As an American, I love hearing Brits talk about weather stuff. FYI for Matt- we do double glazed windows too, but for us when you say 'air conditioning' we're almost universally referring to cooling a room or house. My impression has been that most of you have a central unit that does heating, while for us those almost always do both as needed.
Yes, we don't have cooling systems and our houses are literally built to retain as much heat as possible (thick brick walls + insulation, boarded lofts with insulation etc.). Americans tell us "oh it's not that hot" yet they move from air conditioned office to air conditioned car to air conditioned house lol.
25c in an air conditioned room vs 25c in the architectural equivalent of a snow suit capable of insulating a person safely in the antarctic is quite different. Although, 25c _outside_ when you're not wearing winter gear is not super unpleasant.
@@MattLowne Thick brick walls and insulation help keep the house cool as well, if heat is not allowed to enter the house through other means. The problem is that generally British houses have very large windows which are bad insulators regardless of glazing etc. Southern European houses also have thick walls and insulation but have smaller windows with shutters which keep them much cooler. They also have AC to cool down the air if it gets hot - and then the thick insulation keeps the air cold for longer.
@@MattLowne Yeah, when you said you had air conditioning, I thought you meant you had a cooling system for your house.. That's why we refer to it as HVAC in the US, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, as they are separate things.
Hi Matt, love your content. In regards to you having issues with the heat, I live in the North of England and we hit 29c today. I suffer with MS and the heat makes it much worse. A few years ago I went out and spent £399 on an air conditioning unit and it's the best thing I've ever bought. I never have to worry about the heat now and my living room is like a fridge right now. I roll it through to the bedroom during the night. Seriously consider getting one for your work space. All you need to do is put a plastic pipe like you would one of those tumble dryers out your window and a bucket to collect the water and you're good to go. Seriously its amazing. I'd recommend at least a 9000 btu. All the best and take care!
I personally would avoid portable air conditioners and go for a window unit if those are available where you live. The portable units are better than nothing but have big insulation issues with their exhaust tubes. They also WILL be more expensive to operate than a window units because of some air pressure problems. Technology Connections has made a very great video about these portable units!
@@bob38028 Unfortunately here in the UK the windows are built a little differently. We don't have window units or if we do they're very rare. Our windows open out vertically rather than slide up horizontally if that makes sense. Besides I only end up using it a few weeks out of the year then I'm back to using my central heating.
A mini-split system is probably the best for European houses if you can install it (honestly it's not that problematic, just requires a bit of tubing through a wall). It's not as flexible as a portable air conditioner but it's more efficient, a single indoor unit can usually cool a whole flat or a single-storey house, and most of them can do heating as well (quite efficiently as well!); if a single indoor unit is not enough (for large flats, multi-storey houses), a multi-split system can be installed. As someone from southeast Europe, it's always a bit of a shock when I read that northern European houses generally don't have AC. They're basically ubiquitous here, especially in newer or renovated buildings. Considering the climate change, I'm afraid north Europe will have to install AC more commonly as well.
AS boring as it might be for later videos, you could try to make a rescue station and put it in orbit around Kerbin or The Mun. It'd be a space station with multiple rescue pods that can be launched to pickup stranded Kerbals and bring them back to the station for later pickup, or back home.

Instead of timewarp being locked to "distance above surface" like it currently is, what if it was changed to "Time until impact with surface"? That way you still can't accidentally warp into a planet because warp speed lowers itself as impact gets nearer, but lower grav bodies will give more freedom and circular/escape orbits will have no upper limit because they're safe anyways

Rescue the Kerbal with a Miniature version of the Enterprise from Star Trek :D
I adore this build , might have to build one myself but envitably it won't work for me 😅 great work as always matt
You should send a taxi cab to save that kerbal stuck on the Mun
make a little space taxi that's like comically yellow to pick him up and charge him an enormous fare that puts him in life-ending debt : )
TIL 25c is a heatwave in uk. I don't put on short sleeves until 30 lol
7 minutes ago!
Matt you make me build amazing stuff. I love your channel. ALL HAIL MATT!
Great video. Instead of rescuing Bill, why do you just land a “survivor hut”, just a tin can with high speed internet and some protein bars.😊
Does anyone else feel the top gear robin reliant space shuttle vibes?
Hi Matt love the content Edit: use the same vehicle in this video to rescue them
When it comes to part clipping. I feel it’s ok as long as you can still see and tell that part is there. It’s when parts get completely hidden I don’t like
I thought this was a Space Engineers build for a sec
(being a KSP veteran and a SE beginner, SE physics is legitimately killing me tho lmao)
Huh. You could use that rover cockpit to make a pretty decent Millennium Falcon.
Just sayin' you could pick Bill up from the Mun in style.
I get what you mean 11:43 it was painful asscending from 1400 feet at 1.2 m/s on gillie
That's a really interesting-looking plane. It's always good to see a plane that just looks different.
"There's the Munny shot"? ;)
Nice takeoff! I always feel a little weird seeing (or piloting) a spaceplane using a rough surface as a runway, so it's great to see it smoothly pitch up for a clean liftoff.
Someone told me yesterday was the hottest day of the year. Bit odd for September.
This is pretty cool
everytime I watch one of your videos in the build section I think "wait, you can do that?"
Just got a new PS5! yes ok it’s been like 2 years BUT
I’ll finally be able to play without having like 6fps on my old ps4 slim 💀
Amazing. Will you ever do a KSP 1 video again?
I've made a couple of KSP 1 videos since KSP 2's release and they performed horribly, so the majority of my viewers want KSP 2 I guess. I've got some ideas for more KSP 1 videos but I'm prioritising KSP 2 for now.
@@MattLowne (from a viewers perspective) I personally don't think so.
the only KSP1 videos on your channel post KSP2 launch were the: Vall AI mission, The KSP1 vs KSP2 video and the RSS joke video
Regarding the Vall mission, it seems to have done just as well as the KSP2 Videos before and after it
The KSP1 Vs KSP2 video has only been out for 2 weeks so we can't draw any conclusions yet
The RRS video is an April fools joke and while being funny, these videos always seem to do terribly no matter what
I'm sure there are other statistics that make a difference (like watch time and dislikes) that I can't see
Either way, its always fun to watch these videos :)
edit : return RUclips dislike (it can only PREDICT dislikes) seems to support the Vall case
@@nether_bat Yeah the AI one did well. I was referring to the mini ISS video
@@MattLowne I don't think that the mini ISS video had enough originality (there were already single launch ISS and mini space station videos on the channel)
To avoid this issue in the future I would like to pitch an idea:
a modular surface base or space station system
need a lab? just add one
need a observatory? just add one
need a fuel refinery? just add one
need some more labs? just add thirty
*
*modifying after initial assembly is not recommended and may lead to issues such as: extremely difficult installations, kraken attacks and the accidental destruction of the entire outpost
Can we have a Blunderbirds episode to rescue Bill with a submarine launch?
Rescue bill with a top-gear level ambulance.
Matt you are 1 or maybe the first that let me learn english (im italian)
Star truck derp space 9!!! send a rover that picks up the kerbal and then gets back to kerbin under its own power. probs best to do this before re entry heating makes it impossible.
