Daughters are performing their 13th encore tour for You Won’t Get What You Want. the album has gone triple diamond and has been the bestselling album in 134 countries for 88 months running. kids all over the globe are flocking to the super bowl to hear the band get it’s biggest gig yet. the whole world watches in awe as the band opens up with their new and improved 30 min version of “city song”. the audience can’t contain themselves. people start swan diving from the seats onto the field. just when they thought the moment couldn’t get any better, a new figure walks on stage, and it’s none other than brockhampton’s biggest member, tony fantano. after performing a guest verse so incredible Tom Brady collapses and dies, canceling the super bowl, fantano pulls out a gun and kills all the members of Daughters. the audience is shocked and disgusted, but intrigued, because this IS fantano. he brought Daughters into this world, and he took them out. they sit in silence anticipating what’s next. he whips out his trusty bass guitar. he loudly proclaims “i am Daughters now” the crowd is ecstatic. he plays the entire album on his bass. the audience is shocked and in awe. as “Guest House” ends, the crowd is worried what happens next. as the song comes to a close, fantano yells out “TRAN”, and the audience beckons back to him. “SITION” and he starts the play the album again. the concert continues for the next 12 days. the NFL is cancelled, the world is in shambles. all that is left is Daughters, and all that is left of Daughters is fantano.

I have never heard of this band nor a whisper of anything related to them, but you got me to listen to this whole thing. I just feel musically assaulted. I've never experienced my emotions for music quite this way before and I can't even say if I enjoy it or not. It's like I'm just in pure shock of this creation manifested from the darkest part of the human mind, and I don't mean just Daughters' minds. This is the darkest part of EVERYONE that people are terrified of, manifested in music. It's like a fact of existence expressed so perfectly by Daughters that I don't even know if this does or doesn't appeal to me musically. All I know is that this is definitely deserving of a ten just based off of the artistic ability and vision to pull this thing off. Thanks for challenging how I listen to music melonboi.

These guys were SUPER under the radar during their original run, the only reason I heard of them was because they opened for Dillinger Escape Plan's final shows last year. Like you, I had never quite heard anything like them before, and I quickly fell in love with the little bit of material they had out. Which made it even better when they completely blew their back catalog away with this album, which is easily the best thing they've ever done. I'm so glad Fantano is helping expose them to a lot of new listeners like you!
I had heard the name a couple times, my first experience was when I saw Brock from Invalids wearing one of their t-shirts and I was like "Hey, yknow why don't I check these guys out." Listened to the entirety of Canada Songs which was their only album on Spotify and I left with my at the time not-quite-so-musically-open ears feeling assaulted, wish I knew at the time they had other albums out that just weren't on Spotify. Fast forward a year or two ish and I hear they released a new album (before Anthony reviewed it, saw someone mention it in a another RUclips comment section) and listened to it and I definitely had to agree. I didn't know what to think at first, but as I gave it time I slowly realized how extraordinary it was, by the time Anthony reviewed it and I saw the yellow flannel I was freaking the fuck out in happiness, the 10/10 blew me away. And now this album currently sits on the official top 500 best albums of all time list, just around 470 I believe.

I'm literally scared of Guest House, that frustration from the vocalist really hit me. And listening to this song in the middle of the night with no light on made it ten times scarier and even more haunting

I wasn’t used to darkwave stuff like this so I always listened in well lit rooms so that it wouldn’t creep me out as much and then on my third listen I listened at 11pm and all of a sudden it went from just a good rock album to a fucking masterpiece universe of horror. Honestly, your enthusiasm is the most palpable and clear it’s ever been in a review. It built up over time as you got closer to discussing your summation of the whole thing. As much as I want to listen to the album, I also want to listen to you just talk about for a little while more, cause this is contagious! 😂❤️

I think it has to do with all the “meh” music (5/10s, 6/10s, etc.) he’s had to review this year. But I will say Anthony has given A LOT of positive reviews this year and showed me a lot of great new artists/music to check out

I've been a musician/avid music lover for a long long time, I've been spinning this album for a few days and listened to "guest house" for the first time today and I've never realized that so much psychotic energy could be put into art like this. This whole album has a level of authentic anger and frustration that makes any extreme metal seem tame. Holy shit dude.

It’s 5 in total The Money Store- Death Grips, To Be Kind- Swans, To Pimp A Butterfly- Kendrick Lamar. The two from this year are Kids See Ghosts- Kanye and Kid Cudi and now You Won’t Get What You Want- Daughters. All really great albums you should listen to
I'm not sure how I feel about this album. The feelings it gives me I have never felt before in music. It legitimately gives me anxiety.
A piece of art being able to provoke literal, actual anxiety is a pretty big achievement. Art is about expressing and provoking emotions and feelings, but they aren't necessarily positive.
Yea I have intense clinical anxiety and this album made it worse. This is no joke what real anxiety feels like. ESPECIALLY city song. That shit made me feel like I was hiding from a demon. Those synths like evil breathing, those gunshot snares like banging walls. Shit is scary
Max Rooks For me it was the sadistic moaning during the second portion of City Song that really got to me. It made me feel so much anxiety.

Haha yeah Ocean Song calms things down a little bit and you’re like holy fuck ok this has been insane and then BOOM Guest House happens and it’s like chunneling down a rollercoaster that leads directly into a room full of five angry people with crowbars
You know an album is fucking brutal when Ocean Song is one of the calmer parts of the album
at the beginning of "less sex" it was so quiet in comparison to everything else so far that i was kinda afraid to turn up the volume

1-Be a very experimental or groundbreaking produced hip hop album.
2-Be a very atmospheric well put together noise rock or no wave album.

Never heard of Daughters before, but since you gave this album a 10, I guess I got to listen.
Dude listen to their albums in order and watch them evolve.
first album is kind of schizophrenic grindy mathcore stuff a la early Dillinger Escape Plan, The Number 12..., Psyopus, Tony Danza Tapdance, etc. Then the lead singer dropped the screaming and they become a weird noise/grind Tom Waits. I don't like their first album but the next two are stellar if you're into this kind of stuff. Haven't checked out the new one besides the first couple of songs; it seems a bit slower and moodier.

i can't be the only one who thought the tom drum crashes in city song were gunshots at first... i realized they weren't once i listened with headphones, but blaring it in my car i heard gunshots lol.
this is the most deserving 10/10 Anthony has given. this album is perfect. there is literally nothing like it. nothing that can tap into the deep inner workings of a mind on the brink of a psychotic breakdown as this one has. it's hazardously lush. it's evil, depressing, horrific, polarizing, beautiful. this album conveys fulfillment in a way that no other album would literally be physically capable of doing.

I like how the lyrics don't even have graphic words. most of the words are pretty normal. they are just paired up to make very unsettling imagery. Like "There's a tombstone where your headboard used to be" is a haunting image. yet all of those words out of context are pretty normal words.

Gubber Dude the line in the song daughter. “There’s a sure rope swinging, without a head in its jaws it’s waiting. Is maybe my favorite line of the entire album.
A great example of the opposite is the catalogue of Sworn In. They are a metal band with some obvious Slipknot influence who try to create this same dark, cathartic tone but the lyrics have lots of swearing and violent imagery. It’s really interesting comparing the two because they both go for this macabre tone, but the quality of the execution is significantly different.

I get people not wanting to listen to this album again, but why would he delete his review though ? As far as I know he didn't delete other reviews from controversial artists who did questionable or even horrible things... you know like xxxTentacion, a dude who abused and beat his pregnant girlfriend so hard she almost died. I could also name Brand New, 6ix9ine, Marilyn Manson, Rhye, Ariel Pink and many others. Knowing Anthony I also don't think he's the kind of guy to literally erase an album from existence, especially one he praised so highly (and probably still like to some extent despite the context). You should also check his older "Can bad people make good music ?" video.
Hell, even Lingua Ignota herself said on the interview that this is not about cancelling/not wanting people to listen to Daughters. That's not even the point actually.

1. Despite how horrific Alexis is, even in the statement Kristin wants to see him become a better person. Personally, I’m not as forgiving and not everyone who’s experienced this level of abuse will all have a similar stance.
2. Unrelated to Alexis, she’s complained about the criminal justice system and how little it actually helps survivors. In the recent interview, I think she meant less “you do you” and more “I can’t make people stop supporting them completely.” The point of her answer is that it doesn’t matter what she would want here as there’s very little odds that he’ll actually go to prison, let alone she can’t force you to stop listening to Daughters.
