gain strength while incorporating cardio. Cardio oxygenates your muscles, which helps with recovery and growth.
Jc, I really appreciate your info here thank you
Just depends on your goals.
Esti tare omule,am crescut cu tine❤
The legend as spoken #Facts #Period
Always good tips; respect!
Keeping stress levels dwn sounds like the hardest one.
If you lift heavy 4-5 times per week, you don’t really even need to do cardio during those days. Leave it for your rest days whether it’s a light run, some elliptical…to help in recovery and your overall health
I’ve always been on the heavier muscular side. Taking my cardio seriously has been a godsend in terms of both physique and recovery between heavy sets
You never been retired champ. You are really having a good time from now and then.
I do cardio because it help me recover for the next set quicker. Also it's a nice tool when trying to lean out.
