  • Since it's the season for orchid variety, might as well take advantage of it and shop for some great Orchids!
    ▼▼▼More info below!▼▼▼
    Today I decided I will do an all Dendrobiums haul, shopping in my favourite flower shops. I came home with 2 Dendrobium nobile and 2 Phalaenopsis types!
    The nobile Dendrobiums are clearly forced into blooming, since autumn is far from being their blooming season. More on this topic tomorrow though!
    One of the Phal Dendrobiums, the Polar Fire, is one I have been looking for for a long time! Love the gradient colors.

    I totally get what you mean by finding Dendrobium phal's pseudobulbs really attractive. I find they look like clusters of tiny palm trees 🌴 or bushes. So pretty! Thank you for this video! I've also been finding growing dendrobium phalaenopsis super easy and rewarding. I have plants both in semi hydro and others in conventional orchid organic medium and they all look stunning :)

    Nice haul, I really like dendrobiums. I prefer the nobiles (especially when they have that dark centre). They look mystical...

    How coincidental! I just got back from the flower shop after going back to grab a den. phal. I saw a week ago. I passed it up and talked myself out of it even though I really wanted it. I went out today and thought if it is sill there then it was meant to be. Luckily for me it was still there. This is one of the dens with a less round and more longer and narrower petals. This one is a deep velvety purple with an even deeper, fuzzier lip. It is also fragrant! Not super fill a room fragrant but not a cut grass fragrance either. It's a sweet floral perfume fragrance. That and the color are two of the reasons I just had to have it. I had a den phal I had that recently died. I suspect it was just a weak individual. It never did well while other dens I have thrived and even spiked. Hopefully this one is a healthier individual. It is a no name but it's so stunning I couldn't pass it up. Very happy day.
    I absolutely love that solar flare. Hopefully I run across something like that sometime.

    Your light pink nobile looks similar to mine, but I dont think its the 'wonderful romance'. Also my partner thinks it smells like latex gloves so probably not the same. 😂
    Love the flowers on the other nobile, wish my stores would stock more neat dendrobiums. 🙂

    In my country, Brazil, we call denphals or denphalen. Some people calls the dendobrium "eye of doll".

    Thanks for the clarification of the differences! I have a Dend. Burana that I haven't been sure if its Nobile type & will need winter rest - it just finished blooming, but I've had it for a year or more, so it hasn't been forced. So, would this be considered a Noblie type & need the winter rest?

    Hi! Question for you, I have a Dendrobium Nobile that has been in winter rest since November here in New England, USA. It's been exposed to temperatures down to 37 F, approx 3c. No sign of temperature damage, only lost a few leaves. I watered it 1x on a warmer day since the canes seemed more shriveled than they should have been. It's been plump and fine since, however I'm not getting any buds and it's almost February now. It's still getting temperatures down to 3c at night, 8c during the day and sometimes higher. Is this thing likely not going to bloom or do I need to wait longer?
    Thanks for your videos, I've learned a ton from you! Also, hope you're feeling better!

    I also have a polar fire dendrobium, but mine has a gradient from the purple to a very light green.
    Also is it normal for dendrobium phals to dry out from the flower spike down? My second one is doing that right now and lost all it's flowers. I don't know if the spike will grow back from the same bulb or not.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  6 лет назад

      +ShinyRayquaza hi, no the spike will dry out when it's done blooming, the cane will remain green and could rebloom :)

    Do you offer any paid consulting services for orchid care? Forums have only taken me so far. Would be happy to pay for a "class" or consultation to save my peristeria elata.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  6 лет назад +1

      Hi, no I don't offer paid consultancy, but I hope you find some answers in my videos :) I don't have any experience with peristeria though, so not sure how I can help.

      MissOrchidGirl No problem. It's mostly its roots. I'm very disappointed with the shape the roots were in when shipped to me. Theres...rotting problems, dried out roots, algae growing, and fuzzy mold growing on top.
      I'm pretty sure I saw some videos on helping orchids grow roots. I'll check those out. Thank you!
