I just spent $1500 on the left controller for a Cat 257B. After installing I watched this video since the right one was leaking. I bought the bullet set (including a new grip) for about $100 off of EBay to "rebuild" the right one - well worth your time to fix it yourself. Great video!
Pro tip: make sure you relieve hydraulic pressure before removal or working while valve assy is still mounted. Also, if you remove the valve assy have caps for the lines. The pressure, control, and tank/return lines do not have one way check valves! At least not on a 2005 Cat 257B, so once you disconnect the lines your system will continue to bleed fluid...trust me, ugh!

@@mattdarbro4830 ooooouch! $1500! I didn’t have caps for the disconnected lines so I just put them in a bucket to catch the fluid.
It needed to be changed anyway so it worked out.
The taki takes 15/40 motor oil as the hydraulic fluid… thought that was interesting makes keeping fluid on hand easier since I have a Cummins, bobcat e32 and the skid loader.

Thanks for posting video on replacement of seals. I just completed the seals on my tl230 series 2. I'd suggest leaving pilot valve on machine to do it with less mess and work. Also you will have to de-pin the control stick plug to pull wire and be able to unscrew stick which was pretty easy..Just make sure to take a picture of where the wires go

      Thanks for watching.
I should have left it in but it had been leaking for so long that the whole area needed to be cleaned with degreaser and pressure washer.
Oh pictures have helped so much … they never lie or forget.
I love this machine… would even go so far to get the motor rebuilt if it came to it.
      Thanks for watching.

Have to do this exact repair just on the LH drive joystick. Thank you for making this video.

Me too! Some gorilla used the machine and broke it… if I had to do it again I would buy all the seals, plungers and the brass fitting the plungers go into.
      Glad it helped

Everything still holding up ok after the repair? No more blow-by from the plungers?

@Gtown1981 there is a little bit but nothing compared to what it was, I also think I didn’t replace some of the seals. The exploded diagram is kinda confusing on what I should order.
I should have just said give me all the seals.

Glad it helped, I’m in Westchester ny just outside NYC, nearest dealer to me is about 1.5hrs north…. Fortunately these machines don’t break often.

Thank you very much. Hopefully this is similar to my sv100 that drips fluid all over the floor on both sides.

From what I understand, machines with joystick controls are assembled pretty much the same way. So I’m general it should be similar.

Can these go bad internally I got a vermeer in the shop that wants to drive forward on its own them any input it spins to the right

Not really. It’s actually a relatively simple mechanism. Sounds like either the hoses are connected incorrectly or you have another problem with other valves attached to the hydro pump.

  • @tite-r-tone8258

Also, could this be done with the pilot valve still installed on the machine?

    • @Ratherbemilling
      @Ratherbemilling  11 месяцев назад

You could do it in the machine but it could get tight and might be more difficult than it’s worth.
Taking it out will give you a chance to inspect it better and clean everything a bit better.
