This video made me fall in love with the joker. I love how youre talking about bruce grieving the death of his son and then you slip in "The Joker is an ambassador for Iran now - He stole EVERY baby"
My favorite thing is people talking about comic books and they’re like “oh yeah and Stephanie’s back turns out she faked her dying on a hospital bed” or “yeah superboy punched a hole in reality and now Jason has been resurrected, he just does that sometimes” like I swear this happens to every character who dies in a comic and it’s always the funniest thing ever

Ok wait for real, mad props for including all the writers and artists in the credits, with the history the comics industry has with crediting writers and artists properly, that's so nice to see
tbh I'd have preferred it if he mentioned the names of the writers and artists a bit more often in the video itself, but its still a nice gesture nonetheless
39:06 That panel is straight up horrifying, the way it shot with Tim looking dead at the reader, clutching onto Bruce who’s shadow is partially obscuring Tim’s face, with his dad in the background. It’s really well composed, goddamn.
The fact that you were able to find these core, running themes that are consistent in nearly a century's worth of comics across hundreds of writers and creative teams is incredible. It makes these comics, a medium derided for having an impenetrable barrier of constant retcons and reboots feel like one continuing unbroken narrative where everything has been exactly planned out from the very start. Great stuff...now when's the Superman version of this?
I absolutely agree. It’s actually inspiring to see someone make a point of going through Batmans history to learn about the ongoing themes, which prevents it from being a dull recap for both creator and viewer

Alex reading as many batman comics as he has for this video is like Arkham Batman solving all those goddamn Riddler's Revenge challenges. And we can't express our appreciation enough lol
No way, it’s finally here! Thank you so much Alex for the level of effort you put into your vids, it always shines through! Alex you are soooo Batman, and making this vid was really Batman of you!
This was genuinely really helpful! I realized how little I knew about the iconic Batman, and this just summarized it so well and only in an hour! Thank you!
IMHO, Batman’s greatest attribute is his willpower. Despite going through borderline nightmarish situations in his life, he never backs down and tries to keep moving forward, facing the darkness.
I sincerely do not understand how you are not a top youtuber. The time, the commentary, and the overall commitment to your videos all whilst staying yourself. I said it in the spiderman video and ill say it again. You’re amazing dude!
From one hand, this is one of the best videos about superheroes I've watched. You describe this long and complex story in a simple manner whilst retaining all of its deep elements. On the other hand, each section is so freaking crazy, I'm starting to believe that the batman comics I have been changing ever so slightly in a Mandela Effect way and I'm going crazy. Thank you either way!
Great video! Can’t help but say that you missed when Bruce was framed for murder by Cassandra’s father and ditched the Bruce Wayne identity eventually facing the trauma of Knightfall, Contagion and No Mans Land. It was a really nice conclusion to everything the 90s built I think.
I was also hoping he would add that in there but I guess when you're condensing 2000 issues of comics into a single video there's stuff you can't include. Although I don't think anyone would've complained if he made a 5 or 7 hour long video going further into detail on these stories.
How you were able to cover 2000 issues of Batman history in a little over an hour is anyone's guess. The amount of time and effort put into this is bonkers. Props to you Alex. Good video 👍
Your “history of…” videos are so much fun to watch from your commentary being funny and insightful. I was vaguely aware of Batman’s most famous stories, but your analysis gave me greater understanding of them.
I really appreciate the work you put into these videos. I know this may get lost in the comments, but I genuinely appreciate these types of videos! Thank you!
Batman was def one of the characters I never got into in comics, yeah I watched JL & JLU,his animated & LA movies but his comic counterpart always seemed to be so different to his animated counterparts because everyone sees the idea of batman so differently its not like spider-man where everyone knows he's a witty dork who's doing the best he can, this video will def help thanks!!
Been waiting for this video for months, glad you finally got this behemoth out. Hope you take a break Alex Also nice song on the implemencity pretension
I would love to see you do this for more characters, but I know this takes a crazy amount of time. I don’t want to end up getting one vid a year… but I need more of this 😭
As a fellow comic RUclipsr I just wanted to compliment you on this video. I always wanted to do a complete history of a character video, but never got around to it, stumbled on this video and thought it was a really solid summary.
Now we'd need a video about the history of Superman and Wonder Woman and we'd get the trinity. But arguably, Flash is the one who would stand out the most since he's kinda like Spiderman in some respects
If we are doing history videos lets get a history of the lanterns since there is an ungodly amount of them and i really just want him to talk about everyone's favorite godking larfleeze
This is the first video I’ve seen from you and I have to say that I’m blown away. Incredible video. Couldn’t peel myself away from it. Thank you, truly.
Honestly, amazing job man. Not only was the video entertaining but just like the Spider-Man one, you gave us an honest history to people who never know where to start with all these comics. Keep up the great work! I would recommend maybe doing Superman next for a real challenge hahah
Genuinely one of the best Batman videos I’ve seen on RUclips. I enjoyed watching this so, so much. Thank you for all the effort you put in to this. Truly. Now…Superman next?😉
Very excellent video, I feel as though Batman gets a lot of love put into his stories which I respect because he’s probably one of my favorite heroes, I honestly thought you left RUclips, you didn’t upload anything the entire time I had summer break, but I’m happy to watch this video ( also I highly agree the whirly bat is a menace to society).
Hello, Alex. I have watched several of your videos, but this one…..this video was the one that earned yourself another subscriber. 👍🏻👍🏻 As a Batman fan for as long as I can remember, this recap/review/analysis of Batman’s 85 year comic book history is one of the most definitive videos on this iconic character that I have ever watched. It has made me love and appreciate Batman and his larger mythos even more now, so thank you for that. 😁😁👍🏻👍🏻 And Happy 85th Anniversary, Dark Knight! Here is to the future! 👍🏻👍🏻🔥🔥🦇🦇
I love that throughout this hour long video documenting the entire history of the character, detailing every side character, story arc, and continuity shift, every so often you still hear some variation of the phrase "And then Lucius got fucked" just sprinkled in there.
now you just need to summarise wtf is happening in batman and spiderman comics nowdays and you channel will forever be up to date with comics, this way we’ll never need to read again, thanks 👺
I have to say nothing is funnier to me than Dick Grayson. He’s just this nine year old kid that goes up to Batman and is like “my parents are dead I want to fight crime” and Batman just goes “ok why not” and suddenly he’s his sidekick. Like he’s 9

Dude you are a champ. This was such an insightful and beautiful. I am an avid and adamant Batman fan. If anyone ever asks me how to learn about Batman I am sending them here to this video.
Thanks, Alex, for dedicating a video about Batman, my favourite superhero of all time!
This was genuinely really helpful! I realized how little I knew about the iconic Batman, and this just summarized it so well and only in an hour! Thank you!
Great timing I am going through my yearly Batman phase and I feel so caught up! Look forward to more Batman stories!
Awesome work, dude! These videos of yours really have me want to try something similar with characters like Power Girl or Spider-Girl.
IMHO, Batman’s greatest attribute is his willpower. Despite going through borderline nightmarish situations in his life, he never backs down and tries to keep moving forward, facing the darkness.
Never Backs Down Never what?
I sincerely do not understand how you are not a top youtuber. The time, the commentary, and the overall commitment to your videos all whilst staying yourself. I said it in the spiderman video and ill say it again. You’re amazing dude!
You need to be screaming while making a soy face as thumbnail to be the top RUclipsr
Stellar video, I was surprised how short the video was but you really packed all the necessary info into one hour.
@@725ken yeah i strongly agree
I also hoped he would mention pig or pyg as some call it he's like the most terrifying batmen villain and one of my favourites
How you were able to cover 2000 issues of Batman history in a little over an hour is anyone's guess. The amount of time and effort put into this is bonkers. Props to you Alex. Good video 👍
Another Magnum Opus Alex, always a joy to have you talk about your love for these characters.
Be well.
Your “history of…” videos are so much fun to watch from your commentary being funny and insightful.
I was vaguely aware of Batman’s most famous stories, but your analysis gave me greater understanding of them.
I’d love to see this series go on. This is quite honestly amazing. One on Daredevil or Punisher would be awesome
You do so much stuff just for us, your viewers❤
So much dedication just to see the history of the dark knight is crazy
I'm going to rewatch this video so many times for the next couple of years. Thank you 🙏
Fantastic video. One of those i will be rewatching for years. Thank you!
Your analysis of batmans villains being wicked aspects of himself is great.that si why i subbed and liked.well done!
Great video, Alex. What a monumental task covering one of the most iconic characters in fiction in this way. Looking forward to your future content.
The unofficial sequel to Spiderman in 70 seconds
my boy
Huge respect to you bro, u r so underrated it’s painful, I’m excited to see ur next vids
First time I actually watched an hour+ video with full attention not looking away from the screen love the commentary
I feel comic Batman shares basic components with his animated versions personality wise
@Galvatronover especially the animated series !
Such dedication. I really appreciate deep dive channels like yours
Been waiting for this video for months, glad you finally got this behemoth out.
Hope you take a break Alex
Also nice song on the implemencity pretension
I would love to see you do this for more characters, but I know this takes a crazy amount of time. I don’t want to end up getting one vid a year… but I need more of this 😭
As a fellow comic RUclipsr I just wanted to compliment you on this video. I always wanted to do a complete history of a character video, but never got around to it, stumbled on this video and thought it was a really solid summary.
Finally, some good content on RUclips
How did joker become the embasador of iran😭
BAHAHAHAHA-
Who tf knows 😂
Comics are weird
Uranium.
Yes
Now we'd need a video about the history of Superman and Wonder Woman and we'd get the trinity. But arguably, Flash is the one who would stand out the most since he's kinda like Spiderman in some respects
If we are doing history videos lets get a history of the lanterns since there is an ungodly amount of them and i really just want him to talk about everyone's favorite godking larfleeze
This is the first video I’ve seen from you and I have to say that I’m blown away. Incredible video. Couldn’t peel myself away from it. Thank you, truly.
I just found this channel, and wow. These videos are amazing man thank you for all of the hard work and dedication.
Honestly, amazing job man. Not only was the video entertaining but just like the Spider-Man one, you gave us an honest history to people who never know where to start with all these comics. Keep up the great work! I would recommend maybe doing Superman next for a real challenge hahah
man, this 1 hour long video was so good that i finished it 21 minutes after it was uploaded.
Genuinely one of the best Batman videos I’ve seen on RUclips. I enjoyed watching this so, so much. Thank you for all the effort you put in to this. Truly.
Now…Superman next?😉
Great video and thanks for your hard and dedication,Batman has long and creative history and is one of my favorite comic book heroes.
those whole "biography" are just amazing, kuddos to all your effort mate!
Props for this guy for the sheer amount of material he has to go through just to make these videos.
Poor Bruce. The writers will never let him rest.
Like he’s 9
Dude your a legend for this full story videos love your work
oh my god this was amazing THANK YOU FOR THISSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! Batmans story is crazy and you made it make as much sense as it can. your efforts are DEEPLY appreciated and I'm glad the power of friendship helped u through this video just as it helped batman
Great video and it was awesome of you to give Sal a shout-out
such a great video, amazing explanation!! I could never get into comics myself, but this filled the big batman questionmark in my mind. gonna go watch the spiderman video next
I'm surprised he didn't mention pig the serial killer he was also in arkham knight if you've heard of those games on of my favourite batman villans
Wow! This is a complete gem. I admire your dedication and hard work. Its AMAZING.

Dude your a legend for this video. I've been slowly getting through the earlier Batman stories and this helps a lot.
Holy shit! One of the best video essays I’ve ever seen, comics or otherwise.
Have to ask, since you read an ungodly amount of issues of Batman, what would you say are your favorite stories you read?
fortnite
I have a soft spot for Morrison’s run, especially towards the end when it revisits the bell scene from Year One. I didn’t care much for Return of Bruce Wayne but the ending is just so powerful to me
@@alexlennen if your still taking questions, why did you not talk about the vital Zero War comics?
@@spongytrout7462deserves its own video tbh
So worth the wait!!!!
Absolute legendary video. Loved the summary.
An amazing video thank you for your time and effort that you put into it, as a Batman fan of 51 years I enjoyed every moment
This has to be one of the coolest videos I have ever seen.
