Elections for judges is a bad idea in general. Since Judges need large amounts of money to run for office they often can be brought. You can see this play out in Mississippi.
I don't feel we should have public elections, judges are supposed to be non partisan and highly experienced and educated, public elections would mean infusions of outside money to influence the court even more than they have been by right wing think tanks like the Heritage Foundation.

Republicans should vote in primaries for their best, decent congressional candidates who are willing to try to work with the other side. I would love to see a Federal election law (or amendment if necessary) that declares if you change party affiliation while in office (or say between the election and taking office) your seat will be cleared and a special election run wherein you have to run under the appropriate party. Go to their websites - I find it useful to see who is endorsing them. Often state political party sites will also show which judges they endorse.
