I have a feeling that because Vance is tied strongly to project 2025 and Trump will not only not let anyone tell him what to do, he'll do the opposite just for spite, that as soon as Trump refuses to do what project 2025 leaders tell him to do. Vance will 35th Amendment Trump claiming he's in mental decline. There by making Vance POTUS to carry on with p2025's plan/mandates. The wealthy backers are focusing more on house races than Senate races, which is strange. But, they need Mike Johnson to remain the speaker because they'll need the speaker to also sign off on the claim that Trump is mentally unwell and he would become the new VP. Given all of the negative things Vance said about Trump not so long ago, it was very strange that Trump chose him. I don't believe for one second it was Junior and Eric that convinced Trump. Walz destroyed Vance at the debate
Both did well and I felt it was somewhat even up until the last few minutes when Vance blew it. And I have to dock points from Vance for lying on so many of his responses and then freaking out when he was fact checked.

I thought Walz pushed back effectively when Vance misrepresented facts.
Plus compromise is and always has been a foundation of our checks and balances system. Coming to a point that we can all agree on to get things passed. Walz showed he is willing to do just that within reason. Not when it comes to extremes but agreement on real issues, like gun control for example. You can have guns just not military assault rifles that have 30 rounds. That's a common sense compromise. It's exactly what our divided county needs to come back together 💙 not bullies that will further alienate people.

I am a Walz supporter...but he stumbled on his "honesty" when he was confronted with the Hong Kong question...so he was not honest there. He should have straight out immediately fessed up...but they had to prod him to do that, which was disappointing for a man that has a lot of integrity.

Brian, I’m in rural red central Texas. The local MAGA have embraced JDV since the debate and are ready to discard Trump. They say that if Vance were running again TRUMP they would vote for Vance and say it’s time for Trump to bow out due to age and health. They feel Vance is young, polished, articulate and able to “get along” unlike Trump, “bless his heart.” They feel that Vance is a way to win and believe democrats will “stop fighting” if they replace Trump with Vance. It’s breathtaking how quickly the Maga locals here have discarded Trump in their minds and see Vance as the great savior.

My thoughts~Walz practiced with the tape available on Vance. On Tuesday we met a new Vance and I think this threw Walz during the first half. By the second half he recovered and I’m actually more impressed with him than before because he did adapt. He appeared at the debate thinking he was showing up for mini-me Trump, what he got was reincarnated Ted Bundy. He adapted and he overcame. He did well.

No. Lies don't count. It wasn't only Vance not Certifying the election and admitting Trump Lost. It was Vance saying he wasn't supposed to be fact checked.

Tim Walz could have countered J D Vance's censorship accusation by pointing-out the censorship of psychiatric findings that Donald Trump is a dangerous psychotic.
See, here is why I disliked Vance and especially on that one question:
1. He didn't answer. It's a simple answer: "Yeah, Trump lost." and he couldn't say it.
2. He immediately spun to saying he wanted to discuss the future and if Harris censored speech in 2021. I mean... you cannot say you are focused on the future while discussing the past. AND... No, the VP didn't censor anyone since the VP doesn't have that power.
Its my opinion that Trump probably got super pissed that JD Vance was civil, but if I came into the debate not knowing anything I would think JD was smoother but I tuned out his constant blaming and naming of Kamala like literally everything was her fault. I found JD to be not credible because of that.
I came away with the knowledge that Vance can smooth talk his way into nearly anything. He is the picture of the snake Trump talks about.
Walz kind of did the same thing though. I'm not sure this is a valid reason to question his credibility.

We know Vance has extreme views.. he knew he had to appeal to people who may not be totally aware of this, but who might be swayed by this debate 'persona'. 'Hooking'... Just a thought. As you were discussing, Waltz needed to walk a very fine line - stick to his 'Midwest 'get along together' reputation, while also revealing the huge gap between Harris and Trump. Vance is a snake. I agree to a degree. Vance knew that he would be compared to a seriously nice guy and would fall short, given their favorability ratings. He ramped it up to be an equal in that sense, until Walz asked about the 2020 election results and Walz responded to Vance's none answer with a passionate reply. Vance reacted as a jerk and the mask fell off.
Vance is running for Pres in 2028 and Walz isn't. Big difference. When Trump loses, he will blame and destroy Vance and I don't think he fully understands that, yet.

What I learned from the Oct, 1st Vice Presidential debate between candidates J.D. Vance & Walz is that Vance realizes Trump will become a political relic and the Trump campaign is sailing on the Titanic.
Subsequently, Vance is now preparing for his presidential run in 2028 by using his Yale Law School education savvy to appear palatable to moderates and independents, while still balancing his real loyalty to the extreme right.
"I was told there would be no fact checking!" Says a lot, doesn't it.
That was a defining moment. Vance's complaining about fact checking showed his true character clearly.

IMHO, I think even if Governor Walz wanted to go in there as the attack dog, it is against his kind nature, and I perceive that he does not like to pretend and go against how he really is. I think that is commendable and my respect for him as a good human being remains in the stratosphere.

We always want to see the bad guys take a verbal beating, but that is not a productive impulse. What we NEED is for the truth to prevail, and Vance’s performance couldn’t hide it. By being a phony debate boy Vance showed us again and in a new way that he worships a false god and that he has no core.

Walz did enough in this soon-to-be-forgotten debate at the end. The fact that he trapped Vance in a corner on whether or not he'd certify the election if Trump lost, and did Trump not lose the 2020 election (Trump has recently admitted he lost the election). Vance came off as a slicker, just like Trump. America is wary of Trump and slickers like him in politics. They've been burned before. I think the moderators failed us. They were much kinder to Vance and let him continue on and on after they said they needed to move on several times. He dictated his own time.

UK here. I find it amusing that for the last several years, many in the pundit class have been calling for a return to normality (or normalcy as you guys would say) in politics....and then when you get a comparatively 'normal' debate, people are freaking out about it and saying Walz was not aggressive enough.

I saw one man showing how important this was, heart connected to head, trying for connection. The other one disconnected,
