      Use a heavy crossbow with Sharpshooter, and don't use odd numbered stats. Use Str as a trash stat and max Dex for max initiative, attack, and damage. It's also the most common saving throw. Forego the need to get into melee and just shoot anything you need to for a much better build. If melee occurs , just chop it to bits with dual scimitars. And that's how you /really/ "fighter".

I figured "i can try them all and see what i like". Omg it was such a fun class to play as! Not only unbelievable offensive slaughtering ability, but also a pretty good tank. I felt god-like once I got lae'zel. On my first time, I missed her first encounter and only got her on my way to chapter 2. Having 2 fighters basically murdering everyone in 1 turn was insane.

    If u frighten a prone enemy it cant get up until the frightened condition ends because standing up requires half of your movement, so Trip + Frightening = stun basically. Its just a pleasure to watch your videos, not even as a "Build guide" but just as a piece of BG3 content, thank you for the video!
    Edit: Idk why, but i found its working inconsistently with Battlemaster manoeuvres, sometimes enemies still get up even if frightened, using something that lowers their movement speed (Ray of frost for example) might be the reason some of them cant get up, or it might be tied to enemy types, so for the safety of me not becoming a "classic bad internet advice guy" take this comment as a "potential strategy idea" not a bulletproof tech that is 100% tested.

    Admittedly I was one of those people who disliked Githyanki, but after playing this game for some time they honestly have become my favorite race in the game. Lore-wise and design-wise they are one of the most interesting races in DnD, and as far as gameplay goes, their versatility makes them very powerful. Objectively, because of Martial Prodigy, they make the best Monks and Hexblades, and they make for pretty solid Sorcerers, Warlocks, and Wizards because of that medium armor proficiency. They’re also the only race that can fully utilize Githyanki Greatswords which are very powerful early game. Couple that with Astral Knowledge, free Misty Step and Mage Hand, and Githyanki Psionic Jump, they make for a very powerful race.
    Also I wanna say that you’re build videos are the best I’ve seen here on RUclips. Your editing and build knowledge are top-tier 👌

    Additionally, you can get another +1 stat of your choice when you do the Aunty Ethel questline in ACT I. when you fight her don't kill her Make sure her hp is below 10-15% i think and she will beg for her life. If you spare her she will give you an item that gives +1 to any stat that you like, Also you can pass the intimidation check to save the girl. You can't technically kill her until you get to ACT III so you might as well get a +1 stat so you can bonk her in ACT III

      Essentially, you give the mirror some of your memories (ability points) in order to gain some new ones. For example, if I wanted the +2 in strength, I would do -2 in like intelligence or something. You do have to pass hard skill checks so I would save the game when you're doing them.
      Once you're done, you can get your other ability points back by using the cure curse spell. In short, you basically just get the +2 in whatever attribute you want without losing anything since you cured the curse which stole you're other ability points.
      Free +2 points ez (may include frustration as these skill checks made me wanna quit the game because I was a Barbarian and had no intelligence / wisdom to begin with)

    I think part of the reason why Githyanki is picked so little is - all the reasons you pointed out why the race is great. Amazing proficienies, abilities, passives - especially for fighter. And guess who you get IMMEDIATELY when you start the game? Lae'zel.
    When people start the game most won't know how useful certain abilities are so they make their character rather based on appearance and Githyanki aren't pretty, lets be real. Then they play the intro, get Lae'zel and if they decide to restart as a different race/class, what would they NOT pick? Yeah, the exact combination that Lae'zel is, especially when you can't respec until at least a little bit into the game.
    So I would say, Githyanki is rightfully the least picked race - but only because almost everyone uses and loves Lae'zel in their party and you don't need two of her.

    • @andrewrossello6611
      @andrewrossello6611 11 месяцев назад

      People don't pick Gith because they are ugly and aesthetically weak "looking" incarnate, they manage to make Orcs more appealing (at least they correctly portray their niche), I'm almost of a mind that the intent was to see how many people would forgo physical aesthetic, in favor of excellent Racials. Which is not many, very much a low effort Dark Elf.

    Fighters get a lot of hate for being "vanilla and boring", but my first and so far most fun playthrough of BG3 was a Dwarf Fighter, who by level 12, had so may hit points, an armor class so high and so many attacks, he would simply walk into a horde of enemies as all their attacks bounced off him and carve them up or disarm them or knock them prone depending on his mood. In fact the rest of the party was often little more than support, just keeping him buffed, blessed and hasted and watching as he became a walking meat grinder.

    Gith is honestly so underrated, but it's really strong. Most people initially think that the best race for frontliners is Half-Orc, but that's a very surface level reasoning. Gith is the obvious best choice once you really think about the roles and responsibilities of a frontliners.
    As a frontliner you need to be able to actually go to the frontlines, which means mobility. Gith clearly wins here since Half-Orc has no mobility bonus.
    The second thing frontliners need to do is deal damage, so Half-Orc wins here right? WRONG! If you can't reach your enemy then you're doing 0 damage that turn. The Gith's mobility allowing you to reach at least a turn earlier means you're doing one turn more of damage compared to the Half-Orc, that's so much more damage you can do than the Half-Orcs extra damage on crit which actually isn't a lot of extra damage due to how rare a crit happens. So yes, unintuitively Gith outdamages Half-Orc
    because mobility = damage. Similar case applies with defense, it's better to be able to potentially misty step out of a bad situation, heal up, then go back, than to die and get back up to 1 hp only once per long rest. Besides, Healing Word and throwing potions is so easy that pretty much does what Half-Orc's endurance does.
    Gith's are busted in this game. Half-Orcs are pretty weak. Even in 5e very few consider the Half-Orc good for optimized builds.

    Hey man, loving the builds you are putting out and the production quality on the videos is insane! Even if they aren't pumped one after the other like other channels, you make the most entertaining ones. Got a question though. Have you considered making entire team build videos? Having individual builds for characters that work on their own is all well and good but having adaptable party members or a team focused on a single goal or play sounds like a lot of fun. Like a party that focuses on the wet condition with ice and lighting spells with individual pieces of the Speedy Sparks set for whom needs what. The reason I ask is because a lot of the great builds always ask for the same items, like the caustic band, killer's sweetheart and the amulet of greater health. They are fantastic items which is why everybody has them and cant be shared. Just wanted to throw that idea out their. Cant wait for the next video, Baldurs Gate has taken over my life at the moment.

    You can get the legendary gith sword in act 1. You just need to drink an invisibility potion and land a disarming strike on the gith dragon rider. He'll drop it and you can pick it up and either run away or let your character die and resurrect them with withers

    great build overall, perfect for a solo playthrough. But if you're going to be doing a normal-ish playthrough with SH at least. dipping into cleric is pretty useless as you already get those spells from SH and you'll almost always have your bonus action used on jump or the bonus attack from Fighter itself.

    Very entertaining video, as usual =)
    I guarantee you that halflings are the best race in nearly every case, unless you badly need shield proficiency or med arm prof with your build. Larian made a HUGE change to the 5e rules (in addition to a zillion other "changes" - although I suspect that they just don't know the rules over there, so I count these as mistakes rather than intentional changes). The change is that you can critically fail saves in bg3, which is against the actual 5e ruleset. Re-rolling 1's is an incredible ability, especially for concentration. Misty step 1/long rest is crap and can be done with items and scrolls if necessary. Disguise self/shapeshift can allow benefits to gith-only items. And advantage on stealth can, I believe, help with initiating combat with surprise. I believe that you need to make a stealth check to do that.
    I'm also a bit confused how it is that you say in the beginning that a fighter needs to stay alive, but then ditch 3 AC right at the start with great weapon fighting style (vs defense) and no shield. Your recommended gear further ditches AC. I'm picturing this character at lvl 4 or 6 getting absolutely mauled on solo tactician (you mention at one point that this build is so strong that you can do it solo). Try running into solo melee against 4 ancient mud mephits and 2 wood woads at lvl 4 with this build (I have, and it was rough - way harder than other solo tactician builds that I've tried, such as a druid of the land, throwing fighter - 2nd worse build - or a gloomstalker). Your saves are also terrible, so any wis-based disable will likely land. I also don't get leaving out evasive footwork maneuver. This build and its choices aren't compared with anything. There is no "I think it is better to choose this over that for the following reason." Instead it is, "pick this because I'll show you footage of crushing greater zombies at lvl 12"
    Compare this with a 5 ranger/2 fighter halfling ranged build on solo tactician, with a 29 AC and very good saves (and with warding bond which was left out of the suggestions, which can be cast by a character at your camp that isn't even in your party). 45 movement per turn (longstrider and transmuter stone), hide as a bonus action, always win initiative. Can then do 5 lvls of valor bard, or play around with other small tweaks, such as 1 lvl of mage. Now you are around 32 AC in Act 3, same massive massive amount of attacks early in combat. If you leave out mage or lvl 2 of fighter, you can have sharpshooter (basically you have to leave out 1of either 1 wizard, 2 fighter, 2 dex, or sharpshooter). Or, at least pick any one good alternative build and show how this is superior or at least how it compares, rather than just listing features and items and emoting about how op they are. Over-powered compared to what? Presumably if you are "over" then something else is "under."
    I think that the boat to the ancient forge, and the ancient forge area itself, is a good test of a build. If you can beat the 6 dwarves on the boat solo tactician at lvl 5 or 6, then good. And then if you can wipe out the rest up there. If you get mauled in those places, as this build almost certainly would, then that is a sign that you aren't exactly OP.

    • @donkeysunited
      @donkeysunited 11 месяцев назад +1

      All excellent points. A pure melee build will always struggle, especially if solo, unless it can be built to break the game (stupid levels of AC, saves, resists and movement).

    • @davidmills1520
      @davidmills1520 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@donkeysunited Yeah, there is a sort of reality with BG3 where any reasonably-built party of 4 characters is extremely "OP," (which is normal and not a bad thing for DnD) so a true "OP" build would pretty much have to be mostly solo (I still use buffs from party members who stay at camp, personally). I'm also not sure how much tanking is really a thing in bg3 or in 5e in general, since there aren't really ways to hold agro. DnD is more of a stealth game combined with not being too squishy regarding AC and saves, or else it is an attempt to use not-too-many resources per fight. Any DnD encounter where you can blow most of your long-rest resources should be expected to be an "OP" blowout.

    Thanks to fighter I was able to make a thematic build for Wyll. I did 7 fighter and 5 warlock. He gets 3 attacks too because pact of blade extra attack stacks. I gave him the legendary rapier so he gets to attack using bonus every turn and also the legendary bow for haste. He can attack up to 10 times, 3 attacks x 3 action + 1 bonus. Probably another 3 attacks if I remembered to use the blood elixir. Warlock gives access to devils sight and darkness, a nice emergency button that still lets you attack with protection. It's kind of like sanctuary since enemies can't target you from outside, and most enemies don't have devil's sight so they get disadvantage if they try to hit you inside.

    I think part of the reasons why the statistic shows that giths are the least playable race is that because we already have laezel as fighter in our party and people just want to have some variety in their party, I think most people want different classes and different races in their party for balanced builds
    That and personal reasons

    Instead of Athlete, you can take Tavern Brawler at level 4 for the +1 to Strength and be good at both ranged and melee combat (even unarmed) the rest of the game. No need to leap into combat when the enemies can just be picked off at range before they get the chance to do any damage and you're still just as tanky. With a 17 starting strength at character creation, you can have a 20 strength by Fighter level 6 meaning a minimum +10 damage on hit from just strength mods plus a minimum +13 to attack rolls meaning you're rarely going to miss. Additionally, there are several items in Act 1 that boost your throwing damage. With the returning pike, kushigo gloves and a throwing ring, you'll end up doing 1d10 + 2d4 + 10 + misc bludgeoning damage from height/falling damage with a 80-95% hit chance every attack.
    The only issues are that throwing pathing can be a bit finnicky and "returning" weapons will often not return to you if you initiate combat with a throw so it's good to have backup thrown items like javelins or handaxes. You can take Great Weapon Master too to be more deadly if you're ever stuck in melee. Also, a good bow for strength-based characters is the Titanstring Bow which adds your strength mod to the weapon's damage; it's from Act 1, purchasable from a vendor in the Zhentarim hideout.

    I believe some act 2 gear should be recommended while you wait for act 3 gear. Like the adamantine splint armor (give the shield to a certain ranger/rogue build) someone said gloves of the automaton, and id recommended getting the halberd of vigilance and the cloak of absorb elements (both in moonrise) extra range, +10dmg GWM, +2dmg caustic ring, +1d4 force, +1d6(?) Elemental damage per short rest with that cloak. Quite the investment, like the little brother to the gith sword. Or go jorgals greatsword (grymforge) for that slight ranged attack
