We have a similar format in our domestic cup. It is very dumb and confusing. In the end there are teams that get taken out of the competition by other teams they have never played against.
So this is how it is-
36 teams will take part. Each team will play 2 different teams from the 4 pots in a one legged game. 1 game from each pot will be played at home and the 1 game from each pot will be played away from home. The draw is very complex and will take hours to make by humans so it will be done by a computer and shown live on TV.
Each win in the league gives you 3 points, a draw gives you 1 point and a lose give you 0 points. GD is prioritized over H2H when points are equal. Top 8 in the table at the end will qualify directly for the round of 16 and won't face each other in round of 16.
Teams that finish 9-24 (16 teams) will face each other in a 2 legged game to qualify for the remaining 8 spots in the round of 16 (9th placed team will face 24th placed team, 10th team will face 23rd team, and so on).
Teams that finish 25-36 are eliminated directly out of all European competitions.
From round of 16 onwards it will be a 2 legged game (1 home and 1 away). It will be similar to current UCL format (UCL 2023/24)
UEFA will use the league rankings to determine which top 8 teams will face the 8 teams that qualified from 9th to 24th rank and the route of teams to the final. The whole route from round of 16 to final will be determined by the league rankings. So there won't be a lottery or luck. Everything will be known from the league rankings. First 2 teams in the league rankings can only meet in the final.
My opinion-
I think this new system is brilliant and will turn out to be a huge success. Maximum a team can play is 17 games. 15 games if they finish in top 8. So not much compared to the current UCL format (UCL 2023/24) which is 13 games. We will see our team facing 8 different opponents in the league instead of playing 3 opponents two times in the group stage.
Only the big clubs will quality to knockout phrase because the debut clubs and small clubs cannot performance consistently for the league phrase

a lot of you think but uefa actually used to do two group stages rounds
Also don't forget the new CWC2025 format. 32 teams will qualify there. It's like the current UCL format (2024). The only difference is that all matches will be one legged. So reaching the final will mean a total of 7 games. So big European teams can have a maximum of 17+7=24 games in both of these competitions together in a season compared to previous seasons which was 13+2=15 games. And there will be a loooot of big games. Teams will have to use the bench more or else injuries might happen.
I think that my only issue with the format is that UCL teams don't transfer down to the UEL if they lose the KO-Playoff round for example

It is ridiculous. People that are getting paid from football don't listen to the people that actually play football. If Clop and Pep (the best of the best and not your everyday average manager) say that the games are TOO MANY for the players to handle why do you put MORE GAMES into the calendar?

Actually this format is worse than Euroleague Basketball. At least in Euroleague Basketball format is easy to follow. While this new format of the Champions League is confusing!

uefa used 2 have 2 groups stages which added 6 additional games. This only adds 2. Which means it will start a month earlier. So your argument is invalid.

@danny50117 seems like you did not understand. Compared to curren format, the number of games will increase by 2 for teams that finish in top 8 or 4 for teams that finish in 9-24.
