such an American take. Everybody in the world knows the highest prestige in football is the World Cup. It has been like that forever and will stay that way. Your argument could apply to the Europa league . Are you going to say that’s better too ?
World Cup is the highest prestige, but not the highest level of football. Of course every player will take 1 world cup over 3 champions leagues, but that's only because World cup is much more rare since it's only once every 4 years and it's a country competition and there's really only a handful of countries with a realistic chance to win it, if you are not from one of those countries, you're out of luck. That's why it's higher prestige, but the level of competition is higher in Champions league.
Terrible format. This new format has two main functions. 1. more games = more money. 2. Makes it easier for bigger teams to stay in the competition longer. No more Liverpool or Barca or some other underperforming "big" club dropping down and out of the competition early. With 8 different teams to play in the group stage it's highly likely these bigger teams will be making it out of the groups every year, which is of course what UEFA wants cause the longer the big teams stay in the more money UEFA makes. because even if out of those 8 games you play 2 top teams that still gives you 6 very winnable games to get enough points to advance and that's assuming you lose both of the big games. and we all know EUFA "random" draw will never match up most of the big teams into one group. Screw EUFA.
This "table" thing is okay-ish, since it just compares group results against each other. The stupid thing is taking more teams and adding more matches. It's dropping it's value, for real
To make the format easier to understand increase the champions league to 48 teams. 12 groups of 4 like the euros. The top 8 third place teams are in pot 2 and the remaining teams go to the Europa League. Same allocation with the winner of the conference league getting a berth. For the remaining 15 teams associations ranked 6-21get an extra spot in the qualifiers. I'd also add a rule(this won't happen)that says a Champions League squad must consist of no less than 15/23 of your players being homegrown. Expand the number of substitutes to 7 and 8 if its during extra time. Teams need to be using their entire bench more to rotate their squad.

The name was always stupid ''champions league'' you could argue some people were not happy when the format changed from the European cup but in the end everyone gets used to it and accepts it..
The format of the UCL was crap. It was mostly predictable. The top two almost always go through with ease. The knockout is when it gets interesting. The best Champions league was when they had the second group stages. All four were good teams. Then the knock out stage.
There are many times where the expected top 2 don’t advance. Including Dortmund, who was predicted to finish 4th in the group and now is in the UCL final
@@bernardoisaac-hf5qw there won't be any groups of death anymore. Now it will be just top teams beating up on smaller teams for 7 games and maybe 1 game where two top teams have to play each other with the result not having much meaning since they both will get enough points from the smaller teams.
Just one quick correction, the champions league is not adding additional games to the teams that finish mid table in the champions league, they are simply making it so that teams that finish top third skip that round. The round of 16 is in both the old and new formats.
Just wait until we get big fixtures in beginning and then see how people will start loving this format it’s like you can see arsenal vs real madrid and mancity vs leverkusen in beginning only damn imagine those games ☠️☠️
4 extra spots explained 1.there is a European league rankings called the association coefficient, based on the last 5 years the league ranked 5th (France) will gain an extra spot 2.qualifiers has 2 paths Champion path and League path, an extra team will qualify from the champion path (5 lower ranked champions will enter through the path) 3 and 4.back to the coefficient league ranking stuff the top 2 ranked leagues for that year will gain an extra spot (Italy and Germany) hope this helps
It's hard to see how it works. If a club wins their first 4 games for example, doesn't that mean they are already basically through in the top 8? Doesn't that make their last 4 games pretty irrelevant?
@@NitroFooty That's what I'm thinking too. So we could have a whole host of dead rubber games, especially in the last few rounds of the 8 group rounds.
The format was broken though. Seeding teams in groups of 4 ends up in uncompetitive fixtures and lots of predictable outcomes. This format at least guarantees more marquee fixtures earlier on
The format is easy to understand but people just don't want to do it and would rather complain even though it's better than before. Except if it's group of death, nobody wathches matchdays 5 and 6 since it's already decided who advances. Also it gives more chances to qualify but still people complain about not giving chance to smaller teams (Bologna - 5th in Italy, Brest - 3rd in France + one additional team from play offs)
I have been playing with the new format on football manager for the past 2 years, it’s okay honestly I mean I hate how you can’t drop down to other competitions like 3rd in UCL goes to UEL and etc. it’s debatable
Football just going to a bad place rn, both Clubs competitions and national team competitions. It was already impossible for smaller teams to win the UCL it was changed from the european cup to UCL. Youd only see the same rich teams from the same countries always in the finals, like youd never see aston villa, celtic, etc, again. And this is making it worse.
what a great format! surely we arent gonna see every world class player destroy their ACL and ruin their career for some cash they will never see........
The format is pretty bad. But I don’t even like the whole coefficient stuff. They could’ve given the extra 4 spots and distributed them as automatic spots to associations 5-8, making their UCL team count go from 2.5 to 3.5, if you’re gonna include the format, at least do that. I don’t want to look at a coefficient table and rely on my rivals just to make UCL football. The format is so dumb, but they could’ve done the allocations of the 4 extra spots so much better FYI: screw UEFA
@@NitroFooty Actually you should cuz all the mistakes you say about the new Champions league are solved on the new Super League. Less games, it is based on merit, it is more logic and straighforward to come up with the system
in my opinion the older format is the best, no group stage no nothing straight up knockout stage until the final, it was the best and most fair for the clubs
Because you somehow think the current format is interesting? More straightforward for sure but it now boils down to whom of Real Madrid or Manchester City will win. Not even Bayern can keep up with these. Also similar concerns were expressed about the expansion to 32 teams and guess what? The older fans didn't like it but the new gen fans who hadn't experienced anything else lapped it up. Now any suggestion that the competition should be for champion teams only is greeted with scorn.
Yeah, but national teams have to only use what they can use so that’s why the World Cup is harder because national teams only have the players they have
Bro why why why this is not Prem league why are they dping this the old format was 1000% better, with the gorups it was more exiting because you know the goal differences the little points that the little teams needed to qualify for the knockout stages, thats what made UCL more exiting (bc fairytale runs). Now it is just money dumping teams that are gonna win SCREW UEFA
Champions League should be renamed imho. How can you call it "Champions" League and look for "best club team in Europe" when you allow teams other than champions of their leagues to compete. I mean, "Champions" league will have 5 or possibly even 6 teams from one league enter next year (Bundesliga). That is a 1/3 of that league that is going to enter the "Champions" League. Sorry, but Dortmund, Leipzig, Bayern, Stuttgart and possibly Eintracht aren't champions.
@@NitroFooty Then they'll have 6 clubs in UCL and that is just too much and honestly beats the point of calling it a "Champions" League. For me it should be winner of every UEFA national league (top say 15 leagues have direct qualification, while others have one knockout round to decide for other spots) + last years winner of UCL (if haven't qualified through winning the league). Other teams from leagues should be put in Europa League and Conference League so that being in top 5 still brings some continental competition and prize money associated with that. It would also bring the standards of Europa League and Conference League up by a mile with having teams like Arsenal, Juventus, Barcelona, Atletico, Tottenham and others not winning their respective league competing in them instead of UCL
Technically the Champions League started in 1992-3, before that it was the European Champions Cup, with the winners of all of the leagues of Europe from the previous season, and a simple elimination format. IMHO that was better, but resulted in a lot fewer games, so not good for TV revenue, which kind of tells you what is driving the new format. It'll be greeeaaat though. Imagine endless games of Real Madrid etc playing some team you never heard of, from a city you never heard of in a country you never heard of. Fabulous.
Great vid but isn’t this a re upload ? Edit: also watching this as a Villa fan who was thinking “I’ll be happy if we finish top 3 in our group” to be reminded there’s no more groups and no more demotion to Europa 😢
The superleague isn't dead. It's more alive than ever actually. UEFA and FIFS lost a court case against the superleague. Reports came out that almost 30-50 teams are ready to join the superleague starting next season, including premier league big six teams who came out publicly rejecting the superleague because the league threatened them. Also this new UCL format came out AFTER the new superleague format but the ucl one is just way worse lol removing subsequent competitions. The superleague has relegation so even partnered teams are not a guarantee. Also adding to the fact that FIFA changed the club world cup format for next season making it way bigger, just makes you look at UEFA and FIFA like ?????? The thing with the superleague and ucl is money. The champions league winner can get awarded around 150M for their whole run, while some mid-table prem teams get awarded more just for existinhey. This would change with the superleague and it would be free to watch. The only thing stopping the superleague right now is the name. They have to re-brand because it has the same name as the Turkish superleague so, don't take anything as set in stone yet.

There’s an extra playoff of 2 matches for each mid table team
O wait, they added knockouts… right
I already stopped watching the Champions League anyways because of all the money fuckery.
Just wait until we get big fixtures in beginning and then see how people will start loving this format it’s like you can see arsenal vs real madrid and mancity vs leverkusen in beginning only damn imagine those games ☠️☠️
Over saturation
@@NitroFooty just wait for the fixtures then see how the trend totally change towards system
4 extra spots explained
1.there is a European league rankings called the association coefficient, based on the last 5 years the league ranked 5th (France) will gain an extra spot
2.qualifiers has 2 paths Champion path and League path, an extra team will qualify from the champion path (5 lower ranked champions will enter through the path)
3 and 4.back to the coefficient league ranking stuff the top 2 ranked leagues for that year will gain an extra spot (Italy and Germany)
hope this helps
Thanks 🙏
@@NitroFooty no problem
It's hard to see how it works.
If a club wins their first 4 games for example, doesn't that mean they are already basically through in the top 8? Doesn't that make their last 4 games pretty irrelevant?
I mean yeah assuming that 12 points is enough, will probably need a couple more points to 100% guarantee
@@NitroFooty That's what I'm thinking too. So we could have a whole host of dead rubber games, especially in the last few rounds of the 8 group rounds.
Why!? The best thing abt CL groups is that you can still play Europa or Conference league. But noe yiu don't. SCREW UEFA
Yeah itll suck getting knocked out instead of going to Europa league
The format was broken though. Seeding teams in groups of 4 ends up in uncompetitive fixtures and lots of predictable outcomes. This format at least guarantees more marquee fixtures earlier on
This format doesn’t guarantee that, it’ll be similar level matchups
We need 4th UEFA competition.
The Farmers League
Bro i thought you had At least 100k subs when i first saw you like your content is so engaging
I appreciate that! One day we will!
The format is easy to understand but people just don't want to do it and would rather complain even though it's better than before. Except if it's group of death, nobody wathches matchdays 5 and 6 since it's already decided who advances. Also it gives more chances to qualify but still people complain about not giving chance to smaller teams (Bologna - 5th in Italy, Brest - 3rd in France + one additional team from play offs)
but are they the champions?
screw uefa
yuuup
New format is terrible for the smaller clubs who needs the money from Europa League & Conference League to improve...
The quality of games are going to be so much better now that the players that are already over-playing now get to play even more yippee!
Hooray!
I have been playing with the new format on football manager for the past 2 years, it’s okay honestly I mean I hate how you can’t drop down to other competitions like 3rd in UCL goes to UEL and etc. it’s debatable
It’ll be something new. But I’m a guy who likes the records in football. Now it’ll be much easier to beat any existing individual UCL records
I won’t be surprised if future players retire early like at age 29 or 30 because of too many matches.
It seems that some have been already like Hazard. But we’ll see 10 years from now the effects this causes
@@NitroFooty 2 ways :
Too many matches = too much exhaustion = retirement
Too many matches = too many injuries = retirement
Old format: 96 Group games
New format: 144 Group games + 16 extra knockout games (160 total)
The greed is insane.
Yep, they definitely knew what they were doing
uefa are only doing this format because they don’t want the actual super league to happen
So they claim
@@NitroFooty they literally reveal this format after the super league club’s rejection hmm an 2021
good video, keep this up and youìll grow the channel in no time im sure
I appreciate that!
I'm gonna bet that this new "format" will last for one season only
Bold take I bet it’ll last a little longer than that
@@NitroFooty ig ur also right but considering the backlash I don't think it'll last for as long as the original format
@@NitroFooty l think the ones who lose the playoff should go to the europa league
Dudes your so underrated
Thanks bro!
Still think some clubs should drop to the Europa league
Would be nice tbh
Screw Uefa, but I thought when you lose the play-off match that you would go to the europa league
I don’t believe so.
Next video is actually talking about the new World Cup format
Great video man. Here’s so you don’t have to do math 🎉 (subbed)
Thanks I don’t like math
what a great format! surely we arent gonna see every world class player destroy their ACL and ruin their career for some cash they will never see........
SCREW UEFA, THE OLD FORMAT IS BETTER
Tell ‘em
@@NitroFooty Honestly, unless they gave all the spots to the smaller leagues, it doesn't do anybody good
The format is pretty bad. The format is so dumb, but they could’ve done the allocations of the 4 extra spots so much better
FYI: screw UEFA
That’s true
Let's give it a try first, ok?
Still screw UEFA and screw FIFA but for different reasons.
The super league was a great idea just poorly designed initially. The new revamped version is based on sporting merit.
Should I review the revamped version?
@@NitroFooty Actually you should cuz all the mistakes you say about the new Champions league are solved on the new Super League. Less games, it is based on merit, it is more logic and straighforward to come up with the system
in my opinion the older format is the best, no group stage no nothing straight up knockout stage until the final, it was the best and most fair for the clubs
They should do it March madness style 😂
@@NitroFootyhonestly great pre season trophy idea 😂
And that was unfortunately exactly why they got rid of it. Can't risk the chance of the big money makers potentially exiting early.
new format is ok, i play it on fm, but old format is goated
👆
Because you somehow think the current format is interesting? More straightforward for sure but it now boils down to whom of Real Madrid or Manchester City will win. Not even Bayern can keep up with these.
Also similar concerns were expressed about the expansion to 32 teams and guess what? The older fans didn't like it but the new gen fans who hadn't experienced anything else lapped it up. Now any suggestion that the competition should be for champion teams only is greeted with scorn.
Bayern literally won the treble twice in the last decade what are you on about
Yeah, but national teams have to only use what they can use so that’s why the World Cup is harder because national teams only have the players they have
World Cup is definitely my favorite event in sports. I was talking strictly football level of play
I bet the next generation will act like the new champions league format is like 1+1
Edit:screw them
screw em
Whatever happens you can always count on Man City to start off with pecking away at the weakest teams in the competition
“Random draw”

Bro why why why this is not Prem league why are they dping this the old format was 1000% better, with the gorups it was more exiting because you know the goal differences the little points that the little teams needed to qualify for the knockout stages, thats what made UCL more exiting (bc fairytale runs). Now it is just money dumping teams that are gonna win SCREW UEFA
Do i love the new format?
No
Do i would still watch the game?
Yes
Screw Uefa?
More like screw the players but fuck eufa.

What if Dortmund win UCL tho
Screw UEFA
Screw em!
@@NitroFooty screw them
More complications ,more exciting are the fans🎉🎉🎉
you think?
Technically the Champions League started in 1992-3, before that it was the European Champions Cup, with the winners of all of the leagues of Europe from the previous season, and a simple elimination format. IMHO that was better, but resulted in a lot fewer games, so not good for TV revenue, which kind of tells you what is driving the new format. It'll be greeeaaat though. Imagine endless games of Real Madrid etc playing some team you never heard of, from a city you never heard of in a country you never heard of. Fabulous.
Yeah under its current name but I still count the European Champions cup, and most people do I think
SCREW UEFA! I still don't know how they pick the new 4 teams haha
It’s a puzzle
Great vid but isn’t this a re upload ?
Edit: also watching this as a Villa fan who was thinking “I’ll be happy if we finish top 3 in our group” to be reminded there’s no more groups and no more demotion to Europa 😢
It was previously on my other channel which has been dedicated to only fifa now
more games more injuries, not liking this new UEFA format
yep
Nike's Last Game got more real lol
Lol
I hope not
I mean it's not bad but I think this is probably more entertaining
