For those of you that pressed option 3 like in the video and are experiencing "Preparing please wait" for what seems like eternity, do not despair. Press option 5, it will however delete your data and restore factory settings. If you have PS Plus then you should be ok in regards to restoring game saves.

It is a good idea before you do anything in the PS3 safe menu to use the Backup Utility in the PS3 System Settings to backup all your data to an external drive. How long this takes depends on how much data there is. My 160GB PS3 Slim at about 70% full takes about 4-5 hours to backup. I do a backup like this every 6 months or so.

Paul, you need to do is click reset. It will delete your account, but you can get your account back. First you need to do is-click reset, then it will take you to the home screen, then make an account but click the one under it, the I already have an account. Then just put in your user, and then put in your password, or will it will show email, and password, then ill say "Please confirm your gmail." Well I hope the advice ill work. :)
I did a hard shutdown after 30 mins or so using the switch in the back. Then rebooted normally and it went into the restore mode on its own once it started up.

I had to restore my PS3 system. It erased everything but got it to work again. Had to redownload games and start all over. I purchased a USB drive where I backup everything in now.

i just did rebuild database and re store file system and I still get the message saying the sys tem was not turned off properly the last time it was used. The file system on the system storage may be corrupted.The system will restart, check the file system and restore it if it is corrupted If the file system is corrupted it may take 2 to 3 hours to complete.
I restored the file system twice, after it finishes and restarts, it again tells me the storage may be corrupted. And it freezes shortly after I press ok.

Probably is, try sending it to a repair shop they might be able to figure out what happened or they'll replace the Blu Ray

2, 3, 4 mainly do not work but restoring the PS3 System mostly works. It fixes most of the corrupted files and freezes.

I updated it and I don't know what version it was before I updated. now that I wanna jb my ps3 I cant because you cant jb 4.81 with a USB. how can I take the 4.81 update out and back to its original when I went back on. (ive already tried downloading the 3.55 downgrade update onto my usb and it says its corrupted on 72%)
Quick question, after you finish restoring the file system, do all the ps3 game save files will be gone?

I had a power cut lat night And I only just saved my game (savegame 2) has it happened... when I turned it on today to go on it... it wasn't there so I just only looked at the game files ect... and I found the game file I lost... and idk how to restore it... will this video fix it... I don't like just doing random stuff that idk of to my ps3...
if your having problems on loading just turn the ps3 off then back on again and it will all format and delete everything, takes 30 seconds
My ps3 doesnt go to Safe Mode...it keeps going to the update screen since it keeps saying that there was an error during update and spit a code. Any ideas?
