2:36 the explanation of the logic behind an exercise is the best part of this video. This allows people to properly understand the form and therefore how to tailor the exercise to their physical abilities! Thank you for the video!
Actually you're wrong coach, leg raises, flutter kicks, and scissors should not be done with your head and shoulders on the ground. Simple fix to taking out the arch in the back is to do the exercise properly by keeping your head and shoulders off the ground which then engages your ab muscles and pushes your back flat against the ground.
I learnt how to do this correctly from my exercise coach and it’s a killer move when done correctly. Kudos to the coach here for teaching the techniques.
Thank you! I've been doing them wrong and my back was starting to kill me. It just felt wrong and I simply couldn't keep my back flat and lower my legs at the same time and I didn't know why. This really has helped. Great Video
Many people have the same problem! You must have incredible abdominal strength, endurance, and control to keep your back flat in this exercise. Try bending your knees or keeping your legs higher up so your back stays flat. That will reduce the load slightly and help keep your hips and spine in a better position
Coach PJ Nestler Thank You. It is a little easier to do them now. I raise the legs to low didn't keep them high enough. Couldn't do at lease 2 two now I could do like twelve thank You very much.
Glad this channel popped up on my list. Just tried this method and I indeed felt much more activation in my abs. Thanks for this upload. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much for your videos. This is so helpful to see what I was doing wrong. I almost stopped doing this exercise to correct my diastasis recti because it hurt my back so much.
Man you're giving me great tips! That was my main problem with many exercises that require me to lay on my back! You have no idea how much you helped me! After giving birth i had a hard time doing exercises properly and i couldn't find tips on how to position my body so i had so much back pain but now i'm on the right track! Thanks!!
That feels way better, I gave up on these as I've had back problems in the past and this exercise really felt like it was going to send my back into spasms after only a few reps
Great video, crazy how a simple position change of the legs can make that big of a difference on an exercise like this. It makes sense though but some people always think more is better. Or with this exercise, the lower the legs the better when that's not the case at all. Everybody is different, so we're all going to have different leg heights where we can maintain a flat back during this exercise. Good stuff Coach.
Thank you so much! I could not figure out for anything why flutters hurt me so much! I thought I was either going crazy or just insanely out of shape! Lol this video was so helpful! :)
Thank you for this! An app I’m on has me doing flutter kicks and the video shows me how to do it the wrong way and it hurts my lower back, I feel nothing in my abs
Subscribed.. thank you! I noticed lumbar pain and hips... I think poor form were the culprit. I believe the reason why is bc I was aiming for a 45 degree angle with legs... yeah... it's CHALLENGING! We all start somewhere. I'll work my way there
Ugh....the army uses (or used, I've been out for about 10 years) flutter kicks, like a lot... in addition to regular physical training, it's also used as corrective training. At first you just see what everyone else is doing which was what you describe as the wrong way of doing it (and they tell you to tuck your hands behind your lower back to help support your back, so if you have back pains its because you arent supporting it properly with your hands) and quickly realize this is brutal on your back. I however after very quickly realizing the lower back pain corrected myself to the way you suggest, thinking I was actually "cheating" because it allowed me to do so many more reps after others would have to stop and rest bc of back pain. Ugh, no wonder they have soo many injuries....doing these (incorrectly) everyday for any amount of time can take a toll (especially 20+ years). Having qualified people like you to come and teach people proper form for all exercises would save soo much time and money spent on unnecessary injuries. Shameful.
Most people i know from army or navy, they don't really learn the proper form. It's a shame but ya. And they end up injured eventually. It's silly pushing people to exercise improperly.
If you do the Army version properly, you will be in more of a "hollow body" position, not flat and not arched in the lower back. With your hands under your buttocks, not your back, and your shoulder blades off the floor- kind of feels like an ab crunch, there should be no stress on your back. This provides a workout for your abs and hip flexors. When Soldiers get tired they put their shoulders down to relax their abs which arches and hurts their back.
@@nevinkinzel yes, so much easier to do with hands under the buttocks and shoulders up. I was always out flutter-kicking others thinking I had found a hack. lol
thank you - half of the moves of that ab-app of another youtuber is basically bad for my back (because he is trained well enough so his back doesnt move)
Oooohhhh so that's how you do it. I was just lifting my feet lmao. I knew it was too easy
Yeah same with me just kicking my legs out😜
Kind of sad when I realize that I’ve just wasted the whole quarantine doing it wrong.

Am I supposed to feel the burn only in my abdomen or the lower back as well?
Blew my mind
Hi! So does this mean I need to get stronger abdominal so I will be able to bend my legs lowest as I could
How long should you do these for ?

Shoulders should be off the floor and it eliminates the gap. Pulse you need a hose flowing at you. At least that’s what they said was right…. 🤷🏻♂️
