The retrospective insights they gave come from years of fame and friendship as a family of old friends. No goofing, just real. A very rich and true interview. Thanks for this. Love these guys since I was 12 years old in 1966. Parts of my youth gone by...
I was fortunate to have met Micky, Davy and Peter at an autograph signing several years ago and it was also cool to shake their hands too. It was also great to have seen them live in 1986 in Pittsburgh at their "20th Anniversary" comeback concert!
@@lynettepalecek3141 Yes, I was very fortunate to have met the Monkees at a local autograph signing several years ago and they all seemed like very cool people.👍
I love The Monkees ! Ill love Davy forever like his song ! I sang this song to Mom as she was dying July 16th 2013 age 84 as that was her favorite song !
This interview is 12 years old, and Davy died months after this broadcasted. Felt bad about that. He didn't look to good. Peter, (was my favorite Monkey), seemed kind of agitated, and Mickey looked like he was disconnecting himself. They didn't look too happy, in this interview. I loved to watch the Monkeys, reruns. I was a baby when they had the show, my mom liked them. I watched the later reruns. Long gone great times.
Followed each of these talented entertainers since they started. Miss Mike forever. When they came together it was phenomenal. Loved their music. HEY, HEY WE'RE THE MONKEYS!!❤❤
I could tell Davy was struggling in this interview holding his shoulder which is a clear sign of heart troubles. R.I.P. Davy and Peter. Nice seeing them together. It really hit me hard when Davy Jones died. ❤️🙏🏻🎹💎🌹😎
What a wonderful interview! Peter seems very wired in this interview. I have seen Shoe Suede Blues twice in intimate settings and I got to meet him and he was nothing like this
These guys were REALLY. cool people and definitely got a lot of shit that they in NO way deserved. However, IMO I think Nesmith caused a great deal of this because he made such a big deal about them NOT playing on the records when in fact that was common practice at the time, especially if you are making a television show at the same time. The Monkees then got stigmatized as frauds when almost ALL the bands were doing the same thing. The Beach Boys didn't play on their records but DIDN'T publicly announce it to the world as Nesmith did. I think Dolenz put it best when he said the Wrecking Crew couldn't have been credited on records back then because they were on virtually everyone's records. I understand Nesmith's point, and Tork had similar feelings, but later said he TOTALLY understands the producers now and he would do it the exact way they did in hindsight. In fact, after Headquarters they did revert to using studio musicians. Nesmith had it WAY better right out of the gate as he was writing songs for those records and consequently reaping royalties from their MASSIVE sales. His comments hurt Jones, Tork and Dolenz more than they did him. LET'S NOT EVEN GET INTO LIQUID PAPER! LOL
no, Happy Days was Ron Howard, Henry Winkler. The Monkeys....Monkees!....Monkees!...were Davey.....Davy!....Dav!y...Mickey....Micky!.....Micky!....Michelle....Michael! Michael!...and Petey!...Peter....Peter!
I disagree that this was their first tour together in many years. It is well known they all would fight at times and were like brothers in that way in the end they all really cared for each other they had there days just like we all do..
They hated eachother other Davey especially hated the band and hated the guys in the band look at the way his sitting with his arms close to his body that's a defensive position
@Don Johnson First off, you're completely wrong when you said that they hated each other. Second, you're extremely ignorant about the body language. You're a very foolish person for believing the nutty people who say that "folded arms is always a defensive sign." People who say that are dead wrong!!!! I started reading body language in November 1959 when I was 2 years old and I knew that my eyes weren't normal. Quite often (more often than people realize) when a person has his or her arms folded, that person is just very shy and doesn't know what to say to the person that he or she is talking to. Another reason why a person has his or her arms folded is to show the person who is talking to him or her that the person with the folded arms is concentrating intently to the other person. Also, another reason why a person has his or her arms folded is because that person is cold. You're such an idiot for thinking that there's only one reason why a person has his or her arms folded. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I liked them and there was a lot more they could have done, but they deluded themselves into thinking they were a real band. A lot of revisionism from them now, but if they had just accepted what they were hire to do it would have been a more lucrative career for them.
they had to play. People were putting them down for not playing. It was a point of pride that they would play at least some of the instruments on their records.
The Boys did say that the band was created for the Tv show. How could they be deluded, that makes no sense? There have been Many Great Bands over the past few decades, and also a lot of very Forgettable bands. The Monkees were Memerable, Feel good, and Fun loving.
Um, they weren't deluded about it - they were quite aware it was a tv band. The thing was, they wanted to play their own music, but were told what to do and play. Real musicians in a pretend band. Good thing is Mike and Pete played their own music afterwards.
Regardless of the opinions of music snobs....these guys left their mark on music history....and they were good guys too !!!
Your comment was well said! 👏👍. I agree.
I agree…grew up listening to them…I introduced their music to my 2 daughters when they were young…in their late 20’s and still listening to them…
Yes as throw away manufactured happy pop music

Hes alive and kicking and going on tour in July 2023.
They will have to replace Micky the drummer tho as he died in 1966

I hear you Esther. Although he didn’t participate in this interview, sadly, Mike Nesmith passed away in 2021 & is missed. R.I.P Wool Hat 🙏🏼
All three look like they'd rather be somewhere else
Davy Jones is Dead???? Are you f......kin kidding me

❤ these guys always. They were the American Fab Four. 👍😊
Crap four ya mean
You can't hear the questions
I enjoyed this!
What a wonderful interview! Peter seems very wired in this interview. I have seen Shoe Suede Blues twice in intimate settings and I got to meet him and he was nothing like this
You were lucky! The mighty Tork was known for his extreme mood swings.
That you're female probably helped.
@William Byron Peter was the coolest one of the bunch.
Had Pete taken something
First concert I saw in Nebraska in 1968
This is probably about nine months before Davey died😭
True. In fact, Micky meanwhile outlived them all.
😢
His name was spelled Davy. It was a year and eight days before Davy Jones died.
Anyone know why Davy is holding his shoulder much of the time? Peter seems annoyed at many of Micky's answers.
Mickey sounds like me......took him years to get to his laundry! 😂😂😂😂

Hey hey it’s the Monkeys!
Love them.
Always thought there was an atmosphere between them...
I still look at there show on RUclips..
Their voices didn’t even change a little bit! Pretty impressive for guys who smoked a LOT of pot when they were younger

Where is Mike?
I don't think I've ever seen the Monkees looking more bored in an interview. They probably answered those same tired questions hundreds of times.
That couch is too small.
Peter and Mickey obviously didn't see eye to eye..
Look at the body language-they clearly don’t like each other.
Totally, yeah.

@Glen. I disagree with you completely!!!! Davy Jones was in very bad health during this interview. Peter was also in bad health.

Maybe more lucrative, if that’s how you measure success…the fact that people almost 50 yrs later, know and still listen to their music…says it all
What Music? They just covered Neil Diamond songs very very badly.. They were a Circus Act
