Thanks for your video; you explained it very well. I am new at learning all the soldering board pieces. I learned a lot. You have a nice calming , soothing voice too. ❤

Hi todderbert, I have this kit, I am working on the Elenco AMFM-108CR right now, and these kits are real fun to build, if you have the RF generator and the scope to set every stage up the performance is even better. I also have the Tecsun 2p3 I am going to build at some point in time. I really enjoy your channel and will continue looking for more radios. Have a nice day!!!

Built this in Elec. Tech. class back in 2002, still works. Got it in my basement for use in emergencies.

Congratulations! You just made the jump from "elmer" to full on "radio nut". Bulding a superhet will do that to you....8)
Get ye to a hamfest (or troll ePay) and get yourself a signal generator. I know, I know, but it's an important tool to have when building such things as well as to make sure the radios you have are aligned properly.
Alright...if for some reason you really don't want to; tune IF cans, loopstick, ect. @ 600 and trim caps @ 1400 (1500 if it'll tune to 1700).
BUT....honestly....you'd be a lot better off with a signal generator. You'd be surprised what a difference using one can make when it comes to getting the most out of your radios.
I wash I was well off enough to send you one as well as a Panasonic RF-2200.
Thanks for all you do. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the great video! Love it. I'm from AU and I always chuckle when Americans say 'sodder' instead of 'solder'. You mention you have the AM/FM version of the Elenco, have you built it yet? (I haven't yet checked out your other vids) - I would bet the FM band audio is mono. The hand capacitance issue of the AM-550CK is a show-stopper for me, as other than the educational value of the build, the 'usability' of the device is virtually just a show piece. The PC board is huge - they could probably have done away with the screen printed circuit schematic on the board to conserve space and replaced it with the C1 R1 type of component placement. The other issue for me is that I would have to import the kit from the 'States (even via Amazon) - this would take at least a month. I may still try it out... Anyway, thanks again for sharing!

Hello, did you import a kit from "the states"?.
I am in NSW and I would love to have a go at building this kit, -( I have not built anything before).

I haven't built this kit yet, but I've built the am radio and the 555 oscillator from Elenco. One thing I've learned with their kits is making a mistake is costly. Don't make a mistake. The foil pads will come off when you desolder and you will have to make a jumper, if you have the space to do so. I skipped the instructions and put a capacitor on the wrong side of the board on the radio.
Lesson learned. Stick to every step of the instructions

I have noticed in almost all cases the IC set (above 3 volts) fails to compete with earlier 7 transistor sets when it comes to AM (both MW and SW). I wondered why manufacturers never produced dual audio sets - IC for FM and transistors for AM. May be due to cost concern. Then I found this set of kits at Amazon. Thank you for your review. I will order it from Amazon and try myself or may be give it to a local experienced electronic mechanic to make a set.

Todderbert, This is my 3rd time watching this video, I am getting ready to build this kit and looks like the fun will continue, the Elenco AMFM-108 CR, the AM section is working, the FM section is not working at this point. I followed the manual for a manual alignment, but can not get any thing out of it, I am guessing the oscillator is not running. Part of the learning electronics and troubleshooting is finding out what the problem is, and I am not one to give up, I sure am having fun....enjoy your day...

A few fun kits to build are the Tecsun 2P3: ruclips.net/video/A5T-Kpndxss/видео.html , and the Murania: ruclips.net/video/0X02CTSdi5w/видео.html . Thanks for writing!

Sweet little radio! The link on learn to solder is broken. I wonder if making a separate battery holder on the side would really slim the kit down to fit in a deck of cards?

I bought a pocket oscilloscope a dso 188 model for about 30.00 bucks ,and I just sent for a frequency counter kit 5.00 bucks ,but I have a fluke and other meters ,I made a wave form generator kit for my oscilloscope some gear you can spend a lot like my fluke and my hakko, other times you can get by with a inexpensive scr meter ,some, of us aren't rich .

The sound on the elenco seems a bit wonky, like its always distorted. The muriana sounds better. Not sure why, maybe the baffle would help. Elenco does seem nice and selective though, thanks for the demo!

Why did they not use a double balanced Tayloe Mixer so that the output from the mixer and using your soundcard to digitize the very low Intermediate Frequency which will be demodulated using your personal computer...
    i.e am demod=sqrt(sqr(i)+sqr(q));
