I live around the corner from Paul McCartney. Occasionally I see him in the street or in the local pubs. Not in the pubs too often though. Nice guy. Friendly. I thought it odd that he said he was from Speke in Liverpool, a new housing estate then which is right next to the airport, the same place as George Harrison - they met on the bus going to school. Paul left Speke when he about 11 years of age moving to Allerton. The house in Allerton was where he and John wrote some of the early songs. When you become aware of the world, being influenced with your character forming, he was in Allerton.

One late night many years ago a station in Buffalo, New York (WKBW) blasted far and wide their first playing of "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" which had just dropped. The DJ was so impressed he played it again, right away. (Jack Armstrong?)
Maybe not my favorite of Paul's, that's too hard to say, but it was a magical experience for me, an insomniac teenager way out on Eastern Long Island, awake and feeling all the teen hurts, heartaches, and little depressions. What a great coincidence I was up to hear this amazing suite by Paul. It lifted me Otis, it really pulled me up and out of it.

Sometimes hard to make out what he's saying, but man, the roadies see it all. The Beatles never projected arrogance and that's part of why they were/are the greatest band in rock 'n roll history. And their inner circle was committed to preserving an image of being accessible. They knew they were fundamentally 4 blokes from Liverpool who made it big.
