They should redo this ride. From what I've heard it has mostly negative reviews saying how people come off with their head hurting or have pain elsewhere.

If you don't know how to ride it, it can be rough, but if you lean your head in the direction that the train is twisting during the batting and corkscrew, you'll get a surprisingly smooth ride for an Arrow 7-looper.

This I wish I knew before they got rid of the scream machine in NJ! I do kind of miss it. It was exciting to look at. Way more so than that dumb "green lantern" they replaced it with.

Viper...The LAST remaining 7-looper coaster in the world made by Arrow Dynamics. If Six Flags removes this one I will be really mad at them. I hope they consider revamping it or making it smooth again so it can relive it's glory days.

I love Viper so much. I got to ride it two times in a row cause of the really short lines, but honestly I didn’t even bump my head or my neck, it was a really fun ride with great speed and many loops. 10/10

This was one of the least painful arrow loopers I rode. I actually enjoyed it. Arrow loops are just beautiful and hilarious at the same time.

Garbage movie
Apparently this one was on the list of ones they were considering using for the movie, but they went with the (much smaller) Vekoma Corkscrew instead. Keep in mind 1) they had to find a park that would be willing to shut down the ride to the public for an extended time so they could film on it, and 2) the actors had to ride it nearly 20 times in a row to film all the scenes, and while a coaster enthusiast may be able to ride this 20 times in a row with no ill effects a lot of people wouldn't.
This was my favorite coaster in the 1990's. The last time I rode it, there was no X coaster to look at when you reach the top of the lift hill. Sadly, it became a rough ride as many Arrow coasters have, but Ron Toomer was very proud of this one, as he should be.. RIP, RON

I remember when this ride was smooth as silk. I was a kid and this was my favorite ride at the park. This was back when it first opened, of course. But now it's one of the worst rides at the park. So painful. I refuse to ride it, which makes me kinda sad, since I have so many fond memories of it. -_- Oh well. It's only a matter of time before they either remove it completely or revamp it. I vote for the latter, because I think it deserves it.

Six Flags Magic Mountain should look into investing in soft shoulder restraints for this ride. Like the restraints on Banshee at Kings Island, for example. You know, for all the people who complain about head banging...

The double tear drop loops made my eye balls feel as if there not in focus.

I went on this ride when I went to California on a school trip in 94. Really fun.

I rode this. One of my favorites at SFMM. The batwing element right after the brake run is really cool, and the double corkscrew in the second half creates a weird optical illusion. It's also a VERY smooth ride, especially since the seats were recently fixed. Everything a good coaster should have.
Viper IS my childhood! I actually got KICKED OUT of Six Flags Magic Mountain on my birthday because my friends (not me) were filming their experience on one of Magic Mountain's coasters. I'm probably dating myself but there was a time when trying to film a POV coaster ride was not tolerated. The future is good times.

SoCal Surfer 88 I disagree with both of you guys because my friend and I are never going on this again cause it hurts and we are not scaredy-cat cats. My friend has been on the tallest and second fastest roller coaster in the world so she is not scared and I’m not either, but I did get a back injury and bruised my face so yeah. I’d rather have someone punch me than that.

What they need to do first and foremost is smooth the ride out. I've heard people say it's incredibly painful. Sure, some people may enjoy a rough riding coaster, but most people don't. That's why wooden coasters were partially phased out.

Despite the bumpy ness and jerking, this ride was fun!! Just make sure to hold on super tight! I had to hold my head to the side really hard so that it wouldn’t jerk to the other side. I rode it like 20 times because there was no line for it at all! I wonder why though...
Truly a classic roller coaster of all time! One of my favorites regardless of the bad press. but yes, softer harnesses won't hurt, only improve ridership.

When I was a kid I had a vhs tape called there goes a rollercoaster. It was filmed at magic mountain and was more or less just a giant advertisment for it. The scene where they showcased viper was always my favorite. 20 years later I finally got the chance to go to magic mountain and ride viper and you know what? It kicked the living shit out of me. 20 god damn years to have my head slammed back and fourth countless times.
I have been to Six Flags 3 times and every time I ride this coaster multiple times. Once my friend and I rode it 7 times in a row. Had a bad headache after but it was worth it. Lol.
when i went on this ride, i learned the way how to lean a certain way and it won't hurt you
it was the very first ride i rode at my first time at six flags M.M. Yes. It hurt my neck and gave me a migraine.. new padding on the restraints would be nice.
Virtually almost all neck pain can be avoided if you use the muscles in your neck and take advantage of the headrests.
Even with that advantage, that is part of the cause of neck pain. Trying to keep your head still from it banging around.
Even on coasters far rougher than Viper, it has never failed me...
well that sounds like a personal problem. Everyone's different so stop contradicting everything I have to say about the ride..... I still like the ride. Every experience is different with everyone
My favorite thing about this ride is that it sounds like it's freaking falling apart when the train goes up the lift hill. Lol

This ride hurts like a bitch. It gave me headaches after i rode it but aye that ride is from the 90's when they build it by hand and not with computers so obvs this ride will be a pain but i give them credit for the hard work and the loops. Loops are my favorites in rollercoasters.

I love this ride but the seats need to have more padding. I am short and my head kept banging causing me to get a headache. Otherwise it is a good ride.

I had got on viper for the first time with some earings, and my ear was red when I got off.
Generally no as you are not supposed to ride the type of coaster with earrings on (they specifically said not to with its sister ride at Great adventure).
I actually cried on this one, not because I was scared, because I hit the sides of my head on the bars to much it hurt really bad... And I'm only 11

You should put your hands on the sides of your head while on the ride. It helps a lot.

I hope I win the lottery and can save this coaster when it closes. Call in vekoma to retrack the rough transitions, keep that awsome sounding classic lift. Have the trains modified to have comfort collars instead of hard restraints. This ride would be a elite coaster if it was smooth.
I remembered when this ride opened. I was a child back then and was wasn’t tall enough to ride. I was devastated. All I could do after finding out I couldn’t ride was stare at the first loop. I still vividly remember that moment. I loved watching this coaster in motion. I ride it every time I went back, once I could ride it. I haven’t been to MM since 2001, but I remember how it felt to ride this coaster. Yea, it’s rough. BUT, I remember the fun I had most. The backseat was the funniest section to ride in. Flying over the top of the hill...painful, but fun. That first loop was so epic. I loved the last four inversions. So disorienting. Now, my memories of my childhood and teenage self may, contrast greatly if I were to ride it today, as a 30 something year old man! 😂 Again, I remember how rough it was! 😂

I remember riding this coaster 6 times in a row before the park closed back in the 90s when there was no waiting time. I see the comments about how the ride is painful but I guess I was so young that it didn't bother me back then. Good times.

This is one of the rougher rides at Six Flags, but it's always been my favorite.

Most of the time, the station is empty, so there should be like 1 or 2 people on the ride.
Fun fact; this was one of the Rollercoaster that inspired a Piece for FINAL DESTINATION 3. The director couldn't find a Big enough Rollercoaster so instead they took 3 different Rides this being one of them, the other being in Vancouver Playland and the other was CGI and made 1 Big Rollercoaster. 💯
I did not have the painful experience on this ride that I was fully expecting to have. Fun!

Viper was my first looping coaster I was 8 in 1990 and before Viper I had only been on Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and The Matterhorn.
There were 3 very similar rides Six Flags installed around the same time and this is the only remaining one of them. Shockwave at Six Flags Great America was removed in 2002, Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Great Adventure was removed in 2010. This ride has all the same elements, but slightly different transitions between them, mainly due the size and shape of the areas the rides were installed. For example, GASM had the train leaving the station and making a 180 degree turn before the lift hill, while on Viper, the lift hill climbs directly out of the station.
Looks exactly like the Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Great Adventure, which is it's sister coaster. Scream Machine was demolished in 2010. This is one of the last arrow dynamic coasters around.
The chain lifts click like that because of a safety mechanism that prevents the train from going backwards, in case the chain breaks or the train comes loose. That way, the train doesn't fall back down the hill during a sudden failure, slamming into the waiting train at the station, injuring or killing everyone nearby.
I rode this and it made me cry 😊
