Lots of fun guys and interesting thanks for this video!
I'm right-handed but I play tennis with my weaker left hand (long story short, I started out playing badminton and took up tennis just for fun, but didn't want to ruin my badminton strokes so I used my left hand), so I think I'll find the Yonex Regna 98 too heavy for me, but the Yonex Regna 100 at 295 grams is just right, just like the Wilson Clash 100 I'm using. So I ordered the Regna 100 and boy, it is amazing. It's basically the Wilson Clash on steroids -- you get super power, super control, super touch, super spin. My slices are fantastic, my flat strokes just zoom, my topspins just fly. Love the racket. Worth every penny.
an easy fix for the grip is taking an old over grip fold it in half hotdog put it around the bottom of the handle then tape it. this makes the buttcap have a bigger flare at the end.
Can you do a video about where the pros racquets go after they play with them??…..are they sent back to manufacturer, available for sale, etc.
Its a great racquet in many ways, but still slightly prefer fhe Vcore 95 or 97 for control and ohbh. Regna was amazing at serves and volleys and quick forehand exchanges, spjn or flatting out; light, stable and comfortable hammer.
Haven't been able to give up my Yamaha Secret 04 after all these years. Would this convince me to switch?
Well done, guys! I live in Europe, the only continent (except Africa) where the Regna is not officially sold. I just got an Ezone Tour to test, which is awesome (hands down!) and the Regna 22 adresses my only issues with this frame (too stiff, too head heavy, too thick, too spinny, too fatiguing at the long run), so I just blew 1.000 Euros to order a pair of those (€ are more valuable than $, so guess what a fortune I spent!)
You better hope your recommendations are right, as on paper this stick looks like especially made for me. All specs are dead on target of what I would prefer.
Having the opportunity to hit both the 98 and 100, I actually preferred the 100 due to what I felt was a slight advantage in stability. I also enjoyed what I perceived to be just a smidgen more weight at the head so I suppose this explains why Yonex continues to offer this work of art in both sizes. Love the craftsmanship and classy optics. This ain't no licorice colored rainbow stick. On a non-related note, we all know that some of the fellas complaining of its price are the same players who have 20 assorted "nothing special" racquets resting on Amazon shoe racks. Better to have one amazing racquet than eight others that eventually are sent to eBay. I suppose it comes down to one question, "do you want to pay less to get less or pay more to get more?"
Dear Tennis Spin, what strings and tension do you recommend for Regna 98? I have one but it plays dull, perhaps wrong strings or tension...
Great review. Anytime I see Coach Gu will be in the video I click so fast. He’s my favourite!!!! 😀😀
have you try to add some weight to make it a better racket? wish to see your recommend customization spec :)
What did you string it with and tension?
Lucky man. What is the trade ?
Can you compare it to the blade v8? Thanks!

What would you think of this racquet on a full bed of natural gut? To me it seems that it’s built for natural gut and that its potential would be fully accomplished.
How this feel compare to old classic Yonex like the RD7? The back in the days Yonex had that feel missing in todays'.
I’d be surprised if coach Gu wasn’t surprised
What year is the frame?
So what did Aren get in returnfor this queen?
You should give that racquet to coach Gu to thank him for being in so many of your videos.
he probably gets free restringing from Harry?
Gu probably has a NDA contract for discounts from Harry
Just bought two of these, and they get here stateside next week, I’m very excited!
How do you like it now after some playing with them?
@@thelolguy007 If he won´t answer, I will.
Came from some heavily modified Blade V7 18/20 (350 g strung, all lead in the grip) and switched to an Ezone Tour. The Ezone Tour feels a little too heavy (head heavy) and a tiny little bit too stiff, and as I have a one handed backhand, it feels too spinny as well (I am ashamed to say so at all). The 2022 Regna adresses all these issues, it seems to be made espacially for me. Not too stiff, not too floppy, very controlled, but spinny enough for my forehand, not too heavy, but still good plough throug, thinner, but not as thin as 1990´s racquets..
All specs are in the very sweet spot of what I feel comfortable with, so I ordered a pair.
If the specs of the two racquets won´t differ too much I wil will keep them stock, which is a very lot to say, as I am used to 360 g racquets (strung weight). But my arm currently tells me that I will have to lower the weight substantially or it will just fall off or fail me in any other way.
The regular Ezone 98 (305 grams) is said to be a little unstable, weight definetely helps with that. I did not play it, started with the Tour, and I can only tell good things about it. It really crushes the ball, I can go full thrust to my forehand, and the ball still lands inside of the court! And "full thrust" is a lot on my forehand, I can litterally punch holes into the fence or pop balls if necessary! Did that in my adolescence days when 1st generation af Tretorn pressureless balls were mandatory, I had a habit of popping these cannon balls (and got some arm issues in the process).
Serves are incredible as well, first serves rarely come back to me, and even if they do, I can make short work of them.
My one handed backhand suffers from the transition from the Blade to the Ezone though, and this is where the Regna should come in handy. It has a little less spin than the Ezone, but more precision and control. Just the right amount to fill the gap between the Blade 18/20 and the Ezone Tour, combined with a tiny little less weight, both of my current racquets are merely bricks with a stick on them!
If the way from Australia to Europe is not too far, I will get my hand on them at mid February (my birthday) and will able to report about these holy grails of racquets.
Only drawback could be that only 6 strings come through the throat, making the sweet spot a little smaller, but I should be able to compensate for that.
And from what I heard, they should be strung loosely. I will start at 21 kg (46) lbs with a thin poly (115 to 117 mm / 17 to 18 Gauge).
So everything is set to make a huge success out of it. Failing is not an option, so be prepared to crush your bank account!
@@sebastiandomagala9233 sounds very encouraging mate. Very interesting also. I’ve heard nothing but good about them but can’t find any for sale 🤷♂️. Kinda puzzled as to why such a highly regarded stick is so hard to find?? And why aren’t any of the top Pro’s using them?? Surely if they were that good the Pro’s themselves would be showing them off? Either way I’d love the opportunity to get my hands on one also
@@thelolguy007 Maybe some do, but we will never know, they just wear the paint jobs of the current models for regular sale.
And if the stick is only half as good as advertised, who on earth would sell it? No wonder there are none for sale.
@@sebastiandomagala9233 your first point was very interesting indeed 👍. But your second, I was actually referring to their been no new models for sale
So how does the Regna 98 compare to the Vcore 98 Black?
Specs are almost the same, Regna 310 g unstrung / Vcore 305 g, same SW same RA same 16x19 string pattern.
I wonder...
I just got a pair of Regnas. I had been playing with Babolat PA VS, which is pretty stiff and I’ve been feeling some pain lately. So, I tried the vcore 98 but found it just a bit too muted/soft, so i got rid of it. The Regna however, just feels a lot better to hit with than the vcore. It’s a little stiffer than the vcore and has very good feel
What it do, Gu?!
If you and Coach Gu want to understand why Yonex has to use their expert craftsmen to produce the Regna (unlike the VCore and Ezone), this video (turn on English subtitles) explains: (the racket's frame use different materials at key parts of the frame, unlike other rackets which basically just use one material. So the Regna has one type of material for the throat, then another material for the four edges of the frame, another material for the sides, etc. If the Wilson Clash uses its frame design to produce the "clash of power and control", Yonex, on the other hand, uses various material at key parts of the frame to produce a "clash of power and control." And only a Yonex expert craftsman could get this made that way, that's why they can't really mass produce it and why it's so expensive) ruclips.net/video/sdapc13mYQM/видео.html
Tennis elbow entered the chat
Yes !!!!
So what was the trade?
Does Gu switch to Blade pro? how does he customize his blade pro?
I think he is using an H22, not blade.
@@tudorovidiuhanga6674 Blade Pro ≈ H22
@@jeanb.3493 👍
If it's that good, why would the person trade it with you for a different racquet? Obviously there's no "one racquet for all" solution but great video as always!
Internet points, and being a fan

Just got a matched pair of 2. Love the feel so far
From where?
@@atassisamer eBay, $700 for both. Used for an hour each and strung with gut and 4G.
fastest $700 I’ve ever spent. Was monitoring for new eBay listings for weeks
What tension to you string them at?
Online it says it’s 7 points head-light but you say it’s head-heavy???
I don’t even know what I like or want anymore. I thought I liked stiff racquets so I could feel the ball, then I liked flexible for comfort, then I liked heavy, then I liked lighter….have diadem elevate tour (teal one) and it’s pretty good has good control but thought I wanted more power so I got 98 clash older one and I like both! 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏻♂️ Was a 5.0 player now 4.5 getting older not sure what to do
Obviously you are quite versatile at selecting your swing style.
I tend to have an intense "Wow" feeling with any new racquet (except the ones that really don't suit me), followed by being hypercritical and finally dropping the stick again. Or playing around with lead until my arm hurts.
For your racquet search I would suggest to try an Ezone. It sits quite in the middle of everything, so you will be able to pull off anything you like. It is just a little too muted, I don't even feel a dampener (apart from it's weight) when swinging my Ezone Tour.
If anyone wants to buy one - Tennis only in Australia (affiliate of Tennis Warehouse USA / Europe) sell the 98 and 100 - but it's awfully expensive.
Earlier this summer I should’ve bought the Regna from TW when I had the chance. Didn’t know it’d be so limited and rare.
Not worth the price (IMO). I tried the 98 & 100. They both needed a lot of customization. The stock Vcore is better
Rds 001 my favorite 😊
looks like a Fisher from 1991 graphite/kevler 16/20
did they say $380 big ones?
It it cold there in SF? Coach Gu is wearing padded hooded jacket
i live in south florida it was not that cold that day but maybe they live in a more windy area
5 bandaids on harry's fingers? He's doing a nadal.
Stringers fingers, he has explained that before
Hi Man, I wanna know how to get the Regina 98 in Canada
Try eBay. That's where I got mine.

It is definitely HL...

Which rackets are similar to this Yonex Regna 98 ? How does it compare to the Wilson Pro Staff V13?
Thanks Harry and coach Andrew Gu for this great video !
The new Vcore is better
@@emjay2045 Only the Vcore 95, it's similar to that one, the other Vcores are too powerful for most
What was it like serving with it and how does it feel on the arm?
Tennis Nerd said it was a "beast" when he served with it. You can check out his review; I think he also seems very much unbiased...
Absolutely wonderful. Lots of free power, no arm pain for me at all
@@walterhayley7252 Yup, I saw it last week. Interesting to hear what the Spin team thought.
If it's so good, how come no one on the tour uses it?
'Cuz Yonex can't mass produce it, so it's useless to promote it. It's like a concept car. The reason it can't be mass-produced is because it's made in a very painstaking, special way. This video (turn on English subtitles) explains: ruclips.net/video/sdapc13mYQM/видео.html
Wish it came in a 90 sq inch.
The Best Racquets I ever hit with was the Head Ashe computition
Wasn't that some 30 years ago?
Cold in there?

How much should I expect to pay for this racquet?
In Japan they run the rough equivalent of around $360 usd...
$380. TW had them for awhile

How much is the regna 98 in Japan?

Aesthetically beautiful. A perfect match with a Geau Sport Axiom Tennis bag.
I can confirm, it's beautiful with the Axiom bag.
@@aaronjohnson7992 I'm jealous. I haven't even had the opportunity to test out this racquet, let alone own one.
I tried it. I liked my prince pog more
Are these things actually for sale? wtf
Never heard of these before but I watched a few more reviews and it looks like they may not be the best for those with sensitive arms.
Yeah, I've heard the same thing.
I have a brief history of tennis elbow, and a much longer history of joint and tendon problems (genetics). I have now played with a Regna 98 for maybe 6-7 months, and I have seen my elbow condition slowly improving. I truly don't know if my technique has gotten better, or if it is the racket (70 years old, and playing tennis for just over 18 months now)...
@@walterhayley7252 I had a severe case back around 2010 and had to take six months off. I have been able to play since then but I've stuck to racquets with flex rating of 62 or lower with the exception of the RF97 which has a very good Twistweight to compensate for the stiffness. I generally use heavy, flexible racquet with full poly around 50-51 and I cut out the poly after eight hours. Many players told me that my arm problems were due to dead poly and they are likely correct. The thing is that I found that I couldn't use light, stiff racquets after recovering from the injury. 65 would be pretty high for me unless it had a high twistweight. The reviewers that I've watched hint that this isn't the best racquet if you have TE issues.

Was this a limited edition racquet? Are they still being made?
Yonex says they put their best people on these rackets (making them). I think I saw a video that said they only make about 200 a month (that figure may be wrong). I live in Japan, and it only took me a week to get a 98. The 100s were more readily available. TW did a tour of the factory, and they talked about the racket a bit. I don't have the link right now, but you should be able to find it pretty easily. Yes, they still make these rackets... came back to share the link: ruclips.net/video/i2WJI29jGx0/видео.html
@@walterhayley7252 is it also double the price of other rackets in Japan?

Basically a. Classic prostaff 6.1
I was thinking the same thing
I've tried a prostaff. The Regna is a lot easier to use. It's easier to swing. The prostaff is too heavy.
Wanna 2 yonex backpax
Faca si
Unfortunately there is not such thing as a "best racket" 😜😜😜
The Regna looks awesome, but that price is not worth it. If yonex made more with a price reduction, then the company would have made more money. I do not understand limiting a great product. Special paint jobs I get for collecting, but at the price I would not want to wear the frame out.
Come on guys, it's nice you like the racquet, but as you know, racquet preference is highly individual and just because something is rare and expensive doesn't mean it's a rational decision to buy it.
5:10 this is what I hate about Yonex, their buttcaps have no flair and no substantial feel
I had vcp97hd before, and sold it because of that reason! Love HEAD buttcaps, feels like home
if you're using an overgrip then you can do the folding method that coach chris showed us in one of the previous videos. that's what i do.
It's easy to customise the shape of the end of your handle. I cut a thin strip of old grip and wrap it around the end before putting the actual grip over it. I've also done the same with lead tape before when I also wanted more weight there. Enjoy.
You may be able to use a different buttcap on it. Other approaches would be to staple some material to the bottom of the buttcap. Or you could go Gasquet.
Gamma supreme white....best overgrip ever
