Guthrie Trapp
Ha! GT: "Let's stay away from that!" Perfect. GT, you've just got to be yourself, as you've done since your very first episodes. You've evolved since then. There's plenty of gems in each episode and plenty that your years of playing will inform. Things rise to the top. You're GT, not Uncle Larry and not Jack Ruch. You all do things differently and we are all lucky as hell to be here. That goes for the personal stuff you share. It's good to "get to know you" if that's possible via the interweb. But you're a genuine guy and that comes across too. Don't change a thing. -GB
Absolutely agree
Hi Guthrie I was in Nashville for my 60th and was coming to the underdog on Monday but my flight home was cancelled and had to fly to the UK a day early really gutted as it was on my to list to see you play.
Love that 335 GT, great sound and great looking mambaJamba…
Just dropping a comment to say how much I like the channel. 😎🤓
Fellas.... FELLAS!! This is the finest guitar player you will ever hear tell you about how to actually play. If you can absorb even an ounce of this info, you are set for life. That is no lie.
"Modes, I think, are a dark path."
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
I love when I first tune in and hear Guthrie playing. That beginning song sounded a lot like Brandie Carlise "The Joke".
I now go to sleep each night thinking about playing guitar. Thank God for GT!
"modes are a dark path"
Our LORD my friend. Your parents brought one of the greatest blessing in my life, your music. I have profoundly enjoyed watching grow through the years.
Your tone is part of the magic for me.
That intro was perfection!
❣
Guthrie, no need to apologize for “pushing us” you are teaching me to move forward👍
You always share what is so essential. We can get lulled into thinking the core basics are too easy and want to rush to the juicy stuff. Ultimately, what all of this video really gets at is simple....we need to do the work, really work. Thanks for your generosity.
That was the most gorgeous intro jam ever.
On the list. I always pick up something, and get to hear you play. Win-win!
Cool! Adam Levy is great guitarist and teacher! Very love him
We all grow❤ hit the soul on that one!
Sending love from southeast Texas!! ❤❤ GT
For the love of God, keep what you're doing, it's why you are where you are.
After playing guitar for 30 years I ONLY want to watch and learn from players that are much better than I will ever be. I never miss one of yours or Tom's videos and it's usually revelatory. Please keep doing what you're doing Guthrie. I love getting the newsletter as well!
Your intro so freaking wow my ears are like aaahhhh
That opening playing sounds very similar to the song Polly by Gene Clark god rest his soul, Absolutely Wonderful Stuff Guthrie ❤️🌞⭐️🙏🌞❤️
That is the nicest 335 I've ever seen. Sounds pretty good through the phone also. Wish you continued success.
Thank you for leaving space, Guthrie. It's lovely to hear you in this mode.
Respect and thanks, from Asheville.....
You are 100 % correct. There are no shortcuts.
Excellent lesson. Thank you!
As always, Thank you Guthrie!
Always beautiful intro on guitar
Guthrie Sir, I finally learned how to get a fraction of that sound you get out of the major scale. It’s so melodic and doesn’t sound like you’re plying scale exercises. You slowly dance around the chord tones with minimal notes and slowly build up. Man I’m so excited about this. Thank you for this video!
There's an army of teachers going over CAGED or showing licks. Emphasizing tying melodies to chords is gonna pay off for anybody that throws some time on it. My playing has improved a lot in just a couple months. Knowing the fretboard a bit is way easier than straight up memorizing licks. Thanks Guthrie!
don't stop, gt! don't dumb it down. i'm one of those terminal intermediate players and i learn a ton from your vids. keep pushin' up and keepin' on.
I love your = Playing = Period. = Very Cool= Couldnt'nd = then some == M.g. in Phoenex, Az. = I want To Jam = Togetheter, = Please, = and thank, you,!!!@!= = Yes..... ===YES -
Yes sir. Yes sir. Yes sir.
Guthrie, You are so about Proving yourself every day, It’s a work ethic and discipline That can’t be denied… Bravo
That first set of chords and the melodies you found over, under, around and through them, you would have been a great Beatle
Hugely inspiring you are Guthrie!
Outstanding Man!
Being a thumb picker Buster B Jones videos helped me learn the right hand technique but you are the first to explain the guitar in ways that really help me understand how the guitar works. Thanks for what you do and keep doing what you do.
I watch ur channel religiously brotha! I'm still beginner / intermediatish but I get what ur saying n love ur vibe man!!
Your playing at the beginning of this video was so moving -- just excellent.
Getting to the bottom of it all! Cheers Guthrie!!
Gold!
The intro was killer, can listent to that over and over...
Intro, haunting and beautiful.... nothing like a Fender amp......
Beautiful acoustic tone from your hands and the ES, Guthrie.
Thank you Guthrie. I def choke those strings too much. Good reminder. For what it’s worth to anyone, I have found the EHX Freeze pedal works great to drone any chord and practice melody, harmony, scales, arpeggios, etc. 🙏🏻
Same here, I thought the intonation on my guitar was off and then realized I was using too much finger pressure. Sounds like a cool pedal. I'll have to look into that. That " Freqout" pedal by Digitech looks neat for sustaining notes, but the price is pretty steep for me.
Please don’t change a thing in the way you teach. It’s awesome now. You’re the only guy out there providing easy to understand context.
Always motivating. Always insuring.
For what it's worth, I thoroughly enjoy learning from you. I'm inspired by what and how you play, and it makes me want to play more. I'm never going learn it all, but I've already learned a lot thanks to you.
GREAT ONE GT!!! THANKS
Great video! Lots of stuff covered. I never get tired of you talking about chord shapes and scales. I’m working on them! Takes time. Thank you brother.
You have cut through to me and I am truly gratefull for your honestey in your proffession ! No appoligeez need for any thing it's your baby do what feels right.Peace + Love will change the world.Alphonse Meloche.
You're awesome GT, thank you for the inspiration!
Guitar sounds awesome
Great lesson Guthrie. Keep doing it just like you are. Keep pushing us. It’s done wonders for my playing!
Signed up for newsletter. ✅
Thank you so much for this video/lesson. So helpful is an understatement. These videos are priceless. Awesome playing 👏. So smooth and soulful
Really good stuff, Trapp. Honesty, basics, enough transparency to make a difference without spilling your candy in the lobby, and overall structural insights. THIS will get you more and more subs and views. I would MUCH more rather watch your videos and Uncle Larry's videos than watching some yank and crank jack leg teaching sweet child of mine. Keep up the great work!
What’s great lesson, thanks. Let’s not dumb the level down, there’s too much on RUclips like that now.
Most beautiful thing I ve ever heard. Great inspiration
Always enjoy your videos, never stop pushing up on us, you're making important points when you do, thanks so much
Keep doin’ it the way you’ve been doing it, from the go! It’s the reason I’m subscribed and it’s the reason I traveled to Nash to see you in person! I’ll be signing up for the newsletter! 👍🎸✌️😎
Thank you Guthrie.
Thanks GT .. another gem. Love it, and very relatable stuff, as always. Your melody-based approach makes a lot of sense and is helpful to me.
Really cool Guthrie. Great lesson. Right where I am at. Thank you!
Wow, was able to learn so much just by transposing the first two minutes of this video. Thank you for this content.. Look forward to finishing the rest of the video.
I really enjoyed this lesson so many things can see to work on Thanks a lot for sharing.
Great content as ever. Thanks so much Guthrie . From across the pond ❤
Thanks for the reminder to make sure you’re solid with the basics!
Another great lesson. I had played for years before I found your RUclips channel. I started learning the arpeggios and triad chords together from your lessons. Up the arpeggios down the scale was a great lesson of yours. Thank you for the beginning lessons.
How much caffeine did you have this morning? 😅 you dropped at least a year’s worth of material in one shot! Absolutely beautiful stuff. Thanks.
Just great
Don't dumb it down! There's enough dumb channels out there. I am one person who wants to see guys like you and Tom, playing better than I'll likely ever play. I ain't giving up!
I love your videos. Thank you for doing these.i wish I could come down for an in person lesson or maybe stay for a week in a B&B and take a few lessons. I'm always inspired by what you share and it makes me want to practice and become a better musician.
Man I just need to learn more chords, now that I branched off to playing lead more, the more I need some chords to throw in there, I was in a classic rock band for a few years, playing rhythm you don’t need much to fill that bill, never needed triads or double stops, maybe a few weird chords for a few songs in our sets, but them chords are everything, even the two note ones up and down the neck, all this is starting to sink in the more I watch you,and Tom,thanks for sharing.
It blows my mind that all he is really doing is cowboy chords all over the neck. The more I grasp this, the more the neck makes sense to me. What a treat!!
sweet 🤠
Love watching your videos. Thank you for sharing and helping.
Thanks GT! All things I have been/should be working on, but you put it into focus. Great inspiration!
Thank you Guthrie! ❤. I cannot tell you how much you posts help, they inspire and you’re such a cool cat. Keep ‘em coming, love everything you do. One day I’ll get to Nashville. Huge love from the UK!
“Modes are a dark path” lol.
Lovely playin’!
Very cool video again! Outlining chord changes is something I struggle with but things like this help a ton!
Btw have you ever though about doing a contest or drawing where the winner receives a lesson??? Thx again!
Nice job, always fun stuff. Man dealing with the music business these days must be a real pain and challenge. I feel for you.
What are you talking about? @TxTThe_GuthrieTrapp
Rhythm, harmony, melody, groove, and REVERB, at least for some. Imagine how those worshipful echos once revererated inside those now empty giant cathedrals throughout Europe. In America, people nowadays with guitars play their reverb effects in churches with big congregations to emulate the big cathedral effects. But are they just going through the motions, or are they really connected with God. I'd say it's time to accept Jesus as personal lord and Savior to find out for yourself. Great guitar lesson.
Starting on the dominant 7th
I have at least half of an answer to the question you asked in this video. I have a reasonably intelligent, normal sister who once upon a time made a comment that truly rendered me gobsmacked. Her comment: "All guitar players sound the same to me" Ouch!
Good message and lesson👍
Other than the trapeze, that looks exactly like Larry Carlton's guitar.
Thanks Guthrie. Well done ! "Modes are a dark path"......?
Think about the word .. Mode
@@guthrietrappmusic I did...and I came up with " I'd like a scoop of ice cream on my apple pie " I'm struggling with this : ) Do you get a night off tonight ?
@@guthrietrappmusic Ok.....I give up. A lot guitarists use and teach modes. Why do you call them a dark path. I'm sure you have a good point, I just don't know what it is.
I much prefer people who are better than I’ll ever be. While everyone at almost any level has something valuable to share I doubt I’ll gain much from listening to people I can outplay. I really dig listening to the aliens
There was a short video a few days ago where you are all playing a shuffle rhythm. Is there a full video?
So, how does one know how to properly place fingers to play smoothly like that? Learn the CAGED ...
10 up
Would you ever consider streaming to RUclips/ twitch? It’d be great to talk to you in real time and I’m sure you’d get a huge following on twitch
C'mon Guthrie....where's the Trapp/Larry LP???? Tasty shit as always...
Intro song name?
Guthrie could you repeat the examples of changing one 4:18 note to get four related chords
Excellent lesson as usual.👍
On 11s could you explain what that chord is? The second and pinky fingers appear to be playing part of a D shape G chord. Whereas the first and third fingers appear to both be playing the 6th string?
This is great stuff, don't change. Can you tell us where we can find the email link?
