All the Rocktron distortions and overdrives I have tried are wonderfully quiet compared to many others. Perhaps the creators of Hush tech know a thing or two about all that.
I like both pedals. It's just a matter of different flavors of distortion. The Metal Planet is similar to a british high gain distortion and the Zombie is like a rectifier distortion.
Zombie defiantly has the Rectified-type of sound that I like. But... I'm leaning towards the Metal Planet because of the mid controls. I find those to really pull out the versatility in your sound. Both have a place on my pedalboard, that's for sure.
Hey,,,, I've been using the metal planet for some good years... with an eq pedal, it's a monster... But because of my freaking GAS problem, I ordered a Zombie too... hahaha
After watching many videos on the zombie and comparing it to the boss metal zone (which is what i had) i like the zombie better than the metal planet. better tone adjustment, good crunch, and the name is awesome too. since getting one, i have no need for any other distortion. this does everything i could ever want a distortion pedal to do. thanks tone king.
Totally agree with the metal planet sounding classic metal, and the zombie sounding new metal... I'd have to choose the zombie, simply because I prefer heavier distortions... and that stare dial...
I have the zombie pedal. It's not what I expected really and I just leave the stare at 0 and its just like a normal pedal. You can turn the stare up a bit though and it actually makes a really excellent boost pedal.
Planet Metal for me. Is it good for drop tune metal? I play in drop d alot. (D-e). Thanks. The price for Planet Metal isn't bad either. I like the design on it too. *Space nerd*. xp
I own both pedals and to be honest the medal planet sounds like a keeley mod metal zone. Very smooth and bright but it sounds too muddy played live with a band. The zombie sounds very nice and dark. Good for gigging, but over all I still would use a metal zone. lol!
I have really like both these pedals TK.and I liked the Reaction pedals you reviewed. They look good quality solidly built pedals and they sound great.I'm just surprised that they are not more high profile in the fx market along with other names like Boss,MXR,Digitec and others like that.
TK! How would the zombie sound on a Solid State amp? :/ I'm saving for a Bugera 6260 but til then I need a good metal tone pedal for really heavy stuff in metal core. Thanks.
- Loved the Zombie sound... I may have to pick one up. Becoming a bigger fan of Rocktron all the time. I have the Tsunami Chorus (discontinued) and the Metal Planet. I picked it up real cheap off eBay and have not regret it. But to be fair, he didn't adjust the EQ so much on the Metal Planet. I'm thinking this wasn't a level matchup for that reason. Try one out and screw around with the EQ. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you could coax a Zombie tone out of the Metal Planet ;)
Zombie, dude. The Stare switch can suck out the mids so your singer won't ruin is vocal cords. And it won't challenge your drummer and cause him/her to bash the cymbles too hard.
the zombie meant to get sound of reciter out of tube amp. i hade it for over 4 yrs now was going to sell it but i seen it today decided to plug it in dam was i impressed farther more if have two channel amp it can sound very close to mesa/ rec tone. you gota due some tweaking if u a gota tube amp and want that mesa kind of tone buy the zombie. bear in mind it's meant for high gain kind sound on mesa/rec amp tk right sounds best with stair in middel to my ears
TTK, YOU NEED TO USE THE ZOMBIE WITH A ALL TUBE AMP, IT MAKES A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE IN TONE, IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH A ALL TUBE AMP, TOO TECHNICAL TO EXPLAIN HERE BUT I TRYED WITH BOTH AND IT DOES NOT SOUND NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD WITH A SOLID STATE AMP, ITS OK WITH A SS AMP, BUT WITH AN ALL TUBE AMP YOU WILL SWEAR YOU PLUGGED INTO A REAL DUAL REC!
@MajesticJesusPirate Did you not get the whole 30 PEDALS in 30 DAYS thing. These are also, as I understand it, donated for this series. Therefore TTK has been asked to include the above average selection of distortion pedals. Just Grin and bear it. BTW send me a link of your mosh pit generating hello kitty guitar playing. This I have to see. \m/.

I love how this video has some of the nicest gear you can get at the time yet the intro still sounds like it was made on a line 6 spyder
Love the "Zombie"! Sounds just like an overdriven rectifier! Nice and thick!
I like both pedals. It's just a matter of different flavors of distortion. The Metal Planet is similar to a british high gain distortion and the Zombie is like a rectifier distortion.
Nice demo!I used to have a Zombie, and I loved it. Try a setting with all knobs pointed at the blue light (but trim the volume).
wow man, the day before this video I ordered a used Metal Planet (30 bucks!). coincidence? lol
Zombie defiantly has the Rectified-type of sound that I like. But... I'm leaning towards the Metal Planet because of the mid controls. I find those to really pull out the versatility in your sound. Both have a place on my pedalboard, that's for sure.
I like both! Different ends of the metal spectrum, both good!
Hey,,,, I've been using the metal planet for some good years... with an eq pedal, it's a monster... But because of my freaking GAS problem, I ordered a Zombie too... hahaha
"I got big hands.. BOOM!" I don't know why but that really made me laugh.
Just bought a Zombie based on this awesome demo.
Metal Planet is out of this world!
I have a zombie and I love it, it had a really good crunchy, angry sound
The Zombie is more for me but both are good. That's why I have been a Rocktron guy for years.
Hi everybody, this guy is quiet cool! I have the Rocktron Zombie pedal...I love this padal! - Pure POWERAGE!!!
I had both of these, but now I just have the metal planet which means I like it better.
Totally agree with the metal planet sounding classic metal, and the zombie sounding new metal... I'd have to choose the zombie, simply because I prefer heavier distortions... and that stare dial...

METAL PLANET by Rocktron
Love to hear the Zombie pushing the front of an Plexi!
Planet Metal for me. Is it good for drop tune metal? I play in drop d alot. (D-e). Thanks. The price for Planet Metal isn't bad either. I like the design on it too. *Space nerd*. xp
Between this two - Metal Planet. More powerful sound, while Zombie has annoying highs. Great comparison, thanks!
I own both pedals and to be honest the medal planet sounds like a keeley mod metal zone. Very smooth and bright but it sounds too muddy played live with a band. The zombie sounds very nice and dark. Good for gigging, but over all I still would use a metal zone. lol!
I liked the lower tones of the Zombie. I like a lot of crunch and treble, but if there's no bass to it can sound annying and ear peircing.
I like the zombie. By the way, boys and girls.. I just bought the Rocktron V50D Amp. It may be solid state, but it kicks some serious ass.
I have really like both these pedals TK.and I liked the Reaction pedals you reviewed. They look good quality solidly built pedals and they sound great.I'm just surprised that they are not more high profile in the fx market along with other names like Boss,MXR,Digitec and others like that.
The Zombie is just freakin brutal to my ears!
TK! How would the zombie sound on a Solid State amp? :/ I'm saving for a Bugera 6260 but til then I need a good metal tone pedal for really heavy stuff in metal core. Thanks.
The black pedal has the same control of the Metal Zone !!

Both are very good, but so far the ToneBone has it IMO.
METAL PLANET
Tone king your thae man can you please do a comparason on the boss robert keeley metal zone vs the rocktrone zombie?
Which pedal would be better to get the five finger death punch sound?
Zombie with the gain all the way at 0 and the stare at about 11 o'clock
Season bass and treble to your guitar
Zombie, dude. The Stare switch can suck out the mids so your singer won't ruin is vocal cords. And it won't challenge your drummer and cause him/her to bash the cymbles too hard.
Sir is that a bufferedbypass or truebypass?? thank you sir. nice demo sir. cheers!
Zombie get's my vote! Good video TK :-)
seriously how do you get those bends at 8:56 to sound thick? also at 9:02?
Holy sh*t I'm not trying to be mean but he sounds like mike wazowski.

I woner how it will go with a 6505? Would be good to have a good rectifier tone to mix it up with..

Both are awesome! Why is Rocktron not gi-normous?
Zombie distortion seemed to my ears better.
De quien es el riff a partir del minuto 5:30?
both are awesome, but i like the zombie more
Zombie for me and i agree kamaboko1, the Radial Plexitube was unbelievable, the best so far!!!
@MajesticJesusPirate - so says the guy with the Hello Kitty guitar... *rolls eyes*
liked the zombie
Rocktron Zombie... !
Rocktron
I want to win one of those bad boys pedals instead of sponsors gear )))
The Zombie fucking Rules!! \m/
I prefer the Zombie !
Zombie gets my vote.
