- Planks…You’re Doing It WRONG
The plank is one of the most well-known core exercises, and for good reason, they are super simple to perform anywhere, require no equipment and minimal technique, and they are an effective way to train the core muscles for their primary function.
As with all exercise, there are a few major points that should be recognized, to make this truly an effective core training exercise, instead of low threshold useless crap (as more commonly seen). Since there is no movement in a plank, we are creating stability in good joint positions, therefore POSITION becomes the most important factor here.
Arbitrarily holding a plank in a bad position will not only do nothing in terms of benefits, but it will actually strengthen and stabilize crappy joint positions, essentially making you worse than just not performing them at all.
Who wants to spend their time exercising just to end up WORSE than you were before?
“She’s only been doing this for about 20 seconds” looorrrdd. You had her planking for like 2 minutes straight and then said look at her shaking
😂right??
lol
I came here just to find this comment. XD
Amen sister. Poor Cristina held that plank like a champ as time flew by for coach PJ.
Get microphones to clip to your shirtsssssssssss
Marvelous video. Great technique to self check. Please introduce the person you’re working with. It’s rude to leave her unnamed when you’re using her as a demonstration.
Lmfaoo dam she was planking for a really long time . Lol 🤣🤣🤣. Girl you should ask for a raise.
I’m so glad I stumbled across these videos - I’ve been working out at home for over 20 years so these videos are great for someone like me the doesn’t have a trainer watch over me while I’m working out. Thank you, I’m now hooked and watching them all! 👌🏼🙏🏼 🤗
*that doesn’t* - typo lol
If the forces of gravity are trying to pull us down to the floor, then why are we squeezing the glutes? Gravity is trying to pull us into hip (lumbar) extension which is what we dont want. Squeezing the glutes only contributes to hip extension. Instead we should be turning on the hip flexors as well as hollowing out the core (as you so rightly point out). Squeezing the glutes is the wrong cue.
Thanks for uploading this video. It's really help me a lot on how to exercise correctly. It's much better than some personal trainers at the Gym. Thanks!
Shumei Chen I’m happy it has helped you!
I do this one right . 🙂😁
i was worrying about her not being able to keep the form in the middle of the video
Excellent video!!! Thanks
Thank you so much for all your videos! I’ve been doing it all wrong, but now I know better. Also, been binge watching your videos. Please keep them coming! ❤️
I like to use these videos as A quiz to see if I can identify the flaw in form by the thumbnail and then find out if I am right by
watching the video, these are so well done!!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them. Sorry about the sound quality (echo) on these last few, always trying new locations, we will clean it up next time.
Hi coach PJ,
Thanks again for your videos. They are helping me a lot. I really would like to know which abs are one of the best to do without equipment. I’m guessing planks are good but could you tell me a few more?Thank you.
Thank you very much for the video, but the sound is horrible, i cant hardly understand you! ((
Best,
I definitely like ur vids
I really appreciate your videos. 👍👍
Well, explained sir. But I guess you should get a microphone as your voice is kinda echoing.
I don't know, man... she seems to be doing something right....
Great video .great.good for my back
Coach PJ, do you apply the same "pulling" concept on side planks? Driving the forearm down and toward the hip isometrically while keeping the elbow underneath the shoulder? Thanks!
Sure do Tanner! Helps to keep the elbow under the shoulder, the humerus centrated in the joint, and create tension in the lats and obliques
Her face reminds me of some of the characters on series Family Guy! Not to b rude but she does. Terrific video. Helps a lot.
I like position 1:10 mmmmmmm
