Anybody who says Elvis didn’t have any real friends is crazy. Let me name a few and these guys were his only real friends. They were there through thick and thin. Lamar Fike, Red West, Sonny West, and Marty Lacker were there from the beginning. Joe Esposito, Billy, Smith, and Jerry Shilling came later. Nobody liked Larry Geller except Elvis. Larry acts like he was Elvis’ best friend. He wasn’t. And Dr. Nick just was trying to keep him from overdosing. Yes he was convicted of overprescribing but ask anybody that knew him well like girlfriend Linda Thompson (1972-1976) and she would tell you he tried his best. You’ve got to remember if one doctor didn’t give him drugs another would gladly take his place. Elvis did what Elvis wanted except for the fact that he could never fire Colonel Parker. He felt he had done too much for him, and their handshake deal was a matter of his word to him. If Elvis would have been able to tour abroad and act in quality movies he would have lived another 10 years. But as anybody who knows a drug addict knows it’s a very, very hard habit to break and Elvis simply loved drugs too much!
