I’ve had my ps3 for 10 years and am finally selling as I haven’t used it in the past 3yrs 😢 sad to see this go. As someone who has no friends this was my best friend during those years. I’m going to miss it very much. Thank you for the memories, ps3. I’ll always remember and love you.
The difference between a quick format and a full format is that a quick format will only mark that the data on the PS3 hard drive is deleted. A full format actually rewrites the data on the ps3 hard drive so that its is unreadable. The PS3 hard drive is actually divided into two areas one for the OS and one for data. When returning back to factory defaults the OS part is left intact. So your PS3 will stay on the current Firmware, but wipe out your account, games data and any games updates
My PS3 gets stuck on 1% (no freezing, the number just doesn't jump up to 2%) every time I attempt to start a full format so I have no choice but to cancel it. Very annoying and there isn't a single answer for this anywhere.
@@ArthurShelby-PB Try performing a reset from within Safe mode instead. Safe mode is a bare metal mode that might get you past the 1% mark. @@subhanarif5569 A quick format basically just marks your data so that it can be overwritten in the future. While a full format will overwrite all data with either a 1 or a 0. So a full format will be more secure. As to how long a full format will take to complete. That will depend on the size and speed that the hard drive fitted to your PS3 can write data. So it could take anything up to a day to complete.
@VANS2free It could be a sync issue try resetting your controller 1. Turn the system off till only the red light is on the console 2. Use a ball point pen/pin and reset the controller (hold down for more than 5 seconds) The reset button is located in the back of controller. 3: Plug the controller in using the USB cable and try again

You can reset using the following but its more fiddly. Reminder: If "possible" make sure you have a backup of any data on the HD you want to keep, as the HD will get formatted. 1. Power Off the PS3. 2. Hold Power Button until you hear 3 beeps. (I found that it did not work the first time i tried, other have had the same problem) 3. Now choose Restore PS3 System If you have problems hunt around as others have posted RUclips videos showing you how to do this technique. Good luck.
Yes you can. Insert your HD or USB thumb drive. From the Cross bar menu choose Game - Saved Data Utility (PS3) A list of game saves will be shown. While highlighting a game save choose Options - Copy and select your destination i.e. HD or USB thumb drive.
@MegaBigtuna12 Did you make a backup copy of the save files to USB before you did the wipe and then restore them after the restore is complete? I believe these are the file that store the weapons, level etc.
Probably not, it sounds like you have a faulty blu ray drive. I heard that certain models of PS3 are susceptible to this problem. If the PS3 is under warranty I would suggest calling Sony?
@iamspid3rman No, a factory restore will only wipe settings, game saves, downloads etc from the PS3. if you wish to revert back to an older firmware, you will have to try and reinstall the firmware onto your PS3's hd. While this is not something I have done myself, I would guess that you could do this one of two ways. Either by doing an over the top reinstall of the older firmware, or by wiping the hd first and then installing 3.xx using a USB thumb drive. Hope that helps and good luck.
It would not help with general slowness in games. However, you can save all of your saved games data to a USB drive. From the menu choose Game - Saved Data Utility (PS3) Select the game saves you want to backup. Click on Options and choose Copy to save to Game Save to USB drive.
@xxpyroxsamxx There are a couple of things you can try: 1. Turn off PS3 (so its in standby) 2. Now turn on PS3 but keep your finger held down on the power button. 3. It will beep 3 times (One beep a pause and then two beeps in quick succession) Note it may not give you three beeps the first time you try it so try again 4. After the free beeps release the power button. 5. You will be asked to connect the controller 6. At the menu choose Restore PS3 system Good luck and let me know if it works.
Hi Chad, Im not really the best person to ask a jailbreaking question, but I would guess that a factory reset would not erase the jailbreak. Instead imagine the factory reset as leaving the Jailbroken PS3 OS intact, but removing the user profiles and wiping all game and save data. You could try downloading the latest firmware from the Sony website to a USB stick and installing that. Can anyone else offer some advice to Chad?
If I choose full format, it’s supposed to look like yours at the end? Asking you to connect the controller? And if I did this I don’t have to worry about my account? It’s going to sign out?
Unfortunately not. To remove the jailbreak you are going to have to remove the PS3 HD, format and delete the partition on the HD using a computer. Download the latest firmware from Sony and place it on a USB thumb drive (USB folder structure has to be PS3/Update/ stick update in the Update folder). Reinsert your HD into the PS3, plug in the USB drive and follow the onscreen instructions to install the PS3 OS back onto your blank HD. Hope that all make sense.
You'll need a paperclip. On the back of the PS3 controller is a reset switch. Its located to the right of the screw found above the sticker. Press the reset button. Next connect the controller to the PS3 using the USB lead. Pressing the PS button on the controller should reset and sync your control.
@1140kamran No each time you update the firmware on your PS3, the old version of the firmware is removed as the new one is installed. So if you are on version 4.4 for example after a factory reset it will still be on version 4.4
@xxpyroxsamxx It sounds like either your hard drive has developed a fault and/or the operating system has become corrupted. You have three options all are veriations on the same theme: Option 1 - 1. Download the latest firmware from the sony site. 2. Upload the firmware to a usb thumb drive in a folder called Update 3. See if your PS3 will recognize the USB drive and reinstall the operating system to your Hard drive
@CruLePreDaToR Yes you can. Alternatively, if you intend to sell or give away your PS3 I would recommend that you press x and allow the PS3 to restart. That way you know that the PS3 will work for the next person. Then when you get to the screen asking you to connect the PS3 controller, switch off the console. The next time the PS3 is started it will show the connect controller screen.
Apologies, my poor explanation. Basically, Sony do not allow people to delete any PSN account once they are created. What I was trying to explain is that because your are wiping your PS3 back to factory defaults when you restart the PS3 your PSN account will have also been removed from the console. You just need to retype your PSN account details when you re-setup the wiped PS3. Hope that clears things up.
I understand that when you quick format the ps3, all your saves etc will be deleted, but will your trophies be deleted too? Also, to get the psn account back all you need to do is sign in again right, and you'll see all your friends and messages and stuff there?
good video many thanks, if i sell my ps3 and i do a factory reset do i still own my original psn account to use on another system? and do all my sign in details remain the same?
No. Both quick format and full format remove only the data on the hard drive. A quick format will simply mark the sectors on the hard drive as blank, while a full format will over write the sectors on the hard drive. A full format will take longer to complete. The PS3 will then revert all settings to default. As the PS3 does not save pervious FW downloads you can't easily revert to a previous firmware.
Apart from the time difference, a quick format will only mark the files as deleted, so in theory you could recover data from the hard drive. A full format will actually delete the files by over writing them.
It removes any accounts from the PS3 you are going to sell. However, on Sonys server the account will remain because Sony do not allow individuals to delete a PSN account once it has been created. I would recommend using a browser to access your PSN account. Once you are logged in change the basic details i.e. credit card number, address telephone number etc if you no longer intend to use the PSN account.
@miraclebouy No, once a PSN account is created you can't delete it. You can only make it inactive, in other words no longer use it. If you do decide to make your PSN account inactive, log on to your PSN account via the internet and remove all personal info and your credit card details. Then just walk away. Hope that explains things, and yes its dumb.
@xxpyroxsamxx Option 2 - 1. Remove the hard drive from your PS3 2. Use a PC to wipe the hard drive (you will need to buy a USB hard drive caddy) 3. Download the PS3 firmware from the Sony website 4. The videos 'ruclips.net/video/Cl8keUru4kA/видео.html' or 'ruclips.net/video/TRFXI64h9r4/видео.html' depending on the model of PS3 will help you remove the hard drive and shows you how to install the OS Finally Option 3 - Basically is to buy a new hard drive for your PS3 and follow the instructions in the above videos. Hope this helps.
Im not a jailbreaker so I can't say for sure, but as long as the jailbreak does not diddle with the physical hardware (i.e. modchip or custom flash) I can not see why its not covered under Sony's warranty. However, if the PS3 does break just make sure you remove the jailbreak software on your PS3 before you send it in to Sony for repair.
@CyRixULTIMate A full format will check for bad sectors and isolated them. It will then tag all files on the hard drive as being deleted. This process will take a long time (3 plus hours). A quick format will only tag files on the hard drive as deleted so its much quicker which is why I don't tend to bother with full format. Formatting the PS 3 hard drive does not remove the OS as the OS is stored in the PS3 hardware.
@xxpyroxsamxx You might have a faulty hard drive which is preventing the operating system from reinstalling. Do you have any hard drive light activity on the console?
what if i have 2 ps3's and the same psn account on them both and i only reset one, also im on 4.00 update but i bought it at 3.41 so what will it go to after the reset
@xxpyroxsamxx If you download the firmware and reinstall it via a USB flash drive, the PS3 should revert to the USB drive and look to install the OS from there rather than look to install the OS from your hard drive. That should give you something on your screen. Failing these solutions there is the possibility you have a faulty PS3. Is it under warranty?
@infodude666 I would recommend: 1. Remove credit card data and any personal information from your PSN account 2. Wipe your PS3 hard drive (reformat it) 3. Download the latest PS3 firmware onto USB drive 4. Reinstall the latest PS3 firmware to the wiped PS3 HD 5. Create a new PSN account - Make sure your PSN password is complex i.e 8 or more characters, upper case and lowercase letters, with numbers and a symbol like !?*$ etc 6. Use only PSN Points cards rather than your credit card on PSN
Does full, delete even the system files? like on the ps4 witch requires you to download the original file to a flash drive formated to fat42 or whatever it's called
dude just a question, if u do that, will it even erase a jailbreak cuz ive been trying to get off my jailbreak and i cant figure out how it wont read any of the things i get to take it off
@HandyAndy97 Yes, after you return to factory defaults you simply need to re-enter your PSN account details into your wiped PS3.You can also access your PSN account online via the PSN website. I would recommend noting down your PSN ID and password before your wipe the PS3.
@RuDuSniping If you resetting one PS3 the other PS3 will not be effected. After the reset your firmware stays on 4.00 or which ever was the last firmware downloaded onto the console.
thank you but I alredy get it I need one more thing is it smart to jailbreak ps3 becouse if I dont succes in bringing it back to factory setings dont think I can get it back to SONY after ps3 brakes?
Best to choose Restore PS3 System and then do a full format of your Hard drive when prompted. However please note that depending on the size of the hard drive. A full format can take up to 24 hours.
i have a question... when i restore the ps3 does the psn account get deleted on the ps4? i have the same psn account on ps3 as on ps4. so i can't sign in on ps4? with the psn account on ps3?
Could you help i did this yesterday but my controller wont sync back with my ps3 so now i can push the ps button to start it. do you know what i can do? ?
@mydoodads what do you mean light activity, the LED's? i'm pretty sure they were flashing, but it's not going anymore my brother was an idiot and came in and unplugged it. after 10 hours of no ETA bar :P
@xcourt17 I have to admit its not something I have tried myself. However, a quick bit of Googling came up with this which I think should fix the problem. If you select (Settings) > (System Settings) > [Restore Default Settings], you can reset the password to [0000]. Note that all other settings will also be restored to their default values. Let us know how you get on and good luck
Can i get all of it back? Or is it all deleted, my brother was watching a tutorial and pressed format utility now all my games are gone can i get it back?
The only way to revert back to a pervious Firmware is if you already have the previous FW downloaded. However Sony offer no official downgrade process so you will have to do a manual downgrade of your PS3.
Unfortunately no, the restore will only reset the jail broken OS. I think you need to download the latest firmware from the Sony site, copy it to a USB drive, wipe/reformat the PS3's hard drive and then reinstall the PS3 OS.
One interesting/annoying aspect of a PSN account depending on your point of view, is once you create an account you cant delete it. So you are correct and you can use your existing account on another system with your existing credentials. It might be worth login into your PSN account via the internet, just to make sure you have the correct password before you wipe the PS3 though.
Hi I done a return to default followed instructions plugged my controller in and the red lights on the controller flash but I can't get my ps3 to come back on. Any ideas what I can do?
As not all USB cables are able to both charge and transfer data. Try using a different cable. Ideally use a cable from a smart phone that both charges and allows you to transfer data.
Please answer if you do this say i have a ps4 will I still have my account if I do this with my ps3 to sell and would still have my account it Sony network

Question ! i want to restore my PS3 cause Official Bluetooth Headset 2.0 won't connect, but i don't want to delete my game saves ? can i just upload it on to my hard drive and drop it back on ?? Need to ask before i do it you know. Please Help
Sony do not offer a way to delete your psn account. So by returning to factory default you will only remove the account from your Playstation. If you are looking to abandon your PSN account I would recommend signing into it via a web browser and entering dummy data for your name and address etc. Also remove any credit card info just to be on the safe side.
hey if im on 4.21 and tried every reverter possible and im stuck on glitchy joeys jailbreak..will this work on deleting it and getting it off my system??
@camronic1 Any of the trophies collected while logged in on your friends PSN account will not be retained after a restore. When you restore and reapply your own PSN account, you will only see the trophies you collected up until the point were you made your friends PSN the primary account. Any trophies collected while using your friends PSN account will stay with them.
Sony class the default firmware as the one that is currently installed on your PS3. So if you are asking will the firmware be taken back to the same version as when you bought your PS3 the answer is no. Instead a Factory Reset will simply wipe all settings and data from the PS3.
You need a copy of the firmware you wish to downgrade to on a USB thumb drive. Format or replace the hard drive of the PS3 then use the USB thumb drive to upload the old firmware to the PS3. The hard parts getting hold of the old PS3 firmware you want to use. Good luck
I would strip out the hard drive. Place it in an external USB caddy, Format the drive using Windows, reinsert the hard drive back into the PS3, then install the 3.55 update using a USB memory stick. Alternatively just buy a new hard drive, fit it to the PS3 and then install 3.55. The big problem is finding a trust worth source for the 3.55 firmware.
I got a ps3 a few weeks back got some games with it too,it is so laggy to the point where it’s pretty much unplayable the games do play yes but the cutscenes barley play and it takes like an hour for a game to even start up What do I do
Try rebuilding the database. 1. Fully power down console 2. Turn on console, but keep holding down the power button until you hear it beep twice 3. When prompted on screen, connect your controller via USB cable and following instructions to access troubleshooting menu 4. choose option 4 Rebuild Database Depending on the size of the drive in your PS3 it might take a while to rebuild the database. However it will not remove any games or settings. It simply reindexes links and files to your games making your console perform more efficiently.

Failing these solutions there is the possibility you have a faulty PS3. Is it under warranty?
Yes, but you have to have a copy of the old firmware you want to revert to.
Does this help with general slowness in games? And is there anyway to not lose your saved game data?
@infodude666 I would recommend:
1. Remove credit card data and any personal information from your PSN account
2. Wipe your PS3 hard drive (reformat it)
3. Download the latest PS3 firmware onto USB drive
4. Reinstall the latest PS3 firmware to the wiped PS3 HD
5. Create a new PSN account - Make sure your PSN password is complex i.e 8 or more characters, upper case and lowercase letters, with numbers and a symbol like !?*$ etc
I would recommend noting down your PSN ID and password before your wipe the PS3.
so if i reset my ps3 does it delete my psn account completely or just remove it from that ps3
I did this today so does it mean my psn is deleted?
because i can still connect it via psn on internet
Just make sure you deactivate it first right?
Do we have to deactivate the system before selling it or just delete our profile then Factory reset?
Best to choose Restore PS3 System and then do a full format of your Hard drive when prompted. However please note that depending on the size of the hard drive. A full format can take up to 24 hours.
i have a question... when i restore the ps3 does the psn account get deleted on the ps4? i have the same psn account on ps3 as on ps4. so i can't sign in on ps4? with the psn account on ps3?
Thank you, I'm finally upgrading my PS3 to the megadrive 😂
After doing the full format the ps3 hen and framware will washed up or not?
Could you help i did this yesterday but my controller wont sync back with my ps3 so now i can push the ps button to start it. do you know what i can do?
?
@mydoodads what do you mean light activity, the LED's? i'm pretty sure they were flashing, but it's not going anymore my brother was an idiot and came in and unplugged it. after 10 hours of no ETA bar :P
Is there a way to do this without going into the menu because it says it's corrupted and it just went to poop
I want to ask Do you know if you reset the ps3 to factory settings using quick format or full format?
@xcourt17 I have to admit its not something I have tried myself. However, a quick bit of Googling came up with this which I think should fix the problem. If you select (Settings) > (System Settings) > [Restore Default Settings], you can reset the password to [0000]. Note that all other settings will also be restored to their default values.
Let us know how you get on and good luck
Can i get all of it back? Or is it all deleted, my brother was watching a tutorial and pressed format utility now all my games are gone can i get it back?
If i restore my ps3 will it affect the ps4 settings?
Because i have the same user on it??
@camronic1 Trophies are saved to a users PSN account so it should be fine as long as you restore his account as well as your own back onto the PS3.
The only way to revert back to a pervious Firmware is if you already have the previous FW downloaded. However Sony offer no official downgrade process so you will have to do a manual downgrade of your PS3.
Trophies are associated with your psn account so when you restore your PSN account to your PS3 all of your trophies are also restored.
It might be worth login into your PSN account via the internet, just to make sure you have the correct password before you wipe the PS3 though.
hey what did u mean you would lose your psn like i have to make a new one
?
Hi I done a return to default followed instructions plugged my controller in and the red lights on the controller flash but I can't get my ps3 to come back on. Any ideas what I can do?
As not all USB cables are able to both charge and transfer data. Try using a different cable. Ideally use a cable from a smart phone that both charges and allows you to transfer data.
@@mydoodads cheers I will give it a try 👍👍
Please answer if you do this say i have a ps4 will I still have my account if I do this with my ps3 to sell and would still have my account it Sony network
if i want to restore my ps3 using the full format method because I've been having problems with it, do i have to deactivate all the accounts or do i just leave them alone if i want to use them again?
Thanks bro I actually probably I actually needed it so bad😂
will this fix my ps3 from not reading blu ray games or movies?
yea brO lol I'm trying to get 3.55 also but will restoring ur ps3 erase the memory saved on your games?
How do I delete my data saved on the game disc if I have done a factory reset on the console??
the psn is the email thing right? so if I just reset to factory mode my brothers email that he refuses to give me for the ps3 he gave me will go away?
Question ! i want to restore my PS3 cause Official Bluetooth Headset 2.0 won't connect, but i don't want to delete my game saves ? can i just upload it on to my hard drive and drop it back on ?? Need to ask before i do it you know. Please Help
No, it will stay on the version you are currently on.
Bro if I do quick format my ps3 will be like brand new right??. My gta is not working it stops at 6000 on story mode pls. Help me
im on update 4.00 on my ps3 if i do this will it go back to the first update?
ok so, i'm restoring my PS3 Hard Drive back to factory settings and it'snot giveing me and ETA bar. What does this mean
If we do this format how we will restore our ps3 syatem data and games
hey if im on 4.21 and tried every reverter possible and im stuck on glitchy joeys jailbreak..will this work on deleting it and getting it off my system??
I did this for axsident how can I get it all back please help me plzzzzz
@camronic1 Any of the trophies collected while logged in on your friends PSN account will not be retained after a restore. When you restore and reapply your own PSN account, you will only see the trophies you collected up until the point were you made your friends PSN the primary account. Any trophies collected while using your friends PSN account will stay with them.
Sony class the default firmware as the one that is currently installed on your PS3. So if you are asking will the firmware be taken back to the same version as when you bought your PS3 the answer is no. Instead a Factory Reset will simply wipe all settings and data from the PS3.
please help me.I canceled when the cleaning started and now I can't use my remote😢
Does quick format will remove my psn account???
You need a copy of the firmware you wish to downgrade to on a USB thumb drive. Format or replace the hard drive of the PS3 then use the USB thumb drive to upload the old firmware to the PS3. The hard parts getting hold of the old PS3 firmware you want to use. Good luck
Maybe a dumb question but when I do this, I can still use my psn account on other PlayStations right? 😅 I plan on selling my ps3 & ps4.
Always worth checking if you’re not sure. But you can still use your PSN account on other PlayStation 👍
@@mydoodadsthanks was worried by resetting my ps3 it’d delete my psn account on the 4 and 5
I would strip out the hard drive. Place it in an external USB caddy, Format the drive using Windows, reinsert the hard drive back into the PS3, then install the 3.55 update using a USB memory stick. Alternatively just buy a new hard drive, fit it to the PS3 and then install 3.55. The big problem is finding a trust worth source for the 3.55 firmware.
hi I need help becasuse I've accidentally deleted my ps3 system and I need it back plsss help me
I got a ps3 a few weeks back got some games with it too,it is so laggy to the point where it’s pretty much unplayable
the games do play yes but the cutscenes barley play and it takes like an hour for a game to even start up
What do I do
Try rebuilding the database.
1. Fully power down console
2. Turn on console, but keep holding down the power button until you hear it beep twice
3. When prompted on screen, connect your controller via USB cable and following instructions to access troubleshooting menu
4. choose option 4 Rebuild Database
Depending on the size of the drive in your PS3 it might take a while to rebuild the database. However it will not remove any games or settings. It simply reindexes links and files to your games making your console perform more efficiently.
Hey, I really appreciate the video but i got a problem hope u can help me . I did a quick format while being offline and all the games got deleted can i restore them back ,hope u can inform me @@mydoodads
