Hello everyone! Unfortunately, during the making of this video, I had some major PC difficulties that I've still not managed to resolve. I was repeatedly getting BSOD every 5 minutes, and the act of driving the rover on Eve seemed to really really exacerbate the issue somehow. I therefore unfortunately made the difficult decision to use VesselMover to complete the journey to the lander. HOWEVER, I will state right now that as soon as I have figured out what is causing the repeated BSODs with my PC, and get it stable again, I will make a video (probably on my second channel) showing me make an uninterrupted journey with the rover, to prove beyond all doubt that it is possible
tell that to vanilla career mode on hard with kerbalism and deadly reentry and no quicksaves/reverting flights (except if the game glitches) tbf: the furthest I've gotten with this is Minmus, then my computer crashed and I lost everything edit: I am told that using mods is not vanilla, I am smort 🙃
Wish Matt would do a career mode walkthrough where newbies can't just tell the super-skilled pilot to target the other craft for docking etc. His excuse that it's just random missions can be skipped by just doing world first missions.
I never would have guessed Mart would've appeared, so glad he did his series on ksp is amazing. as soon as i saw "no thanks to Kevin" i almost lost it.
Now I want to see a Danny2462 rescue just to see how you manage to integrate a streamer/RUclipsr that only communicates via explosions, physics shenanigans and text overlays
18:24 use the trim function, then you can let the rover drive on "cruise control". That would be "alt-w", keep the alt and w keys pressed until you get the throttle wou want and let go.
Driving rovers long distances is probably the least fun thing that one can do in KSP (apart from pushing a stage with a kerbals RCS-pack) so I can very much feel the pain...... When KSP 0.21 was the latest KSP-build (old aerodynamics model, no fairings and no re-entry heating) I had the glorious idea to do a manned Eve mission... in order to save some delta-v I built a 200 ton return stage with WHEELS at the bottom so I could land on Eve, drive it up the tallest mountain and launch from there. It was a fantastic idea and went swimmingly.
Yeah, we really need some timewarp compatible autopilot features. Aircraft are less of a chore, but even they could do with improvement. Does anybody actually build aircraft for the low flight contracts, or just chuck suborbital rockets at them? Rovers are more important though, because we already spend months waiting for transfer windows, and it bugs me no end that my rover will be used for maybe 15 mins of that.
Rocket rovers man. Just shoot yourself and then land. Recover, shoot back. I normally have a lander in orbit to rescue kerbals easily. Eve is the outlier though. I’d have to sacrifice a lander each time anyone needs to come back up
@@agsystems8220 something like drawing a trajectory on a map, and the rover drives itself (at low speed even). You have to learn the parameters of the rover when moving and then apply some kind of average on the path. That is very possible to do

he meant as in terrier engine on the surface of eve, he uses it for orbital insertion, as eve's SURFACE gravity is way higher than any other planet (except jool) it also has the biggest atmosphere (means more drag) of any planet (except jool) so terriers wouldnt work for a lander taking off on land, but would work for an orbital insertion

Hey Matt. For you hands, get an allergist to test you for some stuff. I've been going 33 years with random rashes like you, but going about doing all the normal stuff. Turns out I'm allergic to Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) and it's a foaming agent/corrosive degreaser in almost everything. Dish soaps, shampoos, cleaning products etc. I've now been 2 weeks without any SLS products and my hands are almost fixed... check it out man!
Matt, mechjeb has a rover auto pilot that you lock the speed of the rover to and you can just leave it to drive itself to save a lot of hassel in the future
I love your channel for a few reasons, 1)you have an entertaining and down to earth personality, 2) you help me get ideas to make my ksp gameplay better, and 3) I listen to your videos while I play ksp, so I get info, entertainment, and ideas whilst I play Keep up the good work, love your channel!
Hey Matt, I found it better that you didn’t put the mystery guest on the thumbnail as to add suspicion on who it is, please continue to do this in the series
I would recommend you checking out the " von boyage " mod which makes it so that the rover will automatially drive to your desired target ( if it has electricity ) meaning that you can just leave it alone and timewarp till the rover gets to the target
Matt, you should get in touch with Piolet1549 for this series, he'd really enjoy being in one of your videos and does ksp content of his own, I don't know if you've watched any of it but he's getting reasonably popular.
19:23 well what I found, is that you can use a bunch of coins (or a few with something heavier on top like a small rock) to weigh down the key. works very nicely.
You should install the trajectories mod to know where you'll land after entry, for your sanity, also, can I be in one of the videos? I'm a huge fan and it was your solar space station video that inspired me to get KSP, please.
Plot twist: Kevin died, but one of his soldiers reignited Kevin’s wrath and captured mart and put him in eve using the exact same design as Obsons lander. Once that was done the soldier left back to Proxima Centauri, leaving Matt to save mart. Oh, and mart was trapped there for 2 years.

I’ve considered hooking a somewhat modified kerbal X to a refuel unit and dropping it on Eve. I’m pretty sure a kerbal X would be pretty simple to send there if it was drained completely of fuel at launch. And I’m about 99% sure it has the fuel needed to get back. Or at least back to orbit
