Glad that Rachel continues to question every choice you make. She continues to gain more wisdom on helping wrong way nation insuring more thought is taken before each choice is made.
that was, absolutely, the absolute wrong way to install a distributor. For those watching, the oil pump is driven off the bottom of the distributor - so that blade needs to interface with the oil pump. the second issue is the rotor (under the cap) must point at number 1. and third, firing order. going around the distributor, starting with number 1, you put the 2nd place to cylinder 5, 3rd to 3, etc.... but this is wrong way, so we did get what we paid for :D ....
I assume someone else has told you this Ben but you should take that gasket off of the distributor those are helical gears and if it’s not sitting flush as it should then the helical gears are not going to match up properly causing possible timing issues you don’t need to worry about a gasket there because if you look on the shaft of the distributor it has an O ring
Ben. You have manuals. Use them Take off the valve cover Look at the two front valves If they wiggle then you are on the compression stroke. Then get your BB/tdc lined up Drop dissy in with the rotor in the right alignment
Watching this lunacy made me yearn for the heady days of the 60 road trip. You seemed so much more competent then. Could you explain timing order to us again please? Ask me how I know about timing orders. Been there. Doing things the wrong way is not a bad way to learn. You're learning a lot hey?
The two bolts that secure the sniper, closest to the valve cover should already be in their holes before you mount the adapter plate to the intake manifold. I messed that up myself.
Hey Ben TDC doesn't matter unless the rotor is lined up, without the cap on at TDC the rotor should point at #3 cylinder, it's also best to try and line the oil pump up with a long flathead, however you can apply slight pressure on the distributor as Rachel(in your situation) bumps the engine over and it will drop into the oil pump slot, keep plugging along bud, I love that 40! bs_build_stuff
Oil pump just needed to be turned, the bottom of the distributor drives it. Also the other stuff about the distributor rotor needs to be pointed in the right spot. But man, we’ve all been there 🇺🇸
put a something long a skinny in the spark plug hole turn the motor buy hand till the piston is up top... the dizzy only goes in one way look at the keyway on the bottom of the dizzy line it up with the keyway in the motor put number one plug Lead where the rotor button is pointing I think that's how you do it from my memory 😁😅🤣 it's all way's fun watching wongway
So, my 82 cruiser’s firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6... I hope I that it’s correct because I’ve been drinking it for a few months like that... Edit: Never mind I immediately went to the garage and it’s in the correct firing order as your video states -
Is there a mechanic out there who is going to say fill the oil filter and put a little bit on the seal before it is put on. Been following this from the start. Don't want to see the motor wrecked day one.
Anyone else yelling "take the bloody dizzy cap off and turn the rotor" at the TV?
yep
Yes
Hell yeah
Yep
I got it... good advice all around.
Im struggling with mine so much, happy to see that you struggled a bit too
I definitely show the struggle…

She’s the brains.

YES. EXACTLY.

Removed, good looking out.
Your 60 was fun content, but I've enjoyed this video so much. Glad to see you back at the 40.
Home stretch, time to get the 40 done!

Take off the valve cover

Honestly, just based on the feedback for this video I have the right idea now. Thank you.

Best way to learn is from mistakes. Or at least it’s one way to learn...
Georg assumed you'd turn the rotor to the number 1 with the cap off.
Of course he didn’t. But he did make an unnecessary gasket.
@@blacksquirrel4008 yup the dizzy rubber o ring does that.
@@84runner well, at least the “wrong way” is truth in labeling.
I never lied about the shows title. Or my intelligence...
You know what happens when you assume... I destroy my engine.

Ha! Genius bro, I did remove the bracket and put those two in. Totally correct.
Love this channel. This was painful to watch. I wanted to reach through the screen and do it myself!!
I’ve been instructed on the proper method! Have no fear.
Best channel RUclips !!
Too kind my man!
At 14:30 "1 5 3 6 2 4" you're kidding right? That's the firing order. The cylinders are still 1-6 from to back.
Gotcha...
One temp sensor is for the gauge, one was for the emissions "computer" which you can now use for the sniper.
Good looking out R.
That thing's going to be running any day now! Ben, put safety glasses on when you're using the wire wheel...just do it.
Why getting hit in the eye by tiny wires feels good lol
I need to revisit my safety protocols

Good looking out, I’ve remedied this... hopefully.
@@projectwrongway9127 good job bud! Keep up the good fight.
5:51 for what should have been the cover photo of this video
Nope. 12.18
Both of you are right.
"Gimme two minutes... That's not a song" Dying over here! Ha... (Skynyrd = Gimme three steps was in my head too, you just said it out loud.)
Two STEPS! I was close.
I mean Three. Shit.
Great Episode! You seem to be on the last stretch before you can fire this thing up.
So close I can almost taste it.

Learned a ton from the comments on this one, good looking out.
PWW: Hi, I'm Ben. Rachel's behind the camera. And today, I was behind Rachel.
😆

What he said. I use a flashlight and just look down the hole as I turn the crank by hand.
A plastic straw and taking the distributor cap off would have made this a short video
Good looking out Robo!
There a small light at the end of this tunnel... let’s gooo
Nearly there bro.

You’re more right than I am.
Is that a high torque starter?
Yes, FJ60 series starter.
“Fusable Link”-think I I counted you saying that 62 times.
It’s the word of the day.
I don't know much about engines but if you get the timing wrong you are in for a world of trouble
That much I do know…
I NEED THIS SHIRT BUD! tell me how?
Gotta do another run of shirts for sure.
There are many videos on RUclips that will show you how to stab a distributor. This is not one of them.
No, project Wrong way is not for “how to do” something correctly.
The Holley Sniper has another temp sensor
Good to know, thank you!
Coolerman makes fusible links…
Yeah, if only I get get an email back from him 😆

It’ll be on a short time before the next oil change.
Finally, an FJ40 video which is much more interesting and valuable than a piece of shit FJ60. Keep up the good work man
Man! You hate FJ60’s big time! What happened there... what caused this?!
