    As I prepare mentally for the birth of my baby, I usually like to just jump into the birth footage on these vlogs, but something told me to stop and listen and I’m so glad I did. As a doula and woman about to give birth to my 5th baby, everything everything you said is what all mamas need to hear; mamas birthing for the first time, those yearning to redeem traumatic birth experiences, those fighting against the mainstream and media led mindset of birth as horrible pain that just need reminders of the joy and gift that birth is…. this is so healing and so truthful of a picture of birth. Thank you so much for your vulnerability and transparency. How loving of you to share in this way. You should really consider getting into childbirth education and birth doula work- women like you helping to nurture this way of thinking are so needed.

    Such strength and grace both in telling your story and in the birth footage, well done mama, what a beautiful home birth! Personally, I tend to go past 40 weeks. My first son was 41+1 born in a birth center, similarly to you my most pain free/hypnobirth experience. 9lb 2oz. My second son was 40+5, birth center, longer labor but shorter push time. 8lb 9oz. My third son was 41+6, born at home, shortest labor biggest babe at 9lb 10oz. Currently 26 weeks pregnant with likely our last baby, planning our second home birth. I think it is so vital to have full autonomy over what happens to you and to birth where you are comfortable. I’m so thankful my husband has been supportive of my less than conventional birth choices and I’m even more thankful for my beautiful healthy birth experiences. Our bodies are so incredible and capable. I love watching birth stories and really enjoyed yours. Thank you for how you champion and encourage trusting your own body. Has me feeling excited and honored to experience and surrender for a fourth time.

      I really want to do this with my children from now on. I’m due in 3 weeks and I’m going to have a midwife but some things have come up that I’ve realized I’d much rather just trust in God and my ability to grow and birth my babies on my own from now on. I just wonder how you went about newborn testing and making sure everything’s legal! I live in WA state for per say the PKU testing is mandatory unless you exempt yourself religiously. Did you take your babe to a pediatrician right after? That’s the only thing holding me back is it’s hard to find information on what to do shortly after the birth!

I have had so many disagreements with her already, so I'm undecided about calling them lol. I have a great doula though. If I do call the midwives it will probably be very late, hopefully too late for them too arrive on time. I don't want them here during labour. They've made it clear they will pike and prod whether or not I like it. My doula will happily toss them out for me though if I ask.

    Wow. What a warrior you are. Really inspiring birth and you handled it like a pro. I had my first birth in the hospital and on my own which was a big mistake. I basically waited until I was 7-8 cm dilated and then, walked to the hospital as it was close to my house. The doctors were extremely surprised that I was that far. The pain was manageable until I went in and started getting distracted, told what to do, what not to do, etc. I bet you if I stayed at home like you did, things would have turned out a lot better. With that said - he is perfect, and things did end well. It's just the ending was pretty traumatic as a whole bunch of nurses had to pull him out and I was rushed to start pushing before it was time. When I got to the hospital my body kind of shut down and refused to cooperate because the environment didn't feel safe for me. If I ever have kids again, the I would also love to do a home birth like you. You're extremely fortunate that you have had so much support. It's imperative. To have that support system in place. Really well-done Kate. You should be so proud of yourself.

I ended up going to a hospital because I couldn't pee so crazy...sounds weird. But it was my decision and I had autonomy and decided on a C-section after hours of no progress. The hospital experience was surprisingly very good too. Having a doula to be at my side and husbands side through it all was the best.

    So true about pushing. I haven’t yet been blessed with a child myself, but my best friend is a midwife and in her first year qualified she has had NO women tear! All because she’s started instructing women not to push and to just let their bodies do the work.
    Her university education didn’t teach her that, she learned from having a woman faint during labour and watching her body still deliver that baby despite her being unconscious and not pushing. Amazing what we are capable of and so sad that the natural process has been lost to the hospital system. We’re so in the dark about our own bodies these days!

      I used to always think abt nurses pressing woman's belly forcefully with woman lying flat speechless to bring baby out of her body, on who presses a cow's, lioness's, dolphin's , dog's belly in wild ???
      Who removes a baby out of thwir bodies by pulling out these animal's babies??
      Then without pressing on belly, or keeping legs locked in stirrups, and third party doing near some unknown thing (maybe pulling out or catching) near vulva , how come baby or eggs come in outside world in case of other animals or birds???
      Then when I saw animals giving birth on animals planet, I understood 'A baby ' comes out on its own because it is pushed by mother's uterine and vaginal contraction relaxation movement which happens by natural hormone influence not by pressing her belly vigoruosly up n down , and baby will simply a small jerk from vaginal muscles and fall out on bed on its own even if nobody 'Pulls it out or touch it or catch it'

I had a similar experience as I leaned into each contraction and my mantra was, I am not afraid! The most helpful thing was having my birth team coach me with my mantras some times I would call out, “talk to me” and then the flood of mantras and encouragement would ring out. It was beautiful! I conquered so many of my fears this times and empowered is the exact word I would use. I was so chatty afterwards like wow can you believe I just did that!! 😂

Nobody talking to me or monitoring me or taking me out of my zone. 👌😆 from the start of my contractions till I had her it was only 4 hours and I think it's cause I was at my house with only my two sisters and husband. And through every contraction I just repeated " relax and release" while taking slow deep breaths. I also did a lot of hypnobirthing and meditation while I was pregnant! My first baby was born in a hospital and I had a very bad experience. My home birth really healed me!

    Watching videos like these bring me such longing for that experience. And unfortunately such envy. I watched hours and hours of birth story videos while pregnant. They all looked and seemed so beautiful. Precious, special and emotional just like yours. I wanted that so much.
    But it just didn’t pan out that way for me. I’m one of those women who had a major disconnect all through pregnancy. It continued through labor as well, and I can best describe it as an outer body experience. I felt like I wasn’t there. Like I was watching it, and I was stuck in my own head with no control of my emotions. I was so hopeful baby would come, and it would suddenly be this rush of euphoria and love. That didn’t happen either. It took me so many months to bond with my baby. Now she’s 2. And I never take for granted one single moment when we feel connected, bonded, and in love. (Which thankfully is often) because it took us so long to get there. Babies read every emotion their mother omits. My inability to connect with her made her not connect with me. And the cycle continued for months.
    When we finally came together, it was such a beautiful thing. Stories like mine can be shameful for mothers to share and are not talked about often. It took me many searches to find blogs and articles of mothers who would talk about their similar experience. I speak of it here to give hope to anyone else it may happen to.
    I wanted what you have displayed in this beautiful birth video, yet my experience was so dramatically opposite. I would love to have a second baby to hopefully be able to experience traditional mother infant bonding. But it’s most likely not in my cards. Besides, my story with my daughter was written for us for a reason, and someday hopefully I will be thankful for it.

    Hi! I really enjoyed this video -- thank you for sharing such a vulnerable and beautiful birthing experience. I have a question: I understand baby needed some assistance in breathing. How did you provide that assistance? And why did you have to cut the umbilical cord sooner than you hoped? My understanding is that most babies will breathe immediately on their own upon birth, and sometimes not. Regardless, delayed cord clamping enables them to continue receiving oxygen from the placenta (should it still be attached to the uterus). If baby breathes immediately at birth (usually within ten seconds), the umbilical cord is still providing the baby oxygen and nutrients until that blood flow has stopped. Does this describe your experience?

In the meantime I really recommend taking some hypnobirthing tracks seriously! I used Kathryn Clark with Donovan & the Christian Hypnobirthing app this time around but a lot less consistently.
      Also just listen to that part of my birth here where I literally say, “I can do this.” to myself- and believe it for yourself as well! You can do this!! You can remain calm, relaxed and open in your upcoming birth.

    I had my daughter in a free standing birth center. I had a good experience, but I wish I did a home birth and allowed myself to take my time and labor the way I envisioned. I had a pretty easy labor, but it wasn’t fast and as my contractions were close together since 9 am that morning my midwife wanted me to come in. I went into the tub right away. I felt like everyone was waiting on me to do something. So instead of moving around, asking, squatting, letting baby come when the time was right; I let the midwife break my waters. I pushed partially sitting/laying on the bed (not what I wanted). So much happened that was not in my plan, I wish I could get a redo haha

    • @themellowmama
      @themellowmama  Год назад +2

      I so relate to this “everyone was waiting on me to do something” feeling! So icky- and definitely a result of something in our childhood honestly, to feel like we are performing or an inconvenience to others, when in LABOR no less. Ugh, I’m so sorry.
      But no “do-overs” necessary. Do it again & take control, maybe. But you learned and grew from that experience, and you birthed your baby!!! I’m so proud of you and you should be too. 🥹🫶🏼❤️

    I've had two homebirths and looking forward to my next one in a few weeks. I wasn't mentally prepared enough for #1, but I was in an ideal mental state with my 2nd. It was a quick labor, and I wasn't even sure I was in labor, despite the contraction timer app, until just before my midwife arrived, an hour before baby came. I don't really remember the pain, but I have photos that prove I was in pain, especially with #1. I am already envisioning positions I think I might be comfortable in - for my previous 2 births, I ended up delivering in the same position both were conceived in - so I think there's a trend here for me. As much as I am grateful for and trust my birth team, part of me is hoping to deliver before they arrive this time.

      High risk is a term they use to scare women into doing what they want. Your body knows what it's doing girl. Don't listen to the fear mongering doctors! 💜💜

    • @themellowmama
      @themellowmama  Год назад +1

      If you haven’t watched my previous birth story I recommend it- it was a pain-free hospital birth! BUT**** pay attention to the details in which they were constantly trying to scare me, give me things I had already expressed I didn’t want, the number of people in and out of the room, forcing me onto my back time and time again…
      Those details are helpful to know so you can clarify that you will not accept them- and even if they DO happen, you can literally ignore them and do your thing.
      I’m so proud of you!!!

      35 weeks. Also high risk so also birthing in hospital. Though water birthing would be my dream. First was a c-section due to tension. (I see that now) Second baby was magical. Labored completely alone all night thinking we would go home, but then went in just to checked and I was 8cm. And now all I hope for is another peaceful, not fearfilled birth. Good luck to you!!

    oh my god I could rant for hours about the "privilege" of giving birth to your conditions and the inherent knowing and wisdom of the female body. but still it's exactly that notion that women need to be told what and how and when to do that makes them so tense and anxious and hesitant to do a home birth. and then it become a self fulfilling prophecy. it's just taking from our power and that's so sad.

Both started a few hours after the first time stripping (I don't know what the correct English term for it is).
