Awesome, thanks for sharing! It's better to used almonds without the skin as it's full of tannin. You could place the almonds in a blender with the alcohol for 30 seconds and let it sit for the prescribed time and then strain. You'd probably get a higher yield. Dehydrate the almond pulp and use the almond flour for baking biscotti. You could do the same with the coconut.
Naomi, thanks for the info.
Being frugal and cooking abundantly is important to me as well.
I could almost smell those extracts. They are beautiful!
Right?! So fun to make Steph.
Weve done our own vanilla, and we were just talking a couple hours ago about making or own almond extract.
Yum!
A way that we live cheaply is by making our own pizza dough. It costs less than a dollar to make compared to buying pizza pies for $10 & up. Cam batch makes the dough, portions out ten pizza pie doughs at a time, wraps it up and puts it in the freezer. If we want pizza, we put the dough in fridge to defrost to be ready for dinner the next day. ALSO, making our own marinara sauce. Same concept.
That is a great idea/tip Theresa. Can I talk about it and of course give you credit when I do!
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az we would love that! We have a recipe / video up on the channel too in case anyone wants to make it.
For the almond this will be a very mild flavour. You need to use apricot kernels. Other pits may work as well but not as strong as apricot kernels. Look up noyaux.
I'm definitely going to pick up the ingredients to make these extracts this week. Thank you!
Thank you Sandi, this is excellent!
Hey Sheila, fun and easy to make and use!
This is Sooooo interesting. Your extracts are beautiful. I was told I could not make Almond extract with almonds (only with apricot kernels). I will definitely give your almond extract a try. Thank you
Thank you for this simplified, basic instruction without a ton of wasted words and nonsense. I’m going to try my hand at all three. TYVM!
I did the cinnamon extract and it was dynamite. Half a teaspoon in a cup of coffee is super
This is WONDERFUL!!! Thank you for another amazing video.
Hi Belinda, thanks, yes extracts are easy and so good.
Thank you for sharing.
I can’t believe how easy that is!! Definitely gonna make all three!!!!
So easy Madeline
Thanks again I'm gonna be doing these and cocoa nibs ,orange ,lemon . I'm gonna start making candied citrus peel and candied cherries its all got to be so expensive plus I like fruitcake all year long.
They look so good! I can’t wait to try making some.
Hi Shelly. So good!

That is so easy to do!! I need to find some coconut and almonds and get started!

My Uncle Suds who grew up in Ohio, spent the last thirty years calling Yuma home year round. He served in the USMC for thirty years before moving there. My aunt still lives in Foothills. Nice videos.
Hi Bob. We really like Yuma. Thank you.
Great ideas. I have mine started.
Wonderful!, I'm baking this weekend with all three and will give an update
I can’t wait to try the cinnamon extract!
Making cookies
I'm definitely making the cinnamon extract! Not big on coconut or almonds, but I bet they do smell wonderful too!
Debbie, it smells delicious.
💛
Thank you for sharing! Going to try these!
Hope you enjoy! I am baking this weekend with them. I'll give an update.
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az can’t wait!😊
👍
Thanks Peg
So want to try these! Great Tutorial 🥰 Good extract is expensive, especially when you go thru vanilla the way I do, lol. God Bless!
Thank you so much 🤗
Now for vanilla!! Love the smell!!
Awesome
I have to do these extracts. Thank yog.
Awesome, thank you. Baking with them and will do an update.
Love this and going to try the cinnamon!
Awesome, thanks Amilynn.
I did what is called floral bouquet or/aka wedding bouquet extract which is citrus, almond, and vanilla...it sounds strange but it is so amazing for cakes and cookies...I save all different citrus peels and freeze them til I am ready to make my extracts...I use lemon, lime, orange, tangerine, and grapefruit ...saving the peels when we eat the fruit...it makes the most amazing citrus extract....I make the almond, vanilla, and citrus extract then mix it in equal parts...I recommend everyone this floral bouquet extract...I also made edible rose extract which is used in Greek pastry like Baklava. just use pesticide-free edible roses the hips and petals
That is amazing! I would love to try your recipe.
Just read this and it sounds so amazing. I’m going to make this one of my winter projects.
I have been wanting to vanilla extract for a whild. On my long to do list. I may try one of these others too. Hello Sandy.
Hi Gail. The cinnamon smell filled the kitchen, amazing.
Great tips. I would love the cinnamon one.
Christy and Chris, the smell filled the kitchen.
Hi Sandi! I actually got the cinnamon stick you show at the end from Amazon for my extract. Going to try soon. I want to try orange extract too. From my wonderful orange tree, or what is left of it after the deep freeze we got here. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I am starting orange, lemon and grapefruit extract. I will make mint this spring.
Hey Sandi Joe hope you guys are doing well today it’s starting to get WARM OBOY lol can’t wait to get out side ok love you guys Take Care..❤️🙏👍☮️
Hi Randy. Are you guys going to get this new storm that is hitting the midwest? Will to move towards you. Be careful.
I've started saving empty maple syrup bottles to store my extracts. Much easier to control than a mason jar.
Awesome idea.
Very cool. . I'll have to show my wife.
Hi Brian, thank you.
I bet the cinnamon tastes awesome! Love me some titos lol
Hey Kevin!!! The Cinnamon smell was so amazing while I was pouring it!
Have you made the lemon or orange extract? Enjoyed the Vanilla Extract planning to make when I obtain the Madagascar Vanilla Bean.
I am going to make them this winter in AZ as I can pick the citrus off the trees.
Lovely will try, Laura m from Rockaway Park, New York P.s. how long can I keep.
Hi Laura, it will keep really forever. The alcohol preserves it.
great video! if i have an almond allergy, will I be allergic to almond extract?
We LOVE Tito’s!!!
Wondering if you’ve made anise extract. I may have missed a post, so I’ll have to look in your video files. I’d love to make some because it is so expensive. I’m Hispanic and live in New Mexico. Our state cookie is the biscochito. I prefer using anise extract instead of the seed, so making my own would save me money. Thank you for this wonderful channel and all of your wonderful videos.
I will have to do some research about the anise extract. Thank you.
Something tells me it would be using star anise or whole anise seed.
Wow you make it look so easy. What would you use if you wanted a non achol type?
so easy
Vegetable glycerin
Sandi, how long of a shelve life on these extract good for....just wondering. I can see my self making the vanilla because I use that a lot, but the others...I do not use that often. This was a amazing video and never done almond or coconut before...thank you for sharing 👍😁💗
If you strain them Mary, it is like vanilla and they will last for years.
So simple. Sound amazing. Need to give this a try. Thanks for sharing
Hope you enjoy, so easy to make.
Is this merhod safe for candle making
Please share the recipes using recycled extract ingredients. Thanks!
Great idea, I will Pammy.
I don't know if I missed it but how long does this extract last? I assume it doesn't go bad because the vodka but does it lose its flavor quality or potency?
I would love to hear the taste results 🥰
Gabriele, I'll do an update.
I had no idea you can use vodka to make your own extracts. I can’t wait to try this. So does it taste like vodka at the end or just what you added to it ?
When you cook with it the alcohol is basically gone, you taste the extract.
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az that’s fantastic. I’m going to try this!
💖👼🏻🌺
Did you get all of your gifts yet?
thanks for this video! Do these not need the wax paper, unlike the vanilla extract?
They are faster Joel, so I didn't use the wax paper.
Good morning, Sandi!! I was wondering if I can use organic coconut chips. Please help!!! Thank you!
Deena, I would think you could use the chips.
Thank you, Sandi!
Oh Sandi, help! I was sent the coconut flakes instead of the chips. Can I use the flakes!
@@deenayb1 flakes will work
What is the shelf life on the extracts?
I don't use extracts that often it would have to last quite awhile for me.
The alcohol preserves it so really forever.
Can I use them like in spray bottles? Cuz I would like to use them to spray my room to smell beautiful
I am not sure, I wouldn't spray on fabrics as it may leave marks or be sticky.
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az 😕
Hi Sandi! I ordered the coconut chips and they sent me the flakes instead. Can I use the flakes? Please help! Thank you very much!!!
Yes use the the flakes
How about pecans. I have hickory nuts. What do you think?
that would be interesting to try.
What happened to the wax paper ?
I tried it with out as they are only in those jars for 6 weeks.
So simple! I'm definitely going to try this. Question: Why do these extracts take only 3 months before you're able to use them and vanilla takes 18 months?
They are just different. It also depends on how much you use in the ratio.
I thought the skin on the almonds would make them bitter and I got the blanched ones.
It doesn't seem to be bitter. Maybe it depends on the almonds.
How do you make lemon extract
Same with the peel of the lemon. working on doing lemon, orange, and grapefruit extract.
That is a briliant idea!
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az But how long do you leave those in? Cos the vanilla was 2 years, but this one 6 weeks..... (also why? and what if you just leave these in longer? Will they go bad or get too strong?).
@@carollollol Different recipes, different items. I have left the almond in longer and it was fine.
Isn't the flavor of the almonds and coconut depleted of flavor after making the extract? I'd be worried about reusing the products only because of the flavor loss.
Esther, I will use the extract in the recipes also.
I live in Phoenix and I've been making Extracts since 1977. I still have my first batch of Vanilla Extract going. All my "Mother batches" are still active. I only do Organic & PURE Extracts. But this is not how I do mine. My Almond is never cloudy like this.
I also use fresh organic coconut, not the dried kind.
I would have like to find some fresh organic coconut but there was none available.
@@suburbanhomesteaderwy-az - I got my coconut from a store in the Phoenix Metro Area called AJ's, and I've seen them at Sprouts and Trader Joe's from time to time. Believe me when I say the fresh is always the way to go. I used a potato peeler and also a spoon to scrape it out like you do a pumpkin. Kinda hard to bust open though and break it into chunks.
Try making MINT Extract next. It is fantastic. Use fresh organic mint. just smash on the stems [not the leaves] a little with a teaspoon, on a piece of parchment paper, and put the entire sprigs into the jar and cover it like you usually do. Use enough to take you around 3/4ths the way up your jar, but not packed in solid. Give them a little seeping room..
Remember the longer you let your batches macerate the lower the alcohol content. That is why 6 months to a year is recommended for extracts to age out properly.
@@ms.farmgirl I thought I would do the mint this spring. I grow spearmint, peppermint and apple mint.
Dies the vodka affect kid
Hello sweetie pie, I’m still going extract crazy 😜 , Just wanted to say hello again, Stay blessed my love stay strong, stay beautiful and stay in love with the lord with I know you Definitely will. 😂👩🏾🦲😜😍
Thank you Mary. Blessings to you.
That Vietnam cinnamon is loaded with liver toxins...and an extract of that who knows? Ceylon cinnamon has least liver toxins, while cassia cinnamon has more liver issues; but Vietnamese cinnamon, though taste the best is 60 times harder on liver than cassia, which in turn, is 20 times harder on the liver than Ceylon cinnamon. Also, the tight wound cinnamon sticks from Mexico are of the Ceylon variety, whereas the loose wound cinnamon sticks are of the cassia variety.
So does the vodka help with the toxins?
Almond extract is NOT made with actual almonds. That’s not gonna turn out.
Almond is not made out of almond?
@@DistopiaKosaki no it’s made from the pits of stone fruits
@@RebelCanners well you can still get a more natural flavor with almonds
@@DistopiaKosaki actually no you won’t it will not turn out at all
It's made both ways- google it- I prefer Sandy's way cause if too much is used of the "pit method" it can be toxic- This will turn out👍
I'm definitely going to pick up the ingredients to make these extracts this week. Thank you!
Hope you enjoy
