    Flow rate is going to be depended on the loop, even a pump into itself will have to fight elevation rise. I expect the specs on the pump are with it pumping into atmosphere giving no restriction as you are making the pump push up the height of the reservoir. It also seems you don't know the use case for the two pumps. DDC offers a high head pressure - allowing for more friction in the loop which can be caused by rise, bends, or additional components. D5 allows for faster flow, this is advantageous if you aren't fighting friction and have more area to dissipate head (larger radiator or multiple radiators typically).

  • @WolfA4
    @WolfA4 9 месяцев назад

    I would expect the pressure to be more impactful than actual flow rate, and not necessarily in terms of heat dissipation but more for it's ability to overcome bends in any given loop.

    • @DealUnboxing
      @DealUnboxing  9 месяцев назад

      Both are important because flowrate helps with moving the heat away from the CPU block fast.

    • @WolfA4
      @WolfA4 9 месяцев назад

      @@DealUnboxing IIRC the heat energy essentially propagates through the water is at the speed of light. The transfer of heat from metal to the water is what takes the most time. The flow of water just needs to be such that you aren't relying on convection to transfer heat. Sorry for the sloppy language it's kinda of because this is just a youtube comment.
      Also take the D5 pump for example, at 1000 l/h flow rate that means every second any given quantity of about 277 ml will travel through your water block. I haven't measured it, but I bet the quantity of water in your waterblock is less than 277 ml.

    You say one flow rate for DDC, but show another. Which is it?
    Otherwise, it's expected that they wouldn't achieve the specified flow rate, as this specification is at zero head pressure. In any realistic system, this is not the case. But the combination of head pressure and zero head flow rate give a pretty predictable P-V curve, that one can use to estimate the actual flow (if dynamic flow restriction pressure is taken into account.).

    Does D5 pump really makes more noise then DDC pump? With full load both must be noisy, but what is the sound level in idle?

    • @DealUnboxing
      @DealUnboxing  9 месяцев назад

      Pretty quiet from my perspective

    • @m1nusasusplus897
      @m1nusasusplus897 7 месяцев назад

      It is different signature of sound, I run both in one loop D5 (from Aquacomputer) and then DDC (4.2 original from Hungary) (): D5 has very low level sound "whoa", DDC has sound with more high frequency like mosquito or bee, when you run them on low level - you will not hear it anyway, but for 60+% I would prefer DDC.

    The problem with D5 vs. DDC has never been about flow rates and temperatures, but rather their durability under continued use. Things may have changed since the early days of watercooling, but back when I started with his hobby around 2008, the DDCs had much higher failure rates than D5s due to their construction and poor heat dissipation. As for the D5s, although they are mostly reliable (I have one that's been used daily for over 12 years) they can get quite loud, becoming very audible in an otherwise quiet system.

      yes stock ddc has worse housing and as a result worse heat dissipation, also worse restrictive top with 90 degree angled inlet. But nobody uses stock ddc housing and stock top, so there is no problem. We use modern aftermarket metal housing with thermal pads for ddc pcb. Also we add aftermarket ddc top with inlet that goes straight to the middle of the ddc impeller.

    • @DealUnboxing
      @DealUnboxing  8 месяцев назад

      it would be same for D5, the more stuff you add in the loop, it effects the flow.

      Need to buy original DDC from Hungary from EK for example, I have complicated big loop with external radiator, one D5 gives 110L, DDC 180L, both in quiet mode - 220L.

    • @ryanreynolds2401
      @ryanreynolds2401 Месяц назад

      @@DealUnboxing Yes, but that is the actual interesting comparison. DDC has a lower flow rate, but a higher pressure. Theoretically the DDC would be less impacted by the addition of additional flow restrictors such as GPU and/or quick disconnects. As you add components there will be a point at which the DDC pump will actually provide a greater flow rate than the D5. That was what I was hoping to see in this video as you made mention of testing pressure at the start.

    • @slipkn67
      @slipkn67 21 день назад

      bro don't use cheap Chinese ddc clones, try EK DDC 3.25 or any other DDC 18w version. In a restrictive loop it outperforms all D5 pumps including that crazy 24v D5.

    I think his flow rates are wrong lol. 1,000l/h+ with (1) D5? lol. I have (5) D5’s and get 500l/h with a calibrated Aquatuning flow meter.

    • @csabauri351

      Yep , that flow meter is 100% unaccurate . With the D5 it should have like 200LPH max with 1 cpu block and 1 rad . With DDC around 150-160LPH max. Btw i like ur videos ^^

      @@dan8t669 Wrong , all D5 are the same . And that 1800lph u are talking about is just a theoretical number . it means it can do 1800 without any restriction, but as soon as you add radiator or CPU block it's no longer true.

      you have more restrictive loop than on this video. He has only 1 waterblock on CPU and 0 gpu waterblocks. Radiators and tubing doesn't count, they add almost no restriction compared to waterblocks.
