It's interesting, like you would be talking about different car. in my case all is smooth while driving in Sport mode. Certainly not feeling any embarassment :-)
No strange kicking/clicking noises, no kicks or bunny hopping.
I got LCi model, maybe they improved that. The gearbox is newer and much faster anyway, that could be the big contributor to the problems you are describing?

my 1995 740iL even has sport mode! Haha. There's no button, you just shift it down into 4th gear and it puts it into sports mode, complete with a little "s" in the instrument cluster beneath the speedometer. i honestly can't tell if the steering changes; will have to check next time; but the engine doesn't shift until at least 3000 rpm's, 3500 or so if going up a hill. not bad for an almost 30 year old car! ... my favorite way to drive it is in "manual" mode. there IS a button for that.

No engine or suspension changes (unless you have SEDC) - and no extra engine power - just a change in the gearbox shift pattern - still, it's all good fun!

Have to say that watching you navigate through intersections and roundabouts gave me a bit of anxiety not being used to driving on the left side of the road. Nice one Tim. I didn't realize the theory between the throttle body and Valvetronic till now. The Dynamic Drive on my X5 is too soft for spirited driving with Sport mode off. I think the Xdrive has a different personality in Sport mode than your 650i. If your acceleration to redline is inconsistant at full throttle may, check for a failed DISA servo in ISTA. One of the 2 Disa servos takes a higher load than the second servo and will eventually fail. The winding in the servo will fail causing high current draw(typically 1 amp at 12v on the bench) and set a fault in the DME.

Love your videos Tim,, a wealth of information that I wouldn't otherwise have found here in Australia where BMW's aren't as common as they are in the UK and particularly the six series. Just finding a good mechanic that won't either rip you off or just tell you to take it to the dealership is a nightmare. I have a 09 650i that I have a love-hate relationship with that means more towards love. I was under the impression that Hinder sports button increased throttle response so when I'm looking to get somewhere in a hurry I hit the sports button as well as drive it manually through the gears. Is that not the right way to go about things?

Is there not four driving modes to choose from? I find that I like D for motorway and DS (but remain as automatic/knock it over but do not manually select gears) for when I'm in a hurry and B roads. Sport on its own is too binary; it's power delivery is either on/ off. While DS+Sport together is extremely fast and gives best straight line acceleration, but isn't as controllable as the DS is.

    Hey Tim,
You should reach out to xHP to see if they'll provide a copy of their TCU firmware for you to test.
It allows you to tweak the amount of torque in 1st gear so it only allows just enough torque at a stand still in 1st gear not to break traction.
It also enables launch control so you can bump the torque back to normal and dump it all onto the torque converter using your brake booster in the event you do feel like turning off traction control to look like an idiot.

I have a question for you. For some strange reason my car won’t let me downshift from 3rd to 2nd unless the revs drop below 3500rpm, this is annoying as I am used to driving manuals and using engine braking to slow the car down. Does your car let you shift down to second at a higher rpm?
