Kevin's son contacted me about 5 years ago saying his father roadied for the Beatles and he'd like to meet me. I've traded emails with Kevin ever since and we've been trying to get together. I finally met him last week in Milton Keynes, England and we filmed this interview. Thank you to the folks at The Stables for letting us use this room.

A lot of things of major importance in the musical history happened in januari and februari in 1969, and Kevin was an eyewitness to one of these things: The Rooftop Concert with The Beatles. It's therefore so great and interesting to hear Kevin talk about it.
If I remember it correctly Bob Dylan was recording Nashville Skyline in februari 1969, and Elvis had a great recording session in januari/februari in 1969, and moreover Led Zeppelin released the first album on the 14th of januari 1969.
Big thanks Otis for posting this interview with Kevin.

The Roof Top Gig , referring to the Beatles as The Boys , they were messing about , proper band playing proper old rockers , taking the skylight out to"MAKE THE GIG HAPPEN". Kevin and I have souls of ROADIES not hired technicians . The other band says "It's Only Rock and Roll" , but is lot more than that . THANKS

without reading all the comments below, I think it would be fascinating to interview the policemen who waited in the lobby of EMI for so long before going up to the roof. I think they were incredibly restrained in that situation... with cameras on them etc. They handled it so well for being in a difficult position between the complaints they received from the surrounding businesses and realizing this was the Beatles on the roof! Who knew if would be such an iconic event.
Great interview with Kevin, Otis. You are killing it. Good luck to you.

Always remember my sisters story of when the Beatles were on a stopover in New Delhi India from after being in the Philippines in 1966, she was a air hostess with BOAC and she was asleep in the same hotel as the Beatles were staying in. She got a knock on the door and Mal Evens asked her do you want to spend some time with the boys, as they were bored and wanted some female company, but she said no and continued to sleep, honest this is a true story! My favourite song will always be Ticket To Ride because as a family we went to the Isle of Wight and there is a town called Ryde, it came out in 1965 when I was 12 years old, good memories!

Otis, there are just too many “favorites” to decide which Beatles’ song is my favorite. I could pick one or two from every album and the list will change in a few days or weeks…
And yeah, I’ve been listening to them and have been a lifelong fan since I was a newborn in ‘61…
I’ve collected Fan Club memorabilia since I was a young boy, and they’ve consumed a large portion of my disposable income over the decades, but I’ll never give it up. They’re always going to be the most important musical group in the history of music…

I enjoyed this video but you asked for people to list their favorite Beatle song, wow. I think that is a impossible task. The Beatle had so many great songs I don't know how a person could pick just one. It's quite impossible. I will say one I've always enjoyed is Norwegian Wood because it is a relatively simple song considering some of the other Beatle songs. Greatest rock band in history is a title only the Beatles will ever hold. Also considering their volume of work only spanned 7 years in the public eye it now seems like a miracle they could produce so many wonderful songs. Thanks for sharing this story !!

Great episode Otis...What a stroke of luck to be there about the time "Get Back" started streaming. Impossible to pick a favorite Beatles song. I have watched all three episodes of "Get Back" now twice. Needless to say I'm a huge Beatles fan and an even huger Lennon fan. Mr. Jackson has put together a masterpiece with "Get Back" Can't wait for it to be released on Blue Ray or DVD or whatever. I hope they will release also just an audio version. I'd throw it on all day any day just to listen to them.
What was truly wonderful about it besides watching how they worked together creating their wonderful music in "real time" is I feel sort of "Healed" If you're my age 67 they're breaking up was HUGE!!!! What the press and media turned it all into & trying to make it all so ugly, the media & fans blaming Yoko...etc. All obviously absolute bull shit! They all four loved one another and respected one another and obviously would have at some point got back together in some capacity had it not been for all the various side shows & circumstances that kept it from happening & at last the tragic murder of John. I've always sort of known this but now "I KNOW IT" and it makes me happy!!!!! VERY HAPPY!!!! "Get Back" is some real happy shit!!!! Bravo to Mr. Jackson and his masterpiece "Get Back"...PLH-ELB

Hard to pick a favorite. Oh, Darlin’, I love Prestons solo in Get Back. Julia, Across the Universe, Hey Jude, Hey Bulldog. Man, I can’t pick a fav! I’m just starting 3rd and final part. What strikes me is how John seemed a bit checked out, and wasn’t as domineering as I thought. With Paul’s personality, it’s no wonder he’s the richest Beatle. He’s definitely the most driven. I understood George’s frustration and Ringo’s boredom. I wondered about this red haired kid, too. Great get, Otis!

As for my favourite Beatles song? So many to choose from. I love their Larry Williams covers, all screaming rockers. Yesterday and The Long and Winding Road are beautiful melancholy works.
And don't forget George. If I Needed Someone, Long, Long, Long and the acoustic version of Guitar Gently Weeps are great.
I always maintain that by the end, The Beatles had three great songwriters in the band. It would have been impossible to keep them together.

My favorite Beatle songs were the earliest ones. A Sunday Newspaper addition was called PARADE MAGAZINE and I see Parade now still in some papers. Every Sunday there would be lyrics and TAB for a different Beatle song. I was youngest sibling, and I would fight my 3 older siblings over that Parade magazine. I was so proud learning songs like PAPERBACK WRITER then "amazing my friends ". Beatlemania hit when I was in 3th grade. The rawness of DON'T BRING ME DOWN and hearing KOM GIB ME DIENA HANN (my rough phonetic spelling of I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND in German) just did it for me. Much of the later Beatles music I heard much later because when I first heard JIMI I was hooked and my feet didn't touch earth until maybe 5 years after Jimi died. I still find Bestles songs I've never heard before. I didnt "love" every song but respected and acknowledged there would never be such a powerhouse writing team again in my lifetime. When I started gigging in early 70's any time I'd hear a local band pull off a Beatles song it made me worry because they had the balls to try and skill to actually do it.

He says he could't get "Paul's bass" onto the roof, but he must mean Paul's bass amp. It's about the same size as the keyboard lower half that he also mentions. Paul's bass was just the little Hofner--not a standing bass--so it wouldn't be any bigger than a human body. It could be held in front of you to get it up the stairs and through any doorway. Watched the docu-series and I was thinking about the ongoing discussion of would they play a live show and if so, where. When the rooftop option was discussed I recall Paul commenting maybe they would get in trouble and the police would come to shut them down. He seemed please with that possibility. When the police showed up on the rooftop at one point Paul looked around and saw them and smile came across his face. They had caused a proper ruckus worthy of police intervention. That was so cool to see.

I was 10 years old, in bed with my transistor radio down low so I wouldn't get caught. Local show from a burger drive in and the crowd kept chanting Beatles...Beatles.

I dunno.. as a primary witness to one of rock's most iconic performances someone with $$$ should sit down with this guy and seriously break down the documentary scene by scene.

Who fastened down Ringo's hi-hat ? I noticed in the film it was in the wrong place and he was trying to move it.

Hello all I have been a fan since the sixties, I have been asked many times what your favorite Beatles song is, but it's so hard to pick one. Generally when pressed to give a response, I say Come Together, and Something. I can accept those two as my favorite songs but only when pressed for an answer. Thanks Beatles brothers and sisters ✌️ and 🤘.

I wondered how loud they played on the roof. They must of had a pa for the vocals.
Also wondered how they played as I suspect their fingers were cold. I play guitar and the fingers don’t move as well when cold.
I come to suspect that Yoko and Mo and others were sitting by the chimney to stay warm.

You are a wise interviewer you ask great questions and with all the people that this man has worked for since then you could have asked him to make comparisons. I love comparisons but there are unfair and you stayed away from it so kudos to you

Favorite by the Fab Four? Have to say, "While my Guitar Gently Weeps'. Paul's piano leading into Eric Clapton's guitar. Incredible & timeless. And also, the recent song "Free As a Bird" .
