I don’t understand why people think this way either. WHEN YOU PURCHASE ANYTHING IN LIFE YOU ARE PRIMARILY PAYING THE PREMIUM PRICE OF GETTING IT RIGHT THEN AND THERE. I hate the whole because I suffered you have to suffer to mentality. That’s not how life works. I blame retail stores for allowing people to price match items from other places that are cheaper etc. They are releasing stuff packs that no one is buying. It’s not like they are releasing expansion or game packs for free. Their stuff packs literally $10…you mean you’re complaining over $10. Times are hard but not that hard.

It's mostly the "I paid $1,000.00 for a game I can't play and now they're releasing a shit ton of that DLC for free in an attempt to placate their consumers who have spent a grand on this game and they can't play it" part.

    • @waduhmelun

its giving the 'bloxburg becoming free" fiasco. except bloxburg literally costs 25 cent and i know people-- and almost became this person myself, being confused as to why we wont get a refund. not only would that really harm the financial structure of the team behind the game, but 25 robux is almost the equivalent to a gumball. my point is, i agree with what you said about what you pay for is what you get. EA needs to apologize to us with actual fixes and by actually listening to what people have to say. not with all this free stuff or sales mess

I don’t care either way, but I get it. I have about 3/4 of the Sims 4 DLC. But I know there’s been like 2-3 separate occasions where they have released free packs that some of us have already paid for.
It just is what is, but it also opens up the opportunity for those who aren’t always financially prepared to buy DLC at any given time. However it still doesn’t change my sentiments about EA.
That said, I haven’t bought anymore sims 4 DLC for almost a year now. I put my money where my mouth is. The state of the game will never change until people start standing on what they’re saying.
Stop giving them your support, stop giving them your money. Which should be fairly easy to do considering how badly the game sucks anyway.

I'm a person of the opposite opinion, so I'll mention my thoughts here just to add to the conversation:
The Sims 4 and many stuff packs becoming free doesn't make me mad because other people get it for free when I had to pay for it, it's because they're only getting it for free as a part of EA's slimy and harmful business practice. The Sims 4 becoming free-to-play is one of the oldest tricks in the book to monetize purely off of DLC purchases, and EA has a long reputation of giving shopping addictions and gambling addictions to its playerbase; I, personally, was a victim of serious shopping addiction and FOMO when it came to the Sims 4 before the subsequent depression that it caused finally pushed me to stop playing the game after MWS released. The fact that EA only made the Sims 4 free because they knew they could get away with yet another microtransaction-filled exploitation factory of a game, and the fact that they *did* get away with it, is what bothers me.
Also, stuff packs are only becoming free right now to distract from the heat the community is giving them for Crystal Creations, the merch plug, and even the bugs that were being talked about before Crystal Creations. My problem isn't that other people get for free what I had to pay for, it's that the temptation of free content makes it so much easier for people who are prone to shopping addiction to slip into it with *yet another EA game*.
And I really don't like your comment of "Over $10? Times are hard but they aren't *that* hard", it's just a very ignorant comment to make. I can say that in my own situation, yes, my times *are* that hard, because I (and many others) wasted money on the Sims 4 without realizing that a few years later I would be stressing over money to the point where a single grocery store run to buy a carton of milk costs more money than I have available. In a world where local welfare offices can just decide to skip out on filling both February and March's food stamp money for people and get away with it, times for many people *are* that bad, and being in a situation of extreme poverty has given me the perspective that if I was able to refund the $1000+ I spent on the Sims 4 (a game that I didn't even like but was so addicted to that it literally became a crutch for and a cause of my depression), it could quite literally be a life-saver for me.
It isn't about other people getting for free what I had to pay for, it's about EA putting a carrot on a stick and seeing people online leap at it with arguments and statements like "it's free now, no use in crying over it" when we *should* be putting more pressure on EA to be consumer *friendly*, not fight against the consumers who are angry at a bloodsucking corporation.

Watching them release DLC for free *when the majority of their player base can't even play the $1,000.00 game they paid for* is insane.

    • @w0nderl4nd93
      @w0nderl4nd93 6 месяцев назад +20

Most people are angry becaues it is just unfair. I'm glad people can get these packs for free - but by engaging more players via this method, only proves the point - EA only cares about making more money. They don't care about the long-standing players who have dumped years of their lives and wallets into this game. They know they've pissed us all off. So they're going to try to bring in new players. Via free DLC. It's all a tactic that shows they *know* they've messed up. And every time I see them destroy this game > ignore simmers > make some shitty DLC pack free - it just further validates my stance.
tldr; I don't think anyone's upset about another person getting a game for free. My Wedding Stories still doesnt work. For Rent is still broken. Releasing free DLC when people have paid for broken packs is spitting in their paying customers faces. We're mad at EA. Not players for having access to a free pack.

I mean, it does seem to me that EA is trying do damage control with newer players that theoretically have less experience with how they treat their fanbase, since newer fans are less likely to own this pack, but there’s nothing wrong with taking the free pack either way. Do I wish they would give away a pack I don’t already own for once, or give us a free voucher to choose our own free giveaway/discounted content? Of course I do, yes

I think if the game was entertaining to play and well... working. People wouldn't be upset or complain about free dlcs. I personally compare it to Batman Arkham Knight, on the premier I paid for it full price of something around 70 dolars in my currency, but not long ago I've seen it on steam sale lowered to around 2 dolars. And I don't mind, since I paid more to play great game few years early.

I bought this pack YEARS ago, and I also bought My First Pet Stuff years ago too.
My First Pet Stuff also became free (or free to everyone who had pets) at some point. People bought that pack before it became free too.
I've played Backyard Stuff so much that it being free to others doesn't make me feel like I should've or could've gotten it for free.
But as for people who got it more recently, that's honestly just kind of.... How it works, as bad as that sounds. Like when you buy something right before it goes on sale. I thought it was pretty normal for old smaller DLC to become free or free for a limited time, I don't think that people should be complaining. Now the people who don't want to give EA their money can have another pack... Although at this point, who would want to play the latest version of The Sims 4 anyway?
I know it kind of sucks when the pack that you bought more recently goes on sale or becomes free, especially with the outrageous price of these packs, but in this case I find it to be a more normal thing that _could_ be excused for now... I don't think that people should be asking for a refund just yet, and asking for your money back as the immediate reaction or quickly after you see that the pack you spent money on (be it a week ago or like six years ago) is free to all now, just doesn't quite seem right to me.
Of course, it makes sense that people would act this way after all that EA has done - maybe that's what justifies them getting a refund, the things EA has done with and to The Sims 4 and it's community.
And it's theoretically possible that EA could give people a refund for this pack if enough people make a big deal about it.
So that's what I have to say just coming from this video - that's where I stand for now until somebody manages to convince me otherwise. Recap: I don't think that people should be complaining very much about this, maybe they should focus on other things like the game being broken and even boycotting buying Sims stuff or EA stuff altogether. Unless this is found to be a bigger issue, perhaps someone needs to point that out to me.

I play Sims since the first one. I used to buy almost every DLC till the bugs and everything got so bad. The problem for me with the freebies in the moment is EA.s fixation on new younger customers. Its of course understandable that EA has to widen its customer base, but they are doing this on the back of a fan base from decades. They gave away quite a few free packs in the last months. I assume to distract us with this nice shiny things. And it works, all creators now talk about the free new pack (I would too, I understand). Its controlling the news cycle. And even when I am happy for people that can get freebies, at the end I still have bugs, this freebies don't help me when I bought this already.I also think about the people that can not play at all because of bugs, this freebies must be a smash in the face. It is understandable to take the freebie and be happy about it, I would too, but its just a destruction and a tactic to bring the attention away from the problems. As a customer I have a right for a working product, when I would buy a TV and its not working, or it works only in Black and white than it would not help me when I would get a free DVD. But I learned my lesson, I will not buy new packs, I will wait till it is free.

To be fair enough it's a steal if you are new to the game or have not played it for a while, in theory you should have 3 dlcs installed Backyard stuff not that bad, Romantic Garden a good pack for your garden and My first Pet Stuff it's a bad pack without Cats and Dogs, otherwise it's an okay pack with cats and dogs.
But for veteran players like me it can go either yes I finally got it or get really salty and say " That should have been free, right off the bat ( at the first place)." I got every DLCS of the Sims 4, except the Star Wars game pack and the castle kit.

This is definitely an attempt to cover their asses, but I like free packs lol. The Sims should honestly start hiring modders since they don’t know how to make their game function properly. Modders have done more for this game than EA. They're more invested in letting the franchise die than improving the game. We had so many talented creators like Arnie, the creator of the open world, and I don’t understand why they just don’t hire them. Twisted Mexi has put out bug fixes faster than a billionaire company, and I find that hilarious. The biggest mistake The Sims 4 ever made was cutting corners, and they are paying for it now. If they leave The Sims 4 in the state it is, like The Sims Mobile, the franchise EA might just kill off their most successful franchise.

personally, i don't mind them giving away free stuff. if they want to make a paid thing free, that's their business. but my gripe is that it harms customer trust, which is already at an all time low! for context, if i am expecting to pay to receive a service but the service becomes free, it can be a little annoying but cause me to rethink purchasing from that company or service again because why would i pay for something now if i can wait a bit and expect it to be free later? as well as the flip side, people may expect packs to eventually become free as well, which is why i am iffy about the team continually making stuff free. this is why i think it's a little silly to be doing this as damage control when *people already have no trust in ea*. now they're making paid items FREE? i think it's less about making stuff free and more about the timing tbh

People need to get off their high horses and stop complaining, you purchased it when it was brand new or purchased before it went to be free..big..woop..no one owes you money back for purchasing this DLC. Geezus.

I mean I hate EA. But people wanting something to refunded after the company makes it free after a long time is weird. You paid fair and square and the company has the right to make their content free. A lot of companies do that. They offer old content free. But I mean I understand we all hate EA and they are just giving away free stuff to cool down the controversy about their awful DLC

    People wants free stuffs, sure.
I'll just watch on the side and laugh when they get into the experience of bug sh!thole and EA's greedy scheme we old players are in. Our advices were ignored, it's their choice to continue support EA's scheme, so it's their consequences.

Oh FFS they made something free that I already paid for. Honestly, I don't begrudge new players getting free sh*t but can I please get a refund on for Rent??? I'll never enable it again because I'm too afraid of it. Damn thing makes the game unplayable.
I've been watching comparison videos of the Sims versions and even though 2 avatars don't really appeal to me, the physics and detailed animation does. Makes 4 look like Sims 1. I'm going to try to find 2 and definitely going to get 3. Hopefully I can find all the EPs for both games. Then I can uninstall 4 and bitch about the $1k+ money I spent on it.
Also, if 4 is free, why aren't 2 and 3 free? That's part of EA I find ridiculous.

reminder that you can't legally get ts2 on windows unless it's secondhand disks, they no longer sell it digitally unlike ts3 which you can buy off ea themselves I believe (on whatever app they're using these days) and unless you're a collector it's not really worth it when you can just get the Starter Pack to grab the entire Ultimate Collection for you in like two hours max

@@Depressed_DandelionYou can legally get TS2…on Mac and only Mac. It’s not the Ultimate Collection but still its a completely legit legal way to have a copy of TS2 since Aspry has rights to the port for Mac, not EA.

I didn't suspect my comment would get highlighted 😅..but I definitely wanna add abit more context to why I have a problem. It's because it's free it's the fact that the game isn't stable enough to hold all the content that's available..I personally believe the foundation of the game should be stabilized before offering free dlc imo.

Why not bring the first two games in the series onto the store for free rather than just making sims 3 cheap. People prefer the Sims 1 and 2 over the Sims 4 and they’re not on any online store especially the first game which you have to pirate it to get it if you don’t have a physical copy of the game.

They're literally about to try and sell another version of Sims to people after charging $1200 for this one. When they abandon this THOUSAND dollar merchandise, to move on to expecting you to drop it all and start paying for the new game instead, they will have a few newer customers that only spent a slight amount, and will be much more willing to do that.
I never buy games out the door, and I never play pay-to-play games. I shouldn't have to subscribe to a product that I bought outright without being informed that i would be asked to continuously keep sinking money into it. I waited a decade to download this game, only after it was free. Since then I have only bought a handful of 60% off expansion packs over the course of 2+ years.... From taking advantage of all that was free since, I now have 25 of the packs, and I spent less than 100 on them. Someone like me might not mind rushing right over to start paying for a completely new product. But you know what? I still refuse to support Sims 5 when it releases even if the entirety of it is free, and the dlc is included in the base game.
I still need to get my money out of this one thanks.

So the pet combo packs were never available for everybody for free. I was kinda disappointed. I kept checking for weeks, i would've loved to have pets in game.
But it being free shouldn't matter. Ppl like me who was playing only on a pc that gave out & needing to switch to console, it was a relief tbh..... BC i prob wouldn't be playing now if i had to repurchase every single thing all over again

I'm not at all angry at the pack being free. Free packs is a very nice gesture, and helps unify the fandom. I am however rather annoyed the devs do this as a way to deflect from the problems of the horribly buggy Crystal-pack. Hey, thank you for the free stuff, but I'd rather have dev time spend their time and resources fixing the buggy packs!

I think it shouldn’t be free because it’s DLC, why tf wouldn’t I feel some type of way about buying my money and then them completely dropping it for free. Other games do it for the game not the DLC, I understand them giving huge sales but completely free is basically making the ones who bought it feel like they could’ve just not spent anything and got it.

I've been playing for a long time but can't afford all the packs. Just to costly. So I'm taking advantage of the free stuff. But will say I'd rather have my game working properly than a free pack I didn't own cause I wasn't interested in it then. I might have gotten it one day if the game worked right. I didn't get horse ranch but was forced to update my game. Wouldn't even let me play it from game on my home screen. After that update my game has been broken. So many glitches. Honestly don't even want horse ranch cause i have no interest in horses in the game. I like maybe three things from that pack and its from the build but. Cause they have some that look more cabin like than outdoor retreat which is a camping pack.

Wish they made free the dlc that I don't have lmfao. I used to be naïve and would buy and download every single piece they gave us until I realised it wasn't worth it. So if they gave for free old kits (which I have none of) or the few stuff packs I don't have, that would be mint

I can’t use my laptop at the moment so I’m on Xbox for now I’ll take it free. It’s another pack I can add to my Xbox without paying twice. Because I paid twice for some packs mainly expansions. More stuff is welcome. I’m not mad that I paid at all. People less fortunate than me get a pack for free. I’m not rich at all but I do have a lot of packs and I know that’s not obtainable for some simmers.

Unless you buy a house most things you buy will depreciate. At this point they have to do something to make up for their bad business practices and defective products so a discount makes sense for the company and the customer. What wouldn't make sense is doing nothing.

The free packs wouldn't be a major issue if the game wasn't so broken. So far I haven't seen anything from the Sims team that convinces me that they're committed to fixing these problems. They seem more interested in showing you the next new thing that they have been working on but not even acknowledging that there is a problem and that they should do better.
