I was at the range last week and for the first time really got the throwing technique down. Great ball flight, much longer and best part of all, after 120 balls i barely felt like I had been hitting any. The smoothness and effortlessness of the technique just makes it an awsome feeling. Having played golf for 7+ years at this point, this was easily my best range session ever... BUT! I had that feeling afterwards that Im sure many can relate to; "can I replicate this next time?" And sure enough, in my two times at the range since then I have struggled alot. Im getting a steady mix of hooks and shanks that I cant seem to get out of.. But I know that from now on there is no other way I wanna play golf so I will keep grinding in order to find my way back to that time when everything clicked, and make sure thats how my swing will be from now on! This video will surely help.
Hi Mike. Love your videos for their clarity and practicality. I've searched thru your videos and I can't find one dedicated to how drivers works and how to hit them. Maybe a future video? The.
Throwing is working really well for me. The only issue is, I don’t know how to pitch 30-50 yards with a throw. I feel like a throw works well for a full swing.
Hinge the club going back and throw with the right hand coming down .. #philmickelson -hinge&hold- But you don’t hold with the right hand you #throw with the right hand thru impact . #probsolved 20-60yards 👍🏽🏌🏽♂️⛳️ #goodluck
I've just started the pulling method and it has helped me tremendously as i used to be a hitter or pusher. Now i get more hooks but they are easier to control. You have explained what many of us struggle with and now we can watch the pro's and know what they are doing. Sometimes people just say things that put the swing into a different perspective, thanks so much for sharing great content.
Wow...MIke, so glad to see you're back! Hope all is well with you and we can see your videos again regularly again. I am a senior and switched to be a "thrower" last year. A "puller swing" was messing up my back and rib cage too much. Still a work in progress after 30 yrs of playing. Would you consider doing a video exclusively for "throwers" and elaborating on important motions in the "throwers" swing? I think most seniors and mid-older age amateurs are "throwers". Young and very fit players are probably pullers. NIce to have you back. 😀
Yes. Would like to see that. I think there is a lot of puller info out there as that's what a lot of young guns seem to do... :) Not so much info out there on a throwing sequence.
mike, very interested in throw method but would like some direction on the left arm. is it straight or bent as the right arm? complete set up and swing would be helpful.
Great video’s Mike, am learning a lot. Question: you describe Vijay Singh as a thrower, not a puller…yet his right hand comes off the grip close to impact! That doesnt seem like a thrower move. Also he advocates a drill holding the club with the left hand only, with right hand holding left forearm to brace it. Looking forward to your thoughts.
I do think it's a bit of both really , but depending on your flexibility you might end up throwing a bit more with your trail arm than pulling with your left. I suspect the best way is to try perpetual swinging without any strain and you will find the best balance between both.
The ONLY 2 things he gets wrong is why 'throwers' produce draws: (1) They hit draws because the throwing action is down/out on the plane angle (2) Right Arm Swinging (Throwing) does not require bigger/higher arms. Other than those 2 things this is great. Homer Kelly's The Golfing Machine covers this topic (right arm swinging) quite thoroughly but is difficult to understand for most golfers. People like this gentleman here, Cooper Osborne and Tom Tomasello demonstrate (right arm swinging) AKA throwing quite well. There are other throw type releases as well so a world of fun to discover.
seems like throwing in your example is happening pretty late Mike? What about those Pros telling you to throw like fishing allready from the top of the swing? Is that also a potentially good solution Mike?
I'm left handed play golf right handed. I throw with my left hand and my right hand comes off the club after impact ( and if I choose, I can pull with my right side) why do you say that I must pull with left side instead of throwing with left?
What about both? I'm left handed, play golf right handed. I pull, but I also extend my right forearm in the downswing towards the ball, right into the slot, for great ball impact and fade correction (similar to tossing a ball at the ball, advocated by many.) The arm is still slightly bent at impact. See 5:50 here ruclips.net/video/WAls-tv2NGg/видео.html
Throwing the club is way superior, less effort, more distance, beautiful bay draws ,it does however require a special technique not all people can master consistently ,hence why most golfers use the pull technique
Puller is a swinger, takes alot of maintenance. Thrower is a hitter, much easier for the weekend golfer. Either method practice that compression, very powerful.
At age 77 I have become an accurate puller of the golf club, but no way in the manner of which you speak. Allow me to explain myself The handle will come automatically forward if the golfer allowed for the centrifugal force of their revolving rib cage to lead the club head to the center of their swing. If you recall. Percy Cooper spoke of swinging in a barrel. I now suggest the so call barrel is the rolling rib cage of our bent chest. So let the good times roll. During the down swing my hands will come forward of the club head swinging through the ball due to the centrifugal force of my turning my rib cage and and the pulling power of all the collective muscles inside my body. When it comes to golf; no matter how you feel you are swinging your club: Don’t worry Swing Happy😊Cheers😊🥂👍
Throwing works for me, but pulling works better. I’ve spent years doing both and mix and matching. Find what works best then stay away from instruction teaching the other method.
This is so not true! How come he does swush the club left handed!? Reason the swush is easier but he stops. Pull you don’t pull the club forward you rotate or just turn towards the target and the arm club unit will catapult!!
Wow the single best video on RUclips that helped revitalize swing, I’ve always been a puller, have to learn to throw
Thank you for this great information. I just found out that I’m definitely a puller. Golf just got easier and more fun. Great content!
Ha. I meant thrower! Definitely not a puller.
I've never thought about the golf swing this way. Fantastic.
Many thanks for this video as it helped me realize that i was trying to mix the 2 ways very ineffectively. Will practice as a thrower from now on.

Best explanation that I've seen. Well done.... makes perfect sense and glad I watched
Best instructor on You Tube. I’m a low handicapper and I like his concepts.
Glad to see you back! Hope all is well.
Great video, thank you!
I worked in the bag room at Quail Creek for a minute back in 1992.
Can you make another video identifying who are the throwers and the pullers on tour. Thanks
Mike is back after a long absence!
I only discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and you already improved my game. Great to see more content!

Use the clock system mate or quarter swings

Hi Mike, thanks for posting this video and breakdown! In the Thrower golf swing, how do you avoid chunking for fatting a shot without weight transfer?

I’m right handed but find I hit it better with more speed pulling.
Thanks for confirming it’s ok to be a puller .

Excellent. If I’m a thrower does the trail hand control the backswing and fire in the downswing. Enjoyed your videos. 😊

Just found this channel. Is there any advice for throwing with longer clubs? I have problems getting solid contact.

would you consider doing a Vijay Singh video analysis on throwing?
What do you do if you’re a thrower but the right takes over the left and you come over the top?
How about both a puller and thrower, a puller initially in the down swing and thrower just at impact and thru?

Different moves😊
Do you do in person lessons?

Is this an old video from last year that is just now being posted? I thought Dero retired from the golf business at the end of the year.
This is a new video, with a few more to come. Mike has not retired, just paused.
