This video was my introduction to your channel. I watch a lot of similar content on other channels, and I think you bring something different to this YT genre than other creators. First, the overall flow of your own dialogue supplemented with scenes from god-only-knows how many comics was outstanding. Seriously-- bravo for retelling of the entire history of the freaking Batman in a concise and easy to follow narrative. The quality of your editing-- the intentional pauses to insert a wry comment or make a joke-- was really well done. You guys both did so well and the videos compliment each other.
Thank you so much for this video. It not only allows me to appreciate Batman more as a character and motivate me to read some of his comics, but it also shows an interesting glance at his history. Seeing how much he’s changed as a character along with where he’s going.
Something to mention is that in one of the latest issues of Batman he goes on a multiverse journey against an alternate joker (but not joker) who is creating jokers throughout the multiverse and meets tons of alternate batmen on the way including but not limited to, Adam west batman, DCAU batman (both batman beyond and Justice League), arkham batman, Dark Knight returns batman and then declares adam west batman to be his favourite as he is the best prepared when he discovers in a borrowed utility belt the wonder or shark repellent.
There was an excellent moment during the Knightfall arc where Batman was still dealing with the criminals Bane set free, and Robin was trying to convince him to call other heroes for help. But Batman said he couldn't because he knew things were just as bad elswhere. And the way that scene was written, his interaction with Robin in that moment (at least im pretty sure it was robin) is one of the many reasons i love Batman
Dude you are a champ. This was such an insightful and beautiful. I am an avid and adamant Batman fan. If anyone ever asks me how to learn about Batman I am sending them here to this video.
This was genuinely really helpful! I realized how little I knew about the iconic Batman, and this just summarized it so well and only in an hour! Thank you!
Alex reading as many batman comics as he has for this video is like Arkham Batman solving all those goddamn Riddler's Revenge challenges. And we can't express our appreciation enough lol
I sincerely do not understand how you are not a top youtuber. The time, the commentary, and the overall commitment to your videos all whilst staying yourself. I said it in the spiderman video and ill say it again. You’re amazing dude!
From one hand, this is one of the best videos about superheroes I've watched. You describe this long and complex story in a simple manner whilst retaining all of its deep elements. On the other hand, each section is so freaking crazy, I'm starting to believe that the batman comics I have been changing ever so slightly in a Mandela Effect way and I'm going crazy. Thank you either way!
Wow im very happy I was recommended this video. Thanks for taking the time to make this! I do not have the time to watch it entirely right now but I will definitely be saving it to my watch later and check it out tonight! Thanks again!
Great video! Can’t help but say that you missed when Bruce was framed for murder by Cassandra’s father and ditched the Bruce Wayne identity eventually facing the trauma of Knightfall, Contagion and No Mans Land. It was a really nice conclusion to everything the 90s built I think.
I was also hoping he would add that in there but I guess when you're condensing 2000 issues of comics into a single video there's stuff you can't include. Although I don't think anyone would've complained if he made a 5 or 7 hour long video going further into detail on these stories.
Your “history of…” videos are so much fun to watch from your commentary being funny and insightful. I was vaguely aware of Batman’s most famous stories, but your analysis gave me greater understanding of them.
No way, it’s finally here! Thank you so much Alex for the level of effort you put into your vids, it always shines through! Alex you are soooo Batman, and making this vid was really Batman of you!
How you were able to cover 2000 issues of Batman history in a little over an hour is anyone's guess. The amount of time and effort put into this is bonkers. Props to you Alex. Good video 👍
I would love to see you do this for more characters, but I know this takes a crazy amount of time. I don’t want to end up getting one vid a year… but I need more of this 😭
IMHO, Batman’s greatest attribute is his willpower. Despite going through borderline nightmarish situations in his life, he never backs down and tries to keep moving forward, facing the darkness.
This is the first video I’ve seen from you and I have to say that I’m blown away. Incredible video. Couldn’t peel myself away from it. Thank you, truly.
Hello, Alex. I have watched several of your videos, but this one…..this video was the one that earned yourself another subscriber. 👍🏻👍🏻 As a Batman fan for as long as I can remember, this recap/review/analysis of Batman’s 85 year comic book history is one of the most definitive videos on this iconic character that I have ever watched. It has made me love and appreciate Batman and his larger mythos even more now, so thank you for that. 😁😁👍🏻👍🏻 And Happy 85th Anniversary, Dark Knight! Here is to the future! 👍🏻👍🏻🔥🔥🦇🦇
Honestly, amazing job man. Not only was the video entertaining but just like the Spider-Man one, you gave us an honest history to people who never know where to start with all these comics. Keep up the great work! I would recommend maybe doing Superman next for a real challenge hahah

Very excellent video, I feel as though Batman gets a lot of love put into his stories which I respect because he’s probably one of my favorite heroes, I honestly thought you left RUclips, you didn’t upload anything the entire time I had summer break, but I’m happy to watch this video ( also I highly agree the whirly bat is a menace to society).

As a fellow comic RUclipsr I just wanted to compliment you on this video. I always wanted to do a complete history of a character video, but never got around to it, stumbled on this video and thought it was a really solid summary.

I really appreciate the work you put into these videos. I know this may get lost in the comments, but I genuinely appreciate these types of videos! Thank you!
I love that throughout this hour long video documenting the entire history of the character, detailing every side character, story arc, and continuity shift, every so often you still hear some variation of the phrase "And then Lucius got fucked" just sprinkled in there.
Batman was def one of the characters I never got into in comics, yeah I watched JL & JLU,his animated & LA movies but his comic counterpart always seemed to be so different to his animated counterparts because everyone sees the idea of batman so differently its not like spider-man where everyone knows he's a witty dork who's doing the best he can, this video will def help thanks!!
such a great video, amazing explanation!! I could never get into comics myself, but this filled the big batman questionmark in my mind. gonna go watch the spiderman video next
Now we'd need a video about the history of Superman and Wonder Woman and we'd get the trinity. But arguably, Flash is the one who would stand out the most since he's kinda like Spiderman in some respects
If we are doing history videos lets get a history of the lanterns since there is an ungodly amount of them and i really just want him to talk about everyone's favorite godking larfleeze
I've read every batman comic from 1939-2005 so far and most of the stuff since then. Putting something like this together is no small feat, and you did a great job highlighting the most important bits. The two things that struck me most reading it for myself, is how virtually every important core aspect of batman is present within the first two years, or at least during the golden age. Secondly, the beginning of engleharts batman run in the late 70's was the first time I went, 'holy shit, this is the first appearance of the modern batman.' It's an utter tragedy he wasn't on the book longer.

You’ll begin to realize there’s two distinct eras of Batman, split completely down the middle. There’s the Detective Era and the Hero Era. The Detective Era consists of Batman’s early years as a mysterious vigilante. Where he solves crimes, and puts fear into criminals and the public sees him as a urban legend. His only sidekicks were Dick Grayson Robin, and Barbara Gordon Batgirl. His supervillains started popping up and has a shaky relationship with the Police with the exception of Jim Gordon. The Hero Era consists of Batman joining The Justice League, getting involved big scale, end of the world, cosmic adventures. Gaining an entire pantheon of sidekicks, and becoming the prep time having, keeping secret files on his friends because paranoid mentality, always one step ahead, OP Batgod himself.
I think the Arkham games find a good balance with that. You still have the detective and fear side of things, with the grand scale and pantheon of side kicks, albeit no Justice League or really anyone outside of the Bat Family, but still.
Wow man I never thought you would ever do a Batman history video but as a huge Batman fan this is such a welcome surprise. I hope you do more characters in the future

Awesome work, dude! These videos of yours really have me want to try something similar with characters like Power Girl or Spider-Girl.
I was not expecting Batman having a happy ending in the golden age to be so damn emotional
I sincerely do not understand how you are not a top youtuber. The time, the commentary, and the overall commitment to your videos all whilst staying yourself. I said it in the spiderman video and ill say it again. You’re amazing dude!
You need to be screaming while making a soy face as thumbnail to be the top RUclipsr
@@725ken yeah i strongly agree
I also hoped he would mention pig or pyg as some call it he's like the most terrifying batmen villain and one of my favourites
Thanks, Alex, for dedicating a video about Batman, my favourite superhero of all time!
I'm going to rewatch this video so many times for the next couple of years. Thank you 🙏
Your “history of…” videos are so much fun to watch from your commentary being funny and insightful.
I was vaguely aware of Batman’s most famous stories, but your analysis gave me greater understanding of them.
Stellar video, I was surprised how short the video was but you really packed all the necessary info into one hour.
No way, it’s finally here! Thank you so much Alex for the level of effort you put into your vids, it always shines through!
Alex you are soooo Batman, and making this vid was really Batman of you!
Another Magnum Opus Alex, always a joy to have you talk about your love for these characters.
Be well.
So much dedication just to see the history of the dark knight is crazy
Great timing I am going through my yearly Batman phase and I feel so caught up! Look forward to more Batman stories!
The fact that Robin has been around longer than Alfred messes with my head for some reason
How you were able to cover 2000 issues of Batman history in a little over an hour is anyone's guess. The amount of time and effort put into this is bonkers. Props to you Alex. Good video 👍
Great video, Alex. What a monumental task covering one of the most iconic characters in fiction in this way. Looking forward to your future content.
You do so much stuff just for us, your viewers❤
I would love to see you do this for more characters, but I know this takes a crazy amount of time. I don’t want to end up getting one vid a year… but I need more of this 😭
Your analysis of batmans villains being wicked aspects of himself is great.that si why i subbed and liked.well done!
IMHO, Batman’s greatest attribute is his willpower. Despite going through borderline nightmarish situations in his life, he never backs down and tries to keep moving forward, facing the darkness.
Never Backs Down Never what?
Fantastic video. One of those i will be rewatching for years. Thank you!
Huge respect to you bro, u r so underrated it’s painful, I’m excited to see ur next vids
I’d love to see this series go on. This is quite honestly amazing. One on Daredevil or Punisher would be awesome
Such dedication. I really appreciate deep dive channels like yours
Honestly, amazing job man. Not only was the video entertaining but just like the Spider-Man one, you gave us an honest history to people who never know where to start with all these comics. Keep up the great work! I would recommend maybe doing Superman next for a real challenge hahah
I just found this channel, and wow. These videos are amazing man thank you for all of the hard work and dedication.
Great video and thanks for your hard and dedication,Batman has long and creative history and is one of my favorite comic book heroes.
Been waiting for this video for months, glad you finally got this behemoth out.
Hope you take a break Alex
Also nice song on the implemencity pretension
Very excellent video, I feel as though Batman gets a lot of love put into his stories which I respect because he’s probably one of my favorite heroes, I honestly thought you left RUclips, you didn’t upload anything the entire time I had summer break, but I’m happy to watch this video ( also I highly agree the whirly bat is a menace to society).
Finally, some good content on RUclips
oh my god this was amazing THANK YOU FOR THISSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! Batmans story is crazy and you made it make as much sense as it can. your efforts are DEEPLY appreciated and I'm glad the power of friendship helped u through this video just as it helped batman
As a fellow comic RUclipsr I just wanted to compliment you on this video. I always wanted to do a complete history of a character video, but never got around to it, stumbled on this video and thought it was a really solid summary.
Genuinely one of the best Batman videos I’ve seen on RUclips. I enjoyed watching this so, so much. Thank you for all the effort you put in to this. Truly.
Now…Superman next?😉
I really appreciate the work you put into these videos. I know this may get lost in the comments, but I genuinely appreciate these types of videos! Thank you!
Absolute legendary video. Loved the summary.
I love that throughout this hour long video documenting the entire history of the character, detailing every side character, story arc, and continuity shift, every so often you still hear some variation of the phrase "And then Lucius got fucked" just sprinkled in there.
those whole "biography" are just amazing, kuddos to all your effort mate!
I feel comic Batman shares basic components with his animated versions personality wise
@Galvatronover especially the animated series !
The unofficial sequel to Spiderman in 70 seconds
my boy
So worth the wait!!!!
First time I actually watched an hour+ video with full attention not looking away from the screen love the commentary
Dude your a legend for this video. I've been slowly getting through the earlier Batman stories and this helps a lot.
Wow! This is a complete gem. I admire your dedication and hard work. Its AMAZING.
man, this 1 hour long video was so good that i finished it 21 minutes after it was uploaded.
Dude your a legend for this full story videos love your work
Holy shit! One of the best video essays I’ve ever seen, comics or otherwise.
Great video and it was awesome of you to give Sal a shout-out
such a great video, amazing explanation!! I could never get into comics myself, but this filled the big batman questionmark in my mind. gonna go watch the spiderman video next
I'm surprised he didn't mention pig the serial killer he was also in arkham knight if you've heard of those games on of my favourite batman villans
What a great video. I also loved your Spider-Man stuff
I sat through the credits in absolute still silence, you have such an amazing voice for this.
This has to be one of the coolest videos I have ever seen.

Broooo what rendition of “you are not alone” is that at the end, it’s so good 😭
