  • Back in the day, when I was just 17 and attending high school in Chicago, I landed my first job at this very Walgreens in Lincolnwood IL. It was a fun and memorable experience where I met a lot of other high schoolers from the area. It was the most fun I had and earning over $4 per hour seemed like I was on top of the world. There was even a girl I worked with who asked me to be her date at her prom at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, which was very flattering. :-)
Fast forward to today and 37 years later, and I'm stepping back inside for the first time since those teenage years. It's incredible to see how much has changed and yet how much still feels the same. Incredibly, this Walgreens is still there in Lincolnwood, IL on Lincoln and Pratt avenue!
I did not know this, but Walgreens is the 3rd largest company headquartered in Illinois, and even bigger than McDonald's. Just a bit of history: Founded in 1901 by Charles R. Walgreen in Chicago, Walgreens has grown to become one of the largest pharmacy chains in the United States. From a single store, it expanded its reach, providing pharmaceutical services, health and wellness products, and consumer goods. Over the years, Walgreens has also introduced services like walk-in clinics and vaccinations, continuing to innovate and serve communities across the country.
Thanks for joining me as I walk down memory lane, exploring the aisles of my old workplace, reminiscing about the good old days, and reflecting on how far Walgreens has come.
