So enjoyed seeing this multiple chapel Catholic church. Thankyou. Only in Lourdes, France have I seen this, which is a Basilica. One never meets a priest whom wants to be seen as special. Its always Christ they hold upon the Alter within consecration that raises their humility.
I've noticed the same with several relatives, friends of our family & parishioners who left to search elsewhere (other churches). I even recall a parishioner saying at a prayer meeting that her late grandmother, a cradle Catholic turned passionate Pentecostal, suddenly felt called to return "home" in the years before she passed, and made arrangements to have a Catholic funeral.

Love the show Matt. Brotherhood and understanding. As a Catholic I am notably impressed and hope that you are brought closer to God by learning about faith.
Great video and Father was good at explaining. Others have recommended learning more about St. Thérèse of Lisieux and I’ll echo that. Her autobiography “Story of a Soul” is great.
You were very respectful and even your question in relation to purgatory was non confrontational where it so easily could've been. I'm a convert (from protestant to catholic) so I understand your perspective completely. There is something beautiful and peaceful about catholic churches though and the incense is worth the price of admission alone
If you explained the concept of a church like this to me, I would think it's kind of bizarre and modern. But seeing the way it's executed-- it's so beautiful and traditional. Right on
there are a lot of ancient round churches in Europe. In Italy you find S. Vitale in Ravenna (VI century) or S. Costanza (IV century) and S. Stefano Rotondo in Rome (V century) that were built as round churches on purpose unlike the Pantheon that originally was a pagan temple. I think there were a number of reasons: the shape of the Anastasis in Jerusalem, that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, the perfection of the circle that reminds to God... Usually a round or octogonal shape was used in Roman funerary architecture and Christians took those shape for their martyria. I hope I was clear enough, English isn't my mothertongue
What a nice little visit. The church grounds and architecture were beautiful. Fr. Herzog was gentle and informative. When he asked if that if that burned was levity in a somber moment taking place in that church.
My "Confirmation Name" is Therese' from St. Therese' "The Little Flower". She is such a WONDERFUL SAINT, AND EXAMPLE TO ALL!!!! And yes, it's a LOVELY CHURCH "BEFITTING" of St. Therese'.
Another great video. I specially appreciate that you seem to be a bit more open about your own convictions during the dialogue, always respectful an graciously. One additional catholic observation: we consider baptism much more a grace from God and fruit of his own initiative and only secondarily a personal response to his initiative.
Matt, I always love learning from these vids and listening to your podcasts too. Im always so impressed and challenged by how respectful and honouring you are. Thank you.
This is the first circle church in the Americas I have seen that does not look bland. It has a proper sanctuary and traditional look. I actually like it
Welcome to the Catholic Church! I’m so glad that you were called to the visit. Your questions were very thought and you were very respectful of the traditions of our church. We Catholics pray for the reunion of all Christians through Christ’s Holy Catholic Church. I converted 19 years ago from Protestantism and surrendered in 2020, meaning I am really trying hard to fight my own concupiscente nature.😮
Thank you Matt for these video's. I see you are loving in your approach and kind in your remarks. What a blessed journey you're on. May God Bless you and your family. "Ave Maria". Steven. U.K.
Thanks for the great video. I’ve watched you for years and this is my neighborhood parish, but I learned a thing or two, too. There is a large project going on to reduce and consolidate the many parishes in St. Louis. I pray our neighborhood will be able to worship here for another 100 years.
Fun fact: Saint Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower actually dressed up as Joan of Arc (who wasn't a canonised saint at the time) for a play they organised in the convent. There are photos where she is dressed up, you can google it.
When an atheist asks why believe in God, Pascal’s wager comes to mind. When a Protestant asks why believe in Purgatory, well I take the same view point. If it does not exist, ok, no problem, my prayers won’t do anything, but what if it does exist and the deceased person is in it and needs of our prayers? Now you may say, “it is not in the Bible”, again, we can reason it as we can reason God to an atheist. God bless!!
Am a catholic, I really like your channel that’s why I subscribed coz you are so humble, we love to have a lot of people like you, who respects other religion, God Bless you Brother
This church reminds me of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in Royal Oak, Michigan. That Basilica is also named after Saint Therese of Lisieux.
I looked at their website and noticed they offer a Traditional Latin Mass. In your tour of Catholicism have you visited a Traditional (FSSP or ICKSP) church and dove into the older architecture and liturgy?
Baldocchino (canopy over the altar) also alludes to the wedding theology in the Scriptures, esp. the Wedding Feast of the Lamb in Revelation. The altar is where Christ lays down his life for his Bride, the Church. The altar becomes the marriage bed.
Just happened upon your channel from your video title. As a Catholic I really appreciate your curiosity and reverence for everything and I am glad that Fr. Herzog what able to demonstrate what a Catholic priest should be. I am sorry if other Catholic priests or Catholics have not greeted you with the same Christian heart. God Bless.
I think a good perspective on praying for the dead is that though we experience life "in time," sequentially, that does not bind God to judge the soul of the person sequentially since God is out of time, omnipresent, so just because "in time" we are praying on behalf of that person after their death "in time," that does not mean God is somehow forced to go "well, sorry, that prayer got to me too late." Because we exist in time we do something does matter, however, that does not mean that God can't choose to act outside of the rules of existence imposed on us, otherwise we would be force to deny the possibility of miracles.
What a beautiful church! I love these videos on different churches and denominations. I have learned a lot, and I really appreciate your openness in dialogue with each of them. It would be interesting to have a video of you discussing purgatory and departed souls in more depth with one of your catholic friends.
Beautiful !! Yes the Catholics believe in infant baptism because the ancient church ‘s disciples baptized households including infants . Read the Early Church Fathers .
Thank you for showing off this wonderful church! This is the parish of my grandparents, who still live there. I have been to many Masses in the building, glad others get to see its unique beauty!!
You are an awesome and charitable guy. We are in two completely different camps but I appreciate anyone who explores and asks good questions. I wish you and your family the best.
I just want to say that you're channel was my first relook back into Christianity. I wasn't raised Christian but was baptized catholic. I even got my communion but stopped after that and was dragged into the Jehova's Witness. I swear they are the instrument of the devil, I have never felt more further from god than when I was around them. I didn't get baptized but my father did so my goal is to help drag my father back into the light of the lord. He disagrees with their doctrines and is just on the cusp of leaving and I think the lord placed me at this time and place. If (by the power of the holy spirit) I can drag him out of that organization it will be my testimony. Also I am still deciding my denomination and would love to here all your recommendations. God bless you all! ✝☦❤
Seems like your already basically in the Catholic church. I recommend go to confession, then start receiving holy communion again, and then ask about receiving the sacrament of confirmation. Thats just my opinion though.
You are already baptized there is only one baptism. You just need to know the faith. Follow along the Cathechism is a year podcast by Fr. Mike here in youtube…🙏🏻
Every Protestant I've ever met believed in Purgatory, they just didn't know it. The conversation usually goes something like this: "Impure things cannot be in the presence of the perfectly holy God, right?" "Right." "And St. Paul tells us that no one is perfect, right?" "Right." "So nobody dies perfectly pure and holy, right?" "Right." "So does that mean that nobody can ever be in the divine presence in Heaven?" "Well, no." "So what happens to our imperfections/impurities/earthly attachments that we still have when we die?" "Well, God wipes that away somehow." That right there -- that "somehow" -- is Purgatory. That's a purgation/purification after death for those who are saved and going to Heaven. The Church doesn't teach that Purgatory has to look like Dante's Divine Comedy (and it never did). The only difference is that Catholics try to articulate what the concept of necessary purgation/purification is, while most Protestants simply handwave it (but still believe in the fundamental concept).
That holy water bit was so good. I am a Christian and their comedy and joy about interest in each other's faith is so contagious. Thank God for joy and laughter!
A wake is typically a less formal event than a funeral. There isn't really a ceremony where everyone sits down together. The family will typically be seated or standing by the casket as people come through to give their condolences. It's very open, too. They are usually a few hours long, and people come through at different times. Some people will come through for 5 minutes to give condolences. Others will stay the whole time. I've never been to a wake inside of a church, though. Not sure if they are much different there.
At some point there is a short prayer service called the Vigil consisting of Scripture readings and prayers for the deceased and mourners or in some places, the rosary.

Love the show Matt. Brotherhood and understanding. As a Catholic I am notably impressed and hope that you are brought closer to God by learning about faith.
Such a cool church. Grateful that they opened up before funeral service, so we could see a little about a catholic funeral too
Great video and Father was good at explaining.
Right on
There's one in Rome which was built before Christianity and is still in use.
there are a lot of ancient round churches in Europe.
Good stuff Matt, love understanding these traditions that I'm not familiar with.
Matt, I always love learning from these vids and listening to your podcasts too. Im always so impressed and challenged by how respectful and honouring you are. Thank you.
This is the first circle church in the Americas I have seen that does not look bland. It has a proper sanctuary and traditional look. I actually like it
THANK YOU!!!
I agree! I love that there are four chapels as well. ❤
Steven. U.K.
Matt, your knowledge and understanding of catholic faith has increased dramatically in you ecumenical search. Praise be to God.
Thanks for the great video. I’ve watched you for years and this is my neighborhood parish, but I learned a thing or two, too. There is a large project going on to reduce and consolidate the many parishes in St. Louis. I pray our neighborhood will be able to worship here for another 100 years.
You have to have a very strong faith to engage so delightfully with those whose convictions differ from your own. 🎉🎉🎉
Fun fact: Saint Therese of Lisieux, the Little Flower actually dressed up as Joan of Arc (who wasn't a canonised saint at the time) for a play they organised in the convent. There are photos where she is dressed up, you can google it.
If you’re curious, the Eastern Churches also pray for the departed, who they believe are in/passing through an intermediate state of existence.
Should visit a Maronite Catholic Church. Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church in Sydney Australia is also round
Oh Yes it's round. I remember them building it. Being from Hurstville ,never had reason to visit unfortunately
That organ sounds absolutely beautiful. So glad we got to hear it at the end of the walkthrough!!
as a catholic I can attest high church is far more accessible than people commonly think
God bless!!
Thank you for being so gracious.
Am a catholic, I really like your channel that’s why I subscribed coz you are so humble, we love to have a lot of people like you, who respects other religion, God Bless you Brother
Thanks for this new video, Matt, and Happy belated Easter. I appreciate your your positive and loving attitude toward other denominations.
No worries, it's still Easter. We have 50 days of it! It ends at Pentecost, in June.
@@lyndavonkanel8603 Yes, that's right
This church reminds me of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in Royal Oak, Michigan. That Basilica is also named after Saint Therese of Lisieux.
Hi Matt. Greetings from the Sunshine Coast, Qld Australia.
Appreciate you showing us this interesting Catholic Church in the US
I looked at their website and noticed they offer a Traditional Latin Mass. In your tour of Catholicism have you visited a Traditional (FSSP or ICKSP) church and dove into the older architecture and liturgy?
I stumbled upon this channel! So great! Matt, you know so much Catholic background and told the story so respectfully!
God Bless.
Thank Lord I'm a Catholic. 🙏🙏
As a catholic I love what you do…have you ever been to the Franciscan monastery in Washington DC….I’d highly recommend it…
I believe he did a video there a couple years back.
What a beautiful church! I love these videos on different churches and denominations. I have learned a lot, and I really appreciate your openness in dialogue with each of them. It would be interesting to have a video of you discussing purgatory and departed souls in more depth with one of your catholic friends.
I've been in that church. It's just beautiful, and such a beautiful message in architecture .
Cool church. Esther is going to be so awesome. Loving the podcast Matt. God Bless.
Interesting. There’s a Little Flower Catholic Church in Reno, Nevada that has a round building.
Beautiful !! Yes the Catholics believe in infant baptism because the ancient church ‘s disciples baptized households including infants . Read the Early Church Fathers .
It sorta reminds me of a smaller-scale Liverpool Metropolitan Church, marvellous
The Priest should have stated that only Catholics receive the Eucharist during the Mass. The Catholic Host is different than the Protestant Host.
Soon Matt soon,just like Cameron
God Bless you brother 😇
Thank you for showing off this wonderful church! This is the parish of my grandparents, who still live there. I have been to many Masses in the building, glad others get to see its unique beauty!!
The life of the church is with the community and all the believers.
In Royal Oak, MI there is Church named the Shrine of the Little Flower and has the "round" set up as well. Beautiful church!!
God bless you in making this content that aids deepen our understanding of our Catholic faith. May God be praised. 🙏 🙏 🙏
Been to the latin mass here, so beautiful. Hope you visit de Sales in STL as well, which is the standard-bearer for beauty in the city!
Thanks Matt for highlighting this very unique church. Looking forward to future videos.
You are an awesome and charitable guy. We are in two completely different camps but I appreciate anyone who explores and asks good questions. I wish you and your family the best.
As a catholic love your videos a lot❣️
Come home to the one, holy, apostolic Church ❤️✝️🙏
Btw..once you were baptized, that’s it. No redo. So happy ur out of the JW..it’s a horrible thing.
You were baptized a Christian in a Catholic church. There is one baptism. You and your father would be welcomed back any time.
Every Protestant I've ever met believed in Purgatory, they just didn't know it. The conversation usually goes something like this:
"Impure things cannot be in the presence of the perfectly holy God, right?"
"Right."
"And St. Paul tells us that no one is perfect, right?"
"Right."
"So nobody dies perfectly pure and holy, right?"
"Right."
"So does that mean that nobody can ever be in the divine presence in Heaven?"
"Well, no."
"So what happens to our imperfections/impurities/earthly attachments that we still have when we die?"
"Well, God wipes that away somehow."
That right there -- that "somehow" -- is Purgatory.
I am really blessed by your humility and goodwill, Matt. Jesus is truly in your heart. You are a great example for us all.
As a Catholic, this was a awesome video. Liked to see you do more of these.
Thank you for your gentle askimg, too.
That holy water bit was so good. I am a Christian and their comedy and joy about interest in each other's faith is so contagious. Thank God for joy and laughter!
May the Almighty God Bless you for visiting a Catholic church. Praised be Jesus Christ. Amen.
As a protestant allow me to say, Little Flower in this Hour reveal thy mighty Power in the Name of Jesus.
I love your channel. I m catholic and i get to know these beautiful churches though your channel. His bless you!!
thank you! very respectful interaction. God bless you
A wake is typically a less formal event than a funeral.
The Catholic Cathedral of Liverpool, UK is also in the round.
