The dairy products in the UK are divine. Whenever I’m in London, I love to go to the Harrods Food Halls, select a few different cheeses, and something like a salmon mousse or a duck pâté, some savory crackers, and have a little “picnic” in my hotel room. The cheese in the UK is the best.
I used to be a cheesemonger, so just as a little tip, if you can't find Montgomery Cheddar, you can use a Cheddar called Tickler by the Castello Cheese Company. It is a fantastic substitute and it too has the little salt crystals as the Montgomery Cheddar does.
I've been making that for years. I feel so royal now! lol! I just put the spinach in raw and it cooks ok. Because I don't have King Charles's budget, I use bacon instead of prosciutto, although I would much prefer it, and just ordinary extra sharp cheddar. I don't put tomatoes in but I might try it. It's a wonderful breakfast but it also makes a nice light supper, too, with a few pieces of garlic bread and maybe some fruit salad.
I made this yesterday morning for my wife and I. Absolutely delicious! Served it with fresh, homemade bread, and champagne. Fabulous recipe, many thanks indeed for sharing!
I love this comment. I think it's the inclusion of the word 'champagne' in a sentence that follows one which contains the word 'morning' 😄. She's a lucky lady, I wonder what you were celebrating with such a special breakfast?
Love all the stories that go with all the recipes You are like a royal scribe You don’t know but you are documenting history You are spreading knowledge Thankyiu
I love this with a little nutmeg in my sautéed spinach. The finished dish is wonderful with crusty white or sourdough bread and a fruit salad to cut the richness (and a chilled glass of Cremant d’Alsace!!!). Thank you, Chef!!!
Wow, I just finished a VERY VERY LONG search for an affordable copy of "Eating Royally" and **finally** found one...supposedly autographed! That's great news about your books coming back into print! Good Show, Chef! I'll have to wing it not having easy access to British cheeses. King Charles III is right, cheese is DELICIOUS!
They surely don't. Whatever good they have been borrowed from other cultures and made some changes. Whatever is blind english dish is really blind and very simple and not the most good one.
@@bigboi980 yes it tastes good but they often use the most basic and bland ingredients. This is literally cheese, eggs and a bacon equivalent. Lol. I would eat it definitely but it isn't anything exotic. Very British. Some of the other recipes have been baked potatoes, lol. But that's not on the chef, I'm sure it's all cooked perfectly. That's literally what the royal family preferred.
Wow, that is a gorgeous and rich recipe! What’s not to love??! 🥚 You speak very lovingly of your time with TRF, and I can’t wait to hear more stories! Red Leicester is one of the undisputed Kings of cheese in the world!!!
Am I the only one that CANNOT adjust the LIGHTING??? Darren is SUPER-DARK... funky picture!! ALL the other videos are marvelous lighting-picture!! Argh! Luv-ya' All :)
I did this with 2 eggs & used a cheddar with scotch bonnet peppers 🌶️ in it … gave it quite a kick. I otherwise followed the recipe and included a few sprinkles of fresh thyme in it. Very good & RICH.
At first I was thinking his Majesty has a delightfully simple tastes because of the ingredients, and as the recipe built up, I thought that's one mighty fancy oeuf cocotte!
That’s a pretty decadent breakfast that looks just delicious. I can remember when the world though Charles was nuts with the idea of organic gardening. ❤️🇨🇦
@Valerie Bingham Your hopes are fulfilled: he has a 50year track record as Prince of Wales of "helping his peoples". The Prince's Trust and the Dumfries House Trust are two of his old-and-new efforts that you may enjoy reading about. The Dumfries House "rescue" in Scotland has been a great story. It became the biggest local private (non-government) employer in an area that was high unemployment. (And it generates tourist income and also trains locals for posh jobs in London and Edinburgh 5star-hospitality sector. )
With regard to organic products, at least here in the US, eggs are one of the few things where there is actually a significant taste improvement with the organic options. The cheap eggs tend to be watery.
I only took 12 hours of chemistry in college but I’m almost positive all food is organic. In regards to organic options. Seems kinda dumb sounding to say organic food. Idk
I made this today after church for brunch, and I have to report, it is SO GOOD! I served it with a hot, crusty baguette, and both my husband & I thought it was a winner!! This one is definitely going into the recipe file for another time. Thanks so much. King Charles sure has good taste!!
I think this would be the perfect recipe to surprise my mum and sister for breakfast. 🍽️☕ They love cheeses....and all the vegetables - especially tomatoes! Yum!! Thank you, chef! ❤️
Your Impressions are fantastic Darren. They illuminate the narration well. Kind of like when you have read aloud from story books for your girls when they were young. Brought the characters alive for them, didn't it? Bet they loved it. Don't stop. Cheers, Chuck in Florida.
nice to see you back, just ordered both books, been wanting them for over a year now. i hope you keep making videos leading up to the coronation in 1 1/2 months and get lots more views, you deserve it! you can also end with "fit for a King"

Love having my signed copy of Eating Royally. I’ve made the Soda bread and was intrigued that it was so similar to my grandmas biscuit recipe (that’s American biscuits). I’ve been tentatively planning a dinner party using this book and Julia Child’s books.
I'm surprised no one has pointed this out but I think you need to look at your video settings. Some more recent videos appear really dark. I looked at your older videos to confirm and there's a very noticeable difference.
Gosh! Chef Darren,😮 you have been gone so long I forgot I subscribed to your channel.😂! I will tell you this, I’d take this breakfast dish over the traditional English breakfast any day! That looks wonderful!!❤
This reminds me of a much classier version of a "baked" frittata I attempted. While it was delicious, it looked like a hot mess. I have no upcoming coronations, but I'd totally have this as a celebratory "me" breakfast 😅🎉

Black Amsterdam, or overyearly Gouda has too
Good to know! I’m going to try and find Montgomery, but I know for sure that my local market has Tickler.

You were a cheesemonger, yet you call them "salt crystals"?

I’m thinking smoked salmon would work well instead of the ham for an indulgent brunch treat.
@@LaurenRex That does sound good! I would just lay it over the top at the end. Smoked salmon doesn't need to cook, just warm up.
