  • Welcome to Morton Grove, IL! Just a few miles from Chicago, this small but charming town has its own unique attractions. One must-visit spot is Pequod’s Pizza, famous for its deep-dish pizza and topping lists like Yelp’s 100 Best Pizzas in America and USA TODAY’s Best Pizza in Chicago. I will do another video specifically inside Pequod's Pizzeria, but for now, lets absorb the ambiance of Morton Grove.
A bit of history: Morton Grove’s early inhabitants saw vast prairies of tall grasses and wildflowers, left by retreating glaciers. The fertile land soon attracted farmers. In the 1830s, the Chicago River powered the area’s first sawmill, and farmers used Miller’s Mill Road (now Lincoln Avenue) to transport produce to Chicago. When the railroad arrived in the 1870s, it boosted trade and development. The village was named after Levi Parsons Morton, a railroad financier who became U.S. Vice President.
By the 1890s, greenhouses had made Morton Grove the world’s largest floral business, with the Poehlmann brothers winning first place for their roses at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.
The village continued to grow through the 20th century, welcoming home World War I veterans and transforming farmland into a small airfield from 1919 to 1932. Despite the Great Depression, Morton Grove prospered post-World War II, with its population soaring from 2,010 in 1940 to 20,533 in 1960, and 23,270 in the 2010 Census.
From Native Americans and French traders to European farmers and modern residents, people from diverse backgrounds have called Morton Grove home, all pursuing the American Dream. Enjoy exploring this historic and vibrant village!

At one time I lived in Skokie/Morton Grove. Some 39 years ago. It has gotten larger.
